TLA Rates (Military) equal sub-par rooms that is based on photos from rooms not on the second floor, as seen in past reviews. If you like homeless, druggies near your domain...The rooms are very outdated, old carpeting in pet used rooms. Hospitality is lacking. I gave it an extra star based on being centrally located to shops, restaurants, bars, and beach. The price is not worth the accommodation but pays for the amenities of being near things. Under COVID conditions, not worth the stay. The place is somewhat safe and alot of police in that area. Laundry will run you $2.75 a washer and dryer is $.25 every 4 minutes...took me $10 for 2 loads, weekly, 2 people.

Review 09/2023 - 6-story, 1960s apartment building overlooks the Ala Wai Canal and is a 10-minute walk to Waikiki Beach - nice mountain/canal area views - elevator access only with room keycard (no air ventilation, inside are papers with some hotel instructions) - 2 entrances : main entrance from Ala Wai Blvd & secondary one from Nohonani St => mornings( around sunrise time) are very nosy - accommodation extra charges&fees: 10.25% Tax US$ 32 Property service charge/night (=30$/night) 0.50% local council tax 3% government tax 4.21% City tax - check-in appointments : upon arrival in the building , it's required to call a phone no., to actually reach the owner (instruction papers are glued to the reception window/door) - reception : empty&closed/not functional all day long (owner/staff is reachable only via phone - clean towels, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, boogie boards etc.) - didn't appreciate the so-called welcoming : no introduction, no hello/welcome etc. (got instead : " first of all let's start with your IDs..."), every instruction about hotel/room/cleaning etc. is done verbally (memory game/test all after a long flight...) - the building, elevator & parts in the room are embellished with different murals on the ceiling and colorful paper-wall - room: * old and out-dated furniture&appliances * overall, clean and maintained to function * small bathroom with no air ventilation (free toiletries and extra towels) * no extra pillows * WIFI totally unreliable and mostly non-existing * not all windows open properly (struggled with the manually odd&old mechanism) * nice views from the balcony * kitchen had all the necessary utensils

For the relative price compared to other hotels in the area, I got a very nice room for an extended stay. The room service was great. The manager was great to work with through my circumstances of constantly swapping through rental vehicles with the parking. I had no issues with any of the appliances or bugs or anything of the sort. Only issue I could say is that the mattress was absolute trash. It was old and I could feel every spring poking through it and I woke up every day with my back and shoulders hurting. Also, the wifi was a little bit unstable and slow speed. I got a better connection using my cellular internet. TLDR, the service was great. The mattress and the wifi sucked. But for the price, it was a good value.

This was the best place for my first time in Hawaii! The staff was really nice and convenient everything is around the area and parking prices were not bad at all. It was a great place to stay and the inside was really nice and clean. They check on you and make sure you’re stocked up while you stay and I just loved it here! I 100% recommend this place! 😊

Cute little cozy place to stay at an affordable Hawaiian price. The rooms had everything I needed and the staff was very accomodating and friendly. I would definitely stay here again!

I loved this hotel, until bill time came. Too many inconsistencies to ignore. 35 dollar hotel service charge? The only information I was given about that is it was for things that would be free in every other hotel. Use of the room phone? That was it, then subject change. Was treated poorly by all staff. Asked for maid service, they didn't change the sheets. How can I give positive feedback after that? At least i gave 2 starts instead of one.

For those, like us, who'd never been to Honolulu, you may be shocked at how dated most buildings are. Importing almost ALL building materials (and everything else too!) makes renovating cost-prohibitive. So this hotel is a bit dated, but they've painted adorable murals on the ceiling that make it so sweet. It was very clean and the management were incredibly helpful as our flight arrived in the early hours of the morning. They let us check in early and grab some much needed sleep. It's in a fantastic location, 5-10 minutes walk from everything cool in Waikiki.

It is not a hotel but a railway station! It was so loud all night that we couldn’t sleep at all. Some people were walking through corridor shouting, talking and shutting the doors or burping which was disgusting. The hotel staff didn’t react and even more – they were participating in this corridor party! They barely knew how to check in the guests which took ages. The place is smelly, scruffy and dirty. The worst thing are the sheets which were totally wet probably because of high humidity but it’s not normal to sleep a in wet bed. It was the worst accommodation l remember.

Very close to the beach , the price is very good , staff was amazing , rooms are clean and very well organized . An amazing place to stay .

Back is July 2022, I made a booking for Surf Hotel through Agoda booking company. The reservation was canceled a week in advance and they still charged me $261 for it. A month later I was charged again and was told I had to pay for the total amount of over a thousand dollars and yet we never stayed at the hotel. I got no statement or anything about the charges. False advertisement and fraud!

They cancelled our reservation a week before the flight when we were already abroad, and they haven’t given us our money back! No contact with the hotel they don’t respond our e-mails. I’m sure we lost our money. The only good thing is that this place has so many bad comments about the dirt and service that maybe we avoided sleeping with cockroaches!

Really old and used place which doesn’t look even like the photos. Nobody changed our towels or cleaned anything during our one week stay. But the most irritating were air-conditioner which got broken every day and unpleasant smell all around the hotel.

My husband and I spend 3 beautiful weeks July 31- August 19 at this very clean, cute hotel by the canal in Waikiki! It is literally a 5-10min straight line down to the famous Waikiki beach and has the most famous Udon noodle place at the corner! If you are looking for a great place to stay that is affordable, clean and close to everything, I HIGHLY recommend you stay here! The owner, Patrick, is there to help with anything and everything to make sure your stay is great! I will 100% be staying again in 2023 and have recommended this hotel to all my Canadian friends and family!

We really enjoyed our stay at Holiday Surf Hotel. Location was perfect, close to the beach and very close to bus stops. Room was recently remodeled and set up very conveniently. Kitchen had all the necessary utensils which allowed us to cook from time to time during our stay. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. We will definitely stay again at this hotel when we go back to Hawaii.

My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Surf Hotel from July 31- August 19. I loved staying here!! It was a straight line walk of 5-10 min to Waikiki beach and in front of the canal with beautiful mountain views! Great location and close to everything! This hotel was cute and very clean and most of all safe! Doors were locked and only can come in with a key! Owner, Patrick is very kind and helpful! I already recommended this hotel to all my Canadian friends and family and will definitely be staying there again at my next visit to beautiful Oahu in 2023! If you’re looking for a very clean, nice, safe and close to everything hotel that is at an amazing price, don’t look anywhere else, book the holiday surf hotel!

COCKROACHES IN THE ROOM! Stay away from this place! It is so run-down and the staff don’t care about keeping it clean. As a result, we found couple cockroaches in our room and bathroom that was really disgusting!

Given the price the hotel is great. Rooms are clean and the staff is very helpful and accommodating. Location was perfect for us, close to shops, restaurants and transportation.

CHOOSE HERE! BUDGET ACCOMMODATION & HOLIDAY at its best! Yours sincerely a very experienced traveller. Super friendly staff and super attentive. The rooms are perfect for a long or short stay. Do not judge a book by its cover or price. We were able to stay as a family and avoid hefty costs dining out day and night with our fridge, stove, oven. They provided us with everything our hearts desired for the beach too from mats and towels to boogie boards, anything you need is included: FREE! Beds are comfy, setup is perfect. The only thing that annoyed me was I couldn’t smoke on our perfectly situated room verandah (but hey, you can’t have everything). Settle in to Hawaii here. You won’t regret it! Low priced and best served. I don’t give 5 stars often unless it’s a 5 star motel. This is 5 stars for all round perfection!

Amazing staff!! Great view of the mountains and water off the canal with a large mini kitchen and lots of space. Big closet and big shower. We were two sisters and my 7 yr old niece. They lent us everything we could possibly need during our stay! For both the beach and for the room. Chairs, umbrellas, towels, laundry, dishwashing . Would come back ! Again, great staff, so accommodating and kind.
