The Compton Arms, another venue in need of more Google Stars! Amazing, a huge asset to the local community. A small "local" pub of late Georgian origin by the looks of things. Great beer both on cask and keg, east London, west London, it's all here. The whole of Islington can be justifiably be proud that this place exists. The staff here are wonderful. Big kisses to the place.

The food here was really good. We went on a Sunday and had the Sunday lunch which was very good. The lemon sole was cooked to perfection, the chicken was ok (I prefer it crispy on the skin), excellent bavette tartar and all the rest were above the average gastropub. The only problem we had, was the attitude of some staff behind the bar , which were very rude - and unwelcoming. And since they include service charge (although you order by the counter and you get your own cutlery and water etc) they should pay more attention to the customer. Prices are ok. If they improve their service they will do a lot better !

I am absolutely astonished. They have a very tight and deliberate menu across the board. The wine choices are fantastic (biodynamic selections including an Orange), and the food (mainly sharing plates) offer some really wonderful options that are not your typical pub food. This is my new favorite pub. Hands down.

Four Legs are serving up a storm of sharing plates at the charming Compton Arms pub in Highbury and Islington. Arriving in the Compton Arms, you are immediately welcomed by the lovely bar staff. No matter what day of the week, this quaint pub is always busy. We took a table round the back of the bar after ordering a East London Negroni (£11). We had the following plates to share between the two of us: Fried New Potato Aioli £4 Burrata Black Olive £10 Meatball Berlotti Fennel £12 Cheeseburger £9.5 Olives on the side £3.50 We loved the East London Negroni here! The two things that make this different to a standard Negroni is they use East London Gin (win for the East London Girl!) and Antica Formula Vermouth instead of Dolin Rouge Vermouth. This makes the drink just as boozy, but slightly sweeter, and much smoother! The plates came out around the same time and we got stuck in trying them out. We absolutely loved the Burrata Black Olive which was super creamy just how it should be. The black olives give the Burrata a nice sour twist and all that was missing was some bread! With the cheeseburger, Four Legs have 100% gone for taste over making it ‘instagrammable’. The beef melted in your mouth and it was completed by a layer of tangy cheese and gherkins! The other absolute winner had to be the Fried New Potatoes with the Aioli dip. This were astonishingly good and very moreish. The potatoes were so fluffy on the outside and had a lovely crispy skin to them. The dip was beautiful and really complimented the texture and flavour of the potatoes. We had a very pleasant visit at the Compton Arms pub in Highbury and Islington. It would be so nice to work closer so we could pop in for drinks after work easily! It has a lovely atmosphere and serves some great drinks. We imagine that the food served by Four Legs will only make it more popular than it already is.

It's a fine pub, but the staff don't know how to pour a Guinness. Initially thought it might have been a once off, but it's a consistent problem. They just don't seem bothered. £6 for three inches of head. Edit to respond to owner. Hi Nick, this is not a photo of my pint last night but one last week. I mentioned it the first time it happened, but they just topped it up and I ended up with a sloppy glass and a hand full of Guinness head. Mostly the staff don't tilt the glass and pay lip service to letting it settle. As you say, it's frustrating, because you can tell that whoever is managing the cellar is doing a great job, but unfortunately is let down at the final hurdle.

Quaint little boozer tucked away in the back streets. Within a few minutes walk of station but being off the beaten track is a great combination. The garden is fairly small with furniture to match but it’s cosy and has a good atmosphere.

Went there during the heat wave at the end of the day and thank god the sun wasn’t too hard on us! The little backyard was perfectly cosy and cute. Too bad they didn’t have any pimms on a hot day like this, but we still enjoyed our spritz and some amazing food! Absolutely LOVED the crab and asparagus, the fried potatoes and aioli and let’s not forget that delicious cheeseburger! We ordered one for four to share thinking we could always order more later, what a mistake! It was sold out in minutes! Definitely going back for more!!

Amazing pop-up restaurant Tiella was there during our visit. The food was exceptional and many gluten free options available.

Love eating here - their resident chefs are always generating new menus. The current kitchen - Tiella - are serving outrageously delicious Italian food. Waiting staff generously explained every dish. Excellent selection of beer and other drinks also. It’s loud and lively, but with more secluded areas if you want it quieter.

This is our favorite neighborhood pub. It’s so cozy and wonderfully decorated on the inside, the people are friendly, it’s buzzing on Arsenal game days, and we’ve liked both kitchens we’ve experienced so far (Belly and Tiella). The Guinness is tops in London. Highly recommend!

Small, cosy venue. Overpriced. Short rib was just pieces of fat and cucumber for £20. King cabbage scrimped on the smoked mussels. Much prefer plimsoll. Service is good.

great friendly service, food came fast to the table. amazing vegetarian food, i loved all the dishes. unique flavors and super tasty, served at just the right temperature. good house red. only complaint is the pasta could have been a bit more flavorful but the starters and pudding (Guiness Cake) more than made up for it!

If you like a country pub feel, here it is, in the center of London. The Compton whilst quite a small pub has a big friendly feel. We were made to feel very welcome, the service was great and, for London, the beer is reasonable priced. Give the Compton a try. If you like a good pub, you'll love this one.

A lovely pub, just hidden from the main road. Probably one of the friendliest places I've been. An amazing welcome from staff. Had a couple of cracking pints .

We called in for a meal before attending a concert at Islington assembly hall last week. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Good choice of beers and very interesting menu. Excellent service. Wear warm clothes if you're sitting in the "outside " annex though.

Such a shame. Great look and feel of a pub, but it's VERY cramped inside and the staff were very rude about us in the beer garden. Told us we couldn't be there, and didn't tell us why. They let other people stay. Pints are central London prices and service was slow

I recently visit this place! Thanks god! A place reminds more European bar than pub! I love it one of my best Friday nights in the last year

A buzzing place for a pint, the guest kitchen was Italian food (I strongly recommend the fennel sausage and bean stew). Small sharing plates so spenny in proportion but filling and a bit upscale for a pub meal. Service is fantastic, really friendly and kind staff!

Everything about the experience was a 10, food was insane (do not skip the side salad it was a highlight for us), atmosphere was cosy yet lively, amazing service from the lovely Daisy. If we didn’t live in SE we would be down here every week, can’t wait to visit again !

Food is delish and their “garden” is a welcome addition. However, allowing smoking in the alley by the garden is definitely NOT welcome. Food and smoking do not go.

First visit to the Compton Arms on Friday. A great welcome as soon as we walked in and even though it was busy all the staff were smiling. Hubby asked for a bloody mary and was asked how spicy he wanted it. He was very impressed, even more so when it arrived with a chilli garnish - big thank you to Spike for that. We plan to visit again next time we are in London.

Lovely outdoor pub in cannonbury. Bit lively but fairly limited tap selection. Large outdoors diminishes the atmosphere a bit. Great spot for a family lunch.

Amazing back street boozer with a fantastic food offering and great drinks. Staff were friendly and welcoming there was a great selection of drinks with some good IPA on tap. Fantastic cocktails too and a small but we'll chosen wibe list. The food was great. Delicious rustic Italian small plates which were not super cheep for the size but were excellent quality and really tasty.

Food was superb - everything on the menu we ordered as couldn’t decide, one of best pub lunches in a very long time. The service was prompt and cocktails were delicious. We will be going back soon. A little gem of a pub just off Upper Street remains one the best in Islington. Great date place too!

I have come for a few beers before football, lovely little pub but I've had to give the pint of porter I bought back and exchange it for a pint of Pride, which was cloudy and tasted even worse. Now trying a Guiness...staff being lovely about it but the ales need avoiding here

3.75 stars. Having read all the positive reviews I was a bit hyped about going here. It was fine but not amazing. Staff were friendly and the food was nice (Raghu and Burger). Need to give them another chance.

Really enjoyed last week's mid-week visit. Previous visit 10 years ago or so. Still a good pub with local warmth and interesting lager beer selection. Staff friendly, and that day, a great islands/Trojan/ska music selection being played. Great place for a catch-up with mates.

Came for dinner on Friday night and the Belly guys have done an outstanding job. The menu is well curated and everything we ordered was packed with flavour without having to try to show off. The food is comforting, warming and leaves a smile on your face. The pub also has a lovely selection of wine and beer to boot. Overall, an extremely enjoyable experience.

Good community pub discreetly place, good beer, has eating area towards the back of the establishment. It has a concrete garden which is fairly large. Children also welcome. Can get busy when arsenal are playing at home. There are approximately 2 screens/TV around. All in all this pub everything for everyone

The Compton Arms is a lovely little hidden away pub. Staff are very attentive and friendly and the drinks are a decent price - £10 for cocktails. The only let down was the food. The food is quite pricey. We ordered a cheeseburger and at £10 it wasn't anything special, the burger bun was very thin and the hamburger was like a thin pattie. Wouldn't eat here again but lovely place for drinks!

Seemed like a nice little boozer on a busy Friday night. However when the red wine was fizzy and we asked to swap to a different one, and were happy to pay the difference, we were met with a not very friend denial and charged in full for a new glass. Staff then walked off. So in effect paid for two glasses of wine but only had one. 2 for 1, only they got it the wrong way around. Shame, we won't be back

Very average. The „Tiella“ italien food was good but really nothing special, especially not for the price and the ambient. Maybe my expectations were too high. It was also really loud. If you‘re looking for a place for a chill date night or to meet up with someone to have a relaxed conversation with, this is not the place. This place might be more suited for you if you are looking to get some drinks with friends and food is not the main event. Service was again okay. Not horrible but could definitely be improved.
