This place was highly over rated in my opinion. The ambience was grand, however to pay over AU$260 per head for the chefs menu was not worth it. Perhaps the ala cart would have been a better choice? The portions were small, the wait in between dishes was long, the service was horrible - none of the servers made eye contact or came to check on us. Our dessert was forgotten and we waited for 40 minutes thinking it was going to come. We had to remind the waiter and he apologised and dessert came shortly after but it was nothing special. When it came to paying, the host didn’t even asked how our experience was so we left a feedback card with the hotel instead. We left hungry and really disappointed as we thought this was a highlight of our trip to Hong Kong. Not a great experience and I do not recommend this place.

It was rather disappointing , place half empty none of the waiter spoke any english at all anymore ; the food take awful long to come out, half the order came late the rest later. as an experience it lost its appeal and the food is somehow not up to the taste and standard it used to be. Most annoying at 2 pm they turn the aircon off it’s getting too hot to stay and their buffet dim sum closes at 14:30 pm that’s absolutely mean!I think need to look for an alternative for my next shenzen visit

Having tried Summer Palace and Hung Tang (Red Sugar), both highend Chinese restaurants from the Shangri-la chain, we decided to try Shang Palace. Decor was along the classic lines of Summer Palace but smaller and less interestingly shapped windowless rectangle. Service was courteous and attentive. Food was on par with other two, tasty, good quality and nicely presented, but led down badly by one dish, the pan fried dumplings. Filling was dry and tasteless, dough skin thick and chewy. It would not be acceptable in lesser restaurants let alone a Michelin starred one. The Yinyang pudding was tasty and interestingly presented. Price was nearly eye watering commensurate with its Michelin status rather than with the food.

Shang Palace was my last meal in HK before heading home. The decor is dated and frozen in time. It is typically Chinese design and even the lightings evinced an old HK charm. It sure can do be with a makeover. But the customer service is truly par excellent. The staffs made an extra effort to please and are attentive to our needs. Every dish is a delight. We had dim sum. The usual rice roll with char siew. Every bite is a savory delight. The appetizer is the peppery roasted cashew nuts. It is awesome. We also had the carrot cake fried in XO sauce. The Char Siew Chan Bao, Fried Pork Dumpling and for dessert, I had the red bean paste infused with orange peel. The food quality is amazing. The carrot cake is fried just right. There is a house specialty whereby there is an edible fried leaf. Overall it is an enjoyable experience. I will definitely make a return visit.

Definitely need to try the famous fried rice; will not be disappointed. However please do not mind the service standard here at the time when there is an outbreak with less attentive altitude. The walnut sweet desert would be better if it was not watery.

Having returned from overseas living in a lapse of few years, we re-visited this restaurant again for family re-union. The staff were friendly and attentive provided excellent service as they did previously. The food standard was however a bit on the down side. The peking duck was a little dry. The sea whelk was stuffed with too much sauce. The dim sum dishes in general were delicious. However, the beef balls were hard and bouncy. Texture liked fish balls that I would not consider as good. The lau sha buns were not runny. They were just ordinary custard Buns. Not impressive. We were disappointed. With the price paid, we would consider exploring some other options.
