This local restaurant is famous for “pineapple bun with butter “菠蘿油 and Hong Kong style milk tea. So I ordered both which is $30 , no service charge. At 12:00 during weekday, the restaurant is not too crowded, of course lots of people come and get the takeaway. The pineapple bun with butter is so good! It is the best I had so far, the bun got a crispy and sweet crust, and the bun itself is soft and airy, it is slightly sweetened together with the butter which is salty, what a savory combination. And the milk tea got a good balance of tea and evaporated milk, it is smooth, not too milky, and the tea won’t be too bitter, a very Hong Kong style milk tea. Yummy!

This was my usual place to get pineapple bun with butter and Hong Kong style milk tea. With the pandemic, this was the first time I returned to Hong Kong after 4 years. The pineapple bun and milk tea are good, but I found several other restaurants (Sun Wah, Gold Garden) in Cheung Sha Wan that offer similar quality of food. The worst I found this time were the rude waitresses. They will find every opportunity to scold at you, order too slow, not knowing what to order, or any slight comments. The place is so packed that the round tables are right next to the booth seats. To deliver food to the customers at the booth seats, the food will have to be passed over the round tables. Even with very low expectations of services for tea restaurants, this is the worst I have experienced. I just finished my food and got out of there ASAP. I will never return.

Without a doubt, this place offers the best pineapple bun in Hong Kong. We visited for brunch, with my mom opting for their fried rice while I chose the fried noodles, similar to kway teow. The food was decent overall, but what stood out to me the most were the delicious bun and milk tea. I will certainly return to this place in the future.

Recently renovated restaurant- decor was lovely. Three stars are for the decor and ambience. The whole dining experience was not pleasant. We were rushed to sit down from the beginning. Heard many good things about their egg tart and pineapple bun before we came- it was disappointing. Egg tart came stone cold. The filling was vanilla flavored custard, which was nice but the crust was tough. The pineapple came warm but the butter was a lot thinner than it was on the picture as shown in the shop/ advertising photos. Just to note, there was a minimum spend of ordering one drink per person for dine ins - we were only notified after we sat down. Service was also not great. Staff rushed through the whole ordering process and showed rude attitude, even we placed our order as soon as we sat down. Did not understand the hype of this place at all.

I came here for breakfast at 9am with my friend. I came 10 minutes early so I sat down first. The waitress immediately asked if I ordered or not, I said not yet as I am waiting for my friend. 1 minute later, another waitress asked the same question and I replied the same. Then she told me ‘ you can just sit down when all guests arrived.’ I was shocked as there is no staff telling me when I came in, also, there are few tables available. 30 seconds later, the waitress asked me to order drinks first. I decided to leave as it’s really annoying. I told my friend what happened and she said it becomes famous so that’s why they did that. Last time she came here with her friend were treated the same. Indeed, it’s just a normal local restaurant which there is no big difference with others. I totally understand that they wanna have a quick return of tables to maximize the revenue, however, this is not the way to treat the customers. There are lots of authentic restaurants(Cha Chaan Teng) in Hong Kong which is much better than this so called ‘famous’ one.

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. First I like their curry pork cutlets which is very tasty and a hint of spicy 🌶. However, I was really looking forward to their signature pineapple bun, egg tart and French toast. Too many people have recommended them on the social media. Well, they don’t taste so good. The French toast is such a fail for me. Over oily and nothing else. And for the pineapple bun, it’s just okay, not impressive but edible. The egg tart is nothing special either. My advice: if you’re in the neighborhood and get curious about this place you can go for it, otherwise it doesn’t deserve a long ride.

The best pineapple bun in HK as others don't have the pineapple taste. The top is crispy while the bottom is fluffy soft. Egg tart and French toast taste good too. Famous for their yin yang and milk tea. The fried rice is fragrant but slightly oily. Service was fast and good

Definitely not a tourist friendly place, they don't seem to have English menus and the staff don't know English either. Food was really good however. Polo bun was nice and fluffy inside, and very fresh. The noodle soup paired well with the fried sausage, egg, and luncheon meat, a classic HK breakfast. The iced milk tea was great too.

I genuinely loved the food here. They serve really tasty noodles, toast and milk teas / yuan yang. The only downside would be the seating. I wish they could expand it or make the seating more comfortable and they really need to do something with the ceiling as it was leaking... Other than that, it's definitely very affordable here and you are getting really good quality local food.

So damn good! We ordered the custard tart, pineapple bun with the slab of butter inside, shredded pork with pickled veges and rice noodles soup, and egg sandwich. All delicious! Ordered iced coffee and tea, remember to get 1/2 sugar! It’s super sweet!

I’m an avid pineapple bun fan, but this one didn’t live up to the hype for me. It was very tasty, but i expected a bit more. Milk tea was nice as always.

Tasty traditional Hong Kong style cafe. I wanted to order their famous Pineapple bun with butter, but it's all sold out. So the staff recommended their French toast with butter. Even though I've already had dinner before I came to here, but it's so delicious so I still finish it within a blink. If you want to try their Pineapple bun, you have to come early.

Kam Wha is a cafe and bakery shop on Bute Street in Mongkok, very near to the Fa Yuen Street Market. Opening hours are 6.30am to 9pm daily. They have a typical small indoor seating area with tightly configured tables and serve low-cost local breakfasts and all day meals. You'll also find a shop front take-away counter where you can purchase local style bakery products. Recently had a coconut tart from Kam Wah Cafe that tasted as expected. Tart was slightly warm, sweet and a nice afternoon treat. Lots of places around the city to try local cafes and cake shops. Along Bute Street Kam Wah is as good as any, worth a try if this is the sort of thing you're looking for.

The signature polo bun was too sweet for my liking, the bun itself was springy, but not very soft. The egg tart was decent but nothing extraordinary. The French toast is better than many other places. The service from the waitress here was not very helpful compared to other places. Despite the empty seats, they didn't offer another table for us to sit more comfortably and instead crammed the three of us with another pair of customers at a table meant for four (very tightly). They were a bit rude compared to similar eateries, although we didn't expect exceptional service here. Overall, I wouldn't recommend wasting stomach space on this.

Chewy and fluffy bun with a crusty sweet sugary layer... this could be one of the best in Hong Kong. Top it off with a fragrant hot milk tea or cam, and you have one of the best breakfasts in this chilly weather. The French toast was good as well, eggy and soft but the egg tarts here is a pass...

Hong Kong Day 3 - after walking through Fa Yuen street market we stopped here for afternoon tea. Very busy and be prepared to share a table with someone you don't know if you want to try this place. Famous for there pineapple bun with butter inside, it is a treat to eat. Milk tea rating - 8 out of 10. The egg tarts are also good... Chicken wings are a bit dry but tasty.

The noodle is bouncy, not too oil, you cant get enough of it. Polo bun is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, blend really well with the butter. We came at 6pm so we didnt need to queue altho its packed inside.

This is a really nice cafe serving traditional pineapple buns and Hong Kong tea. Food was really nice and we had a great experience. It was packed with people which proves that quality is high. Staff were friendly and helpful. We definitely recommend it.

We reached around 10am on a weekday. Not crowded yet, we were able to get a table (for 4) to ourselves (only 2 of us), and don’t have to share table. Polo bun was very fluffy, but i would have preferred the butter to be slightly melted. Noodles was good, flavourful! They offer a breakfast set. Total price was reasonable :) many people ordered the toast and egg tart too

Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng or Greasy Spoon, known for it's Pineapple Buns. Also has all the standard Cha Chaan Teng foods you would expect.

Milk tea is to standard, 'nuf said, the pineapple butter bun is fresh as hell, french toast is superb. I loved this place so much that I went here at 6:30AM before my flight just to grab some buns and mik tea to go. I look forward to coming back.

The must-visit cafe in Mong Kok, especially for visitors to Hong Kong who want a taste of classic HK cafe food and drinks. Of course, the pineapple bun with butter (bō lòh yàuh) is their best seller. It's truly delicious. I come here when I want that truly local feeling of being in a lively, bustling Hong Kong. I suggest that you try the pineapple bun with butter, and if you like coffee, then get the mixed coffee + milk tea (yūn yēung). Really delicious. Staff are friendly, and even remembered me from my visit with family years ago. An English menu is available upon request.

Best Pineapple bun with butter in Hong Kong. The other food quality is 4 stars out of five. Drink is good. A place worth to go if you love pineapple bun.

Cafe shop right for general workers or low grade / uneducated people only , substandard quality of foods , No good or special foods offer , the foods and or beverage price / cost are normal and acceptable , table service is substandard as well . No good .

  • 5/5 Pauline 8 months ago on Google
One of the best pineapple buns you can get in HK! We also go their French toast and everything was spectacular. I would return to try their other classic sets for sure! I saw a group eating instant noodles and they look really yummy 😍 The aunties working there are very nice too, one of them was so proud of their bakery that she insisted I videoed and photographed as much as I liked 😅

The bolo bun was SUPERB. Baked fresh and served hot with a thick slab of butter, doesn’t feel dense, and goes so well with a cup of yuanyang. French toast and egg tarts was also great. we came here for breakfast around 10am and didn’t have to wait for a table. Great meal to start the day!

The pineapple bun is so much better than what I had 5 years ago! Crispy crust, soft bun and good amount of butter. Their beef stir fried noodles are my favourite in hk. We also tried the curry fried rice and it was ok, quite spicy. Don’t expect any service or a comfortable seating tho, welcome to Hong Kong!

Quintessential old Hong Kong cafe experience. Outstanding pineapple and coconut buns hot off the stove are the must try with a cup of milk tea. Also don't forget about the egg tarts. It's the breakfast of champions. The shared table and the rush service is part of the experience. Love it.

The breakfast has a lot of dishes from noodles to pastry. Everything we tried were all tasty and the price was so reasonable. We had been here 2 times for the brunch and it was always full of people. Bon appetit!!!

Quick, delicious, fast. Try their “stir fried noodle with premium soya sauce”. It was really good

  • 4/5 Don L. 9 months ago on Google
Fantastic Bolo bun which is enormous, fluffy and delicious together with the smooth butter. The French toast with butter was out of this world containing peanut paste inside which provides a combination of sweetness from the eggs and saltiness from the peanut and butter. We also had the fried noodles with chicken which was fried really well. The noodles were not dry as they have a sweet sauce covering all of it well but the chicken was slightly tough to chew. A good amount of scallions and onions complimented the noodles even better. The tomato sauce with pork chop rice was really delicious too. With a generous amount of tomatoes and sauce given which was covering 3/4 of the plate, every bite of the pork chop and rice left me wanting more. The tomato sauce was neither too sweet nor salty and the pork chop was tender too. Overall a really good cha chan teng with quick and friendly service but beware of the queue as it can get really long during peak timings and the chairs and floor might be not be that clean at all times.

We loved coming here for breakfast - the pork chop pineapple buns are so yummy! Baked fresh every day, probably the best pineapple bun we’ve eaten :) they also have the usual HK cafe suspects I also had an instant noodle (basic), and a curry fried rice (spicy!) and a HK French toast (not great imo) but the best breakfast item is the pineapple bun with pork chop. Also had it with char siu one morning but pork chop wins :) Just don’t mind the extremely basic service from the aunties, it’s a fast eat and go place.

Famous and indeed good on traditional Tea restaurants type bread and cakes, but bad service manners. Understandable on this type of old fashioned small restaurants, waitress have no patience and treats themselves rather than boss or customers at the first place.

Such a good experience from start to finish, welcomed in as tourists, the owner helping us through the menu and directed us to a fantastic traditional Hong Kong breakfast. Whether it was the pineapple bun, French toast or breakfast noodles it was fantastic and the owner was happy to take a photo with us. Most authentic feeling meal we had.

Highly recommend for the egg tart and bolo bun, even thou this place is usually packed but I guess the food is worth to go. Depending on luck ya, sometimes the staff can be quite a little nasty. But afterall worth the calories 😄

  • 5/5 Munchie D. 11 months ago on Google
Crowded but we managed to get a table after 5-10 mins of waiting. Yummy polo bun!! Fried rice was okay. We also tried the instant curry noodle with pork and cheese, it was amazing. Service was really quick. Good price! Will come back 😋

  • 3/5 Hui Juan S. 11 months ago on Google
Egg tart was fragrant and smooth, the polo bun was nice with hint of orange/lemon peel taste? Quite unique and different from other polo bun I tried. Can probably skip the French toast, too oily in my opinion. Milk tea was good and iced lemon tea was refreshing on a hot day.

  • 3/5 Josiah B. 11 months ago on Google
Nice breakfast spot with pretty tasty food. Staff is a bit rude though. As a tourist, I can’t speak Cantonese and my mandarin is horrible. But the staff was so impatient and rude when telling me that I have to choose the type of noodle I wanted. Having said that, it’s quite interesting that they’ll sit you at any occupied table that has space if it’s crowded so you’ll end up dining with strangers. Worth a shot to try the food here!

  • 2/5 Boon Sun T. 1 year ago on Google
Expensive and the food standard has dropped. Having stay in Hong Kong, the polo bun with butter is not even among the top 5. The milk tea was simply too sweet

  • 4/5 Chloe K. 1 year ago on Google
Highly recommend the French toast Thoroughly fried with peanut butter in the middle, eat it with the syrup and it's so sinfully good! I like their egg tarts and instant noodles as well :)

  • 5/5 Paul L. 1 year ago on Google
I was skeptical about trying the bolo bun here as some of the other 'recommended' cafes had already disappointed me. Thankfully, I did! The bolo bun here was close to perfect for me! The coating was crispy yet did not break apart even when I took a bite. And it wasn't too sweet at all (some might find it not sweet enough). The bun was soft, yet chewy, while many of the others I've tried tended to be a bit too dense. And finally, the Alice of butter was satisfying and was the 'ucing on the cake'. If you are a bolo enthusiast, give this a try!

Conveniently located at Prince Edward. Be expected to share the table (卡位 which is tight in space) with other diners during peak hours since the covid restrictions have loosened. The Mexico bun with butter (墨西哥油) is our usual order besides the famous pineapple bun 😏

  • 3/5 Adam K. 1 year ago on Google
Their pineapple buns have really gone down hill. They are served at room temperature which really takes away the melty experience when eating it with butter. I did however like the cheesy curry pork chop over instant ramen lo mein, would recommend this instead!

  • 5/5 Wai C. 1 year ago on Google
Their services had drastically improved probably business is bleak as the city is just opened for tourism. Their pineapple bun is really good, crispy top and soft bun. The pineapple crust is not too sweet. Definitely must try. Breakfast set is good. The satay beef instant noodles is awesome. I always come back whenever I’m around this area

  • 3/5 Kevin K. 1 year ago on Google
A bit disappointed . Kam wah used to be a lot better but it became touristy and then standards dropped Came back again after a few years but still not great Ordered the takeaway bolo yau (the one with a slab of butter in the bolo bao). The size of the bun is good but texture is soso and also it’s very cold so it’s been made for sometime already

Good, had pineapple bun with butter and a cold lemon drink.
