When I was a kid, my grannies took me to Golden Phoenix Restaurant on a special occasion. I still remember the exciting moment when they poured the sauce on the iron plate. Today I revisited this Hong Kong style steakhouse with my family, and the good old memories came flooding back. Efficient service as always. Right after we got seated, the staff asked "Red or white soup?" My choice is always red. Appetizing borscht with lots of veggies. Sprinkled white pepper on top to make it even more tasty. Dipping the warm bun into the soup - another recommended way to enjoy! I knew exactly what to order without looking at the menu - tenderloin on iron plate. I requested medium with more browning on the surface. As soon as the steak was served, we got to pick garlic or black pepper sauce. Both savory but wouldn't overwhelm the original flavor of the beef. Be sure to hold your napkin as the staff mount the sauce on the sizzling plate! The thick piece of meat was pinkish in the middle. Very tender but still tasted meaty, not soda tenderized at all. The chopped garlic was another highlight. Needed a bit of refreshment after the meat feast so I ordered iced lemon tea as the meal drink. This is an authentic Hong Kong style meal that no Western steakhouse could beat. Spending less than $150 for a decent steak at a restaurant with over 1/2 century history is totally worth the money.

I write this with mixed feelings because I went through all the motions of eating steak and I did in fact eat beef but that's the problem. The texture of their steaks doesn't taste like steak. If you've had proper Cantonese stir-fried beef that's super tender, that's the texture of the whole steak. I really enjoyed it. I also saw a really really old 80+ year old grandma enjoy it so you know just how tender it is. I also want to mention that the small regular bread they serve is all warm and gooey and the cream soup is not creamy. So every texture you put in your mouth is non traditional. If you're craving for a juicy steak with some chew, this place won't be satisfying. But if you want to eat some affordable meat, get a number and start lining up!

Cheap, and with acceptable quality. The flow if ordering and seating arrangement is superb, they basically make use of every seat, and can deliver ur dish to u at the right time. Lunch at this price basically no complaint.

Hong Kong style old fashion steak house with long history but absolutely failed to fulfill the quality criteria by a long way. Meat was almost tasteless. Borsch soup was almost as plain as water! Food was no better than fast food served by Maxim’s but like triple the price!

Good classic family friendly restaurant. Good and efficient service. The famous sizzling steak is up to standard, a little more fries and less meat would be a better balance. Worth the experience with the family.

Local cuisine heaven! Steaks made HK style served sizzling on a hot skillet with some ginger and veggies. Soup starters, and bread, then the main event a delicious steak cooked the way you like it. English menu but VERY local if you don't speak Cantonese just point to what you want. I had the US sirloin steak. 145$ hkd around 24$ cdn. Go here if you're in town. A place to get Hong Kong style sizzling hot plate steak. Both the rye eye and sirloin steak are tendered and juicy. You can choose your steak to serve either in a hot plate or wood plate.

The red soup is yum! Freshly baked bun so soft! I ordered beef fillet set! Highly recommended but not during peak hour of course.

I ordered medium, and the beef was very tender and good. I really like the cream soup.

Asian style steak house. Large portion. Recommend to add extra garlic. Expect to Q up for table at peak houses. Fairly well price. Would definitely come back again.

Ordered the nobel steak that cost $208. It was more tender and juicier than most $250+ steaks I ate in other western restaurants. One of the best I've had for around $200. The staff was very kind and attentive, so nothing to complain. The only problem is that the seats were very crowded, but that's not a reasonable thing to complain about. Will come again with my friends.
