Dr Sun Yat Sen Museum is a small museum on Castle Road, Mid-Levels that pays homage to the man regarded as the father of modern China. It is housed in a century-old historic building - Kom Tong Hall - named after the person who built it Ho Kom-tong. There are a number of exhibits, but nothing that really stands out and it’s annoying that photography isn’t allowed in the exhibition halls. Still, entry is free and this is a good place to get acquainted with Chinese history and Sun Yat Sen’s political life.

Dr Sun Yat-sen actually never lived in this house, it's only a big house that belonged to one of the wealthiest families in Hong Kong about a hundred years ago. They're full of copies about Dr Sun, including photos, documents, statements his living stuff, etc. The only thing that is not bad, it is free of charge for visitors. Suppose you have nothing to do on weekends with your family, friends even alone. It's still good to walk into this house when you pass by the mid-level. Just take it as a city walk, don't expect too much.

The Dr. Sun Yat Sen Museum (free entry) is located on Castle Road at the top of the steep Aberdeen Street. The museum is housed in the restored Kom Tong Hall, a four-storey Declared Monument. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm daily (closed on Thursday) Architecturally, this is a nice building to view. It was constructed in 1914 and is Neo-classical with red brick walls. The interior offers hints of Baroque and Rococo which you will see throughout. Do enjoy the grand staircase. It is particularly impressive. The museum includes three floors of exhibition space detailing the life of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who spent much time here Hong Kong. You will learn about his early life and introduction to politics, his revolution against the Qing Dynasty and founding of the Republic of China. For this, Dr. Sun Yet Sen goes down in history as the Father of the Republic of China. The exhibition includes artefacts, audiovisual programming and general information. It feels rather detailed at times but you can go through galleries at your own pace. As such, this is a place you could spend half an hour if you've limited time or perhaps a couple of hours if you are particularly interested in this historically important figure in this region of the world. Note: There is a statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen in the courtyard outside the Kom Tung Hall mansion. It is worth a quick look-see before or after visiting the museum.

It's a great place to visit. The building itself shows great architecture. You can see from both exterior and from the rooms and balcony. The tiles, the wood and stones were very beautifully designed and now well maintained of. A bonus to visit is that it is free for entry. For long time it has been dedicated to showcase Dr Sun Yat-sen's history and exhibits. Staff there were very kind and helpful. The staircase, the main room and the balcony are the highlights in my opinion. One thing to note is photography is not allowed inside the exhibition rooms showcasing Dr Sun's exhibits.

Mixed experience, it was not much information that you can get compares to the internet search. The building itself is worth more that the anything else. 5 star to the building, two star to the museum.

During my recent visit to Hong Kong, I had the opportunity to explore the Sun Yat-sen Museum, a beautifully restored mansion that pays homage to the remarkable life and achievements of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China. Nestled in a serene corner of the city, the museum showcases the historic Sun Yat-sen family mansion, offering visitors a thoughtfully curated journey into Dr. Sun's influential political career and his enduring legacy. I was immediately captivated by the grandeur and elegance of the restored mansion. The intricate woodwork, ornate decorations, and architectural details transported me back in time, helping me visualize the opulence of the era when Sun Yat-sen inhabited the premises. The museum has done an excellent job of preserving the authenticity and historical significance of the building, allowing visitors to step into the past. The exhibits within the museum provided a comprehensive overview of Dr. Sun's influential contributions and the revolution he spearheaded to bring about change in China. Engaging displays, informative panels, and multimedia presentations brought his story to life and gave me a deeper understanding of his struggles, ideals, and vision. One of the most impressive aspects of the museum was the collection of personal artifacts belonging to Dr. Sun Yat-sen. From his writings to his clothing, the meticulous preservation and presentation of these items offered a personal connection to the man himself, truly making history come alive.

Must go to know more about Dr Sun's historic trial. The building (Kom Tong Hall) itself is a magnificent legacy.

It’s a beautiful building and entry is free, but its not very detailed or special. I got it recommended as a key sight to visit in HK but would not recommend it to a tourist. The staff is very warm though :)

Cool museum that commemorates the life of Dr Sun Yat Sen, sprinkled with some Hong Kong history. Ok number of artifacts and some showrooms, but they could have done much more to make you feel like you’re stepping in a bygone era. Transport you into another younger Hong Kong. Instead, everything was displayed in glass cases. Preservation is good, but rather boring.

This place sits at the mid-level but is easy to find - you just need to follow the signs 😄 What it exhibits covers the life of Dr Sun Yat Sen. It can take you 2-3 hours to go through the materials. I think it is worth a visit.

It’s free entrance, the staff very kind and helpful. They try to explain the history of the building even tho I’m not asking it, the building is so heritage, they tell the story of Dr Sun Yat-Sen very clear, I love everything inside. But tbh, they don’t allow to take pictures guys😊

Quaint little museum that curated the life of Sun Yatsen while giving a glimpse of nineteenth-century HK and republican revolution. Well maintained, clean, chill staff, plenty of exhibits and a few videos. Can finish entire exhibition in 60-75 minutes, or even shorter if in a hurry. Location a bit out of the way, but can take bus, minibus, or mid-levels escalator. An interesting take on HK history and a hidden gem! And it’s FREE ENTRY!

We can't take photos or record videos inside of the exhibition. But outside of the exhibition room, we can take some photos of the museum.

A good place to visit and understand the history and story about HK and Mr. Sun. Staff are very nice and willing to share the history about the building and the story behind. Admission: Free of charge

Is more about the original owner than about Dr. Sun. The building , formerly, was the HK main branch of the Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. For those who had been there back then, the building will bring back memory.

I love here. You will learn about Dr. Sun Yat Sen. You cannot take any photo inside. Only window and stairs are allowed.

This museum gives a great overview of Sun Yat-sen's life. The house the museum is in has neat history too. You can take a walk around the neighborhood to see where many of the places he frequented are as well.

Free admission to this delightful 'hidden gem' in Midlevels, originally the playground and living quarters of Hong Kong's wealthy business elite. The museum is actually two museums: one dedicated to the fascinating life of Dr Sun Yat Sen (孫中山) that spanned 3 continents, and one dedicated to Kom Tong Hall, the building in which the museum is housed. A great way to spend a few hours immersing yourself in some bona fide Hong Kong history!

A very beautiful historical building revitalized into a museum with descriptions and exhibits of Dr Sun Yat-sen. The building itself was a house of a rich people, and later sold to a church, you can even see the "bath tub" for the baptist of the followers in it. The exhibits are very interesting, you can find the score card and exam paper of Dr Sun while he was studying, and the videos are also interesting and you can know the history of Dr Sun Yat-sen in a very lively way. Don't forget the library if want to dig in more, the books in there are real interesting record of Dr Sun Yat-sen.
