Average meal and felt cheated at bill time. In love with middle eastern cuisine so decided to try Francis. Went quite late on a Sunday for brunch. Very surprised when you read the menu for the brunch at 320 HKD and discovered that it’s the Chef who will decide which mezze you will eat. One question : why then put 9 mezze if the chef chooses 3? Also the ones we were going to have was hummus, Halloumi and cigars. Only one of those we wanted so we had no choice but go a la carte. Ordered : - hummus : fine but felt diluted, more liquid than we like it. Portion fair but remember it’s 90 hkd for a hummus… - falafels : 4 pieces with a bit of hummus, nice, same thing 22,5 hkd for one falafel and not that big, - burnt eggplant : not amazing, average and quite small portion for 90 hkd, - baby calamari : nice and generous in size but remember it’s 150 for this mezze… For main we had the sea bass at 260 hkd which was pleasant and the cauliflower which was nice also. Nothing I will go back for but nice. For drinks we had one glass of white wine and a lime and soda. The Bill was over 1 100 HKD which we found already very pricey but wait for the worse bit.. They brought the credit card machine and the first thing you can see is what pourcentage of a tip the customer would like to leave. We selected 10pct because that’s the way tip works not because the service was great. Then we have a look at the bill and discovered that actually Francis already added 10pct service charge. We felt cheated. If the restaurant adds a discretionary 10pct service charge, the first thing you see on the credit card machin should not be more tip especially as the waiter didn’t say anything beforehand. So to summarize, from a bill of 1010 hkd we ended up paying 1222 that’s 21pct of tip. Not happy and not appreciated as a way to treat your customers. After the meal, I wanted to put 3⭐️as it was an average meal and with the 21pct service charge for which we were pressured to, it will be a 2 ⭐️.

FRANCIS is a tiny bistro located in the heart of Wan Chai that focuses on the flavours and ingredients of the Middle East. While the restaurant's decor is not traditionally Middle Eastern, it exudes a cozy, welcoming atmosphere with its bar seats and less than 10 tables. For weekend brunch, I had the Beef Short Rib with yogurt, cucumber, dill, and tomato, and the Smoked Carrots with almond and spiced honey. The short rib was perfectly tender and flavorful, and the combination of the yogurt and cucumber added a refreshing touch to the dish. The Smoked Carrots were a surprise hit, with a smoky flavor that complemented the sweetness of the carrot. The highlight of the meal was definitely the gin and tonic with cranberry. It was the perfect complement to the food and provided a unique twist on the classic gin and tonic. Although the menu is short, it is evident that the dishes are carefully curated to showcase the best flavors of the Middle East. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the semi-open seating area provided a great view of the bustling street. Overall, FRANCIS is a great choice for a laid-back brunch with delicious food and refreshing drinks.

This place is fantastic. The menu is simple, yet elegant. Everything we had had was made to perfection! Great wine selection and the service has to be the best I've experienced in Hong Kong. I cannot recommend this place enough.

It’s on my restaurant wish list for some time. The food is really delicious!! We ordered Halloumi, roasted carrots and a daily special - lamb rack. They were all so good! Especially the lamb rack, it’s perfectly cooked and so tender!

Five stars for this gem of a restaurant! The cozy atmosphere perfectly complements the exquisite flavors of their Mediterranean dishes. Each bite is a journey of taste, and the attention to detail in presentation is impeccable. A must-visit for those who appreciate quality in both ambiance and cuisine.

Been here way too many times and I have almost tried everything on the menu. I’d always go for the lamb rack and Halloumi tho. Like the vibes and consistency of the food 😀

We ordered Burnt Eggplant, Sweet Potato, Beef Short Rib & Desert Rose…. and everything is soooooo damn good! The playfulness in every ingredient…. I can’t! Worth every penny and highly recommended! P.S: wasn’t able to take good photos because I enjoyed it too much. 🤤

Brunch-Set was superb. But more importantly, the lady who served us was very proactive and performed excellent customer service. Was very pleased with the surprise Birthday Cake w/candle. Enjoyed my family's celebration indeed!

One of my favourite restaurants in HK. Super delicious wine, great food, amazingly hospitable. This evening, I came to have a quick drink before meeting friends for dinner.

enjoyable dinner here. Love their hummus and flatbread (even more that it can be refilled) and various mezze that really highlights middle eastern cuisine, something not very common in HK. Love the dessert too, malabi (milk and rice pudding) so soft and silky with the tart cherries and creamy pine nuts on top; a match made in heaven. Only unfortunate thing is the price which has increased since the last time I came by a lot and they even charge service charge now when it was the customer’s choice whether to tip or not before.

A cozy bar Went there at early evening. Got the best seats at open area where can enjoy fresh air and “street view”. Lovely food and wine. Friendly staff as well. Bonus as no services charge. Definitely recommend.

Restaurant situated in a tiny slopy lane in Wanchai. No reservation service. All seats were taken by 8pm, luckily we were early. Food was great though portion was small. I don’t like lamb much because of the special smell but their lamb ribs were so delicious and tender that changed my perception.

Came here for the hummus - didn’t get disappointed. Impressed by the halloumi. Octopus skewer is also good but portion is tiny…

If you are a meat lover, go for a la Carte. the ‘Let us cook’ menu are mostly carbs and only 1/10 (or 2/10 I can’t rmb) dishes has a bit meat. All of the dishes Tasted so good but I needed to make myself a salmon after the dinner 😂 good vibe to spend time with your friends. But don’t pick the window seats during the sweltering summer time….. you are gonna regret HHaha

Weeknight dinner. Wow. What a wholesome experience! The FOOD here is flavourful, generous, priced fairly. Glazed carrots were epic! Hummus excellent! Scallops good; beef manti good (if you are OK with heavier spices); knafeh very good (but we were surprised by how filling it was). SERVICE was thoughtful. At 7.30pm the restaurant was mostly full: initially offered bar table but when the floor manager noticed our bulky bags, she kindly shifted us to a place with more space. Staff refilled our glasses and changed our plates without us asking, and were welcoming in both speech and tone. That itself was very impressive. AMBIENCE fairly good: as with most in Wanchai, space is tight and you will be close to your neighbours, but it was comfortable. Nice mood and music. We look forward to revisiting to enjoy their hospitality again and try other things on this seemingly simple, yet very impressive menu.

Great vibe, nice service, service charge not compulsory but please do tip your server. Food is nice, portion can be a bit small for some. Very reasonable price for lunch.

Everything was good and great! How you imagine Mediterranean food to be. Wasn't able to take pictures of some but had hummus, schnitzel and the lamb kofta too. I think we over ordered for 2. 😂

Came here for a date night. They don’t take reservations but you can leave your name and number if there are no available tables. The food was in small portions, but the set up of the restaurant almost warrants small tapas style dishes, so you can try more dishes. The overall cost of the meal was slightly on the pricey side, but the quality of food, service, and atmosphere was well worth the money. Service charge is not mandatory, but based on the friendly staff, they are certainly worth a tip at the end.

Great Mediterranean food and service! Enjoyed the hummus and lamb chops. We went less than an hour before closing so near the end they kindly asked us to leave without charging us service fee, which is kind of them

Interesting location for a chill night, not so crowded yet lively enough. The outdoor seats can be boiling during summer times, indoor is not so spacious usually serves party of 2 to 4 pax. They serve westernised Middle-Eastern dishes, very nutty hummus and fresh mini naans. Not much wine selection, but they offer wine-flight to try a few wine selection at one time. The hamachi is a bit overcooked.

Authentic middle eastern , great environment for an intimate dinner. Recommend hummus, lamb rib, halloumi . And try their Lebanese red wine, you'll be surprised.

The food incredibly delicious, Lebanese cuisine , good quality and price with beautiful atmosphere, busy place and the manager James is super professional and friendly. I recommend to try, the place doesn’t accept reservation and it’s open the whole day. Very nice to go for an early dinner or late dinner, which is more quiet and you surely will found a table . My favourite dishes: the super tender lamb chop and the baked allumi cheese with pomegranate . The wine selection is excellent, and the smoked carrot 🥕 is a must try. Superb experience 👍

Just perfect, food, the vibe and friendly service. Every one of the dishes we ordered (hummus, burnt eggplant, zucchini salad, lamb Kafta, cauliflower) were delicious. I was excited to find orange wine on the list - I would go for the Slovenia Malvasia next time with a bigger group. We went a bit after 2pm on a public holiday and no need to wait.
