As a homeschooling mom of two having a membership to woodland park zoo is vital. We get to learn so much about animals, our environment and what we can do to make our world a better place for not only animals but us as well. We get to communicate with so many zoo keepers and get first hand information about all of the animals and what they’re up to. We have made countless memories at the zoo that mean so much to me as well as my children. I have captured so many of the highly sought after animal photos because we are members and visit often so I learn each animals routine and where their favorite spots/things to play with are in their enclosures. My family could spend all day in this area of Seattle. We enjoy starting off at woodland park zoo then eating lunch (I pack a picnic) in the woodland park zoo rose garden (which also has a music/sensory garden area for the kids) then we will hit up west woodland park playground and as a bonus sometimes on a hot summer day we will hit up Al A mode pies right there on the corner next to the park for some pie and ice cream (why not support a small local business when you can). When you’re a zoo member you get so many perks like discounted parking, free animal feeding encounters and free carousel rides as well as zoo store discounts and food discounts. We have brought so many of our friends in for free to the zoo with my family passport membership. I have been a member for 4 years going on 5 and there is no way I could go without a membership to Woodland Park Zoo. ***As of 5/2/22*** The carousel is back open! Also, My favorite butterfly garden at the zoo, Molbaks butterfly garden is scheduled to open MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! In all, I highly recommend Woodland park zoo to everyone young and old. It’s a great place for a quiet stroll on a weekday and a busy weekend day filled with friends and family.

My little ones love this zoo so much! There is a lot of animals to see and get to know. The zoo itself is well-maintained. We went there for trick or treats and they have tons of activities to keep the little ones busy and used up their energies πŸ˜…. The lineup was quiet long when we got there close to 10am and all parking lots were full so we had to park in a nearby residential area but it was worth the visit.

This is a decent zoo with nice walkways and landscaping. The inside buildings and carousel are closed at this time. The exhibits and enclosures are in good condition and roomy for the most part. We enjoyed the maned wolf and the baby gorilla. There were other babies scattered throughout the zoo. The Rainforest Food Pavilion made a really good cheeseburger. It appeared to be hand smashed and had excellent flavor. The fries were actually very large potato wedges and were seasoned well. We took our time and were able to see everything that was open in less than two hours. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Excellent venue to bring the kids (in our case, the grandkids). They loved the special light displays as well as the animals that were available - some were on "vacation". All in all, great walks, lots of great information posted throughout to give one a firm understanding of what we were seeing and how the animal fits into the larger ecological scheme

We booked the wild lanterns display and it was definitely an experience I won’t forget. A lot of the exhibits took my breath away and the camera couldn’t capture the beauty of it. Parking was crazy because it was rush hour but it was worth the drive to get there and the worth the wait to get parking. I felt like I was a kid being all excited there!

This is a very lovely medium sized zoo. They grounds are very well kept, variety of animals is great, very kid oriented, but adults should have a lot of fun too. The food is not anything truly special, but it is not bad. They have picnic areas for you to use and saw many families using them which is great to see. Lots of viewing areas, and you get really close compared to 98% of other zoos. That is truly what sets this park apart from others. You might not see every animal, but those you do, wow you see great and kids just light up instantly being nose to nose with an orangutan or a leopard looking right at you 10 ft away. Definitely a must visit for tourists and I also see why so many locals are members.

The zoo is laid out well with a lot of shade. It's easy to navigate with strollers and scooters but the viewing areas are very small. Some of them had bushes overgrown so it was hard to see anything. All of the birds are not out because of bird flu, bears were closed down as well. Overall we did not see very many animals or they were far away. If you want to see an animal up close you have to pay around $10 to feed them. The glass in the otter exhibit was hard to see through. They used to have a lot of snack places but we only found one coffee stand and a few snack stands. Overall the zoo needs a serious makeover to accommodate all the people. $27 a ticket is rather expensive for the number of animals we saw.

Our visit to Woodland Park Zoo was nothing short of magical! This was my first time visiting a zoo as an adult, and my children's (ages 16 and 2) first time ever. We visited on memorial day weekend, so it was a little busy but it was still a wonderful time. The park is set up beautifully, is very large (allow yourself enough time to see everything! We were there about 4 hours and didn't cover all of it). The plants/trees were gorgeous, paths were clean, and everything seemed very well cared for. The variety of animals was astonishing. Seeing my children's eyes light up at the sight of each animal made my mama heart soar. This zoo allows you to bring in food and drinks, so I highly suggest bringing snacks or lunch and beverages (they also have water fountains to refill your bottles). There are also places to buy food and drinks once inside, but the prices are a bit high. Our visit to Woodland Park Zoo will be one of our most treasured family memories. I can't wait to visit again!

Very big fun zoo with a lot of animals to look at. Unfortunately when we went there were several that were hiding out sleeping and the bird feeding cage was closed. The penguins were cute and the giraffes were a hit with the family. This zoo is a nice contrast to the zoo at Point Defiance.

Huge place. Many different animals and birds and creatures to gaze at. Very educational and informative. Great place to walk and explore. Great shops. souvenirs priced a bit high but worth checking out. Lots of various things to interact with. You can also rent scooters if you have hard time walking. Wished I would of rented one for me, but gave me a good workout. There's so much to learn and see.. Would go back and recommend.

Such an enjoyable and pleasant zoo! Coming here is a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busy Seattle life. The zoo staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable, watching them care for the animals and the ground is a true treat! Some of the more exciting attractions are the giraffes, they are so playful and active, the Lions who, if you're lucky you'll get to hear just roar and roar and then the elusive snow leopards! All these majestic creatures, the helpful and courteous staff and the wonderful grounds make this a must visit for anyone visiting or living in the Seattle area. Don't forget while here to support the zoo with a few souvenirs, some yummy treats and drinks and of course a membership or donations, it's a great opportunity to be involved and show your appreciation for all the Zoo does!

We went to see Zoo Lanterns. What a beautiful array of animal lanterns. From birds to dinosaurs. They also had a fire pit, hot chocolate, pizza, burgers, beer, wine. It was a great experience. It seemed like it ended too fast. It looped around the whole main loop. It made you wonder where were the animals! If you get a chance to see these lanterns around Christmas time, go see them. The ticket price is over $30 a piece but worth it. It goes to a good cause!

This zoo was amazing! It was the perfect day to go weather wise.. we were there for about 4-5 hours...the different animal zones were done extremely well... staff were very knowledgeable! 2 main dining options are on-site... lots of places to take breaks, especially for younger kids...Rosie at the customer service desk by the penguins was so helpful calling us a taxi...definitely a must see and do when in Seattle!

Went to to zoo with the family. All the staff is super friendly and willing to help you. The zoo was clean and inviting. Lots of fun areas for the kids to run around and play in between visiting the animals. Lots of interactive and educational components at each exhibit. We didn’t get to see most of the birds because they had the areas closed.

What an amazing visit! The weather was perfect and all of the animals were out on display. The majority of the bird exhibits were closed due to bird flu concerns but it detract from the overall visit. I love how accessible the zoo is, easy access for all ages and abilities. There was some great animal experiences that the zookeepers did, learned a lot about rhinos. I will for sure come back again, and not wait so long between visits.

We absolutely LOVE this zoo! I remember going to this zoo when I was a little kid, and now I have been taking my kiddos since they were babies! This is a Great place for absolutely anybody and everybody of all ages. There is So much to see and so much joy and happiness in one place! It really is such a beautiful zoo. There are so many lovely animals, a beautiful flower garden, a fun carousel ride, many food and drink options, places to sit, have a picnic, play structures for the kids to play on and so much more! They have they greatest butterfly exhibit, it is my absolute favorite! All the staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable. One of the things I love about This zoo is that it is such a huge place it doesn’t ever seem crowded. You could spend all day here. The food is pretty expensive, so I suggest packing a lunch, drinks and some snacks and have a picnic to save some money! There are so many great photo and learning opportunities here. You can learn so much together and have tons of fun! A great family friendly adventure and environment.

There is not enough positive things to say about the zoo. It is an extremely amazing place to either go with friends family loved ones or even by yourself. If you have an annual zoo pass you can go even just for a short time see the animals you like and come back another day and not feel like you missed anything. The zoo is very well managed and kept. The animals although in a zoo seem content and taking care of. There is such a diverse array of animals to choose from. The butterfly exhibit is amazing this time of year. There are parking lots on three different sides of the zoo where you can pay to park. And there is also a free gravel parking lot to the southeast side with just a short walk over Aurora to the zoo and the South entrance. If you live in the area I highly recommend the annual pass so you can go frequently and avoid the more busy areas especially if they have kids filled trips and see those particular areas another time without having to pay each time and feel like you lost out. The zoo and the paths are very family and kid friendly. Strollers are welcome in most areas but not all. Bathrooms are perfectly spaced so you do not need to run to find one a good idea would be to get a map at the entrance just in case.

Went here for the first time for the lanterns and what a wonderful experience! Only giving 4 stars because we did not get the whole zoo experience. We did buy from the gift store and the staff were very nice, decent selection.

This zoo is absolutely wonderful and has some of the best executed reopening plans that I’ve seen since the pandemic started. My partner and I visited twice before the pandemic started and a third time since they’ve reopened. They had a very clear cut path for everyone to follow through the zoo and the staff were diligent but polite about making sure distance was maintained between parties but that everyone also got to see what they came for. Some of the more interactive exhibits were closed, but that’s understandable and I’m sure they’ll be open again one day!

Wow! We had such an amazing time here! This is a conversation zoo zoo and it is absolutely stunning! Walking around the zoo is almost like walking through the woods it’s so beautiful. Definitely a great price for all the animals you get to see. Tip: you might want to eat before and bring snacks because there was not many food options outside of burgers and pretzels.

Lots of fun. I think we enjoyed visiting this zoo more than others. We went during the week on a day where they were doing Zoo Tunes (though we didn't stay for the show unfortunately). It wasn't nearly as busy as I'd expected for a summer afternoon. We didn't see all of the animals but the ones we did get to view seemed to have pretty nice enclosures, larger than ones at other zoos.

The Zoo was clean and had a nice atmosphere. The animals we saw were impressive and appeared well taken care of. The gorillas were incredible! We watched them for at least 20 minutes. They were so interesting and entertaining. I understand it's not really within the control of the zoo and zookeepers how active or visible the animals are. It just seemed some exhibits made it difficult to see some of the animals (e.g. the tigers). Some views from higher elevations would be neat. There didn't seem to be many of those. But overall, it was a good visit. They provided a sensory kit for my autistic son which is really cool. There were open areas to eat food you are allowed to bring in which is great. Well maintained and pleasant.

Perhaps because I went to the open time, there were not many animals, but it was good to see animals with nature. I recommend comfortable clothes because you have to walk a lot. If you have a stroller, I recommend you to take it.

Great place to spend the day. So much to see and to learn. We enjoyed our visit so much. The signage needs improvement though. We were lost while exploring and had to use google maps to find our way to exit. Please invest into creating more signage throughout and perhaps drawing errors on each path to take and use colors for the errors to differentiate the paths. Otherwise we lost valuable time just trying to find our way around and I never got to see the butterflies πŸ¦‹ as we ran out of time. Bring binoculars for kids. They enjoy using them to see animals much closer. Also if you have EBT card the ticket is $5 and yearly pass for two adults and three kids is only $35. What a deal πŸ‘ Staff is very friendly and it’s so appropriated.

This zoo is well maintained and has a reasonable amount of exhibits. The entirety of the park can be explored in around 3 hours and is worth going to at least once. It pales in comparison to the bigger zoos I've been too including those in the San Diego area, but is about as good as you'll get in Seattle.

It's even better now! They really had a good system worked out, so much so that my 76 year old mother and her older sister felt safe to come out and do this with us. Besides feeling safe, we had the added bonus of so few people in the Zoo that we got to see everything more up close and without crowds. It was ideal, wish they could keep it like that always!

The Wild Lanterns exhibit currently on during the evening is a wonderful activity to take the family too, and escape the tedium of continued lockdowns and restrictions. All of the lanterns are fantastic pieces of art in their own right, and fill the zoo with a delightful sense of whimsy.

The Woodland Park Zoo is tons of fun for everyone so make sure to bring family and friends and anyone else who wants to come should. There are some amazing animals there, exotic plants and animals, don't forget to take lots of pictures and post them for us too see. I can't wait until this place is open again really soon, I like the smell of a Zoo for some reason, is that weird? Well, Merry Christmas Everyone and a Happy New Year. Be safe.

Every chance I've gotten to go to the Woodland Park Zoo has been an enjoyable adventure. All the animals seem to have adequate space and habitats. Given this you'll likely only get to see about 2/3 of the animals, as they can be hiding or out of the viewing habitat for some reason or another, but with the size of the zoo there is plenty more to see. The last time I went in November 2020, they were handling the covid restrictions well. The occupancy of the zoo was limited and staff were monitoring how many people were in any of the more closed off areas. Unfortunately most of the indoors areas were not open to viewing, but there were many more opportunities to spent time looking at the animals with a much smaller crowd around.

Finding something to do while social distancing is difficult. The Woodland Park Zoo seems to be doing everything right to make a trip to the zoo as safe as possible. They are opened at 25% capacity, they have one way walking paths, all indoor exhibits and events are closed, and masks are required. They have outdoor eating spaces that are tented. My son and I had a great time walking around and looking at the animals and the lanterns. The employees were all very nice and helpful! Everything was very reasonably priced. I look forward to going back again soon!

The best Zoo and SO MUCH to see. Get ready to walk (seriously because this place is big). So many wonderful animals and exhibits but also helpful staff and restrooms along the way. There are animals from penguins, giraffes, hippos, grizzly bears, red pandas…too many to share. There’s also many grassy areas to rest or have a picnic as well as beautiful carousel for rides. There are in and out privileges if you get a stamp so feel free to pack a lunch or snacks for the day or leave to the car if you need. They also have an on-site restaurant to order a variety of food options. Also which animals you see may depend on the time of day or temperature or eating times so it always varies. Right now masks are necessary for inside areas.

Hadn't been to the zoo for several years. This is a nice zoo that wasn't too crowded. Easily doable in an afternoon, our biggest challenge was finding our way around. The signage isn't very good and they don't provide maps anymore... Visitors can just download online. Lots of shade and places to rest as needed. Tips... Buy tickets online in advance and try parking in one of the lots on the west or north sides of the park.

Hands down cleanest zoo I’ve ever been to. Affordable price and the place is huge. I went on a Thursday and there was not a lot of people there. Beautiful park area to play, so many animals to see. We spent over 3 hours. You could easily spend the whole day. Take your family it is worth every penny.

I’m sure they are compiling to state mandates, however the visit is still full price and I would venture to say about 10% of the experience is available. Not worth the visit until reopened after pandemic restrictions. Sad because we visit every year and we will continue to do so.

Woodland Park Zoo is a wildlife conservation organization and zoological garden located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, United States. It is the recipient of over 65 awards across multiple categories, and has served approximately 1.4 million domestic & international visitors in 2019. History Occupying the western half of Woodland Park, the zoo began as a small menagerie on the estate of Guy C. Phinney, a Canadian-born lumber mill owner and real estate developer. Six years after Phinney's death, on December 28, 1899, Phinney's wife sold the 188-acre (76 ha) Woodland Park to the city for $5,000 in cash and the assumption of a $95,000 mortgage. The sum was so large that then-mayor W. D. Wood vetoed the acquisition, only to be later overruled by the city council. In 1902, the Olmsted Brothers firm of Boston was hired to design the city's parks, including Woodland Park, and the next year the collection of the private Leschi Park menagerie was moved to Phinney Ridge. As of the summer of 2010, the zoo features 92 acres (37 ha) of exhibits and public spaces. Open to the public daily, it received 1.05 million visitors in 2006. Its collection includes: 1,090 animal specimens 300 animal species 35 endangered and 5 threatened animal species 7,000 trees 50,000+ shrubs and herbs 1,000+ plant species A sensory garden Exhibits Woodland Park Zoo is a recipient of several Best National Exhibit awards from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and ranks second after the Bronx Zoo in New York City for the number received. Woodland Park Zoo created what is generally considered the world's first immersion exhibit, a gorilla habitat, which opened in the late 1970s under the direction of zoo architect David Hancocks. Not a bad covid experience. Plenty to still do and see with minimal crowds. Food gets expensive so bring your own (especially water, which is only sold in small $4.50 cans). All the indoor areas are closed so go into it expecting only the base animal experience. Took my friend there and we still had a 4 hour enjoyable day.

Amazing zoo! Have gone since I was a kid and it’s great. For Covid they have a one way walkway and make people 5+ wear masks, I felt quite safe. They have food you can buy, and the membership price isn’t bad. They also have a zoo store! The animals themselves are so great to look at, always new babies!

Lovely zoo. Social distancing measures are being taken and I felt pretty safe in the zoo, just remember the West entrance is the only entrance you can use during the pandemic. Surprisingly the African animals were out and about even though the day was cold, so I had a better-than-expected experience.

My family loves Woodland Park Zoo! We became members when my son was born and we've enjoyed visiting as often as we can. It's fun to bring guests and to attend their special events, such as Wild Lanterns this year. They've incorporated many new procedures to help keep visitors safe during the pandemic, and we certainly are glad they've been able to remain open for the most part. We renewed our membership for the second year and we feel so lucky to have this wonderful zoo so close by!!

The Zoo did an amazing job. It was a great drive thru event and a demonstration of creativity in a time when gathering is limited. There are obviously very creative and inventive people at the zoo. My only issue was headlights were on and taillights which dimmed the ability to really enjoy the event. We waited in line 57 minutes and then drove thru in 20 minutes. All in all the zoo did a fabulous job.

We were given a pass for Nature Illuminated. The exhibit itself was cool, however the 90 min wait to even start the tour was not appreciated. The audio went faster then the driving pace, and there needed to be more than 2 port-a-potties. Signage that would have also been appreciated. Hope it was a successful fundraiser for the zoo!

We went with family who had annual passes to the Minnesota Zoo, and enjoyed a nighttime , drive thru, light show. You purchase tickets online, and they send you a SoundCloud link, which narrates the animals along the way. When you arrive, you're directed to a pair of employees who scan your ticket on your phone. Then, you follow the single car line, very slowly, through the route. It was probably about 20 minutes in total, driving/idling slowly through the show. You see huge balloon, lighted, blow ups, with other colorful lights along the road/treeline. Some animals include moose, wolves, eagle, loom, bumblebees, owl, and much more! Impressed with the size and detail on the balloons. I do wish there were more Christmas lights for the decorations. Although impressive, there could've been more lights in addition to the balloons.

Got an early reservation time which was great because there was parking. You have to have an app to pay for parking. They did a great job having people 6 feet apart. A lot of families did not respect the social distancing and at the exhibits would let their children run in front of other families or not have their masks on. It seems a few parents didn't care and let their kids treat the zoo as a playground. Downside to going early means some of the animals are still asleep. For what we paid, it was worth it.

Was so much fun. Wasn’t crowded around 10 but once noon hit the zoo was packed. Food is expensive so I would bring snack next time. Very clean and the employees were so nice and very informative.

Great place for family fun! Huge park to get plenty of exercise, good walking shoes recommended. Great versatility of animals in this park. Going early in the day is recommended for best activity of the animals. Prices for admission are fair, but in two visits you could already buy a pass for the whole year.

Very well done zoo. The animals have lots of room, and their enclosers look natural. We missed the dinosaur exhibit, they were taking it apart when we were there. Some animals were not visible at first, but when we went back by a few minutes later they were suddenly out and active and highly visible. So, if you miss the ones you want to see, try to pop back by and you may catch them. I bought season passes for my family that lives there, and then was able to get myself in for half price when we went together. Doing the math, if they go twice, the passes have paid for themselves, and all the other visits will be for free. Definately worth it if you are local. The zoo workers and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. The park was clean and well maintained with lots of shade and seating. Most everyone wore their masks as required.

Very fun place for the family to walk around and visit. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here, but even 4 if you eat a lunch. Time flew by for us - it's a pretty large zoo and takes a long time to walk around and see it all. Parking is self service kiosk and cost us $13 for 3-4 hours. We parked in the south "hippo" lot. The wildlife (bear, gorillas, rhino, wolves, and more) were very active when we went on a Saturday morning.

Beautiful exhibits, very well created and maintained. City Pass takes a few bucks off the entrance price, making it the best out-of-pocket option if you choose to do all the listed City Pass activities. Mornings on overcast days are great - not crowded & animals are out and about.

Absolutely incredible zoo. If you have never been, this is a must visit! The most amazing zoo I have ever been to ever. Photos are from 2021 Zoo Lantern Lights and that show in itself is incredible. Almost all the animals are away sleeping but the magical lights they set up and illuminate are truly amazing. Words cannot do it justice. Fun for all ages, with or without kids. Definitely worth checking out.

Oh my god, the woodland park zoo was so beautiful. We went in December and the weather was gorgeous and the landscaping was amazing. So many animals that I haven’t seen before and they were way more active than any other zoo I’ve been to. I could’ve easily spent all day there just admiring everything.

I love the zoo here and always have :) I was so excited to find that WPZ had a flying fox enclosure recently! I don't really know what to say, except that I've only had good experiences here, and the animals are treated well. A porcupine decided she would take her time getting out of her crate at a show, and the keeper noted that they do t force animals to do anything, just train some ambassadors with positive reinforcement. Even with pouring rain, the Wild Lanterns event was super cool.

Lot's of parking, we recommend going in the morning to beat the crowds and so you can enjoy looking at all of the animals. We walked around the whole zoo and it took us about 2 hours to complete. There were a lot of enclosures and animals. Our favorites were the monkeys, tiger, elks and the hippos! Great place to bring the family. We paid around $30 for 2 people including tax, great price for a day trip. There were a lot of areas where you could sit and enjoy the animals and have a picnic.

This was the first trip to Seattle for my wife and I. We had purchased the City Pass and it was totally worth it. We had talked about doing a few different activities when in Seattle and I feel that having the city pass made it so much easier to accomplish. The Woodland Park Zoo is as amazing, the park was very well kept, the animal exhibits were beautiful. I think our favorite exhibit was the gorilla habitat. There’s something about being at a Zoo that makes me feel like a kid again!!!

Our first time going and it was quite the experience. We arrived early in the morning and I’ll say that in the beginning it was looking to be a disappointing trip. I say that because the majority of the animals were no where to be found. So personally next time I’ll be coming a bit later when the animals are in their spots because while we were heading out we caught a glimpse of them. It’s perfect decent, if it’s your first time. Pack lunches!! Especially if you have little ones, they have a resting area to eat which was nice. It’s a bit pricey but worth the money and walking. :)

I usually love the zoo. I think the animals are well cared for and comfortable. But, I did not expect to pay almost $30 just for myself and almost $20 for my kid to spend a day walking around to NOT see any penguins or Flamingos due to the bird flu. There were exhibits uninhabited and ones you had to "sign up" for at least a day ahead. What? I love the animals. But, the enclosure for the rhinos and hippos look way too small. At least the African safari is an open piece of land that the zebras and giraffes can wander freely. Still, the employees are nice and helpful.

Such an amazing experience in Seattle! The zoo is so beautiful and meticulously kept. Each section has its own vibe and the animals are all stunning. I’d highly recommend coming early during the day and experiencing the whole zoo at your own pace walking from section to section. All the workers/volunteers I met during my visit were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be visiting again!

Fun day at the zoo, definitely got my steps in! We went on a weekday and it was a pretty quiet day. It’s also off peak season now and the zoo closes earlier I believe. Days are shorter and it’s colder so the animals tend to sleep earlier and try to get warm. We still had fun and got to see pretty much everything, minus the lion. The bear section was the highlight, first a huge brown bear appeared made it’s way near us and jumped in the water and played for a bit and later on two different younger bears were out and were playing together while eating lettuce. Definitely recommending to check out the zoo and you’ll get over 10K steps if you try to cover everything!

West gate is closest to major attractions. They have giraffe experience from 10 am to noon and a couple other cool shows between 11am to noon so plan accordingly. Very family friendly and a fun activity for all ages on a nice sunny Seattle day. Consider the annual membership if you have small kids. We took 1 adult yearly pass and got the second adult ticket for 50% off. Entry is free for kids 3 and under. Enjoy your visit!

Woodland Park Zoo is an absolute delight that never disappoints, no matter how many times I've visited! With its vast array of captivating animals, from graceful giraffes to majestic tigers, playful monkeys to intelligent orangutans, and charming penguins, each visit is an exciting adventure. The zoo's layout offers numerous spots to explore, making it impossible to cover everything in a single visit, but that only adds to the allure, as it keeps drawing me back for more. The kids are always thrilled by the abundance of wildlife to observe and learn about. Even though we may occasionally miss seeing some animals due to their clever hiding spots, we've been fortunate to encounter nearly all of them in different visits. Additionally, the zoo offers a delightful cafe where we can sit, relax, and savor delicious meals amidst a pleasant atmosphere. Woodland Park Zoo truly provides a fantastic family outing, blending education, entertainment, and natural beauty seamlessly. If you're seeking a memorable and enjoyable experience, this zoo is undoubtedly a must-visit destination.

Great zoo with many animals to observe. They had lots of info regarding conservation efforts about all animals they shelter. The paths were quite narrow at some points, and some viewing spots seemed over crowded. Lots of the animals were not in their enclosures for whatever reason. But the ones we did see were super cute and lively! I do recommend.

I brought the kids here in October (10, 9 and 7 years old). We had a great time! We arrived at 11 and left when the park shut at 4pm. We had just enough time to see everything! There were people from the park in every section who answered the kids questions about the animals which was great! Good variety of animals although 2 of the sections were closed so we missed the Tigers and snow Tigers which my daughter had been looking forward to seeing.

What an absolute treasure! The Woodland Park Zoo has consistently impressed me with their attention to conservation and the experiences they provide. The Wild Lanterns exhibit is not to be missed! My kids can't get enough of the Zoomasium indoor playhouse and it's a really great place to go when the weather isn't cooperating. Proud to be long time members of such a great organization.

Highly recommend the Wild Lanterns as one of your Christmas holiday traditions! They are a delightful fusion of oriental lanterns and the traditional zoo lights. Using illuminated lanterns, they portray animals from around the world (and the zoo) in beautiful and sometimes whimsical displays. For families with children, there are several interactive exhibits, including the rain cloud display, an activity center, and, of course, the antique carousel. They do have a (no touch) animal experience also, which rotates through different animals. While we were there, it was a snake and a tarantula. The staff were engaging and informative, keeping it interesting for kids and adults alike. Kids will love the displays, but having areas to let the young ones interact more and burn some energy always helps to keep everyone happy. If you like to take your time and enjoy ambience, grab a cup of coffee, snack, or a beer at one of the snack stands and enjoy a leisurely meander through this magical land. Visibility: Paths are pretty well lit, but this is intended to be a dark experience. If you struggle to see in the dark, you may want to bring a subtle flashlight that you can click on to help you feel secure in darker areas. All the areas - but the kids areas - are on paved paths, so there should be no trip hazards to speak of. I saw several people with various subtle lights (Christmas light necklaces, light up toys, glow sticks, and little "hello I'm here, please don't run into me" lights). The experience is about enjoying the illuminated lanterns, but it is also quite dark and sometimes people don't look where they are going or just don't see well in the dark. I found myself regretting not bringing some form of low-level ambient lighting. There were a few dark areas with people not seeing those around them, for me, it was partly for that, but moreso about the draw to be more immersed into the festive spirit of the event. (Choose based on your style, but the Christmas light necklaces looked the most festive to me!!) Parking: There is parking on site (which is ~$8 after fees & taxes). There are displays near both entrances, so either the south or west lot works. The west lot has some Instagram photo stop displays, but if you park at the south lot, just ask for a hand stamp when you walk by the west entrance and they will let you go see those, take pictures, and find back in to finish the experience. Tickets: Recommend booking in advance as availability call sell out. Tickets seem pricey at $37 for adults, but it was well worth the money and I intend to add this as a semi-annual Christmas tradition. Time: If you love to take your time, wander slowly, stop to enjoy displays, take pictures, and generally immerse yourself in the experience, I recommend giving yourself 2-2.5 hours. If you are good with a nice walk-through experience, you can see everything in an hour.

Brought my grandson and kids here for Labor Day weekend. It was so nice outside but only saw a few animals. It was also tough because the Covid rules were stringent but what we did see were some good ones! I’m sure if it wasn’t Covid season it would have been a better more free way to visit. I appreciate them trying so much though! We will have to come back after Covid season or election πŸ˜‰

Love the zoo! It's a great family outing and I'm appreciative of the safety precautions that they're taking: timed entry, one way traffic, limiting number of visitors at certain exhibits. Sure, you might not get to see everything every time since you have to keep moving but that's the beauty of nature. Plus, nothing stops you from following the one way path again!

  • 5/5 Michelle M. 3 years ago on Google
I have loved WPZ since I was a child. They have set up new social distancing and a one-way path through the zoo, which is like 95% perfect. My only small complaint is that the signs weren't clear that you would miss some animals if you followed a specific route, so I didn't get to see my fave animals (the tigers). But we're members, so I'm excited to go back when the close-up experiences are open again.

I came to the zoo while visiting my sister and brother-in-law. We had a fantastic visit. Because of the virus they had lots of precautions to help keep everyone safe. Mask wearing is a must and hand sanitizer was everywhere. Also they had a marked route for everyone to follow. Indoor sections are still closed but we saw every other exhibit that was available. The animals are well taken care of and staff was super friendly! 🀩

A very beautiful place to go with your family, you have to go with a lot of energy because the place is big, it is definitely beautiful to be able to appreciate the beauty of our planet in one place I recommend it, but in these times of quarantine I do not think it is There are several closed areas and it is the same price, we have to hope that this improves a little

Was pretty sweet, not crowded when going at 9:30am time slot. Buy tickets early as they go fast. Park in otter lot on westside of zoo. Masks strictly enforced and they won't hesitate to tell people and have security. A lot of people however will not care about social distancing which is disappointing. Feel free to tell them to back off, especially when you and almost everyone else has young ones to protect! Love the zoo and their staff, very friendly as long as you mind the rules and one way traffic! Have fun!!!! We all need it!!!!

half of the things are closed, for half of other half they have put barricade and you need to see from quite distance. And with the probability that many animals just sleep most of the time, your chances of seeing walking animals or proper full view of animals are limited. it doesn't justify the time and money.

Good social distanct measures set up, but there are a few two way paths that would be MUCH improved by a simple rope or even a line on the ground to make a left and right lane. Signs said "Keep to the right please!" But few listened. I saw many employees stationed around who were ready to direct people and answer questions, masks handed out at the front gate. I would REALLY like one way entrances and exits. We had to stand aside pressed up against a wall for about 5 minutes because there was a traffic jam of people entering and exiting brushing shoulders with no distancing. All in all they're doing what they can and I felt safe here.

Visited this during covid-19 times, during Christmas week. It had timed slot entries - to avoid crowd. Relatively small zoo, but good place to spend 3-4 hours with kids. When we visited, because of cold weather for some of the tropical animals - they were not out in open.

I have always been impressed by this zoo. It is ALWAYS very clean, inside the enclosures and out. The animals always seem to have as much space as possible, and lots of areas for personal enrichment such as toys, hides, and hidden treats. The zoo loop is fun, and a great walk with things to see along the way. I highly recommend Woodland Park Zoo. This year was the first year they did Zoolanterns: Wildlights, the holiday light show. It was so immaculately planned out, and sold out....I wish I could have gone more than once! Zoostaff was making sure everyone was safe, and they also had warming stations scattered through the zoo...cute little bonfires to stay warm. The zoo sold snacks and cute winter themed sweaters as well. As far as the lights...everything was better than I could have ever imagined! Literally, they were lantern style animatronics! The fact that they moved really made everything cooler. I hope they bring this back because it would be a shame to only see them once. They look like they took so much effort and it was a feast for the eyes.

This is the best thing I've done with my kids since the pandemic. Granted, it could've been the weather (it had rained like a monsoon earlier in the day, as I figured it would continue to do, but luckily it stopped just in time), but there were very few people there. At one point I saw no others for 45 minutes or more. It was one way the whole time and knowing where to go was pretty easy thanks to lots of clear signs. I saw all patrons and zoo employees complying with rules and giving each other space, and importantly, employees looked like they were having fun. Hand sani everywhere. Animals were numerous considering the rainy conditions. They put the heat lamps by the windows on several exhibits which entices the animals to get close enough to give a good showing (esp. the tapirs, who were squished up against the glass). One siamang actually swung/crawled upto the window to greet my toddler which we all thought was really special since it was his first visit. Animals are obviously well cared for, judging especially by appearance. Will go as often as I can as long until others discover this gem!πŸ€žπŸ˜‰

I personally am not the biggest fan of zoos but this is very well kept and the animals from what you can see with how they act and are handled look well cared for. My children love seeing the animals and the special events they have are wonderful, been to two concerts and zoo lights and they do a great show with incredibly helpful staff. We collect magnets for our fridge and so on from our little trips and the zoo has a great collection in the gift shop also.

A really solid zoo, for the most part the animals look healthy and happy. There sadly aren't enough zoo personnel so when we were relaxing and having a bite, a pleasant peacock walked up, but some little jerk kid started chasing it, the kids Dad just sat and laughed. They had good social distancing practices and it's a beautiful zoo, plan for a solid 2 to 2.5 hours.

The Zoo that once was. The park itself is nice but there isn't really much to see right now. A large portion of the park is unavailable and several animals have been moved out. There is a long wait for the gift shop and other amenities. I recommend waiting until more restrictions are lifted and calling ahead to ask what is available. Download the 'paybyphone' app in advance to pay for your parking.

Went to the woodland park zoo for the 'Wildlanterns'. We enjoyed our 2 hours of stay. Event was well organized and the staff was super helpful. Ample parking for $4 +tax (for 2 hours). Event was sold out but there still was a lot of space for social distancing. Nice and easy one way walk to see the attractions. My kids enjoyed being out after a while. I did get a bit cold though for which they had fire places at multiple points throughout. All in all, we loved the experience. Highly recommend!

Though their exhibits were closed, they were sleeping right by their windows. The kids had so much fun. It is so well maintained. The animals are kept in natural surroundings very similar to place of their origin. All animals look so healthy. The display of information about the birds and animals is very knowledgeable and interesting to children as well as adults. There is so much to learn from the visit to zoo. It was fascinating experience to see some old retired zoo staff actually communicating so well with animals especially orangutan and vice versa. That shows their love and dedication to the job they did. Lucky to get a book " The Hidden life of Trees" by Peter Wohlleben from the gift store there. If you buy a momento in gift store, it is a contribution to the nature. Though covid time and lot of visitors especially children, descipline was maintained. Must visit Zoo in Seattle. It takes minimum 4 hours to complete the visit.

  • 4/5 Cameron H. 3 years ago on Google

I’ve been coming to this zoo since I was little, and now I can bring my son. The zoo layout is fantastic and definitely big enough to get your daily steps in. The exhibits are fantastic and the variety of animals is definitely worth the trip. We bought annual passes which I’m super thankful for since during some of our visits there were very few animals out which made for a very empty visit (gorillas, rhinos, elephants, zebras were nowhere to be seen, including the indoor exhibits. Orangutans were in the outer exhibit hiding under blankets but none were in the indoor exhibits either). I totally get with the weather and other factors that it varies who will be out and about but it would be nice if they had some kind of red light green light system on their website so before families pack up everything and go they can see if it’s worth going that day. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to many more zoo visits ☺️

I liked what was there but expected to see a lot more lights other than the big balloon animals (although they were cool) Loved the trees that looked like they were moving, The reason I gave a lower score was be cause I spent a lot of money to enjoy these lights and had a set time to be there the lineup was so huge and it took a long time to finally get to the show. Also because of the long line the phone guide was way ahead of us so at first I did not know what they were talking about until I got to the animal. Since it was so busy I feel we really couldn't take our time or stop for a bit to take a picture as I felt like there was so many people behind me that I didn't want to make them wait any longer. And there were no places to pull over to let them by. All that said it was a display even for a couple of old people for some new years fun πŸ˜€

I get it. Covid is here. People need to wear masks all for safety. Wish that the zoo would work on getting more cheery workers. Grumpy and snappy workers kind of sucks the fun out of the experience. =(

Post COVID-19 has changed the way many places are being operated. This zoo was great back in 2018 but because of the current restrictions, alot of the indoor exhibits are closed and it is pretty much a one way route for the most part. I would advise continuing to support them if you can but be aware that things are very different right now and if you wanted to see all the animals, my suggestion would be to wait until more restrictions are lifted and they are able to reopen most of their attractions.

  • 5/5 Kianna H. 3 years ago on Google
Super fun and pandemic-ready. I think the pricing is reasonable and I love being at the zoo when it's empty and I can see all the animals up close and personal. I'm just sad that the budgie birds exhibit is not open. Also, SUPER grateful that I can just bring in any water and snacks I want. Free parking nearby too. Very happy with this place!

We've been going to the zoo more often during the pandemic and are so grateful they are open and helping visitors practice social distancing. When an animal is especially active, people still crowd together to get a good view so we just step aside. But their one way pathways and signage is much appreciated.

Amazing zoo! 4 Stars because most animals was sleeping around noon, almost like they were given a dose to sleep or something, and North of the Zoo was closed. But definitely worth going back whenever I come back to Seattle!

  • 3/5 Nicholas S. 3 years ago on Google
Don't go as long as they still have covid rules. You are not allowed to eat or drink in the park. Everything is "one way" like an IKEA and ends up making lines for everything. Half of the things are closed but they still charge you full price for a ticket.

Great zoo to visit! We went as part of the Wildbites event to taste great whiskies and easy gear food while supporting the zoo! Well maintained and easy to navigate. Although I prefer to see animals in the wild, this is a good zoo with well cared for animals and the people working there that we connected with were passionate about the animals. Recommended!

The paper lanterns are amazing! We typically enjoy the zoo lights but this year's display was a step above! Very stunning and I highly recommend with gloves, warm socks and a hot tasty beverage. If you do get a warm beverage from concessions they have hot chocolate, hot apple cider and Irish cream hot chocolate for the adults.

We visited zoo on Christmas eve,it’s cold and very few people. Actually the zoom is bigger than my expectation and definitely need half day to visit all. Also I saw few animals which I never saw before, meerkat, tapir.

Got my adult son to go check out the Lanterns on a very chilly Sunday night for the Holidays.Very impressed with the display, but we kept wondering how they store all those steel wire frames. And the labor to apply the materials and paint to each lantern you understand why it's not a cheap ticket. Happy to pay and have such a great science and cultural amenity in Seattle. Thank you!!

I attended the WildLanterns event last night at the Woodland Park Zoo. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It's beautiful and magical. Well worth the cost. Would definitely do again. There's something to see everywhere you look. My cell phone camera couldn't catch the full saturation of colors.

Best zoo in the world! You won’t find a more passionate staff who care for their animals better than Woodland Park Zoo. The zoo does fantastic work towards wildlife conservation and takes a strong mission stance of providing meaningful experiences to inspire taking action for wildlife. Every dollar you spend there towards ticket prices, souvineers, anything, will go toward taking care of those important animals in their care, as well as wildlife conservation. Some examples of conservation foundations they work with are the Snow Leopard Trust, Tree Kangaroo Program and Malayan Tiger Project, among many more. It’s a must-visit if you’re in Seattle!

  • 5/5 John Britto E. 2 years ago on Google
The zoo had plenty of exhibits closed but the ones open (white wolf, penguins, snow leopard etc) were worth it. What's more worth it in the winter is the Wild Lanterns show, it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! There was a lot of crowd to enjoy it too!

  • 4/5 Rebecca C. 2 years ago on Google
Came to see animals during summer time was fun, but who would have thought winter is also good to visit the zoo? I went in again recently before WildLanterns ends this year. Pretty impressive on how many lanterns they’ve set up. Not only animals but also plants and some Chinese culture-related exhibits for the upcoming Lunar New Year. Designs are very vivid. If you are bringing kids, make sure to stop by the interactive area, the canons and bubble machines are my favs

I always love going to the Woodland Park Zoo although sometimes it can be frustrating when the animals are not out and about. Not the zoo's fault πŸ˜‰ I went last weekend to the WildLanterns exhibit with my husband and two small kiddos - it was magical!!! The former Zoo Lights was fun but they've really stepped up their game. It was incredible. I would definitely recommend!!

Affordable for a family of 5. Parking was easy to access for a small fee. Gives yourself plenty of time to experience the zoo to its fullest. Bring your own snacks as there's no restaurants open.

Really nice zoo. The enclosures for the animals were spacious and allowed for roaming. Going on a rainy Monday there weren't many people in attendance and it often felt like we had the park to ourselves.

  • 4/5 Heather B. 1 year ago on Google
Woodland Park Zoo is a beautiful zoo, with trails lined with greenery, between each exhibit. The property is divided into habitats where each species is native to (temperate forest, African Savannah, Australasia, Northern Trail, Tropical Rainforest, Tropical Asia, etc.). We were lucky to be there on a nice day, so most of the animals were out enjoying the Sun. As of April 6, 2022, the indoor exhibits, like the Bug world and Willawong Station, were still closed, due to COVID restrictions. Sometimes, there will be zoo associates at certain exhibits, who you can ask questions about the animals. They are very knowledgeable and offer more education about the species. Currently, there is only one building where you can get food, like burgers and pizza. The food is okay, but pretty overpriced in my opinion. They do allow you to bring in your own food and drink. There are many areas where you can sit on the grass and eat if you would like. I think some areas are pretty aged, and in need of some updates. I also miss some of the indoor exhibits, like the tropical rainforest area, where the tree frogs, snakes, and birds used to be viewable. I think the ticket prices are a little overpriced as well… it comes out to just under $50 for one adult and one child. If you are a local and anticipate visiting more than once a year, then the yearly membership makes much more sense than buying a ticket each time you go. Overall, it is a very nice zoo, and worth bringing the little ones for the day.

  • 5/5 Samir A. 1 year ago on Google
I wish we had a little more time to see all of it. With kids, you probably need at least 3 to 4 hours to be able to see it all. We'll go back soon πŸ™‚

I really love the woodland park zoo. I am a member and have been going since I was a child. Every time is completely different. I recently went on a Wednesday afternoon and only had about 10 other people (that I saw there) in the zoo with me. I was really nice to walk around without a large crowd. I would recommend coming to this zoo if you haven't before.

Great zoo, I have 3 children 2 are teens. We haven’t been to this zoo since 2018. The animals were so active during our visit. The zoo looks like it is getting some new additions and some renovations. Everything is pretty nice looking and the animals and enclosures look well taken care of. Spoke with a few zoo keepers and enjoyed our visit. April 8/2023 If you’ve never been I highly recommend. Great medium size zoo and lots of great animal view points etc. lots of places for little children to have fun. Washrooms are all over the park and kept very clean. The staff that work here do a great job.

What a fabulous zoo this is. A great place to spend the whole day with your family. I saw a wild wolf here for the first time in my life. There are even some penguins and a great white polar bear. The animals are taken care of very well.. they are so clean... That's why I don't appreciate the caging of animals..

  • 5/5 Karen K. 9 months ago on Google
My family loves coming to this zoo. It typically takes 2-3 hours for us to go through the whole thing. There are many animals to see and they are separated by areas of the world. For example, the savanna, rain forest, pacific north west, etc... Parking is plentiful with multiple lots, but i have always gone early in the day.

  • 5/5 Tara B. 9 months ago on Google
We have the family membership which I recommend even if you only go a couple of times a year. It is a beautiful walk any time. We especially like going on a week day spring or summer. The bear and orangutan enclosures are our favorites.

A nice sized zoo with a decent variety of animals. My family visited on a week day in the summer and it was CROWDED with summer campers and families. Having visited several other locations in Seattle with various crowds, this was the least pleasant of the experiences. While not the fault of the zoo, the exhibits were not designed well to accommodate the numbers. Not the greatest, nor the worst zoo I've visited, but will not be returning.

  • 4/5 Fluffy F. 8 months ago on Google
Petting farm animals is a wonderful experience for tots. Most of the animals were asleep, but it was still a fun time with family. Avoiding weekends would be wise as it is over crowded and all the parking lots are full. Going early is highly recommended.

Awesome!!! Drove down from Vancouver for the day with some friends from Seattle. Love the massive & natural enclosures. We were there for 3 hours and maybe saw 30% of the zoo. Would highly recommend. Will definitely be going back to explore more. Even with gas, I think it was cheaper than 2 adult passes and parking at the Vancouver Aquarium πŸ˜‚

One of the nicer zoos in the country. Very large --allow 3-4 hours. Parking is a separate fee from admission. There are four different parking lots and entrances --remember where you parked. Traffic was crazy in that area, so allow plenty of travel time to get to and from the zoo.

Beautiful place to enjoy with family, friends or even just to chill by yourself. The Zoo is very clean and very well taken care of plus is pretty easy to see the animals. I would recommend that you arrive early because is less crowded and you get to see all the animals with a perfect view. The food is a bit to expensive in my opinion, so if you can take your own is also a good option.

We visited the Woodland Park Zoo on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. We have visited the Dallas Zoo and the Jacksonville Zoo over the past few years and I am sorry to say I would rank the Woodland Park Zoo at the bottom. Everything is too spread out and you just don’t get close to the animals like you do at other zoos. My wife, 6-year-old daughter, 3-year-old son, and myself all paid admission which totaled more than $80. Didn’t seem worth it. But I do want to point out a couple positives. The sloth bears are really cool looking! It was neat to see such a unique animal. Also, we ate lunch at the zoo. My wife and I each got chicken strips and fries while the kids got burgers and fries. Portions are big and the food is tasty.

Very cool experiences, you can easily get lost in this zoo not the biggest I’ve been to but it can feel like maze at some point. Multiple close encounters as well, i especially enjoyed the bears, could’ve watched them for hours trying and also succeeding on catching the fish

An amazing zoo with more than expected animals. Staff are friendly and facilities are maintained very well given how large the zoo is. You won't go wrong visiting the zoo, tip is to head in early as the whole zoo experience will take 3 hours or so.

Very fun Zoo with great layout and wide walk-ways. I would highly recommend the Dole whip and a visit to the new Bear/lynx area. They have a red panda which is normally being a cute lazy dude up in his tree and munching on his food. Staff is always chill and friendly, don't forget to check out the barn yard animal area they have some tiny goats and cows along with a big ol curly haired pig. Definitely would recommend.

Loved this zoo! Since it is setup in a park it has a forest like surrounding. Takes about 5 hours to leisurely stroll around the zoo and has variety of animals and you'll always get to see all of them. Happy to see a Jaguar and a Snow Leopard for the first time in a zoo. The glass walls had some smudges could use some cleaning as people couldn't see some animals behind the glass. The staff is very knowledgeable and has answers to any of your questions about these animals. Parking is limited and gets full very quickly. Overall a pleasant experience, would visit again in future.

Zoo animals!! πŸ‘€πŸ˜ I'm glad to have gotten some cool photos from my visit. I had many more but my favorite is the Zebra's and then the Rhinos. October's Pumpkin Bash is so much FUN! Taking kids of any age is a great experience and this year they added a costume parade, trick or treating, and a scavenger hunt. Kids in costume under 12 for in free with one paid adult which was great too.

We went to Wild lanterns for the holiday season. It's a really fantastic time, especially if you have kids. My daughter loved it. The only caveat is that parking is pretty insane, especially on weekends.

  • 5/5 Caleb F. 3 months ago on Google New
Saw the holiday lights exhibit, very fun. There are still small kids and families on weekday nights but it is not as crowded or as loud as weekdays at the zoo. The two open animal exhibits during this time seem to be the penguins and the Komodo dragons- the bug house is closed off. The interactive area is fun for all ages although it seems to be geared towards kids- I don't think a kid could beat the panda lights game though! I scored 830 and won, the woman in front of me scored 500 and lost.
