This was probably the worst hostel I have gone to in Honolulu. Yes, it is very clean But the rooms are deathly hot, no alcohol allowed!! Wifi only in the ONLY common area, which is the kitchen. I think the thing that really ruin my experience was the two staff. I tried so hard to make conversation, but they are the most rude, anti-social people I ever met. Very strict and can't break a smile. Honestly its a huge buzz kill. Not worth the money, you can go to cheaper better hostels. My advice is go to The Beach boutique hostel. Free breakfast,a.c and wifi in rooms.

LATEST NEWS: This hostel is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is not known when or if it will reopen. Instead, check nearby the Polynesian Hostel on Lemon Rd or The Beach Waikiki Boutique Hostel at 2569 Cartwright Rd. At currently $33 per night, HI Honolulu is actually the cheapest bed you can find in Honolulu these days. Cheapness comes with its costs, however. The hostel is very strict about outsiders coming in. You can be kicked out for letting a non-guest into the hostel without asking first. There is absolutely no tobacco or alcohol allowed on the premises. If you lose the key, it will cost $250 as a penalty and replacement. That being said, it has a great location in the heart of Waikiki and there is the downtown branch of Alamo rental cars very near, as well as a grocery store just a few blocks away on Kūhiō. It has a well-equipped kitchen and a modestly large dining / relaxation area with TV, book corner, and restroom. The owner also acts as manager and handyman, although there are a few reception staffers who rotate duty. The rooms are fairly standard; there are very small lockers in the rooms, but you must have your own padlock. The bathroom was very clean and they strive to keep them that way, enlisting the guests to do their part. They provide a bath towel upon arrival, but the bunk bed is already made when you arrive — a nice little touch. They also can loan you beach towels and beach accessories. Overall, it was a nice place With a good price, although I had a street-facing room and Honolulu can be very noisy at all times of day and night. They also have a second hostel near the University of Hawaii Manoa campus, which should be much quieter.

I stayed here last year and it was horrible. My first night I witnessed some kid getting kicked out after midnight because the Asian guy in charge caught him sitting on an empty bed 'you ruined the bed, I have to make it again'... He litterally got kicked out. No aircon. Good location. I would expect that the dude in charge is the owner because employed staff would never be allowed to act like that. Very uncomfortable stay.

I enjoyed my stay at the Hosteling Waikiki despite the limitations it had. It is literally just 1 or 2 streets from the beach and the hostel had decent gear you can borrow. Paul even offers the use of beach towels to help keep your gear clean. While the hostel has strict rules those were not a problem. Good: 1. Close to the beach 2. Rooms are clean and orderly, with lockers. Bring your own locks. 3. Has snorkeling gear and beach towels to borrow. 4. Paul gives great advice on how to make your visit to Oahu a great one. 5. Great rates 6. ABC Convenience store close by (2 blocks away). Safeway (grocery store-0.8 miles) is cheaper. 7.No smoking or drinking on premises. 8. No outsiders allowed. If your friends don't stay there, they stand outside. Bad: 1. What was a problem is that you can only check-in during a certain time in the morning from 7-12 or 7AM- 1PM. I arrived after 1 and had to then take my car, my luggage elsewhere for 2-3 hours to come back. I would have preferred to leave my bags and then leave in the car. 2. The next big problem is what i consider false advertising. The website says parking available @10$ a day. Even though there were multiple spots available, i was denied their use and had to walk 1 mile each way to park the car and then leave early every day to move the car. And this was on 4 consecutive nights. I could see empty spots in the parking lot every night and day. Parking elsewhere costs at least 20-40$ a day. 3. The kitchen is closed at night around 11:30 PM and opens at 7 AM. So you can't go grab a snack or use the microwave or watch TV or read a book in the hostel. That sucks big time. 4. Wifi doesn't work. 5. No ceiling fans, but wall mounted table fans. Some work and swivel great. The one in our room was stuck. So it will get extremely hot in the day and cool with a breeze at night. Recommendations: If you are ok with the strict restrictions, lack of parking then it's a great place. Else, go somewhere else.

If you want a PRISON getaway, this is your place. The manager walks into the room while you sleep to make sure rules are being followed. We paid for three beds and our extra friend wasn't even allowed up to reception or to use the bathroom. The parking is a pain and isn't always available. I'm pretty sure they post fake reviews to increase their rating. Only upside is it was cheap.

Very clean and safe. Good kitchen except no oven. Free beach towel hire and can borrow snorkel and other beach accessories for free. Cheap laundry too. Excellent location - most central Waikiki backpackers.

The rooms are simple and look old. There is no WiFi in the rooms and even in the common area, it doesn't work that well (and the common area closes at 11:30pm). Moreover there is no AC in the rooms either, it is cooler outside than inside and the fan is quite noisy. Reception closes from noon to 3pm, which is really inconvenient. We were warned from the start by the staff that the manager was very strict and stingy. I guess all these rules affect the guests because the atmosphere is quite weird, it felt like noone really wouldn't to be there. Spend the extra dollara and get a room at the Beach Boutique, it is really worth it!

The place is really close to the beach. However, the rooms are really close to a lot of the noise as well, very easy to wake up in the middle of the night due to the noises in the area. Rooms are clean, owner is kind of a crab. But I guess that’s from dealing with all the riff raft that comes through this place. Also no outlets near the upper beds on bunk beds so request a lower bed when you reserve.

Hostel room was pretty average. But the ability to hire snorkel stuff free of charge was good. Staff took themselves a little too seriously and came across as a bit rude. Some miscommunication meant when I thought there was a lot of availability one night I left extending my stay for the best part of the day. I was told later that there had only been one space left and someone else had booked it so I needed to make alternate arrangements in an unapologetic manner.

The owner of this hostel was very helpful and friendly. The private room I stayed in was pretty spartan, but it was clean and comfortable. Two fans were provided for free, as were beach towels and snorkel gear. There was also a kitchen available with a fridge.

Very good location. A few meters from the beach. I stayed for a week and then I went to an apartment on Nahua St.
