Very similar (taco-wise) to Bonito Michoacan. The lengua and pastor tacos were great! I like their tortillas. The salsa bar is nice (warning, the orange sauce is spicy). Overall I thought th prices were very fair and that the flavors were worth coming back for

I'm so happy they moved to a bigger location! the top part is the restaurant and the bottom is a little market/store with its own carneceria ( meat shop). I think the restruant is really cute for going with the loteria theme! most of the options they sell are in spanish and even the food upstairs it has a lot of Spanish which I think lends to the authenticity. but they do have it written in English what is in the food! also bistec is just means carne asada. ordered the birria quesadilla and when I got it I thought they just gave me tacos. but it indeed have cheese in it and a generous amount of meat with pickled onions. it was just so good. it's messy to eat but so worth it and the soup they give you to dip the tacos in is also very generous. I like to add some Limon to it and drink the rest while it's hot. the menu options are very good and I can't wait to try more but those bittia quesadillas were just so good idk when I'll get around to trying more of their menu. also looks like they might open a dessert or ice cream shop in the restaurant part of the shop so I'm looking forward to it.

Authentic, insanely delicious Mexican food. We’ve tried the tacos, gorditas, tortas, churros, and best of all, the quesa birria. Don’t miss the aguas frescas at the dessert bar to drink with your meal. The agua de jamaica and agua de piña-mango were perfect.

I genuinely have given this place a few chances but almost everything I get from there turns out to be expired. This time I went for some strawberries and cream and the expiration date was 2021! It’s unbelievable they keep food that expired. It’s careless that they can’t keep track of this things. So just a heads up to make sure you pay attention to things like this…

Looked authentic, so I figured they could make a good burrito. Apparently Chipotle does it better. Lettuce was old, chicken was dry and the burrito was not wrapped well. Don't worry guys! NOT coming back! :D

So SO excited this place is back open. The food is OUTSTANDING and complimented by a deep menu. The inside of the newly renovated building is clean, organized, and very vibrant. Staff knows they scored big here and are very friendly and cordial. The quesa burria was amazing by itself, yet alone when it was dipped into the consommé. I’d eat here every day if I could!

Best tacos in Lawrence - hands down. You'll notice there are a lot of tacos in this town, given the large college population. But there's really no reason to go elsewhere for tacos. Authentic, spicy, and delicious. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

Very authentic Mexican food and gives the real feeling of being in Mexico! People are friendly and food is very tasty. Price is also great for the amount of food you get. Best Mexican restaurant in town.

CANNOT RECOMMEND: I read good reviews, so I thought I would try it out. I ordered a Pastor burrito. It was a Saturday, people were eating menudo. It looked and smelled really good. My burrito looked and smelled good. The problem came when I ate it. The first bite: 100% rice. The rice tasted good, but I ordered meat. It was probably 90% rice, 5% lettuce, 5% meat. $9 for a rice burrito isn't something I would recommend. Go somewhere else.

I haven't been to the new place so while tooling around 23rd street, hubby and I popped in. First, it's much, much larger than the former place. Second, it's a colorful layout. The counter's in the rear and you order your food like before but they bring it out to you. Finally, the beer selection is more extensive and they keep an opener by the cash register for your use (I find this very whimsical and cool). We sat at a table painted in vibrant tropical colors with chairs to match. Our food was brought to us. Ok, the food. THE FOOD!!!!!! I ordered 2 Carne tacos which came on corn tortillas, onions and cilantro. Also ordered the no Carne burrito which is huge and is filled with rice and refried beans. I purposely ordered too much food so I'd have leftovers because thats how much I love this food. The Carne was incredibly tender and seasoned just perfectly with a bit of a bite. The onions and cilantro rounded out the entire taco experience. Just freaking delicious. My burrito had a bit more rice than I liked so next time I'll request poquito arroz. Nonetheless, it was a generous burrito and very appetizing. The refried beans were a bit tangy melded with the seasoned rice. Pretty darn good. The salsas I will warn you are muy caliente but dang, they're fantastic. The burn is worth it as it disappears and doesn't leave that "hot taste" in your mouth. Hubby had chicken tamales and I swear I've never, ever seen hubby clear a plate that quick. I'm still a bit peeved he didn't share. He proclaimed the two tamales absolutely delicious! I will have to order those next time and WILL NOT SHARE with hubby. If I could give this place more stars I would. The food is definitely the best Mexican food in larryville. The ambience is ok, mostly because the TV was blasting a soccer game. Service was quick and efficient. The staff doesn't have alot of people who speak English but they get the job done well. It's clean and BTW, you bus your table yourself. There's a market downstairs which I didn't check out. I'll rectify that next visit. And yes, there will be a next visit and relatively soon. You see, hubby dropped my leftover box in the parking lot. So, I'll fill you in on what I try next!

I went in for the first time today. They're kind of hidden away, but their service is extremely friendly. The food came out fast. The restaurant was clean. They were busy and everyone seemed happy. Would recommend getting food here any day of the week

I had the burrito and my husband had the tacos. Very tasty. Large portions. Love their salsa, nice and spicy. You can even purchase large quantities of it in their little store on the lower level.

This place has the best Mexican food I have ever had in my entire life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the tacos de papa. They are a very delicious VEGETARIAN taco option. Additionally, the inside of this location is very cute and has a great selection of desserts and drinks!

The food was okay. It seemed pretty similar to every other Mexican restaurant in town. My only complaint is regarding service and ordering. Online ordering on the website was not the best with incorrect information, prices etc. Also, when actually arriving to pickup the order, it was very confusing and challenging.

Everything was so wonderful! No time for food pictures - we were busy eating 😳 We got quesabirria, torta de jamon, and dulce de leche from the dessert bar. Everything was delicious!! So happy to you back La Estrella!

I am constantly surprised by the gems found in Lawrence, KS and this is among the treasure troves. I have lived in Guatemala and Honduras and hands down, this place represents Central American cuisine. The al pastor tacos are beyond legit. Bonus, there is a grocery store on the lower level where one can find proper tortillas.

Great authentic Mexican. If you're into "taco bell" this isn't your place. If you're into fresh, tasty and real then this is the way to go!

The best Mexican food in Lawrence. By far. Everything on their menu is delicious. The carnitas tacos are the best tacos I've ever had outside California.

Absolutely exquisite food. Family is very nice. The menu is great, and a great price. They moved to a new location. The new place is nice, clean, and vibrant.

I went yesterday because I needed some quick food and was surprised to find one of the best taco shops in the city. The tacos are amazing, staff is friendly, clean, and quick. I had to come back today for 4 more tacos. I highly recommend it. Try their hot sauce too.

Carnitas and pastor tacos are top notch, among the best in town. Salsa roja also excellent. Beef and pollo fillings are alright but better elsewhere.

Wonderful! Great food choices from the taqueria, made fresh to order. Small service butcher counter with lots of fresh meat options as well as salsas and cheese. The market side has a deep selection of snacks, spices, dry and canned goods, and even cooking equipment. This little shop is packed with everything you might be looking for from Central America. The owners and staff are nice, welcoming, and helpful. Will be back often!

I mean wow, this place has the BEST food. I am not even a huge taco shop or taco enthusiasts like some of my friends, but this place blows any competition out of the water. Family owned business that is doing it right. Huge quesidillas, huge burritos. Make sure you try the the marraschaeacha- this is a burrito with a bunch of types of meats - ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!
