I took out my date here for dinner. She is a good eater, just like me. We ordered Furi Mi wings, a combination bento and California rolls! We were fully satisfied with the taste and quantity! The steak was delicious! The service was fast! The only jumble up was that we were served the main course before the appetizers, which we didn't mind. But apart form that, the aura was great. The place is clean and nice. It made my date very happy, which made me happy! A great experience overall!

Good food and a place to get together, parking was easy and a fair amount of spots were available on a Saturday night. We didn't wait long, the only thing that we took long is because the menu is extensive and hard to make a choice quickly.i ordered two appetizer plates and a senior meal. Why not! The food is consistent with the Niu Valley store and service was on point. We enjoyed the meal and will return.

Sort of out of the way location in a residential mixed area, but good food with quick service and good serving sizes. They also offer coupons and discount certificates along specials during certain hours. Great desert selection and the shave ice rivals Matsumoto...it's that good! 😋

This is absolutely the worst restaurant. I called in a takeout order when I got there they were clueless. The manager is hopeless; I should have known that's why it's so slow. I'm never going back there again. You can go there if you want to get disappointed.

Fast and Friendly Service. Authentic Japanese Restaurant. Food Portions are just right for amount and very Tasty. They have lots of deals ( Senior menu [60 Years or older],Kids Eat Free [Monday and Tuesday] and Milatary Discounts). Okinawan Sweet Potato Pie and Deluxe Green Tea Shaved Ice are Highly recommended.

Went around 6pm on a Tuesday. I had called ahead to check if there was a wait and they said I could walk in. Luckily that was a good move because then the place started filling up. As far as service, our waiter was incredibly nice and made sure to check in with us frequently. Karaage chicken was great for appetizer. For entree, I ordered the Teriyaki Short Rib, chicken katsu, and tempura combo platter - if you don't have a crazy big appetite, this can be shared with two people which is what I did. For dessert, we ordered the Gyotaku Shave ice. We weren't sure of the flavor so the waiter asked if we wanted rainbow which is all flavors mixed - he def did not disappoint since it was eaten within minutes!!

I never know what to think about Gyotaku. The restaurant has a very Hawaii vibe and the servers are attentive and nice. The food is good too, it just feels like most of the food is a mainland take on Hawaii's take of Japanese food, which is kind of off-putting. Maybe it's just that they serve corn as a side to their dishes.

Fantastically good Japanese cuisine at very reasonable prices. The service was excellent, attentive, and welcoming. I would gladly come here again and again. It's a bonus that they have a section in their menu offering senior portions and prices. It's an even bigger bonus that they offer shaved ice for dessert, and several green tea options.

It was my husband’s birthday on Christmas Eve. First time eating here and would come back again, good service and yummy food, butterfish/tempura, Rib eye, karaage chicken, miso soup…Okinawan sweet potato pie. All we ate are delicious. We like that there’s social distancing too.

Solid Japanese food. I had pork donburi that I enjoyed. My brother enjoyed his chicken donburi. This is a competent restaurant. They also do a good job with teriyaki beef, grilled chicken, ahi nitsuke, and other dishes.

If you’re looking for Japanese sit down or take out, this is a good family restaurant. My recommendations are butterfish, salmon, and tempura. I attended a baby shower and we had to pay extra to stay in the upstairs room.

First time to try this restaurant. I had Misoyaki Salmon Teishoku. It may have been the best salmon I've had! Sweet potato pie was divine. I will be returning to Gyotaku to check out the rest of their menu! (If there was more parking, this would have been 5 stars!)

I don't know why they have a 4.3 star. The restaurant is an average Japanese restaurant in Hawaii. I had the $15 Gyotaku Lunch special, while others in my party had a Mochiko Chicken salad($15), Butter fish/Tempura Set($31), and senior's steak lunch($14). Nice presentation of I didn't care for their sushi, but the rest of the food was okay. It was quite busy and popular, but plenty of parking.

So delicious and the service is incredible! Very attentive and everybody enjoyed their meal. The tonkatsu curry is a teeny bit spicy in case you don't like spice at all. I don't know how they prepare the tonkatsu, but it was exceptional. It can be a bit pricey, but they have lunch and senior specials that are reasonable; plus an early bird dinner special too. The quality of the food out weighs the cost. Worth it. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Consider reasonable price for Japanese meals. Especially with the coupon. They rather keeping customers waiting. So many opening tables available; while too many people are waiting outside? They could have made more money if they arrange seating more efficiency!!

The food was very good, I enjoyed it! Our server Liz was awesome, very friendly n helpful, which made our experience there much nicer! Lots of parking, we did have to wait in line for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, but it was worth the wait. Prices were high for certain items, but reasonable for most things. Will definitely recommend this place to others😁🤙🏽

We found no bones in our fish menus, salmon or butter fish, I appreciate this considerate work. It's a senior friendly restaurant with affordable menus for seniors over the age 60. They bring salad and miso soup ahead of the meal, I prefer miso soup served hot with the set.

Food is good but a bit overpriced. Went in for lunch and had the pokechos (poke nachos) and a steak. Highly recommend the pokechos. The steak was good and decently seasoned. The reason for the 3 stars is the first gyotaku I went to i got food poisoning. This a number of years ago. Different location and long since closed, but this is still a chain. Definitely a one off which is why I decided to go again after all these years. The other reason is the price. Appetizers and lunch bentos are in the 20 range, entrees are in the 30 range. Still overall the food is good, the atmosphere is nice, and the staff are awesome. I would go again.

I was very impressed with Gyotaku. To start, the salad was a really delicious surprise with a much appreciated imitation crab piece. For the entree, the steak was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy. It came with tempura as a combo, which was a fantastic contrast for the meal. I'd definitely go back for their steak.

So...one of my Bff's Mom took us here💜 It was my first time & I ordered a Ginger Iced Tea and was pleasantly surprised with a little cup with real ginger juice to put into my tea, as much as I wanted 🤙🏾 I also ordered the 3-choice bento. I got the Sashimi, Misoyaki Butterfish and Salmon and... OMG, they were SO fresh and literally MELTED in my mouth 😋 The waiter was attentive and the atmosphere was cozy... I would DEFINITELY recommend this place 💯😋

If you want great Japanese ambiance and delicious meals Served with traditional meticulous care and pride, then treat yourself and friends to this warm, welcoming restaurant. The large artistic Japanese style prints of onaga and octopus greet you at the entrance, as banners of this Gyotaku restaurant's expertise and profession. Here, hot green matcha tea is served at the onset, immediately transporting you to a simpler elegant lifestyle that was greatly appreciated after much hard work and preparation for every detail that makes up each common moment. It's a memorable experience to dine here. From the depth of the bowl of miso soup to the crunch of the tempura batter, each ingredient measured according to an ancient wisdom, it seems..I'm sure the cooks must have loved their grandmas for keeping the joy of cooking alive and remembering to use her special touches in their recipes. Long live the diverse cultures and traditions of our island foods.~Annie,11.27.23

We love getting take out bentos from Gyotaku for lunch. Before the pandemic, we’d always order bentos for family lunches. It’s very easy to order online and pickup from the restaurant. They are very efficient and helpful if you have any questions regarding your order.

Is this the best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to? Not really but it certainly wasn’t the worst. I got the gyotaku set and it was really good value and almost everything was good. The only thing that wasn’t good was the tekka roll. It have very little tuna and just felt like a rice ball. On the other hand the tempura and ebi tempura was very good and was crispy and had great flavor. I will come here again and avoid sushi rolls.

Food was good but the service was slow tonite. We got seated on the 2nd level in the back room. It took about 30 minutes for our dinner after we got our soup and salad. We were the only one left in the room. I guess they were short staff or maybe forgot about us since we are in the back room.

Missed the lunch bentos so got the senior meal. Thought it might not be enough for me, it was just enough! That's my senior meal in front of me, my sister's combo of sashimi and tempura across from me. Tastes sooooo good after not eating at the restaurant for so long. Take out just isn't the same. Great service, friendly staff, delicious food!!! Happy to be eating out again. If you can, go mid afternoon, less people around!

I usually enjoy the food and service @ Gyotaku. It's a fav Japanese restaurant of my family. However, this past week I had a bad experience when I ordered take out food. Altho I had placed my order early in the morning for a late afternoon pick up time, my food wasn't ready when I arrived at the restaurant! Furthermore, they got my order wrong & I had no sauce for my tempura! Lastly, the fish in my sushi was discolored (very dark), definitely NOT FRESH!!! I called & spoke to the manager who quickly apologized, then proceeded to offer me a measly 10% on my next order! But, when I called again and spoke to another manager, she compted my dish.

I am so glad Gyotaku is open. I never appreciated this place until all this covid stuff. I was really scared because so many businesses have closed or will close. You have the best lunch specials and poke bowls and the prices aren't bad at all. Please stay open forever.
