Fascinating history in contrast to the peaceful retreat in the middle of a bustling city. What was once the world's most densely populated area of ramshackled buildings, practically leaning into each other for support, is now an amazing place to find artistic inspiration and quiet reflection or retrospect.

One of the most beautiful garden I’ve seen in Asia. Almost no tourist, lots of locals relaxing or practicing Tai Chi, enough public toilets. A little bonsai collection, statues of the Chinese zodiac, enough shelter if it rains. Gorgeous, relaxing and inspiring. Totally worth the walk.

Kowloon Walled City Park, built on the site of a former ancient fortress, is a serene escape in the heart of urban Hong Kong. Here's your guide for a meaningful visit: Historical Insight: Explore the remnants of the old city walls and immerse yourself in the rich history of this site, which dates back to the Song Dynasty. Garden Stroll: Wander through beautifully landscaped gardens, featuring traditional Chinese architecture, ponds, and lush greenery. Photo Opportunities: Capture the intricate details of the historic buildings and bridges. The architecture provides a fascinating backdrop for photography. Cultural Exhibits: Visit the museum within the park to learn about the area's history and its transformation into a peaceful garden. Quiet Contemplation: Find tranquility at the Yamen, a reconstructed magistrate's office. Reflect on the park's transformation from a once densely populated enclave to a place of serenity. Picnic Spot: Pack a picnic and enjoy a meal amidst the peaceful ambiance. Benches and shaded areas are available. Visit Timing: Go in the morning or late afternoon for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Nice garden with heritages and remain of the Kowloon Walled City, very Chinese garden. Not much children facilities but we had a great time with the kids. Many nice spots for photography. Also a couple spacious area for children to play. A big fish/turtle pond there too. There is a zodiac sign park with the Chinese zodiac signs.

Such a lovely garden/park, although it of course have origins as the Kowloon Walled City, it doesn’t rely on that and presents as a lovely park on its own. The park has some gorgeous eastern architecture, and a lot of good information on various bits of history including the walled city. Some warning if you around the time I’m writing, the top of the park is currently across the road from a construction site so around that area there’s a lot of construction noise. At the bottom of the park, less construction noise but the birds are very noisy and will squawk at you if you interrupt them eating by, god forbid, walking passed them. They’re cute. Very easy walk from either close MTR station, there’s also a nice park next door if you feel like more walking around. Took me about an hour to appreciate all the park had to offer.

Kowloon Walled City: a lawless zone lasted over a century until the dawn of the 21st century. The historical site now turns into a park. Great for kids riding in the bicycles lane.

This park was built on the old Kowloon City site. Kowloon City was a little slice of China within Hong Kong. What this effectively meant was the City, you can read information about this site in the park which is well worth doing, was not subject to Hong Kong law. Kowloon City was demolished and the 33 acre park opened in 1970 instead. There are reminders of the old city all around the park. The many walkways are lined with roof tiles from the City as well as white walls and tiled floors. Now flowers, greenery and ponds grow and flow where city streets used to run. If you want to see the old city then the original remains of the city gate can still be seen as can some of the historic buildings from the old city that now hold information on the city.

Such a gem in the city! I went there with my partner in the morning, and it’s easy to get there either by bus or MTR. When we arrived, we saw many people doing tai chi there. Also there’re primary students having their excursions with the staffs touring them. It’s free for groups just you have book in advance. We slowly toured the park ourselves, read the illustrations and understood the history of Kowloon City. Everywhere was so quiet, clean, nicely kept and the staffs were friendly too. We enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this park to everyone!

Kowloon Walled City Park - 九龍寨城公園 ⛩ - 1920s - intense density, high, full of illegal dentists, gambling & drugs 💉 🦷🎲 - owned by China & Britain 🇨🇳🇬🇧 - Britain demanded sole ownership - China protested - the city become an ungoverned state - neglected & abandoned🏚 - 1990s - demolished - now a beautiful park with a dark history. Definitely worth your visit.

In all the years I have lived in Hong Kong, I had never taken the time to explore this beautiful park over in Kowloon City. Whilst there are many articles and stories written about the history of the Kowloon Walled City, going to the park helps you take that history in just a little bit more. There are multiple entry points and signs are clear and easy to find. You can easily spend a few hours here walking around learning something about the history of Hong Kong. Recommended.

Kowloon Walled City Park is a captivating oasis nestled in the heart of Hong Kong, seamlessly blending rich history with serene greenery. Steeped in a tumultuous past, this park stands as a testament to urban transformation. Once a dense, chaotic settlement, the remnants of Kowloon Walled City have been meticulously preserved, creating a unique historical ambiance. Walking through the park, you'll find ancient walls, traditional Chinese gardens, and tranquil ponds that offer a stark contrast to the bustling cityscape just beyond its borders. The historical significance is palpable as you explore the well-preserved South Gate and remnants of the Walled City's original architecture. The landscaping is impeccable, showcasing the beauty of classical Chinese garden design. The harmony of pavilions, bridges, and meticulously manicured plants creates a sense of peaceful escape. Visitors can engage in leisurely strolls, appreciating the architectural nuances and absorbing the cultural resonance. The park successfully strikes a delicate balance between preserving its gritty past and embracing a serene present. It serves as both a reminder of the city's resilience and an escape for locals and tourists alike. Kowloon Walled City Park is not merely a green space; it's a living testament to the transformative power of conservation, making it a must-visit for those seeking a tranquil retreat with a touch of historical intrigue.

Interesting history and peaceful place to visit. The backstory is fascinating, there is an exhibit to walk through with pictures and interactive items. The park is clean, well maintained and a pleasant place to walk around for half an hour. On Sunday afternoon many people had set up blankets and large picnics to spend the morning. Also a popular setting for TikTok choreographed dance videos. Toilets are clean, bus access is convenient.

The park is beautifully done and is very pleasant to walk around. This park exhibits the preserved artefacts from the walled city which represents an important and unique part of Hong Kong history. It is definitely worth going. Kowloon City also has a lot to offer, we spent a good day there all together!

Want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city? Then Kowloon Walled City Park is for you. This is a great place to relax and reflect and do your morning walk, jog, yoga, or exercise. And the great thing is, there is no entrance fee!

The difference between the Kowloon Park and Kowloon WALLED park is so distinct. I was thinking it will just be the same. The amount of history in each attraction inside the park makes so much difference. From the piece of the original kowloon wall, the structures, and much more. They also have free guided tours but I didn’t get a chance to join.

A lovely, peaceful green space in amongst the madness. The park contains a cycling track that looks great for kids, or adults gaining confidence. Inside the walls is a section that lays out the fascinating history of the walled city that once stood in the space place. Definitely worth a visit, if only for a quick break.

The park was converted from a notorious “walled city” within a city. This was a special zone where it was not officially ruled by the Hong Kong government but the late Qing dynasty. It was very special in the colonial history & was torn down after signing the Sino-British agreement on Hong Kong. With restoration according to an ancient southern China buildings & parks, the new park has been very scenic. The Qing county officer building has been restored to show its historical glory.

In the past, the walled city was a Sanshui area covered with many unplanned buildings, and the inner streets inside were almost out of sight, so Ye'an was not very good either. This is a great place to learn about the history of the Kowloon Walled City. It's hard to imagine that at some point 50,000 or more people lived in such a small area. I think the proprietors of the park did a good job at attempting to educate visitors on the historical and cultural nuance of the Walled City.
