Although the line was long down the street corner, it went through very quickly (30 mins) , there are staff cleaning and organizing tables, so it's not like people would fight for one. I'm not a big fan of thick noodle but I do enjoy it along with their light broth, it was so comfort. We get to pick out our own tempura and how many we want them.

For starters, this place has a long line out the door almost every night. Fortunately, it moves relatively quickly. The bowls of ramen are fairly priced and all include house-made noodles! The broths were flavorful and the serving sizes were generous. The tempura was alright. Nothing to really write home about. I did enjoy all of their tempura options (chicken, zucchini, sweet potato, mushroom, etc.). If you’re itching for some noodles, you can’t go wrong with this place - as long as you’re willing to wait.

I tried Japanese noodles for the first time and totally loved it. Long wait worth it. This place is always busy which proves how good the food really is. Tempura shrimps, fried fish and veggie fried ball as a side order was a nice combination. The wait is long but service is super fast. One of unique taste!

Best meal we had in Oahu. The Udon is amazing. We loved it so much we ate here twice. Don’t be discouraged by the long line as it tends to move pretty quickly. Everyone seemed to be able to find table seating too, so don’t worry about that either. Highly recommend!

Someone leaned over in line and said “We ate here yesterday, it is worth the wait” And no joke… wait in the line. Just do it. The food is amazing and very affordable. The employees work very hard to move the line fast and they split the tips, so please tip generously!

First off and possibly most important, do not let the long lines scare you. Most people don’t know this but you can order your food online and pick it up at the back door. That’s what we did and the whole process took about 10 minutes. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and worth every penny. Thank you chef!! 心から本当にありがとうございます

Nice udon and finally found a vegan version 💪 love that they have vegan options And that it is so affordable with only 8.95$ for the small one (which is plenty). The broth has no veg only noodles and tofu crumbs which is a bit disappointing Also it is quite popular so you will have to wait in line - which is fine though. Only thing is that it is more like a diner - so it’s quite hectic inside. They have tempura which is nice and also some spices to add some chili and so on.

Food: amazing Setting: pleasant Time: short wait Presentation: buffet Service: just ok Grabbed a quick lunch here. If you read our other reviews you will notice that we grab a little of everything. We got four soups with noodles and pretty much all the sides. Recommendation: get noodles, they are amazing! Second recommendation: we loved all the tempura. Wait was about 20 minutes at 4pm on a Saturday. The only thing we didn’t like was the cleaning lady yelled at us in Japanese. We didn’t make a mess and we bussed our own table. There is no wait staff but we tipped anyhow. Maybe she was having a bad day? Everything else was great. Might go back tomorrow. :)

Looking for Udon in Waikiki, be prepared to wait in line at this spot. This location is a popular, udon noodles are made fresh along with several options for deep-fried sides. The bowls were not bad, is it worth the wait in the 30-45min line....No... but there are time when they are less busy....I recommend that. The staff is super friendly and helpful.

Marugame Udon is fun and lively like an Asian market or food hall. Expect a long line for dinner but note it moves fast. Their sweet beef udon is delicious and authentic and pairs well with some of their various tempura options which I had to try them all! Service is excellent too but if you have a group of greater than 4 the seating may be difficult. Check them out!

After the pandemic, the quality of food still the same as before. Line up look long but actually not that bad, our wait is around 25mins on a Tuesday. Udon is chewy and the broth is spot on. Love it. The tempura selections increased the price a bit but still acceptable. Portion is generous. Worth the wait and your money.

If I could give zero stars I would. The waiter who was cleaning tables basically kicked us out after we finished eating. He had another group of people who wanted to sit down and he needed our table. Literally 30 seconds after we finished eating he took our plates and asked us to leave. Horrible service and so rude. They’re just trying to shuttle people in and out of the restaurant and they don’t care about customer service. I will never come back her because the food also I won’t worth the terrible service. The curry was salty and had literally zero meat. And I ordered a large and it came out 2/3 full and was only noodles and sauce. Flavor was salty and basic. The beef soup was saltier but at least had meat. The tempura was ok, nothing special. I’ve had similar tasting tempura in my hometown in Arizona.

First time having udon, and now it’s one of my favorite foods! This place runs like a well-oiled machine. You should order ahead of time online if you want take-out so you can skip the line. The line for dining in moves pretty quickly but it can get very long. But it’s well-worth the wait! The food is amazing!

Great food but in high demand, go early. There is a chance you will wait in line outside if you go after 5 pm. It’s cool to watch the noodles being made in from of you! Seating is a premium so stake your claim early, there is an outside area for seating as well. Food was amazing, one of our best meals on the island.

Its hard to describe how good they are. The food it’s delicious, i never try something like that! The wait line was about ~25-30 minutes, but it’s worth it. Everything its so fresh and tasty. We took Curry Nikutama and we was so satisfied. Definitely will come there again when will be back.

If you are looking for an inexpensive meal in Hawaii, well you are at a right place. However, be prepared to wait. The line wraps around the corner on daily basis. This was my first true experience with Japanese cuisine. We had a few things, including chicken, which was much better than teriyaki beef, so much so that I couldn’t tell it was beef meat at all. Noodles combined with sauce were good. There is limited space inside, I sat at one of the booths just to be told that I have to get up and can’t sit there. There were no signs and lady’s English was not that good, so I got up and found the seat outside in the back. It was a good thing to try and kinda cool to look at employees creating meals and noodles from scratch.

This place has great udon noodle themed foods with a decent amount of variety. It’s a pick your items type of restaurant where you tell them what you want and they put it together for you. Fairly priced. The line for lunch and dinner can get somewhat long, however it moves fairly quick. Indoor seating and some tables outside.

The food was excellent! Easy to notice that this place is popular from the lines extending to the end of the block. Fortunately, everything moves extremely quickly inside the restaurant so the lines moves fast as well. You order as soon as you walk in, take whatever sides/drinks you want, pay and find a seat yourself. There is really no other service beyond this. One major drawback for me was that the restaurant did not have a restroom. And I did not see a hand sanitizer station either. Apart from that, the food was excellent and worth the wait in my opinion.

As everyone has mentioned, definitely lives up to the hype! Super super delicious! Food is made right in front of you and you grab whatever small bites you want. Food is very cheap and reasonably priced, but it can add up very quickly since everything looks so good! During dinner time, the line is wrapped outside the building. Although I hear it moves very fast. Best time to go would be in the morning, we went twice and there was no wait. There is not much seating, however. Definitely a must visit place if you're ever in the area! Extremely fulfilling! Wish there was some place similar back home.

I usually run from those touristic places, but this Udon place is amazing. Not sure if it is worth 1-2h in the line (we went at 3pm, with shorter line) but i would definitely take a 30-40min line for it. Good good for very fair price.

We truly love this place we went 2times already and will go back again soon. They're noodles is super chubby, chewy and soup broth is really tasty and good smell. Friendly staff, not super clean because they so busy but still ok. They're super popular with the long line for dinner time. ( If you go before 4:00pm will not that long line) So be patient! Then you will enjoy they food I guarantee!

Flavors are pretty good but meat quality is poor and 80% fat. Almost everything offered is fried and is way too heavy, assuming you want to do anything after, other than pass out. Good hangover food I guess. The noodles are too thick for my taste, but are made fresh onsite, which is awesome

I don't get too excited for udon but this place was so raved about so we had to check it out. The line everyday is almost out the door at all hours. However, at 10am to 11am is the best time to go for the shortest wait right before the lunch rush. We were able to come here twice without much wait. They have a good system to help the line go faster. It's a cafeteria style as you go through the line. The first step is letting the staff know which udon you want and it's quickly prepared. Grab a tray and put your udon on it and move along to all the tempura goodies. You can pick whichever tempura you like. They also served musubi that's ready to go. You pay at the end of the line. Get your utensils and sauces on your own and grab a seat anywhere. Inside is a bit small but they make the best of the space they have. The Nukutama udon and the Niku udon were both delicious. Very subtle and sweet taste. Portion was just right. The udon noodles were thick and chewy. I also love the shrimp, zucchini, veggie mixed, and sweet potato. Goes great with the udon and will fill you up. Everything was relatively a good price for really good quality. Definitely a good spot to hit up if you're in Waikiki.

On vacation and MU was on our bucket list. I had heard that the wait can be over 2 hours, so we decided to go at 5pm. We walked in with a 5 min wait and once in line to order, it went even faster. My husband and I ordered the Curry Nikutama with sweet beef. We absolutely loved it!! This is a must try when in Waikiki!!!

While the line is long from open to close, it moves very quickly. People normally get in and out to free up tables. The noodles are made from scratch with several choices to eat them. There’s a bunch of tempura options to enjoy on the side such as shrimp, sweet potatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, fish cakes, and many more. It’s a must when in Waikiki.

Very happy experience! Everyone commented that the waiting time was too long. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we went there at about 1: 30 noon. It took less than ten minutes from queuing to eating noodles. Great! After eating, you should clean up the table and put the dishes and garbage in the specified place. The price is very affordable, the quantity is sufficient, and the taste is good. It is completely open from processing to cooking noodles, which makes people feel at ease. When we came out, the queue was long again, haha! What a lucky time!

Absolutely love love love this place. I like that you can choose your base and that they have the ingredients listed so you know exactly what you're getting. After you choose your base and you see your noodles come out fresh and hot, you can choose from sides including chicken and crab and zucchini and all sorts of things. Lots of variety and pretty quick to get through the line. I will definitely be back

Probably the longest line I’ve waited in while visiting Oahu, and definitely worth the wait. The most comforting meal you could enjoy on the island! I tried the curry udon and it was exactly what I wanted. I do wish, when the bowl was served, the food would be hotter. By the time we were seated, the soup was quite lukewarm which took away from the enjoyment. But a large bowl was more than enough for 2 people to enjoy! Would wait 45 min again for this popular spot!

The line is worth the wait. Simple, tasty, and affordable food in Honolulu! On a Saturday night, the line wrapped around the block. It was a 20 min wait, which for Waikiki and no reservations was excellent. Everyone was concerned about seating, which was unfounded. Watching the noodles being made was an assurance of good quality. Lots of soup choices-spicy, sweet beef, soft boiled egg, etc. Our group tried 3 different soups. Tempura voices were over the top! Katsu chicken was amazingly moist and the crab tempura was done perfectly. Curry BBQ sauce was amazing, but the tempura sauce was only “all right”. There are free glasses of water as well as different sodas and traditional lime/lemon drinks. Seating rotated quickly as we found a booth as soon as we received our food. They have staff bussing the tables as diners finished. I highly recommend the Udon here, it’s worth the wait😎

You can choose between various broths and noodles, as well as tempuras, at very affordable prices despite how popular the area is. Arrive early because it is visited by many people and in the afternoon it may be that the pasta is finished because everything is done at the moment. Absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Awesome udon place. This shop has mastered the art of marketing. How can anyone resist the temptation when you walk past the “fry row”? The fried chicken, various tempuras and all the sides are just mouthwatering under the lights. Get ready for a food coma.

Our favorite Udon place. Fresh noodles and lots of options, pretty authentic Japanese street food. Oh and the best part... A family of 3 can eat for less than $20! There’s street parking which can be tough in Waiks but bus #2 will drop you off right out front. It does get packed during lunch and dinner time so either expect to wait in a line that wraps around the corner or plan to go at another time.

The food was fantastic, the speed the food made it out was absolutely superb. The only complaint is how hard it is to hear the person taking your order, because of how loud it is by the kitchen. I would reccomend coming here. Also, don't be perturbed by the line, it goes very fast!!

Amazing udon in the heart of Waikiki. This place is awesome, food is great and reasonably priced. Udon is made fresh right in front of you and the tempura is also made fresh. Don't be turned off by the line, it goes quick. Whenever I'm staying in the area I find myself here multiple times. Cost for 2 people including drinks was about $45, hard to beat in Waikiki. Do yourself a favor and make your way there!

I’ve been here many years ago and come back to this original udon shop. Quality and taste is all still there and affordable. Delicious, fresh udon, and solid grab for a meal. Tempura as a side with the noodles, is nice too.

  • 5/5 Peter F. 4 months ago on Google
This to me is and always be the original Marugame Udon and tastes a little bit more special than the ones we have in the Bay Area. The line also tells the same story as each day lots of people wait on the sidewalk to get their own bowl of udon noodles. You can’t go wrong with any option but the Nikutama is my favorite every time. All the tempura is tasty so grab a few that appeal to you. Prices here are also one of the benefits as it is all affordable. Overall, it’s worth the troubles as the noodles are so chewy, the broth umami, and the add ins the right complement to the meal.

  • 5/5 Noah W. 3 years ago on Google
Delish Japanese food for reasonable prices—prepare for a long line and fast service. Tempura bar is average but udon is impressive. If you want cheap eats, this is your place!

THE BEST Udon I’ve ever had! The chicken salad was awesome too. All tempura is fried to perfection. The food is prepared cafeteria style, so there is no servers and no wait, all is done on the fly by the fleet of cooks. 30min in and out, amazing food, the place lives up to its hype.

I keep going back here because it’s so good yet so affordable! I don’t eat a lot so a regular size udon is more than enough to fill me up. Otherwise a regular size udon plus one tempura should fill you, and that’d cost about $12 tops. Cold Nikutama is always my to go, and chicken and shrimp tempuras are both insanely good. Would not recommend crabmeat tempura though.

#1,4,8,10. These are what we ordered. It is best to go around 2-4pm to avoid the line. We thought the noodles itself was great— very chewy and had a great bite. The soup base however was just okay. It gets saltier as you eat/ drink the soup. The fried food was pretty good! I like soaking mine in the soup while my parents enjoy filling it in the tempura sauce. We really enjoyed the calamari, shrimp, and sweet potato. Everything else can be skipped in my opinion.
