I really like their menu options! And decent prices, but certain dishes may seem a little under-seasoned. Not the best outdoor seating, but it's still a solid place! Try the ice cream slush it's yummy!

Overall was a really good place to get cheap tasty dinner!! No drive in service anymore but the service was straight forward - walk up to the window and order then it’ll be called out when it’s ready. The lady who took our order wasn’t the friendliest but it took no longer than 10 minutes to get out food. I had one of the specials ( chopped steak plate ) and my husband had the loco moco plate. Both were super delicious. There were some table on both sides of the building to sit down and eat there or you could get your food to go. We ate there and sat at the picnic tables. There were tons of pigeons and other various birds all around the tables. We even had one bird steal food right off of our plate!! They had a nice little area where you could get knickknacks and shirts too!

Popular tourist spot, but was unfortunately let down. Feel rude giving it only 2 stars but man…the food was bland. Could find an equal or better loco moco anywhere that sells them. Canned gravy. Chili dog was alright. I won’t hold the pigeons against them but I do wonder why they are so friendly to them. Service was rough too, but there reputation deserves another shot so I’ll have to come back. Try other food options… Oh and the cheese fries, which I was told while getting my food would be a longer wait….I was shocked at what I waited an extra 15 minutes for, was honestly funny at that point. Ain’t no way they had me wait specifically for the cheese fries only, just to just throw a slice of cheese on top of them before giving them to me. Feels satirical.

If you want to eat like a local come here!! The chicken is delicious and the portions are huge!! Great bang for your buck. I always come here on my Hawaii vacations. Only downside- they charge for water cup and they charge for extra paper plates to share.

Inexpensive, tasty food at this iconic, Honolulu classic eatery. Definitely try the chili and the mix plate. Have a slush float as well 😋. Good advice is to place an order through their website so you don't have to wait too long when arriving.

08/31/2022: First visit and I loved it! Wonderful spot frequented by both tourists and the locals. The food didn't disappoint. If you're looking for authentic Hawaiian plate lunch, go to Rainbow Drive-In! You get a hearty, tasty plate at a very reasonable price.

not healthy. at all. tried moco loco, which is rice with a hamburger, gravy, and a fried egg on top. it was heavy. I didn't like the gravy, it tasted fake. my hubby got chicken and it had a nice ginger sauce on it. we also tried the slushy float, which was shaved ice with strawberry syrup, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I thought the slushy float was nasty (but I think anything with red dye, corn syrup and artificial flavor is nasty so that's just me.) it was also weird to me to mix ice with cream. they said there was salad on the plate, so I got that instead of a smaller bowl. turns out the salad was some nasty mayonnaise covered macaroni. definitely not green and definitely not healthy. I felt really full and disgusting after, I would not go back-- but the ambiance was really fun and retro and I like the drive-in vibe of the place. for that reason I'm glad we went, but the food was not nutritious or satisfying.

Really good local spot. It's not fancy at all but the food is very very good. There is ample parking 🅿️ there and they have picnic tables for you. Their are two lines to order. Their mixed grill is nice with fish 🐠 pork and beef. The fish was super nice and moist. The beef was greatest thing it was thinley sliced but not dry at all it was super moist and flavorful. The loco Moco is really good as well.

Great local dishes sure to fill your belly. Might be the best loco moco in town. They sell out of their daily specials every day so get them if they’re available. I always get a slush float -strawberry slushy with vanilla ice cream- as a sweet treat.

My friends and I just landed in Hawaii and couldn't check in to the hotel yet. So we went here cause it was highly recommended and very close to our hotel. It was our first meal in Hawaii and it didn't disappoint! I ordered the loco moco plate! I love anything with gravy so whenever I see a loco moco anywhere, I go for it! This one in particular had very tasty gravy! The egg was cooked perfectly and the burger patties were seasoned nicely! The mac salad on the side also really impressed me! My buddy got the mixed plate! He was happy with what he got! The beef was marinated well and the fish was crispy! The chicken really impressed him! He also got a bowl of chili on the side. It was full of beefy flavor and you can taste all the different spices that went into it! I can't find any major complaints about eating here! The food was great and the service was friendly. Maybe the birds are a bit annoying but that's out of their control. I'd love to come back here and try more food!

Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Overall: Standard fare plate lunch place. The extended review... Food: Mix Plate - 3/5 - So this is where you can get a little bit of everything. It was a nice way to start out my trip and have a quick lunch. Taste was pretty standard fare. The good thing about this was the variety you get. Service: 3/5 - Standard service. Ambiance: 3/5 - Standard service.

We thought we were in for some great food because there was a good size line on a Saturday afternoon, but we were sorely disappointed. The line moved quickly, but the girl helping us wasn’t very friendly (yes, we knew what to order when it was our turn). We got our food pretty quick- a boneless chicken with gravy plate, a moco loco plate, and chili cheese fries. The portions are big- easily shareable between 2 people. Nothing had flavor. Nothing. It was comparable to cafeteria food. We can only assume this place is more for nostalgia than quality.

I feel bad giving such an iconic place 4* but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed my food that much. I got the mix plate which had beef, chicken, and fish. They gave a ton of chicken and barely any beef, but beef was by far the highlight and basically the only tasty meat of the 3. Chicken was dry and left a lot to be desired. Fish was very meh too. Quantity was huge for the price, but I did not want the leftovers once I finished because if really wasn't that good.

Today we experienced Rainbow Drive-In for the first time. This is a walk up window with outdoor seating only. This feels like a local vintage drive in type restaurant that retains that vintage charm. We ordered a double cheeseburger and a chili Dog with cheese and we each ordered small macaroni salad as our sides and two large cokes. Our total bill was just over $31. The Double Cheeseburger was just ok, not something I would order again nor would I recommend. It just tastes like low quality beef. The Hot Dog with chili and cheese was pretty tasty. The Macaroni Salad is quite creamy and tastes like it’s made with real mayonnaise only. This wasn’t our favorite as we enjoyed it more at Zippys. This is a charming local place that we are glad we experienced and will likely return to as they have a large menu that we would like to taste some other offerings.

We stopped to pick up a souvenir at the gift shop so I cannot speak of the food. The Drive-In has a small parking lot with outdoor (picnic table) seating. Restrooms are available for paying customers and there is a gift shop. The historic feel of this establishment is nice but I feel it is in need of some repairs / upkeep / rejuvenation. The menu has several food options that looked promising and it would be worth a try if we were to return. I believe this is more of a "locals" type of establishment and may not appeal to tourists looking for a five star meal.

This place is a must go to if you are in Oahu. It’s a little bit further inland from Waikiki but no more than a 10 minute walk from the main strip. The local Moco plate is definitely a must. It includes the macaroni salad, which is to die for. We also got the fish burger, which was basically a fish fillet but better. The seating area outside is pretty rough day, this is not a place that accepts reservations. I would probably recommend going off peak time to get the best experience will definitely be coming back.
