Omg! I went on many many hikes all over the world. This Sunset Peak Hike is one you should NOT miss when in Hong Kong. Amazing. We took a taxi to the bottom of the trail and then literally ran up to make it in time for sunset. Got to the top above the clouds right on time. It was magical! Make sure to bring a flashlight or a charged cell phone so u have a light in the dark on the way back down.

Best to take bus to Pak Kung Au and start the trail from there. You need to tell your bus driver in advance to stop there otherwise they'll overshoot and won't be able to pull over til the next stop (we had to hike an extra 2km up the road, lesson learned). The hike is moderately high difficulty, at some points if feels like you're going vertical for really long stretches. You'll reach a point where there isn't much signage and there are multiple ways to reach the peak depending on if it's dry or muddy. The view is well worth it. We didn't catch the sunset at the peak unfortunately, since we didn't have head torches to brave a downhill hike in the dark on the way back. Going up took about 2 hrs while going down was much faster.

Stunning views from start of the trail to the top. I'm so happy that I've experienced to climb this one of the most beautiful mountain in Hong Kong.

Easily accessible, you could just take any bus from Tung Chung Bus Terminal and get off to the entrance point. Be ready for many stairs to climb up all the way.

Went in December which was the best timing for hiking as well as the field of silvergrass. The walk was not difficult as long as the 2 hr of stairs is prepared. Spare about 2hr to walk from Pak Kung Au and better to go with a torch for the way going downhill after seeing the amazing sunset.

The hike is quite nice. A lot of stairs to go to the peak, but it the view is quite beautiful. Even though it's cooler in December, the cooler weather brings all the smog from mainland China over.

The sunset here with Lantau twin peaks in the view is the best you can get in HK.
