Such an awesome location to get stunning views of south Oahu, especially Honolulu and Dimond Head. The drive up to this location is a steeper grade so I’m not sure riding mopeds up here is a great idea, though we saw a few putting along and holding up traffic. Also, the road leading here goes through a neighborhood, so please be respectful of their area. Parking is limited and I didn’t spot any bathrooms here but there may be some located near the picnic area. No matter, this is a must see location if you’re into stunning tropical island views.

Love the view. You can see Diamond Head, the whole Waikiki, and the surrounding area. The road to the top was winding and narrow. You'll need to drive slow and be extra careful. Parking is limited. It was quite windy at the top of the mountain. It's a good place for a picnic... But you'll need to bring a sitting mat. Didn't see a restroom. Only a short drive both of Waikiki.

Highly recommend renting mopeds from Hawaiian Style Rentals in Waikiki and driving up to Tantalus lookout for sunset! The view of the entire island is unreal and the winding road to the top is a scenic tropical like garden. You can pack a lunch and have a picnic here also. Plan to spend at least an hour exploring various points near the top as it’s truly surreal.

What a beautiful place. If you visiting Honolulu you should make an effort to visit. There is a parking for about 10 cars well maintained access and the viewing point. Perfect place for a mini picnic with glass of wine or a beer. Best time to visit about an hour and half before sunset. Park ranger will ask you to leave at closing. Best way to get here is by car.

Great view of diamond head and waikiki/honolulu. We stayed for the sunset and was not disappointed. There are parking spots at the lookout if you wanted to drive all the way up. Fills up quick but we parked in a large gray area right near the lookout just before sunset. Go past the no parking signs and should be ok.

Wonderful views of the city very relaxing and we enjoyed ourselves with a blanket and picnic at the top, they have some grass crave out perfectly for that. SO much to take in with so little time. SO we decided to stay awhile and relax and eat. It is so pleasant up there. There are about 10 parking spots up there, and a restroom at the drive way before the one you pulled in to get there if you have to go. I hope this helps you out and have a great day.

Oh this was the best spot to enjoy the sunset from the top with the view overlooking into the city and the Diamond head crater. The color change of the city and crater along with the sunset was beautiful. Get your own food and mat/beach chair to have a seat on the grass and enjoy the view.

Omgoodness! This is a PICTURE PERFECT view. But a word of advice is you should definitely go up the mountain before darkness catches you. Because I will admit those winding, narrow roads will have you a bit nervous. When you get there it's so quiet and breathtaking. This place is a for sure must go to spot.

Seems like on your average weekday the top of Puu Ualakaa park is rather quiet, we stopped by after the winding drive to join two other groups for a relaxed crowd free glimpse of the swath of Honolulu. Entry is free and parking is a breeze, its a pretty great spot to get a handle on how large the city is.

This is my first time to go there. The view is magnificent and breathtaking. Hawaii is so beautiful. The ride is easy and a lot of houses were built along the way up. The elevation is so high that you will appreciate the nature. The Diamond Head Crater and the Waikiki high rise. It’s an amazing place to be when you visit Hawaii!

Great place for watching the sunset. Don't forget to stay a bit after when it gets dark to see all the city lights! Also, there is a nice green lawn to have a picnic on.

Read that this was THE place to catch a sunset in Oahu, and buy was that spot-on advice! Stunning views of the south side if the island from Diamond Head all the way past the airport. Parking cane be tight so recommend just bringing a picnic dinner, a blanket for the grassy knoll, and coming a bit earlier. Don't rush off after sunset - the city lights are equally spectacular!

Discovering the Tantalus Lookout at Puu Ualakaa State Park was like stumbling upon a hidden realm of natural wonder that feels worlds away from the city below. As I ascended the winding road, the anticipation built, and upon reaching the lookout, I was greeted by a panoramic spectacle that left me utterly speechless. The city of Honolulu spread out before me, framed by a lush and vibrant tropical landscape that seemed to stretch to the horizon. The refreshing breeze and the symphony of birdsong added to the sense of serenity that enveloped the area. The Puu Ualakaa State Park truly offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing you to soak in the beauty of Oahu from a privileged vantage point. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, this lookout is a testament to the island’s stunning topography and an invitation to embrace a moment of peaceful reflection amidst the beauty of nature. Don’t miss the chance to witness this enchanting view that captures the heart and soul of Hawaii

The view is breathtaking. There was only 7 people there when we went. The viewpoint is maybe 30ft from the parking lot, so no hiking required. There was a security officer there, so we felt pretty safe. Doesn't cost money, Doesn't require a reservation. There's a picnic area back up the road. I actually liked this more than Diamond Head.

Gorgeous overlook with great views of the city. You can drive up to the top and walk a small trail if you want, or go straight to the lookout point. It's a popular place to see rainbows and we got some great pictures. Definitely go at sunset and just take it all in.

We needed a place to spend some time before heading to the airport. This was a great place to go get some amazing views of the city and diamond head. You could really see the crater. We did t do the nature walk but for some amazing views and a few minutes to spare. This is a great place to visit.

The view is simply stunning! From this point you can see the island of O'ahu from a very high point. And looking out from here you can see so much of the natural beauty that is the Hawaiian Islands. The cities and buildings mix in well with the view to give a stunning view of how civilization can mix well with nature. I highly recommend taking this path and getting a look at the view in person, you will not be disappointed!

Spectacular view of diamond head, waikiki and the ocean beyond. We were able to see the neighboring island Molokai off in the distance and to far left.

The best view of Honolulu. From there, you can see the whole city from Diamond Head to the airport. The view is the perfect reward after you hiked the whole way up there, but if you're not a hiker it is perfectly accessible with a car.

Beautiful views of Honolulu and Oahu at large! Accessible by vehicle and hiking, the lookout offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. There are some very nice hikes nearby featuring a cozy, tropical jungle foliage. There are no bathrooms or picnic tables here, though there is a mowed lawn area that is free for people to hang out.

Great view. Limited parking depends on when you visit. The restroom is available but not the best.

Great views from this point of the city. The state park is a small park but beautiful, and you would enjoy exquisite views of the city and the Pacific, too. The sign board suggested that cars get broken into at this place and keep an eye on your stuff, but when we visited, we did not experience anything like that. But who knows, maybe someone did, we were lucky though.

One of my favorite views of the island, you see all the way from Diamond head to the west side! Beautiful scenic drive up and convenient parking for the picnic area, bathrooms or lookout. It is a very high theft area, recommend going with an empty car and leaving it unlocked.

This is a gorgeous lookout! We went on a weekday. Parking was easy and grounds were well maintained. One of my new favorite spots on the island!

  • 5/5 Ashley P. 2 years ago on Google
Easy to find on the way back from Pearl Harbor before returning to Waikiki. Drive slowly up, lots of sharp turns. There were very few people there and lots of opportunities to take pictures. Looks like there were bathrooms and a nice picnic area as well!

  • 5/5 Maggie K. 2 years ago on Google
The parking lot wasn't crowded (apparently it is a high theft area, but we were the only people there). There is a really nice view of the city, ocean, and Diamond Head crater. There is no entrance fee nor parking fee. It's definitely worth coming here for the views, and the drive up to the park is beautiful as well.
