This is the second time and I went because it was close to my work. The first time was a horrible time but this one has no name. In the emergency room the receptionist treated me with contempt, but the best thing was the condescending treatment of the nurses, one of them did not even know how to take a blood sample. They played a joke on me that was not in the least but in bad taste, but they were interested to know where I was coming from and because my Dutch is a beginner it was even more of a joke. After telling me that kind of barbarities I decided it was time to finish. I have given a second chance but there is not going to be a third. I don't think they welcome foreigners. And now I understand why it is always empty.

If I could give zero star I would. This is for the emergency service. I woke up this morning with pain in my right hip joint that gradually got worse to the point where I could not sit, bend over, or walk. Any and every movement from that hip joint and leg caused excruciating pain. My whole leg felt numb when attempting to walk. Around 10 pm the pain got so bad, I almost called the ambulance. I have been a nurse for 9 years in the hospital setting, I know something is very wrong. I took some pain medications and laid down for 4 hours to have the pain subside enough to go to the hospital. Thankfully this hospital is across the street for me, so I thought I would use the little strength I had to walk over and be taken care of. The lady at the desk looked at me, checked me in, then called me back up to tell me the doctor will not see me because it is not an emergency. And gave me a list of doctors offices that I could go to in the morning. I was not given the decency to be seen or assessed by a doctor, or even a nurse. My hip literally feels like I have dislocated it. This hospital/ and it’s staff should be ashamed of itself. I would not recommend anyone going here. You will not be taken seriously. I work at Erasmus MC, it is further away, but I will try my luck there in the morning. PS: I just moved to Netherlands a week and a half ago, and started work a week ago. My insurance has not yet been activated but I explained that I could easily pay out of pocket for the amount they were asking for. I would like not to think this could have been a reason I was turned away. But my interaction with the receptionist and the questions she placed emphasis on has left me wondering. They could have easily given me care, then bill my medical insurance which was being processed. It should not require a person to have an active insurance to be helped or treated with kindness and human decency. Emergencies can happens to everyone. No one is exempt. I just hope if someone they themselves care about has an emergency in a foreign country they are not treated with contempt, discriminated, and sent away.

The receptionists are the worst. If someone is not very fluent in Dutch, what gives service providers the right to behave inappropriately with them? Maybe one doesn’t know enough to have a conversation about medical matters, why is that a problem? The reception at the plastic surgery polyclinic made a disgusted face and informed us, IN ENGLISH, that she did not speak English!! And then proceeded to give further instructions in Dutch! Wow! That’s just amazing for a country that claims to be international. Not the first time that something like this has happened. May be internationals should consider hiring personal translators to accompany them to doctors.

My partner is a foreigner in this country and had to come for an emergency related to pregnancy. The doctors were nice but today we had a terrible experience with the receptionists as she tried to explain that she would prefer to register with a hospital closer to our house and once she has more information. The secretary was not very polite and eventually left the phone on after the call. We could hear her tell horrible things about my partner to her colleague such as "get rid of her" (Weg ermee) a couple of times before she hanged up. I'm glad my partner couldn't understand how nasty they were. That confirmed our bad feeling about this place (although once again, the doctors were nice).

I had a broken wrist. If you have insurance and gp you have an examination superfast. Without a gp it's not so easy, but this is the Dutch healthcare system's fault... The doctors were superkind and professional in the radiology. I can tell the same about the urgent care team. I had a lot of injuries in my life, but never ever met such a friendly and kind doctor like here was the plasterer doctor. Sadly I don't remember her name. First time here ( hope the last as well of course ) but I was amazed by the whole caring system. Thanks a lot.

I had a heart catheter at this hospital recently and had to stay for a few days recovering after surgery. The nurses and the doctors are very nice and professional. I was very happy with the treatment and the way I was looked after. Big thanks to you all.

After vsiting Maastaad hospital for a second opinion, about the opportunity of a surgery strongly recommended by a different doctor from a different hospital, I am still shocked about the behavior of neurologist doctor M Westerink. The doctor showed hostile behaviour for a reason that I still couldn't find, because I was polite from the begining to the end of the meeting, regardless her attitude. The doctor asked me multiple times: "Why are you here?" or repeated "I already gave you the answer!" In the end I received a very short consult, only because I told her that I will look for a different doctor for a second opinion if she doesn't want to do it. The consult conducted to the result that it is not necessary to have the surgery. The result proves that I was right to ask for the second opinion. After consultation the doctor invited me litteraly out by showing me the door in a impolite way that I don't consider suitable to a doctor. I am writing this review after more than a week and I still can't believe it really happened. Sending complaint email to the hospital didn't lead to any reply to this moment. Nobody makes visits for pleasure at the hospital, on the contrary. We all pay health insurance and own risk. So why should be the visit to the hospital unnecessarely unpleasant? I will avoid this hospital in the future and I hope I will never meet again doctor M Westerink.

Finally i am recovered from the surgery. I hereby update my review: it is mixed experience. The nurses are very nice and friendly. had abcess DEC 2018 so went to the First Aid on 12 Dec 2018 at night but the assistant (frontdesk lady) didnot help me at all! had to wait for long time in pain. with the operation of access after I had discharge for like 8 months which seemed to be fistula. 2 nd operation they told me they couldnt find the fistula while it was shown on the MRI in the first place but ok it needed to be cut open to exam. I am ok with that. All in all , there are things very nice about this hospital but certainly things can be improved: like there should be a short brief right after the surgery about that has been performed and how long the recovery can take.
