It was our first time coming to this restaurant famous for its roast meats, especially the roast goose. We understand it is some sort of a local institution. We ordered some staple dishes, nothing fancy nor elaborate: a meat platter of roast goose with char-siu, some stirred fried vegetables, and a preserved duck, Chinese sausage rice set. The bill came to a whopping $850 ! The food was good but not better than countless restaurants we tried in Hong Kong for similar food at half the price. Definitely NOT recommended. The restaurant was near empty at noon lunch time on a weekday spoke volumes, indicated sensible people stayed away.

The food, especially the chinese barbecue like roasted goose, soy sauce chicken is excellent, the food quality is very consistent after the renovation, they definitely up their game regarding the roasted goose after the renovation, the skin is crispy, the meat is tender, they now pour heated secret sauce in front of you which enhanced the taste of the goose, you can really taste the richness and the sweetness of the meat. They also have a variety of classic Cantonese style dishes, which they also excel at, I particularly enjoyed the lobster tail, the stir-fried milk, stir-fried beef tenderloin, dryed oyster(seasonal dish), stir-fried shrimp with asparagus. Their service is excellent when the floor isn't full, but if you come at primetime, the service is so-so. My only complaint is they can put more effort to improve the quality of their dessert, it tasted okay but was overshadowed by their excellent stir-fry dishes and Chinese Barbecue. One thing you should do when you walk in is to ask to be seated upstairs, the atmosphere is much better in first or second floor compared to ground floor. I would definitely recommend tourist to come by and try out their Chinese Barbecue, it's definitely top notch and worth the price, you won't be disappointed.

This is a Hong Kong classic. It is unfortunate the pandemic has made this staple restaurant quite empty. (With limits to 2 people per table, most people who usually come as a large group have no choice but wait for restrictions to be lifted) However one good thing about less guest is that I found service was a lot better as waiters were less busy and able to spend more time attending to each guest.

Great place, already known for many years. However, it is not such a great place to visit as a tourist. The food was great but the staff were not very kind considering the amount of food we've ordered. Otherwise, it was a great experience.

By far the best roast goose and char siew I've had so far in my week in Hong Kong. Other dishes were very well done as well. Prices were on the steeper side though. On a positive note, the restaurant houses an entire building block with multiple levels of seating, so getting a place shouldn't be a problem even during lunch hour

Well-exexuted Cantonese cuisine. The roast goose we had had a nice crispy skin yet the meat was a little too dry. I personally prefer the goose we had in Sham Tseng. The other dishes we had tasted good and you can find here a lot of traditional dishes which is difficult to find in other restaurants. The staffs were really polite and attentive as well.

Awesome roasted goose! Must try. Their egg tarts are very soft and flaky too. Price is on the higher side but worth it.

Well known for their roast goose and century egg. Can make reservations through their Web. TBH, used to be better...no longer the best. Too many roast goose had surpassed them. Just ordered their signature roasted goose and half century egg to satisfy my crave cos we are still very very full.

We made a reservation on line and the response was quick. We arrived and they ushered us to a large table for 2. We ordered, of course goose, and several other dishes to accompany the good. I can say without reservations, the roast goose was above and beyond the best we have had. We also ordered bird's nest soup and it was kept piping hot with a burner, suckling pig (they skimmed the fat off!), sea cucumber. The only annoyance were the kids running around, the loud voices from other diners. Can't wait to come back for the food.

A friend curated a special menu for dinner that night and every dish was delicious. Service was also attentive, and an elderly gentleman also took photos for us. Downside is that the place gets noisy when it's busy but thankfully we were given a nice corner away from the noise. Oh, we hardly ever do desserts at Yung Kee but I'm glad we did. They were good! They also have traditional desserts like almond cream and red bean cream. Delightful.

Good roast goose 🪿 as expected the portion seems smaller even though ordered half goose but missing some parts. Other dishes are decent as well. A little pricey overall but also expected. More tourist than local residents.

The manager was super aggressive in “recommending” seafood items even after my family insisted multiple times we don’t want seafood. Unfortunately the food was executed extremely below average and very over priced. 2 stars given to the service of some waiters who were nice. Definitely don’t recommend this place. If you want some good roast goose perhaps try 一樂.

Nice Environment. Clean and nice decor. Mid food quality and taste. Service wise can do better for a well named and branded restaurant especially at central area in Hong Kong.

I have to say the food quality was definitely not as expected. I came here with family for a dinner through direct reservation with the manager. The restaurant is known for the roast goose, siu lap cantonese bbq and brisket. We ordered all of those dishes and none of them were surprisingly good, quality felt like it was equivalent to outside restaurants. The roast goose was especially disappointing, very bland, lack of taste. I nearly couldn't tell I was eating roast goose due to the lack of flavour, my family even questioned me if I had loss of taste due to Covid. But it was proven the dish was just bland. Overall spent around $3100 here for 6 people, highly not worth it. Only dish that was slightly better was the brisket but the texture was also a little hard. But taste was good. The wonton noodle was also good. Very authentic wonton.

They charge an exorbitant amount for their food and waiters coerce customers to get expensive items on their menu. Service is poor, waiters keep glancing and glaring while we dine, simply because what we ordered is not expensive enough. To top it off they charge each customer 30HKD for plain water which is absurd for a restaurant of their class. Dine only if you are willing to fork out money for over priced food and poor service.

Had an order of goose leg with rice and 2 portions of century eggs. Quality isn't really bad, portion isn't large. Haven't had these for almost 3 years now.

People go for the store’s history and the brand name. You’d be able to taste roasted goose and other dishes of the same quality (if not better) for cheaper prices. The portion size of a majority of the dishes are unbelievably small. A good example would be its beef brisket pot, which you have to reserve in advance, though not cheap, can’t even fill one person up. And the prawn vermicelli (recommended by our waitress)... was a big disappointment. Multiple people have told me that you have to know the staffs/waiters/waitresses of the restaurant to be served with superior quality food (which I can testify to). So if you are just another walk-in customer without knowing anyone there, I strong recommend you to visit another restaurant for an equally authentic experience at likely a much cheaper price.

Going alone. Roast goose with rice spaghetti is very nice, price is fair in central with good service and entertainment.

Our first time back after the renovations. I am possibly not moving with the times as I feel that Yung Kee, before renovations, was a place where one could not go wrong. Though upmarket, I had always left with a feeling of having had a satisfying experience. It was in my opinion understated elegance done right. So when my son was reminiscing about the goose this past week, I booked a table for Saturday evening. The preserved eggs and ginger are now a menu item, served in individual portions which surprisingly does not invite experimenting and had taken away the feeling of starting a meal by sharing something from a plate. Plating. Yung Kee has for some reason substituted honest, no nonsense plating for extra large oddly shaped ceramics. In order to be different? French ? Hip? Not working for me. In the bbq goose dish, the beans are now on the side as opposed to being under the goose. They ended up wasted. Slathered with goose juice, they were an important finisher for the goose dish in the past..now just a pretty decoration. Our large table with just the tea pot, the odd large place mat , half a goose platter and a stir fried vegetable dish, ran out of space. It might be optical illusion but it seemed to me they substituted generous portions served simply with smaller portions served (it felt) haphazardly.. Service: Very well trained folks as always, however suddenly a bit too attentive. In Hong Kong I have not been used to having my tea topped up for me all the time. It just breaks the conversation flow.. The Bbq Pork: Tried it for the first time. Ordered it as a top up after the small goose portion. Too sweet and hard. Unremarkable. The steamed chicken was nicely done. Overall the new Yung Kee is tentative, unsure of itself, trying too hard to justify and inexplicably move away from what made it great in the past. It was the first full service restaurant i visited in 1990 that set such high standards for Chinese cuisine in my mind. So I always took my guests and friends there. Unfortunately, it's not that place anymore.

Service is good, roasted goose taste also good, but the goose size is a bit small. Roasted pork seems not as good as before but still good taste. Wan ton noodle size is a bit larger than other noodle house but price is also higher. Overall, though the price is very expensive but still worth to visit.

My wife and I visited a few years ago, but we probably will never to go again. Not sure why the server kept trying to remind us that it was near closing time. She came over to our table at least 3 times to say the same thing, but it was only 9:45pm. She really wanted us to leave I guess. I didn’t see her mentioning the same to the tables next to us. Anyway, we ordered the usual recommended dishes, but I couldn’t say they were anything special. Maybe it’s just accessible Cantonese cuisine for tourists. I’m sure most locals can find better quality food without having to pay the extra tourist prices.
