Delicious! I recommend getting appetizers and desserts to try more menu items without breaking the bank (lots of food to eat on the island so definitely need to budget accordingly). We had 5 different dishes and each one was awesome in it’s own right. The hot chocolate dessert is what dreams are made of. We will come back here before we leave just to have it again!

We had the best dining experience at Roy’s on our honeymoon! We sat outside and enjoyed sunset over the ocean! Our servers were attentive and thoughtful. My husband ordered the prix fixe menu and I ordered meatloaf. We had blackened ahi and baby back ribs as appetizers. The ribs were tasty, but we surprised ourselves by favoring the ahi. My meatloaf was perfectly cooked. My husband’s short rib was good, but the macadamia nut Hawaiian fish was our favorite dish of the night! It was tender and flavorful. We upgraded dessert to the chocolate soufflé. The warm dark chocolate was fantastic with raspberry sauce and vanilla ice cream. We didn’t think we liked seafood but Roy’s convinced us otherwise! We’d love to come back the next time we visit Oahu.

It was nice to being my dad while he was here visiting. He used to frequent Roy’s in Atlanta when he traveled for work so he really enjoyed Roy’s at Hawaii Kai! The food was outstanding and all of the staff was kind and pleasant.

It’s a shame that have to leave a 0 star. Been looking forward to try this restaurant and totally disappointed from service level to food quality. Considered it’s a fine dining restaurant, hostesses are very unprofessional and rude. Seems annoyed that we were 15 minutes late to our reservation due to heavy traffic. We were then placed on a table in the hallway next to the bar. (While other tables are available). When we finally get the courage to asked to move to another table, the waitress was kind enough to move tables to accommodate, but immediately the hostesses protest like customers should not be accommodated. The $300 dinner did not get off a good start. The food were also a disappointment. Blackened Ahi has no seasoning but soak in a pool of mustard “sauce”. The famous butterfish was also soaked in sauce”. Overall the food are overrated and staff was unfriendly. One good thing is their kid menu portion are generous. Kid’s short rib was well cooked. But will never come back and never recommend any of my friend. A lot more better place to eat in Oahu.

I had the scallops. Beautiful presentation but too salty tonight. The seared ahi was my second choice. Lightly seared in a light sauce. Very tender. The pineapple upside down cake is very nice. Not too sweet and wonderful to eat! We also had the molten lava cake, decadent and best to share😋

Had a fantastic dinner celebrating an anniversary. The service and food are amazing. We ordered the hamachi Crudo, Ahi 20 roll, Hawaii Kai ocean trio and 1/2 rack of lamb.

I went here for my promotion party for work and it was a great experience. The food and service unparalleled, and if you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion then Roy’s in Hawaii Kai is a good place to go.

Wonderful restaurant for dinner. Amazing food and excellent service. The macadamia nut Hawaiian fish, braised beef short rib, crispy zucchini, and Kuli’ou’ou organic mix salad were our favourites of the dishes we tried. The bread pudding was also incredible. Beautiful views from the restaurant as well. Excellent experience!

My wife and I had a very pleasant experience at Roy's original. We had a few items that we mostly shared between us. We pretty much got the seafood trio of fish and shellfish. We had Rainbow Crudo (salmon, tuna and hamachi), Maunalua Collection (Clams, Shrimp, Scallop, Uni Alfredo, Crown Noodle Fettuccini), Hawaii Kai Ocean Trio (Misoyaki Butterfish, Macadamia Nut Fish, Hibachi Salmon) and the Pineapple Upside Down Cake. I wrote another review about Morimoto Maui, and basically I expected the same quality as we received from Roy. All the dishes hit all the spots. Everything was cooked to perfection, the sauces were just outstanding, like it is one of those kinds of sauces you wish you could just drink a bowl of. Our favourites of what we ate were the Misoyaki Butterfish, super tender, great sauce and nice balance of sweet and creamy. Uni Alfredo was hard at first to taste the uni, but eventually you get a great taste of the salty and sour, with that creamy silky sauce, and it wasn't heavy like a traditional alfredo. I don't think it was made using a roux method. The upside down pineapple cake was just like any perfect cookie, crispy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. The pineapple well caramelized and not overly sweet. Also served with vanilla ice cream which did not over power the cake. Staff was excellent, humourous and on point. One small hiccup with the food order but quickly corrected. This was a knockout, and afterwards we booked another reservation for three days later. But due to distance we opted for the beach house location. Review coming soon. It is definite repeat and will reminisce those dishes. Also excellent value!

Agreeing with many of the other comments our experience was just OK and it was under whelming. Our server was really inattentive, he never checked up on us and we ordered our drinks and food from the water and cleaning people because we couldn’t find him. We got the canoe appetizer and not even joking the sushi tasted like nail polish. I tried two of them and it tasted like straight acetone I had to spit it out. The ribs were over cooked and chewy. My main course though which was fish was delicious! And the dessert was very good too. But for a Yamaguchi restaurant we were very disappointed. I would not come back. If you want better Yamaguchi food and service go to the beach house.

Best fish I've ever had in my life. That misoyaki butterfish melts in your mouth and the swordfish was exquisite. Despite salmon not being local to Hawaii it was the best I've ever had. They accommodated us by moving us to a better seat when they had originally put us in a not so great one because it was our anniversary. Loved the (ube?) Custard dessert they hooked us up with. Comped our scallops because they were gritty. Love!

Excellent food. Felt rushed, under an hour for a three course dinner for two and a $280 bill. Service was good but without the HK friendliness we are used to.

We were excited to visit our first "fancy" place in Oahu, but were honestly disappointed by the results. We were full, service was fine, atmosphere was fine, but the food just really really fell short. Not sure if it was an off day for the chef, or what. The menu had potential, but suffered from under seasoning and just lack of balance. $200 got us the following food. (Two people) Course 1 Duck (good! Well cooked!) plaired with Okinawa sweet potato (way too sweet, overpowering the duck...should have been dessert!...which it actually also was...and was delicious there!) Smoked baby back rib, a shrimp on cocktail sauce with a little leaf of kimchi - tasted like Costco food honestly. Why was the kimchi even there? I expected the cocktail sauce to be gochujang based or maybe sambal. But nope. Just cocktail sauce. The "wasabi shrimp stick" didn't taste like wasabi either? Bacon orange fried brussel sprouts - not crispy, had a lot of what tasted like sultana raisins which were nice. I couldn't taste any bacon honestly, I guess the marmalade was stronger than the bacon. Course 2 Beef rib - so incredibly bland Macadamia crusted fish - so incredibly bland Together on top of salty macaroni and cheese orzo...tasted like Kraft dinner on my undersalted beef and fish. Cheese... especially this kind of cheese shouldn't be on the same plate of fish...or anything really. Course 3) Cheesecake - bleh very...buttery? Too soft. Pineapple upside down cake - Good! Great! Recommended by our server - thank you! Sweet potato panna cotta - Great! Wonderful! So in the end, if we were to ever have to come back...we would stick to dessert.

Haven't been to this original Roy's in years and was excited to go. Was craving fish and upon the server's recommendation, I went with the steamed fish dish. Maybe he suggested it because it's the more expensive besides the ahi? Very disappointing. Flavor was lacking and the fish texture was spongy like it had been previously frozen. I didn't say anything because we were celebrating a birthday with guests visiting from Cali. Had my souffle which I was happy to have, but the chocolate did not ooze like when Roy's first opened and the plating very boring. A garnish would be nice to see. I was so excited and now wish I didn't take the time to go all the way there. Service still fabulous! And the room still delightful.

Lovely setting, great food and very good service. The happy hour deals are excellent! Easy access, lots of parking in the area. If you sit outside there is a lovely view and great sunsets! Easy to recommend!!!

Went for a personal private event. First on the list was Roy's Dim Sum Appetizer Plate: Sugarland tomato capresse, mushroom arancini, island blackened ahi, and crispy zucchini bao - it decent but nothing fancy. I think the crispy zucchini bao was probably the favorite of the four. Next dish was the shrimp Caesar salad with pepper croutons - I would order this for a main entree if I only ate salad, definitely enjoyed this. I had the Mongolian short ribs with Yukon potato puree - the meat was a little dry and it kind of lacked favor, had to scope the sauce to add some taste to it. The potato purée was good! There was also the baby back ribs version, which I heard was really good and feel off the bone. There was also a Mac nut encrusted fish that I also heard was really good. Next time I should try those two. Final dish was a Lilikoi panna cotta dessert - it was delicious! Roy have to give the Hawaii Kai dessert team a raise because it knocked my tastebuds out the window. Also give the bartender a raise cause my Roy’s old fashioned was on it! The wait staff was on it as well! They should deserve a raise! It is best to make reservations and there are ample parking. There is an outside sitting area as well. This place is good for date night.

We decided to host our bi-annual company dinner at this location and we were not disappointed! Carmen, their Private Dinning Coordinator, was so easy to work with and made sure our event was executed, almost, flawlessly. They had put together a prefix menu for us, and within our desired budget! They took great care in making sure food allergies were attended to and they placed our company logos on both the main and keiki menu. I was not, personally, able to attend but heard a lot of great comments from our team members, and their families, that did attend. They really enjoyed the view, the food and the attention of the staff. Mahalo Roy's for hosting our company dinner!

Celebrated my birthday at Roy's with my sister. The food, drinks, and service was excellent 👌. I highly recommend this restaurant. The prefix menu absolutely 💯 amazing 👏.

Came to Roy’s when we are on our honeymoon trip. This area is much quieter, away from the downtown craziness. We came around 6:45 while the sun was setting. Everything from the view to the food and drinks are exceptional. I highly recommend the Classic trio to get a taste of three different kinds of fish.

Went here with a friend after she looked up best restaurants in Honolulu. This place is amazing! Definitely the best place we dined all trip. Food was excellent! We had the baby back ribs, dragon roll, and sizzling beef. The sizzling beef is a must. For desert we had chocolate soufflé and it was “chefs kiss.” Our server Brandon was an absolute delight as well!

My husband & I celebrated our anniversary here and had a good experience. Waiter noticed our table was a little wobbly and tried to stabilize it with something, but for some reason it became wobbly again (we just took care eating for the rest of the meal). Food was wonderful--I got the Misoyaki Butterfish, which was presented beautifully (and was delicious) & my husband ordered a decent 14oz ribeye that was topped with goat cheese (paired quite nicely). Husband really enjoyed his Banana Bread pudding & I liked my Upside-down Pineapple Cake. Thank you for the wonderful meal and service :)

A fancy, beachside restaurant with delicious meals, especially seafood. We had a great view. The workers are super friendly. I think it's a great place for special occasions like anniversaries.

Food was pricey. Really good place to take someone for their birthday, it seemed every party there was celebrating a birthday. Food was great not outstanding. I cut the inside of my mouth with a prawn maybe that’s why I’m saying that. The views and vibe are why I gave this place five stars and the service.

My husband and I had our little wedding reception dinner here in the private dining room. The food was amazing— all of my guests said “best wedding reception food ever” and yeah, I’d have to agree! I had the butterfish and my husband had the rack of lamb. The dessert trio was also a huge hit and folks were raving about the green sauce that came with the appetizer sushi rolls. The staff were all friendly, professional and courteous. They also brought some extra fun to the party— they caught wind that one of my tables really really liked the drunken pineapples in the mai tais, so they brought out an entire plate of drunken pineapples! 🍍🍹 Also a huge huge thank you to Carmen, who was the coordinator I emailed with for months prior to the event. She was unbelievably fast at replying to emails, answered all of my questions, and I think her hard work made the process much smoother. Thank you Roy’s for being a part of my wedding day!

Was here about a month ago. Got seated immediately and the host star was very friendly. The appetizers were very good (egg roll) and edamame was a nice touch. However, I ordered the meatloaf and came across a bone shard. My wife ordered the ravioli, good but nothing super special. The desserts were great. Overall the bone shard really through off the experience which is why I’m eating low.

It was ok, but the menu felt dated. If I was looking for the 1990’s, it would have been spot on. There are so many better places for the price. Keep looking-

This place is so fantastic! Our server (Kenneth) was beyond awesome. I felt terrible because we had to skip out and take dessert with us to make it to the Van Gough exhibit... he handled it like the pro he is! Boxed up our dessert and some cookies for the kids; which totally hit the spot when we got home. The entire meal was incredible from the apps to the drinks, the meals and on through to the desserts. Everyone working on the 4th was really cool; super attentive, awesome personalities... the works! An all around amazing place to visit for adults and adults with kids.

Roy and is wife Denise are absolutely wonderful people and have created a wonderful community and food culture for this world to enjoy. I’ve been to his restaurants all over the nation. Nothing beats home and a sunset over moanalua bay. I grew up in Hawai’i Kai and Honolulu has always been home. You will never find a better or more luxurious spot than this. I pray the food in heaven is as good as Roy’s, otherwise I’m staying here. Bless this place and bless our home. The manager was a class act and the service showed my date and I pure hospitality and ALOHA. Looking forward to getting back there asap

Braised short-ribs are excellent. Paella is not really paella, more risotto ish. The prix fixe pictured is the best bet! Happy wives...

We had a wonderful dinner at Roy’s celebrating our anniversary. It was nice to get away from the touristy restaurants around Waikiki. The Asian fusion menu was delightful.

My daughter and I went here to celebrate our birthdays. I have eaten at a lot of different places in my life (I just turned 51). Our meal was fantastic! Definately in my top 3 of the the best meals I have ever had! The crab cakes, the sushi and the fish trio were delicious! The service was also wonderful, as was the personalized surprise cake at the end! Highly recommend Roy's!
