The museum closed in May 2019 for a years long renovation. Part of the collection can now be seen in other museums in Rotterdam. See the Boijmans website for more information. Next to the museum a new depot is being build. Even though they are still busy building this depot, the building itself is already interesting enough to take a look! In the gigantic mirrored walls of the cup shaped building you can see the skyline of Rotterdam centre. The depot will be opened in 2021 and will be open to the public. See also my review of the depot.

Actually it is open now, but there is construction works near by. It is nice gallery with modern shop. You should buy a ticket in advance because it’s popular place. After 8:30 guard can let you on the rooftop for free. There are restaurant and nice view point. You can watch cool light show after sunset near by entrance.

Even if you don’t know anything about art, you will enjoy it there! There are free tour guides for different languages, I think it is better to go with the tour so you can understand more. It didn’t cost me to much.

Great experience! Absolutely stunning building, their expositions are well thought through. They have a good selection of old Dutch masters. Staff is very friendly and helpful and everything is in descriptive English for non Dutch speakers. Amtosphere is great, only walking through the building and their pavilion is worth the trip. They also occasionally have some pop up expo in their garden. Wheelchair accessible

An incredible piece of art! We only passed by on our last day in Rotterdam, yet it was one of the most exciting places we had seen during our trip. It is mind blowing to look at and you only understand it when you’re actually there. Pictures are not enough.

Don’t recommend to visit. It looks like a bad joke: there are famous paintings but you couldn’t see it due to it’s a storage. Only some of them in “highlights”. It’s hard to describe the disappointment. If it’s a museum, IKEA is a museum too.

I couldn’t get tickets to enter, but went to see it from outside and at night they have nice illuminations on the floor, and the architecture and door details was great to appreciate without entering the building though.

Museum with superb collection, however currently closed for renovations. The most important paintings are on display in the neighbouring Kunsthal - very worthwhile to visit.

My family and I had a delightful visit to Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, which proved to be an enriching and educational experience for all of us. The museum's architecture is a marvel in itself, with the mirrored façade reflecting the dynamic Rotterdam skyline, creating a futuristic and inviting presence in the city. Inside, the art collections were impressive, featuring a wide array of masterpieces from old master paintings to modern and contemporary art, as well as decorative arts and industrial design. Bear in mind that most of the exhibits are stored and cannot be seen! We particularly enjoyed the interactive exhibits that provided deep insights into the preservation and restoration of artworks. It was fascinating to learn about the different climate zones within the depot and how they cater to the varied needs of different types of art. The guided tour was a highlight, offering us a behind-the-scenes look at the museum's operations, which was both informative and engaging. The museum's approach to displaying art, including the use of Lina Bo Bardi’s ‘glass easels’ to show the front and back of paintings, was innovative and provided a unique perspective on the artworks. This transparency in showcasing the provenance and history of the pieces added depth to our understanding and appreciation of the art. Overall, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is not just a museum but a living, working building where art is actively cared for and studied. Our visit was not only enjoyable but also left us with a greater appreciation for the art and the stories behind each piece.

Impressive architecture with an interesting back story. The depot itself offered an insight into the work that goes behind the museum. The roof terrace allowed a beautiful view over the city.

Beautiful museum! The museum has many exceptional works of art and it has a structure of "time machine", something unique for a museum. It's really nice and in the area there i a big park that host festivals during the summer.

Really interesting building but you couldn't actually see much of the art. Almost all the paintings were stored as if they were in the storage room and you could take a glimpse of the amount from the glass in front of the rooms with the shelves. There is a qr code next to the glass which you can scan and see what is stored inside the room. But I don't understand what is the point of paying to enter, if you can not actually see most of the art and you see mostly storage rooms. If I wanted to see everything via the app I could have just done this online and not paying to visit the museum. I understand that they are in the process of renovating but could be smarter if they kept the previous building open until they are almost done with the new one, and then keep it close for a few months until all the art pieces are transferred. I had visited the previous museum and it was fantastic, I really liked it much more . They only amazing thing ,is indeed how they have built the inside of the new glass dome, but In my personal opinion only , would fit more to a museum regarding mostly technology and science. It creates a very cold environment with all this glass. And it doesn't feel the same when you see for example old paintings.

We were hurrying and didn’t have enough time (will return 😊) Very interesting to visit, but very crowded. Some masterpieces make you breathless And modern art is impressive & interesting! But most of all I was impressed by corridor of rooms with artworks - it’s really shake your brain)))) Nice & interesting place to visit!

Quite a good museum if you are looking for more modern pieces and products. They have quite a wide collection of chairs and products from 1920 to recently. The way it is all displayed could be better though, and the building needs renovation. Let's hope the building that's currently under construction will make a difference.

Very good collection. I like also the design collection. The collection is not something most famous, but it shows the development of certain design, e.g. table lamp. Even the design of the wardrobe is so thoughtful. It's also a piece of art.

Huge collection. It can be however overwhelming if you aren't really into arts. I liked the topic based sorting on the colour and form part better, but the style sorted rooms are great too. Independent what kind of art you are into, you will find something you love.

Boijmans is great. It's modern, different and makes you think. The building itself is worth a picture and it also offers a great view from the rooftop and the possibility for a coffee and something nice. Do make reservations beforehand online.

very disappointed with this museum .... first, as everywhere in the Netherlands, but even more here the parking is extremely expensive (4eur the hour!) ... and the contraventions that go with also if you go over 5 min (75Eur); then the place is quite sad and not very secure. The museum is very expensive for what to see: 20 eur entry per person! The museum has access to modern "art" ... you have to love ... for the art itself, we are quite disappointed because the Rembrendt, Brueghel, Van Gogh, etc ... are quite few. Of course these works are accessible in nice museums not so far! And some are even free at certain times of the year ...

Really disappointed. You can't go anywhere if you haven't booked a ticket. Even for access to the rooftop or taking a coffee. So take this advice. Book your tickets in advance or use your time for visiting anything else in the city

Pretty great area of Rotterdam ✅. Temporary closed (FYI), went there in July 2022. However, the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen which is located nearby is open to the public, and sincerely worth going there. Very impressive artistic area. Furthermore, Rotterdam's Museumpark is a great area to walk by, and you'll find many museums and activities there.

(Translated by Google) Boymans had been on my wish list for a long time so wanted to go there before it is closed due to renovation. Well, as far as I am concerned, they could have shut things down better. A few messy exhibitions and that's it, you even pay the normal entrance fee while at least half of the museum is already closed! Even the restaurant was already closed, there was now a small uninviting space where you can buy coffee. Small lockers that barely fit your jacket / bag, I had to use 2. Only nice thing is the coats hanging from the ceiling.

Not worth 17.5 euros unless you really like art or the specific exhibits. The right wing was closed so I only saw half the art. Some interesting pieces but not worth the price. Don't think it's worth the price even if the right wing was to be open as other big name museums cost similar like the Louvre or Vatican museum.
