After wanting to do BJJ for years, I’m glad I finally found Gracie Allegiance with Coach Mike. The studio is clean, bright, and spacious. The team is welcoming and supportive. As a woman and a beginner I feel super safe to learn, roll, and grow here. The beginners class is great… we start off learning self-defense before some basic techniques, escapes and submissions. The more experienced students help teach, demo, and advise newbies like me. Overall, I love the respectful and positive vibe!

Great place to learn if you are new or experienced and looking for a friendly community. The students are respectful and push each other towards growth. Coach Mike has lots of experience in bjj and related areas such as diet and fitness. His insight and guidance is very deep and intelligent. He keeps the place clean and the classes organized. If you are a woman, they have female students that are quick to befriend and guide you. They greet you with smiles and take care of you while training at just the right intensity. Great team to grow with and develop your power and self awareness with plenty of support.

Great Private! I stopped in while on vacation and I had a blast. Mike worked with me for a few weeks leading up to my visit to devise a lesson plan. He was flexible with time and provided a great learning experience. Getting the chance to train with Mike was one of the highlights of my trips to Hawaii. 10/10 would recommend training with him. Mike is a genuine guy who puts effort into delivering the best training possible. I’m going to take what I learned back to the mainland and surprise some of my regular training partners. Next time I visit the island I will make a point to train with Mike again.

I love this place. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get in shape. Coach Mike is experienced and has high standards for his students. Coach Mike always made sure I felt comfortable and trained accordingly to my level at first. But, will encourage you to go further to push you out of your comfort zone. Which was so rewarding because I felt so much stronger and was gaining muscle...lol He always puts your safety and health first. Even when it comes down to eating right. Coach gave me some suggestions on what to eat when I wanted to change my diet. Coach was also flexible with having my husband train with me which I though was pretty awesome because that also motivated me, And made it really fun! I can’t thank Coach Mike enough to help me prepare for a very important event that I had to get ready for in less than 6 weeks. I remember I couldn’t even do 5 push ups. He got me to up to 20 in less than a minute. He always said that technique was part of it. I highly recommend checking Coach Mike out. Thank you Coach Mike for all that you have done to help me achieve my goals! -Talia & Tim H

I love this gym! As a woman, I was intimidated to start doing BJJ, but I’ve always felt welcomed, respected and supported at Gracie Allegiance. The other students encourage each other and everyone is invested in each others’ experience. We cheer each other on in tournaments and folks are always down to drill with you. No one is unnecessarily smashing anyone and unruly rolling is looked down upon. Ego is left at the door. Coach Mike is an amazing teacher who cares about his students’ growth and safety. His instruction is clear and effective. We learn multiple techniques at each class and he goes above and beyond to instruct and inspire us. He also offers private lessons to tailor techniques to your specific style and needs that will take your game to the next level. The workout is incredible and will get you in shape FAST (cardio, strength, and flexibility all in one) and it is so good for the mind-body connection. The community and Mike's instruction make this place unique and top-tier.

Classes here have been great, and the people here are welcoming and friendly. Coach Mike really pays attention to each person’s skill level and tailors classes to help get the most out of you while still following a set curriculum. I really enjoy this since I’m a busy working professional and also have family duties. He pushes us to excel and learn new things but also takes the time to explain what we are doing and why. The studio is clean and there’s lots of fresh air coming through, so I don’t feel paranoid about getting sick. You can park in the lot or there’s lots of metered parking along King Street. I highly recommend trying out a class!

This gym and Coach Mike are truly amazing. I have always wanted to do Jiujitsu since I was young but never had the chance to because I was doing dance or cheerleading. I recently got out of collegiate cheer and wanted to try something new. It was really hard for me to find a place to start because I was already in college with no experience in MMA. I was also nervous because I was a girl. I saw Gracie Allegiance Honolulu on Instagram and was immediately interested. I saw that they had multiple post with people around my age and other females. It looked like a very friendly and judgement free environment. I decided to reach out to Coach Mike and he welcomed me into the academy right away. My first day was truly amazing and made me realize that this is exactly what I was looking for. Even though I did not know anything, coach Mike helped me and was very patient. His explanations on the different positions and transitions make it easy to follow. There were also a few girls there that helped me learn. They were very encouraging but pushed me enough to make me learn what to do next. I started this journey because I wanted to learn how to defend myself and do a hobby that would take the place of cheer. I have been here for almost a month now and I still love it. I have learned so much from this short span and can't wait to learn more. I always look forward to the next class because it is never the same and always fun. I highly recommend you join this academy if you want to learn Jiujitsu and self defense.

Just trained with Mike Chu at Allegiance in Honolulu. The first thing that comes to mind is PROFESSIONALISM.. Expert instruction , clean facility ,no egos . I am truly impressed with this training center. THANK YOU! UPDATE: Had such a great session the first time that I brought my daughter for a second session. She is a traveling nurse in Hawaii for a few more months and we appreciate the foundation of personal safety and self-defense đź‘Ť

Gracie Allegiance Honolulu is truly an amazing place for the beginners who are interested in Brazilian jiujitsu. You don’t need to have any previous experience in any martial arts at all. If you want to improve yourself whether in self-defense or just fitness, this is the right place to go. This is a welcoming and friendly school, and professor Mike is responsive, patient and responsible. All the senior students are also generous and enthusiastic in helping with the junior students. Additionally, it also provides women class on weekends. You are going to have a blast and boost your confidence in here!

I was looking for a jiujitsu school that was reputable. Gracie Allegiance is safe, clean and inviting. Professor Mike Chu is an excellent teacher. He is patient and understanding of his students capabilities. Professor Mike has built a superior culture of excellence amongst his students. They all are respectful and helpful amongst each other. As a law enforcement officer, I know how important self defense is. If you want to learn self defense, self discipline and want to get a good workout in a fun, safe and clean environment, I highly recommend Professor Mike and Gracie Allegiance school. They also offer women only classes and private lessons. I’m happy that I now have a school where I can refer to people too!

Professor Mike invited me to check out one of his classes and I’m glad I finally had the chance to. Although I know some bjj, my training has been sporadic so when I attended the beginner’s class and the no-gi class, there was something for everyone and I left with some good tips and details to work on. The classes were structured and moved along at a good pace. Everyone was really friendly, welcoming and no one was out of control or too aggressive. I live pretty far from the school so I can’t make it there too often, but I’ll definitely be visiting again when I have the chance. Would highly recommend to anyone starting bjj due to professor Mike’s attention to details and safety, the structure of the classes, and the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Professor Mike was very friendly and informative. My two sisters and I recently joined the school and have enjoyed the beginner classes as it is very open and accommodating to beginners with no previous experience. The class alongside the students has been a fantastic experience. I recommend it for beginners looking for a fun and friendly experience! Also the training location/gym was very clean and sanitary.

I was training with Professor Clark Gracie in San Diego and mentioned that I would be visiting Hawaii and he encouraged me to stop by Professor Mike's academy in Honolulu. Our schedules aligned and we had a great session. The student I was assigned to roll with was very helpful, and Professor Mike's guidance was so precise, sharp and tailored around his own observations on my strengths. I enjoyed the session, learned a lot and hope to visit again!
