Nice quiet beach. You can see Honolulu from the side, along with boat and airplanes. Not crowded like most other beaches. The beach has a nice long walk. Just remember to lock your car doors. There are some homeless people there. Fishermans go there to fish, and they keep to themselves. Nice friendly stray cats around the area too.

Decent little beach located on the south end of Sand Island. Lots of history down in this area. There are also local fishermen, homeless, and stray cats. Most of which kind their own but some of the cats enjoy attention. As for the beach itself, there are a good amount of rocks surrounding that fend off the larger waves, making this location good for snorkeling. There is a good amount of coral that comes and goes with the tide so some reef shoes would be helpful but are not completely necessary. All in all, itโ€™s a nice place to get away.

From Sand Island Beach you can enjoy awesome views of Diamond Head Waikiki Beach and the Honolulu International Airport. There are many low-flying airplanes and helicopters of which you'll get up-close views, you'll also see many incoming freight and passenger ships and often times even big cruise ships that anchor right there in the harbor. Sand Island used to be an important location for coastal defense in World War II. The deserted lookout towers and bunkers that are still here today are remnants of this time. They make for an almost surreal contrast to the grassy areas, swinging palm trees and the blue waters of the Pacific. The long, sandy beach is never crowded and the beach park is a good place for picnics. Camping is also possible here Fridays through Mondays, but only with a permit. More info on how to get a permit is here. The swimming conditions are fair, due to rocks in the water and the fact that Sand Island is near a busy harbor and underground sewer canals. Swimming is also limited to certain areas and not allowed in the harbor shipping lanes. However, fishing is good and you'll see many local fishermen trying their luck. Surfing is also possible; the waves are best in the summer months. No lifeguards are stationed on Sand Island.

A quiet little cove of a beach. On a flat day it is a fun spot for not the typical snorkeling. Lots of unique endemic critters to be found there. Further to the right of the swells are good there is decent surfing. There is also a great coral restoration project being worked on out past the break walls. Sadly LOTS of fishing line on the coral and fishing lead. Local heavy on the weekends. Porta Jonโ€™s only. No showers.

This beach is very good for your last day in Honolulu cause it is right by the airport and there are usually 0-10 people at the beach so itโ€™s never crowded like Waikiki so itโ€™s a great place to go especially if your about to fly out of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

This place is nice for hikes and to hang at a beach that isnโ€™t very crowded. They have a place for chess tournaments. There were a lot of folks playing frisbee golf. The only reason I give a 4 star is because all the structures are just rotting away including the bathrooms. They have set up port a potties outside these amazingly built bathrooms. Itโ€™s sad to see the funding isnโ€™t there to fix some of the stuff thatโ€™s broken at this park. Not much shade unless you sit under the chess pavilion. Also this place makes you want to look up itโ€™s history as it has this layout that is so strange and old building. Thereโ€™s a thing called the sand park stop and it looks like a bench for a train platform. Thereโ€™s random huge cement blocks in the way some of the paths and huge boulders around others. I need to find out why because most those were just so odd and so outta place. Definitely would suggest for a sunny walk.

This is a great beach if you're looking to get away from crowds. I have only visited during weekdays and I have had the beach to myself almost every time. Its very peaceful there. You can find neat shells and sea glass here when the waves are high. My only complaint is it is a little smelly in some areas.

Nice access to swimming and fishing. A bit run down. Could use a make over. Some shady people. But what's there is maintained pretty well.

Gotta say it was a weird place. Drive through an industrial area to get to a beach that's blocked off from waves for the most part. If you want a quiet spot with nearly no one around then this is it. Looks like there are a lot of camping spots, but idk why you would want to camp here. I don't know, it just wasn't my vibe I guess.

Not much to do here but there's always a nice breeze. The beach is full of washed up Coral ๐Ÿชธ which is a little sad that it's dying. Lots of picnic benches, bathrooms are closed down but there's a port-a- potty. Good spot for fishing and there is a spout to wash off.

Just needs more water to feed da grass, but well kept park ,besides the bathroom being close and only porta pottie its a hidden gem. Next to the first jetty is a cherry spot with a mini rocky/sandy Beach and sick surf when swells hit with small crowds.

Quiet, large beach with lots of tables, chairs, and great sand for swimming. Water was not working when we were here. Hard to get to as well, but that leads to fewer people on the beach. Would happily come here for a picnic or swim.

Place has massive amounts of potential, but the park is in a serious state of disrepair. Many of the pavilions have loose or even partially missing metal roofs, restrooms are closed or disgusting, and the roads have pot holes that could bottm out small cars. The ww2 tower is probably the worst fail of all. Hawaii, you can do better than this...

Had a few hours to kill before my flight after dropping off my niece so decided to get a yummy Foodland Supermarket Poke Bowl and dine AL Fresco at this nearby beach. It's a nice change from crowded Waikiki beaches, plus free entrance & plenty of parking. As a bonus I found some sea glass and saw a beautiful rainbow!

My pooch and i went, it's a little Rocky in the water but it was really nice we enjoyed ourselves. The beach It's self is a little at a slant, which I thought was interesting, and the sand is like millions of tiny shells I'm guessing. We're also from Arizona so don't know too much about beaches, but blessed none the less.

The beach was pretty good overall, I did notice the large amount of homelessness. The trash cans looked empty. I did witness a nudist couple swimming. Nice quiet place to watch the ships come in.

Our taxi driver took us there as a little-known spot. It's a great place with a nice view of Diamond Head. There were also a lot of stray cats around!

๐Ÿ‘ Great place to surf mid spring. Paddle boarding is also great. Life guard is on duty. Also fun for the kids to bring their body board on the shore break.
