Rusinga Island Lodge has its highlights, including a good breakfast menu and scenic views. However, the overall experience was hindered by a few drawbacks. The dinner menu, though localized, didn't offer the expected variety. Housekeeping proved to be a challenge, impacting the overall cleanliness of the rooms. The room ambience could benefit from an upgrade. Water had run out and had to be fetched from the Lake for us to pour on our bodies for a bath. Additionally, noise levels were high due to non-guests coming in for meals and taking photos, affecting the private experience. While the views were enjoyable, these factors contribute to a mixed three-star rating.

Deep inside the lush green trees at the shores of Lake Victoria in Mbita; lies this magnificent beauty. Rusinga is simply magnificent. You may want to visit during the off-peak season. Service is exemplary, the views are just breathtaking. Fishermen light up the night skies and turn the lake into a small town that does not sleep at night. It is definitely a great place to visit with friends and family.

I expected good fresh food especially fresh fish options since the hotel is right off the lake. They had only food that I can access in any other place. It wasn't unique to its location nor indigenous to rural Kenya.Big disappointment for me.

This place is really nice especially the garden and lake view, would recommend it for anyone who wants to have a quiet serene time out, honeymoon or vacation. Not much is available for kids other than swimming pool but then again that could be a biased view since I was here only a few hours to shoot a wedding. The staff are friendly we interacted with some cooks, Lincy the lady in charge that day and the receptionist, very professional. Long rough road and you go through some informal settlement before you get here but the drive was good even with rains.

The rooms are very nice and cozy, but it seems that they are beginning to show their age a bit. Broken toilet seats, the downlighters not working and so on. Leaves the rooms a bit dark. One bathroom, the ones used by the kids was rather dimly lit and they complained frequently. The place has lots of potential but it is untapped. Especially on the water side, they have a wonderful beach on the lake but they don't do much with it. Another issue was how long food would take to be prepared. I think they were overwhelmed by the numbers during the holiday season. The food would come at times 2 hours after the order. The staff however were very friendly and helpful despite these challenges. Kudos to Liz, Bella and Laura who were very helpful during our stay. There was a loud disco or something close to the lodge that played music till almost 4am in the morning. This was really bad for sleep quality as it kept us up. Overall, it is a lovely place with lots of potential but it is largely untapped. It is good but highly overrated.

Rusinga Island Lodge is beautiful and serene. The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms are quite spacious with comfortable beds and hot showers. The food is okay, it does take time to be prepared. It's actually a perfect location, but however beware that going on the weekend it can be very noisy from a nearby night club which I suspect has been normalised by the management at Rusinga Island.

Tarmac ends some metres from Rusinga Bridge and forks into two...the graded road has pockets of bad patches whichever side you choose. Low speeds are advised to keep from blowing dust to the pedestrians. Service is prompt, fresh food, ample sitting space-indoors/outdoors. Sadly the pier is gone.....cannot take the walk into the lake-you balance on the remaining planks.

The journey from Nairobi to Mbita by road then to Rusinga Island is a long one but worth the effort. Travelling by day exposes one to different scenic features, weather changes and different human activity depending on culture and prevailing weather conditions. The lake town of Mbita bustles with fishermen and traders of all kind, the signature smell of fish is hard to ignore but the journey is not complete without getting to the Rusinga Island Lodge. Their foods are mouthwatering, lake view captivating and their rooms comfortable and serene. It's a journey worth taking.

This lodge has a very scenic view. We watched the sunset here and it was spectacular. I can't comment on the state of the rooms because I never spent as night there but we had dinner here and it was not bad. Only issue is the waiter got our order wrong even after coming back twice to confirm it. The only other issue is how far the place is esp if you're using a vehicle. There's a 10KM rough road just after the Rusinga bridge. You can't even go fast esp if your car is low. Other than that they have a great view of the lake.

Want a new experience away from Mombasa? Try Rusinga Island Lodge. It's some 8km or so from the tarmac (Rusinga Bridge). Boat ride, kayak all available.

I held my wedding at the lodge and it was simply the best!! The scenic views brought life to it and nothing could beat how harmonious it felt being in tune with nature through the whole process. The staff were so professional. Maurice made the process so smooth and Bella was always there to ensure that our needs were catered for. The food was so delicious and our guests loved the whole experience.

It is a hotel that has been here for a long while . They have a really beautiful lakefront. Their grounds are also really beautiful and well maintained. The rooms are spacious and well fitted out. The decor is very rustic. The staff were friendly.

Most beautiful, luxurious Hotel in the Region. Breathtaking garden, and Lake Views, plenty of water sport activities, Great service.

Came here as a group in the evening. I think the establishment is not used to handling large numbers because asking for an additional cup for tea took over 45m and numerous requests. The service was the worst I have experienced in a long time. The only reason I would not give it a one is because I would have to write a longer, more detailed review.

A must visit while in Rusinga, this place has great ambiance with the rooms being traditionally luxurious, The food is worth the wait and delicious and pricey. Ample parking space. Services is average. Free wifi .Has a clean swimming pool and massage services available at request.

The ambience is superb, I loved also the jetski. The food portion is small not advisable when you are extremely hungry. Not a variety of food available. No juices available particularly fresh ones. The pork is not well marinated but its manageable.

The environment is lovely and serene. The service is a bit slow. The food was cold and it took a long time to be served. The menu had alot of options but on inquiry they did not have them available. One person got their meal after the rest finished eating and we were a big group.

Rusinga Island Lodge was a cool place. This was evident as I enjoyed the breeze from the lake together with the cold nature of the forest.

Natural ambience with traditional African touch that adds to it's classic-ness with natural of nature's call of the lake and birds. It's the quiet environment and the green space. Am in love.

Scenic beach resort. Ideal for stay overs. They allow day visits but are not ready prepared for them. Maybe plan and call ahead before the day visit so that meals and such are arranged for before hand. It's right next to the Tom Mboya Museum and so a plan to visit here after works out very well.
