Stayed here November 1st-8th, 2022. Arrived opening day after the hotel has been closed for almost 3 years. The renovations that they had completed were very nice. Airconditioning in our room worked great. Beds were comfortable. The hotel was lacking in some areas, but I did not have high expectations considering Cuba is going through such hard times right now. I heard alot of other customers complaining... The buffet was good, was surprised not to see any chicken or fish though... We had 4 a la carte dinners, the first 2 were good, the 3rd was a repeat and decided to skip the 4th because the buffet was better. The drinks at the bar were always warm, given the exception of the beer. We were a group of 10, we all really enjoyed our stay until about day 4-5 when a serious case of diahrrea started to hit us all. (And yes we know not to drink the tap water) We all ate and drank different things so no way of really pin pointing what it was that we ate that did not agree with any of us. The beach was nice, always wavey, some days more then others. Staff was friendly, expecally the entertainment team. I saw other hotels in the area while out on my excursion, and I must say, I think this hotel would have to be one of the nicest in Holguin. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to visit Holguin. Just keep in mind Cuba is going through some rough times, I do believe given that we arrived opening day, that they did the best they could with what they had available to them.

Absolutely loved this hotel when we visited in 2016 - just forgot to review lol. Great location, the best coffee in the WORLD! Great hospitality. One of my best trips! Please note that the 5* may not live up to your expectations if you are comparing it to the West - so please go with an open mind and you will not be spending lots of time in your room - there is the whole of Cuba to discover! We took a trip to Havana - 10 hour drive! Nice to see the sights but next time, we will fly there.

Absolutely loved this Cuban resort! The pristine beach was a dream, true gem. The location was perfect and excellent service. A few stairs to the beach. The veggie options in October were limited. but the constant joyous atmosphere with live music every evening made the stay truly memorable and the staff were incredibly friendly. We will definitely come back for more. P.S. I would also suggest a catamaran excursion with Suncruise, which offers a fantastic and unforgettable opportunity to interact with dolphins and enjoy some incredible diving. This experience costs around $100.

Fantastic resort. Rooms were clean and air conditioning worked fabulously. Food was good especially at the snack. White sand on the beach.

This is a beautiful hotel, with a lovely sandy beach. At the moment it is in the middle of total renovations, so only half of the premises is open. Although plenty of facilities are functioning. The staff are very helpful, and friendly, plus a good customer service and on site professional medical clinic. I would have given them an extra star, sadly to say I can't. This is due to the fact that the quality of food and variety served has gone down hill, since the last time we were there. The hot buffet often looked re-circulated and was sometimes lukewarm or cold. Very little fresh fish and not much choice of fresh fruit. Also while we were there only one elevator was working for a period of two weeks. The reception desk was also understaffed and for tourists checking in and out, there was always a line up. Often only one person checking people in and out, which is not acceptable. Especially when tired tourists have arrived after a long journey. There is no reason why these problems can't be rectified. The Melia chain of hotels have a reputation to live up to so should do something about it.

Great people, gorgeous beaches, the sea, the landscapes all together, an awesome experience. The horseback riding with good horses and friendly people right across the road from the resort is a big bonus, the one that keeps us coming year after year. However, if you go there for a gourmet experience, it will disappoint you.

Warm water (Jan 3-10), clear skies no rain during the stay, emerald colour water, beach with fine sand, natural shade (palm trees and one more species of trees) it’s absolutely beautiful. One downside is the food, every day is the same. There is food for Everyone (pork, beef, chicken, rice, pasta, see food, like shrimp/octopus, calamari , eggs, soups, and a nice variety of desserts, but three times a day for the whole vacation same food, would be nice to have a diversity. Staff is very helpful and friendly, rooms are clean and cleaned every day. Bathrooms were renovated. Not very suitable for elderly people or with strollers or disabilities (wheelchair) because there are 59 steps on the way to the beach and up but there is a possibility to go a bit around those stairs (2 min more of walk). We recommend this hotel and will come back !

First I would like to start with all the positive things.I went there on 31 dec for New Year’s Eve 2023 with my family for one week. The staff are very nice and hospitable, always with a smile and treat you with respect. The view from up is beautiful and the sea was nice. However, I have to say the food was not good because there was very little variety and my daughter got a bacteria called Shigella. I have never heard of it before but a day after we arrived from our trip, she had terrible diarrhea and high fever. Doctors here in Canada had to call public health because this bacteria doesn’t exist here.the food looked recirculated and honestly there was no juice, fish only in a La carts. And all the a La Carte restaurants are the same either Italian, Mediterranean or international same menus.often there was no hot water to take a shower so that wasn’t pleasant.the hotel is half under construction the Luna side. It’s been advertised that the hotel y mares side was renovated but the rooms really still have very old furniture and the mattress doesn’t look clean. there was no entertainment for little children that I was aware of.Honestly resort with some changes can be very good because with the staff they have it can be excellent. I know Cuba is going through a hard time so that’s why perhaps the food isn’t much so It’s sad . Other than that we had a good time me and my family but hoping there will be changes in the years to come.

We have been at this place 8 times and we will go again in April 2023. Our last time was Jan. 2023. The renovations are on going but what has been done is very good and a 4.5 for us. The staff is very well trained and experienced. The beach is wonderfull and vary clean. The food is good and well presented. The entire resort is always clean and you can feel that tourists there are at ease and happy. There are plentifull of activities and please visit my friend at the very near little parc to have a nice walk on the trails. His name is Osvani.

Absolutely stunning resort, many options for both adult and youth. Rooms were in stunning condition and we always arrived home to a beautifully made bed with cute notes. Entertainment was awesome. Amauri from entertainment did and excellent job making us feel right at home and comfortable. Taught us a little about the country and the people. The food was delicious and the beaches were beyond perfect. 10/10 would recommend.

We are currently a family of 6 here in the hotel, it’s a beautiful hotel, with no issues on the renovations nothing can be heard, pool area is very clean and the pool bar run by Ivan is the absolute best!! The entertainment team are fantastic, especially Anyer who sat and spoke with us many times with genuine interest and conversation, and the daytime entertainment was great! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Beautiful, relaxing beach, nice renovated rooms, friendly cheerful staff and fresh food, if lacking in variety. They do try at least so we had cabbage cucumber salad about 10 ways. There are a lot of stairs down to the beach but there is an option to walk along a windy road if you don't feel like it. When I go back I'll bring mustard and maybe some hot sauce. And I'd pack some flipflops and clothes to give to some of the local Cubans who requested these things. Bring US dollar bills for tips - coins are annoying for everyone to deal with. I never did find my favourite cocktail at any of the bars but the beer was refreshing. There's no sargassum, there's free wifi at the beach, what more do you want?

We had an amazing honeymoon here. The beach is magnificent! Hotel is a bit dated but they are renovating! They went the extra mile by organizing a surprise dinner for us! Also there are a lot of trips you go on from the hotel, so there is a lot to do. Friendly staff and the food was good. Also the people are amazingly friendly. We always had the feeling we were safe wherever we went. There might be a power outage now and then but that is Cuba!

Although we didn’t stay at Sol Rio De Luna Y Mares this time in Guardalavaca we wish we had! We visited and saw that the hotel has been beautifully renovated and our old friend Yunior from another hotel now works there!!! This hotel is very lucky to have Yunior as part of their entertainment team… We will definitely come here next time, especially if Yunior is there! He played tennis with my husband in the past (at another hotel) and is a very helpful and talented guy. Sol Rio also has a large and very nice strip of beach.

We stayed for 5 nights and booked 8 rooms for our whole family. The hotel itself needs a lot of repairs. The swimming pool was dirty on the mares side. The rooms need renovated. The buffet has long lines. I do have to say that the animation was really good, especially Anyer. He was friendly, attentive and fun. I loved the scenery and the beautiful beach. I just wish they would renovate the hotel. We stayed here 3 years ago and I noticed the difference. I gave three stars because of that.

We stayed for 2 weeks and I loved my stay at Sol Rio de Luna y Mares. I was pleasantly surprised with our view when we arrived. The majority of staff were super sweet and they felt like family. Especially Anderson (one of the dancers), Pablo (the bartender) , Ryan Luis, Lenny and Yoliere at the front desk. So glad to have met them! The only notes I have is I wish there was more variety food-wise. But there are shortages. Overall fun stay!

We just finished a family vacation here and had such a nice time. You can't beat the beach, the snorkeling, or the staff. Raul the activities coordinator/entertainer was amazing and organized some soccer for us and played volleyball with us as well. All the staff like family. The staff and the beach was the BEST part of the resort. Would definitely recommend to others and would come back again.

Clean rooms, good room service. To get to the beach, you need to go down the steps 52 steps down. Nice beach , very quick deep water.Poor food.breakfast lunch and dinner it’s almost same.entertainment is ok. A lot of locals come for the weekend. At this time it is very difficult to find a place in the shade on the beach.

Starting off even though our flight was long delayed we still got a nice check in and our rooms right away there is a pool bar serving food 24/7. The beds are definitely very nice and comfortable as the time went on we realized they really improved the hotel it has its own water supply and water treatment plant (far away) also its own generators and the wifi is very good for cuban standards (just a little worse than German standards) altho you need to explicitly ask at the reception to get you wifi password and name . The breakfast has a wide variety of local food. The lunch also has a wide variety and for everyone something. For the dinner you even can book a table at the other restaurants to get something else like Mediterranean or Cuban food. All in all considering there is a food shortage in Cuba and problems with importing food it definitely is one of the top hotel if not the top hotel. There a multiple things like a gym, beauty salon and multiple bars

Just got back from a wonderful 7 days at this resort. This was our second time there and we absolutely love it there! The food was excellent.... fresh fish and vegetables everyday . Excellent variety at the buffet and the man who made the omelets and cooked the fish at lunch time was so sweet. I highly recommend the Spanish lessons with Irena... she was excellent. Also a big thank you going out to Anyer who does the entertainment. He was so helpful and made our visit there an wonderful experience. You really do have a great staff at your resort and I would highly recommend you visit this place.

The room service was good, nice and clean. And the location of the hotel is great. Have a really beautiful beach. The service in the other hand is really bad. The food was really bad. There were no really a choice of drinks. The the animation wasn’t really a thing. Overall wouldn’t suggest the place

This is a MUST!! If you haven’t booked SRLM yet, you must do it now. All I can say is WOW! For the 3th time (2nd this year) it was such an amazing experience. The beach is breathtaking and so many beautiful sites to take great pictures. This time we were there to 9 days ,had great time and an experience my husband and I will never forget. This is a place where you feel at home from the first day and make friends with its employees. This friendship remains not only during your stay but also after you go home. The attitude of the employees towards customer's and the location of the hotel with breathtaking beach always clean sand , clear water , very clean hotel and nice renovated rooms are the reasons why lots of people are return there for dozens of time. We are sure we also will be among those who will return to this fabulous place. For those who , when choosing Cuba , think about exclusive food, I advise you to choose another location. We come to Cuba for warm ocean water, sun, beach and unbelievable friendly people. Despite struggling with food shortage , they still conjure up very tasty food. There is no reason to worry about being hungry or thirsty. Here is to many people whose names I would like to mention so I will just stick to general THANK YOU to all managers, and service employees including gardeners and cleaners. Thank you so much for making our stay unforgettable. The one hour transportation was very entertaining and comfortable plus our bus coach was hilarious and made the ride there & back fun! I highly recommend this Sol Rio de Luna y Mares to everyone. Hola all my friends from Irena and Andrew B.

Absolutely loved this resort! Nicely laid out, with a quiet side and a side with more activity, the resort is set on a hill that overlooks the beach, so a lot of rooms have ocean views. Beautiful and well maintained grounds with lots of hedges and trees. The beach has ruined us for any other beaches...it's got to be the best beach in Cuba! Gorgeous white sand, lots of beautiful trees and the water is that pretty aqua colour and clear and clean. We never go anywhere twice, but are considering returning here.

Fantastic resource with great people. The beach was one of the nicest beaches I have been to in Cuba. We loved this resort and I hope everyone can experience the wonderful people that work there. Please everyone help these people and tip them. You have money to travel so an extra $100 for the week will not kill anyone. I did not see many people leave tips and that was extremely dissapointing. We also brought gifts for the people and they are so grateful for everything we brought. Again, for half the cost of other resorts in Dominican I would take this experience over any other and will definitely visit again next year
