Church of San Isidoro The Councilor at that time, Don Diego de Avila y de la Torre, was one of the promoters of building the Church. Its building was built very poorly with wood, being blessed on April 3, 1720 and the first Mass being celebrated the following day, April 4. The first parish priest, Father Don Juan Gonzalez de Herrera y Lopez, officiated the Mass. In 1730, it was built again in the same place with better quality materials. It is located in the historic center of the city, it stands right in front of where on April 4, 1545 the Founding Mass of the Hato de San Isidoro de Holguin was celebrated. It was restored in 1993, elevated to Cathedral in 1979 and consecrated Cathedral by Cardinal Camilo Ruini on January 4, 1994.

The first church dedicated to San Isidoro, was designed by the architect D. Diego de Ávila y de la Torre and was blessed on April 3, 1720 when Cuba was still under the rule of the Spanish Empire. The Cathedral of San Isidoro, inaugurated as a parish church between 1818 and 1820, is a structure with a "T"-shaped construction. The church was elevated to Cathedral status in 1979 under the pontificate of Pope John Paul II and officially consecrated in 1996. It is a solid building with three large doors and recessed columns and a pediment in the center that defines the facade. Its Moorish interiors have finely crafted wooden ceilings.
