One of the worst Michelin experiences in a long while. I do not write google reviews very often, so it is also in a way telling that I am consciously making an effort here to leave a non-anonymous bad review on an otherwise very highly rated restaurant. I have had multiple dining experience with Bo when it was a one star Michelin in Wanchai. All the times I have dined were of great quality and experience. However, today, as I took my parents to celebrate my father’s birthday and family gathering, it was quite a disaster. 1- the venue was COLD. We took off our outdoor coats and were freezing. The room was under cold AC when the outdoor temperature was 10 degrees. My husband left feeling week and having a cold, and we ended up going to the hospital for medicines. 2- food was SLOW. I am not talking about normal Michelin restaurant slow. In between our first appetizer and the second appetizer, we waited almost an hour. My father was constantly saying he is quite hungry, which was fair because he barely had 5 proper bites (actual mouthful bites) 2 hours in the meal, around 9.30pm. 3- food was COLD. Probably a combination of the above two factors. Not a single dish was hot. Of course not that we are expecting cold dishes to be hot, but it is telling when the main course wagyu is cold, you know things are off. 4- the wine selection pairing was a total rip off. There were five glasses, which we almost were left being served only four, if we did not check and ask. Two of them were Bo branded bottles. The pours are on average not so generous. Costed us 1500HKD for the meager, non premium pairing. 5- the concept is interesting but execution fairly much destroyed the whole experience. Michelin is all about a holistic experience, and we left the restaurant feeling cold, hungry, and not exactly inspired. While we applaud the efforts of trying to link food to masterpieces, and recognize some dishes were technically hard to execute, we left with our taste buds not exactly impressed. 6- Attention to detail lacking. My husband asked for dessert to be presented with words of “Happy family”, which ended to be “Happy birthday family”. It was not too bad as coincidentally , my father is having a birthday soon, but this says something about attention to details. Overall, very underwhelmed with this supposedly two star experience. Heard there was a mess in the kitchen, where we also saw the Demon chef just chill with his friends outside, having a drink at one of the tables. Missed the one star Bo Innovation…

The creativity is incredible but the food is not tasty. It’s wayyyy to salty beyond any other flavors you can taste. Here are the pics of $1300 dining experience that you can imagine. Tried several 3 michelin starred restaurants and my votes aren’t for this place. Come back? No. Recommend to others? No.

A unique Hong Kong dining experience to the finest details. The journey starts from the moment when you enter the dining room with murals, art pieces, lightings and memorabilia depicting the story of Hong Kong. The lighting outlines the silhouette of the Lion Rock while the kitchen table reassemble a traditional sampan at Aberdeen. The Menu is thematic and are always rooted in a Hong Kong Story. Local flavours and ingredients are often celebrated while completed with contemporary cooking techniques and global influences. The dining wears and table settings all form part of the story. Food is well executed and there's always an element of playfulness. I strongly recommend the wine pairing option as they serve aged wines from boutique wineries that are exceptional. Service, as one would expect, is friendly and with every attention to details. They do not merely act as waitstaff but are storytellers who complete the whole dining experience. This is one of my best dining experience. Be attentive and receptive, and one will come to appreciate the immense thoughts and efforts that have been invested in your meal. This truly is beyond a meal, but a masterpiece, a symphony, a Shakespearean dining experience.

Starts strong with a medley of appetizers based on the theme of a Chinese wedding but fades a bit with some not-so-memorable desserts. Very skilled on the lighter and more elegant elements of the multi course meal, less so on the haute cuisine type offerings. The micro Xiao long bao is worth the supplement.

[Hong Kong Edition] This 2 Michelin Star in Hong Kong is full of surprises for you to enjoy a good interesting dinner with a loved one. Molecular Gastronomy at its finest and that's why Chef Alvin is one of the best in this field. Not going to discuss too much of the dishes and you should really come and experience it yourself! How he brings local flavors to the international stage!

A must try place if you love Hong Kong! The menu is composed of a list of names of famous paintings. Each and every dish is not only innovative and creative, but also tasteful and delicious! What a wonderful way to revisit Hong Kong dishes !

There are many good restaurants in Hk so it’s like a paradise for foodies. This restaurant is michelin 3 starred restaurant with extreme chinese cuisine. It’s so unique. Food presentation & service & food & ambiance everything is just perfect. They will give you very new experience. Price is not cheap but you won’t regret at all. Highly recommended. Difficult to make reservation!

Great molecular chef innovative creative Hongkee cuisine It’s native Hongkee cuisine not just Chinese cuisine It’s a weird uncertain creative speculative experience A dinner that you know you won’t repeat A restaurant you know you won’t go back for the same menu The food quality is great, the molecular chef skill is immense, the innovative is super creative The service is attentive but lack of passion or too robotic The location does not match the price but well match the cuisine theme

Really outstanding cooking. It's our first experience of molecular gastronomy and we were truly impressed. All the dishes were linked by a theme yet you can never expect how each dish will come out. Also, you'd certainly love this place and find connection if you grow up in here in Hong Kong. You can find small details from the flavours or restaurant design that speaks of quintessential Hong Kong. Would love to come back again.

Bo Innovation is a unique and engaging dining experience. When the waiter delivers each dish to the table, he tells a story about each dish’s significance to Hong Kong culture and history. The food is awesome and the plating is fun and playful. It’s a great place to celebrate your next milestone - birthday, anniversary, job promotion, etc. They also offer wine pairings, but we chose to order off the cocktail menu which was the only disappointment of the night. The cocktails lacked creativity, didn’t have a “WOW” factor and were very expensive. I’d recommend skipping the drinks.

A story of HK, the meal was delicious in general but ingredients weren’t the top for a 3 stars. The concept is what makes this restaurant standout from the crowd. Environment was definitely an excellent example for casual dining. The name of each course was special and of course the staffs were very attentive to us. Which was another plus! Loved their starters!

I visited during festival, so I could only taste the most luxurious CHEF TABLE MENU. The location of the restaurant isn't very conspicuous. And the decorations aren't also sumptuous. So the best part of it is their food!!!!! It's the most special one that I've been tasted. It's also my first time to eat "Chinese Molecular Cuisine". Each dish is stunning and delicate. I would really like to visit again.

I think Alvin really take the extra mile to do his homework before coming up with a menu like this. Everything is very Hong Kong. The food to the design , the interior and down to the table you’re sitting at. Even the plates are locally made, some wooden decorations are from the old demolished Queens Pier in central, every detail was carefully orchestrated. I think he tried to source as many local items as possible. Originally we worried it might be a tourist trap, you know, with all the star and everything, but it turned out to be a happy experience. Even me, a local, is impressed. Recommended. Will come again.

To be honest, I didn't think much of it when I visited 4 years ago. I just went again today and it was SUPERB. I haven't had something this good in a long, long time. The entrance is actually on Ship Street. Take a look at all the food pictures. The menu changes every month. They use quality ingredients! The servers were super nice and knowledgeable. They explained all dishes and how they were made. Impressive.

The food was mostly excellent. The only dish that didn't quite work for me was the fish roe "Jackson Pollock", which was more thematic than it was tasty. Probably not worth ordering the wine pairing - for the price the wines are not outstanding, and they don't seem to have a dedicated somellier to introduce them. They should probably also consider turning down the AC a bit - I was certainly very glad that I was wearing a jacket.

This is a Michelin Star Chinese Molecular/Fusion Gastronomy experience that takes 3 hours to fully enjoy the creation of Alvin Leung. There are a few set menus to choose from and we selected the "Old Hong Kong" theme. Every dish was superbly prepared to simulate a particular taste or texture of some old Hong Kong street food or famous local chinese cuisine like Dim Sum, dumplings, curry fish balls. The waiters would explain the ingredient and where and how that particular dish was inspired and prepared. Some of the dishes were prepared in front of us using what vendors used to do in the old days. A few times I had to explain to my daughter (post 1990) who had never experience the old Hong Kong and were very much intrigued. It's a feast down the memory lane and a very good bridge to generation gaps to take about the good old days. For those who like to drink a bit during dinner, they have a very extensive selection of Champagne and wine. And to top it up, there's a balcony that you can take a smoke break with an outlook onto the street where you see one of the oldest transportation system in HK, the Tram and one of the oldest building where they transformed an old Pawn shop into an other fancy restauraunt. All in all, the waiters there are very attentive and friendly. Food is excellent.

It's been a few years since we last visited Hong Kong. We knew we had to come back, and we were not disappointed. Brand new menu, with creative takes on each theme for every item on the menu. This is a restaurant that lives up to its name. But not just innovation, each course was also delicious! Glad we made this our first dinner on our trip.

I've had the honor of trying many Michelin restaurants in the past and Bo is by far my favorite. I would have to say I enjoy Bo even more than my experience at French Laundry but they are very different. What I love most about Bo is the experience and the wonderful story telling with each dish. Every single dish is well thought out and an important piece of hong kong culture in it. They take simple yet high quality ingredients and transforms them into a delicious gastronomical experience. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Keith and the team. We had a company team celebration at Bo Innovation for lunch and it was truly amazing. The dishes never fail to surprise us from the simple Dandan noodles to the Wagyu beef and black truffles rice noodle rolls. Despite we are a large group (>10 ppl) Keith and his team tried their best to accommodate our requests in order to host us with the best experiences. Would definitely paying visits in another time for personal or even more team celebrations.

Honestly, the quality of food itself was average. However, it was a very unique experience dining here. The best way to describe the food is that the dishes were contemplative and evoked conversations. I enjoyed the stories and little snippets that came before each dish, as well as hearing from our server of the night more about the decor of the restaurant. The food itself was average, presentation instaworthy, and perhaps the reason for the Michelin star was considering everything else.

This wasn’t my first time having dinner at Bo Innovation and it won’t be my last time :) Bo Innovation has been well known for it’s molecular gastronomy and I feel like they are shifting away from it. I’m not saying that food isn’t great, in fact it is still great, but it didnt wow like it used to be (days back in Central). Anyway its great food with great atmosphere overall!

A tasting menu that really stands out. Everything works harmoniously. It’s easy to feel how much thought is poured into each and every detail to craft such a cohesive and fun dining experience. Excellently executed dishes, beautiful tableware. Setting and theatrics really complement the Masterpiece menu, and reflects chef Alvin’s personal touch and culinary genius. So much better than their last location, if that deterred you, give them a chance and be wowed. Masterpiece menu. 2000pp The only dish that was a miss for me was the pollock pollock. Wine pairing also was a miss and priced too high at 1480pp for 5 glasses. Great for: dates, families, bring your parents, even your non foodie friends will enjoy this

《Two-Michelin-starred innovation》 A two-Michelin-starred restaurant brand, Bo Innovation, where an innovative and “X-treme” fusion of Chinese and Western fine dining is crafted by the “Demon Chef”, Alvin Leung. The space is spacious, featuring an open kitchen, and artworks displaying Hong Kong cultural elements 🇭🇰 at different corners of the dining room - an ode to the city - all carefully selected by Chef Alvin. A $680pp lunch menu is a brief display of their creativity, but already a whole new gastronomy journey that was enough to leave us mesmerised. From amuse-bouche to dessert, each dish presents a bold blend of ingredients from the East and the West - some things you’ve never thought of going so well together. Plating is meticulous as well. Truly a culinary innovation at its finest. 〔 Follow me on instagram @sikbaobaola ! ^^ 〕

I like how traditional Chinese food was reinterpreted in their cooking. From reframing the humble canned dace fish as a fine dish, to deconstructing the classical chicken rice we grew up with. They also credited the bottled condiments and liquor products used for each dish. Kudos~ Service however was not as attentive as what I’d have expected. These guys missed one of the dishes on our tasting menu and we had to point it out.

Bo Innovation has not only earned three stars but it is fair to say that it's chefs creations are really mind blowing! The combination of traditional Hong Kong dishes and tastes with molecular cuisine, perfect French cooking and impressive presentation makes this restaurant a must visit for any gourmet on the planet! Also the wine pairing was perfect and the sommeleuse did a wonderful job on explaining the combinations and wines. Service was excellent and also the none bread policy made us only appreciate the flavors more! Deifntively one of the best restaurants on earth!

(4 1/2)Pretty different to what we are used to, but it was a truly interesting experience and I would highly recommend it. The scallop ceviche started the lunch with some of the most amazing layers of flavor and interesting textures, and the foie gras was pretty special (a complex dish which makes me want to classify it as a "sweet and savory breakfast dessert"). I would add 1 more dish and expand the beef dish a bit, otherwise I can recommend! [edit - increased to 5 stars because they deserved it, now I have a bit more experience with Michelin standards I know what to compare it to :P )

We went here without reservation at lunch time to have the tasting menu. From start to finish it was an incredible experience and each dish got well introduced and explained. The food hits a sensitive spot if you know and love Cantonese food already and know it’s history. We enjoyed it a lot and were taken by surprise a number of times. I believe Hong Kongers can have the most fun with their creations. I am not sure if tourists would appreciate it the same way. But nevertheless this is a must to try!

  • 4/5 Alfred L. 4 years ago on Google
Well the dishes are interesting. Some are much more successful than others. I don't know how tourists would view this cuisine but even if you don't have the culinary knowledge of Hong Kong dishes I am sure most dishes are interesting. But for Hong Kong people it would be more delightful because one can compare them with the original dishes or snacks. Apart from the dishes on the set menu, they have supplemented it with many small interesting dishes too. The opening dishes were wonderful. Some later dishes frankly went downhill but rescued by the final rice fish. At 2,400 it would still be an interesting experience if you haven't tried it before.

Excellent service. Tres expensive. Exquisite cuisine which consisted of seven courses with a combination of Chinese and Continental. Each dish was described in complete details. Fresh and delightful to the palate. Small portions decorated with a flair. Decor was mediocre. They had some fancy crockery dated way back with beautiful hand painted children of different ages which was only for display. Each dish was artistically put together with a rustic touch and an essence of the culture of Hong kong. It is definitely innovative and a must visit place for a celebration or a cosy lunch or dinner for two. Much to see, flavour and appreciate.
