We sat on the outdoor patio and had a great experience. The staff was awesome. The “big five” was delicious, especially the `ulu, and vegetarian. My wife also got the side of fish and reports it was very tasty. The brownie dessert was chocolate-forward and delicious too.

First and foremost, I must admit the service that I had was such an esteemed and extraordinary experience from my server, Jennifer Aki. I believe her name was. She is very knowledgeable of the menu, we had a food allergy request, and she had a book available for us to review. She really understood the importance of us. She recommended a few dishes, cocktails and dessert! Dog friendly place, the outside patio was the perfect spot, and I would definitely recommend this place.

What a joy it was to eat here! My husband and I are on vacation in O’ahu and this was our first sit down meal (in Hawaii and also in a long time cause of the pandemic). I did a lot of research and Mud Hen Water popped up on a few lists, it also looked to have one of the most interesting farm to table menus. I had a made a reservation and noted our anniversary. The service was amazing! They gave us Prosecco for our anniversary and an amuse buche. I had a golden sour cocktail and my husband had an ipa. The cocktail was amazing! We ordered the sausage and clams, carbonara and two orders of bread along with a brownie for dessert. We shared everything (it’s meant to be served family style) and we thought these were filling enough Honestly the best and most interesting food I’ve had! The only downside is it did take a while to get the food but once we had it we were in love! The patio has a really nice vibe. Wish we could come back!

literally the best place where we ate during our stay in Oahu (we did more than 20 different places). it was the reference of a local chef (the one from our wedding). really for the price and more, it is a place that is worth the detour. tastes and excitement of the taste buds guaranteed. we ate so quickly it was so good, wow my compliments to the chef

My new favorite restaurant. So many beautiful, healthy, and innovative dishes to share with loved ones. I can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Hands down, the most memorable dish of my Hawaii 2021 food vacation was the Szechuan Lotus Root w/ Rainbow Carrot at Mud Hen Water. When a carnivore is moved by a dish that’s (surprise!!!) vegetarian, people need to take notice. That and the bartender makes killer drinks!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mud Hen Water in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service provided by our server Lena was absolutely outstanding. Lena was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and took the time to recommend various dishes based on our preferences. Her suggestions were spot-on, and we were delighted with every dish we ordered. Her genuine enthusiasm for the food made the dining experience even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of our meal was the Beet Poke. This unique twist on a traditional Hawaiian dish was a revelation. The beets were perfectly marinated and tender, and the flavors melded together beautifully. It was a refreshing and innovative take on poke that left us wanting more. Another standout dish was the Chicken Long Rice Croquettes. These crispy and flavorful croquettes were packed with tender chicken and had a delightful crunch. The accompanying sauce added a wonderful balance of tanginess and richness, making it an absolute delight to indulge in. The tofu dish we tried was a revelation. It was prepared in a way that showcased its delicate texture and allowed the flavors to shine. The tofu was silky smooth and absorbed the savory sauce it was served in, creating a delightful combination of tastes and textures. We also had the pleasure of trying the hand-cut pasta, which was a true work of art. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the accompanying sauce was rich and flavorful. Every bite was a taste sensation, and we couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail that went into creating this dish. Overall, our dining experience at Mud Hen Water was exceptional. The combination of the cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and outstanding food made it a truly memorable evening. I highly recommend Mud Hen Water to anyone looking for a unique and satisfying dining experience in Honolulu. Make sure to ask for Lena as your server - her expertise and recommendations will enhance your visit even further.

Nicely spaced seating, open walls and windows with subsequent safer and good ventilation, correctly and attentive masked staff. We shared the excellent tempura fish sandwich, vegetarian congee, and mapo tofu biscuits and eggs. We'll be back!

Best meal we had in Honolulu (or maybe the best meal I’ve had in a year?!). Amazing integration of local ingredients and fusion flavors. Mapo rice cakes were insane! Great cocktails, not too sweet and perfectly nuanced flavors. Vincent our server was great. Don’t miss the brownie!

Firstly, bravo kitchen, food was outstanding. Full of flavour and well presented. The host was very sweet and helpful too. However, the service we received was lack luster and something to be desired. Our server spoke to us as if we had no idea, not knowing we have actually worked both back and front of house in many restaurants. Our waters were not topped up once and we had to refill our wine glasses ourselves all meal. At the end of the meal he was shocked and exclaimed 'wow you finished the bottle'...well yes, 1. that's rude to say 2. you would have known earlier had you been attentive and then maybe asked if we'd like anything else. It was also a special celebration, but there was no acknowledgement of this. In fact the opposite, we felt very much overlooked the entire time we were dining. We honestly had better service across the road at Brew'd. Food: 5/5 Service: 2/5 (mainly because the host was great)

Had a really lovely quick dinner here and it was truly delicious from start to finish! We mopped everything between the two of us. Particularly enjoyed the kind service, the kitchen cocktail (Beet juice, basil leaf, Strega, gin, lemon juice), the mapo tofu rice cakes (could be even better if made spicy, but super good textures and ginger flavor!), chicken long rice croquettes, he'e roll, and ginger rice pudding. So many more things I'd love to try next time, like their beet poke and cured fish :))

I can’t wait to come back to this place. Gave me a chance to try uniquely Hawaiian foods, cooked really well and with a nice little patio. Loved the little ferns and the clams! Parking options weren’t great though.

Definitely come here when you’re in Honolulu especially if you’re looking for elevated versions of local food. Service was top-notch as was the menu options. Definitely get the croquettes, and the sausage and clams which are both to die for. We also had the octopus hoagie and the fish over long beans which were also really good. Top it off with some ulu olive oil cake for the dessert and you’ll be a happy guest. Drinks are also a good match for the food, especially the cocktails.

We did the family style meal for a group of 4. Some dishes were hits, some were misses, so I would do A La Carte instead. It was recommended that as our first time there, the family style was a good introduction. I liked the croquettes, sausage and clam + the bread, and the 3 family style desserts were really good. Service was also good and food came out fast.

Every dish we had was great. My favorites were probably the Buttered ‘Ulu, Hawaiian Rose Veal Meatballs and the Mapo Rice Cakes. Their ginger beer is house made as well.

Exceptional blends of flavors with Hawaiian twists. Especially loved the croquettes (smth I’ve never said), meatballs (1st time finding cardamom in a ball, it worked!), clams, mapo rice cakes and dessert of brownie with black sesame. Small plates are great for sharing.

So we decided to come here for my (now) fiances birthday. And it was a very good choice. Our server was very nice and helped us to understand how the menu works. So we went with the Family Style. Which is all the items on the menu labeled (FS) and we added on drinks ala carte. (For those who drink alcohol, it's included in the menu) and it was a great time with a good experience with getting to try everything on the menu almost. So now we know for the next time of what we like and we will order for the next time we come here. And 10/10 will eventually come back here again. (It can be expensive lol) but I do suggest to try it out and come here and support this place!

I ordered the Big 5 + fish and would happily eat this everyday if I could! It’s the kind of food I always crave — thoughtfully prepared fresh and local ingredients, each individual veg dish was impeccably seasoned. My one critique, given how amazing my meal was, is that the local i’a club sandwich seemed less impressive side by side. Still delicious though, and the drink selection was great as well!

Phenomenal small plates experience. We ordered most of the menu and enjoyed everything. The menu has no respect for ethnic boundaries between menu items which made for a fun, varied meal. Good vegetarian and surf/turf options as well.

Amazing restaurant which use local ingredients. The croquettes were so good and also the brownie for dessert. Smaller plates but great for sharing many. Cocktails were also superb. Service was very friendly and very helpful.

They have several signature dishes like long rice croquets but what’s exciting about their menu is how they incorporate the seasonal local ingredients like bread fruits. For a trendy spot, they were extremely accommodating to my little kid. #familyfriendly #tapas #izakaya #eatlocal #covidsafe #glutenfreeoptions

Cute little place with amazing family style dishes and killer cocktails! Everything we had was delicious. We tried the fried chicken, Szechuan rainbow carrots, and the crockets. The crockets are probably my favorite. Will def be back! Make sure you have a reservation otherwise you might not be able to get a table.

A very welcoming and intimate experience. Friendly waitstaff treat you like a new friend. The family course was very good. Each dish seemed very thoughtfully prepared with balanced flavors. We got the carbonara in addition to the course and that was also great.

Great experience, quite a treat with a few surprises. The blending of local and regional flavors, then elevating it a notch, really makes this place quite special. The fried chicken was probably the best single dish we had on this trip (and we ate a lot eating out for 5 weeks on 3 islands)! Would be a great place to go with 4-5 people and get one of everything on the menu. Highly recommended!

This place definitely deserves a higher rating. With excellent cocktails, unique dishes, and great service throughout, this is one of my new favorite restaurants! The croquettes and the sausage and clams were some of the best foods I've ever tasted!
