This was my first experience at a hostel and it was an interesting one. The first night I stayed here I had to share a room with an elderly man. When I woke up, his sheets were covered in blood and he checked out. I was definitely disturbed and staff was able to change my reservation to a private room. However, I do recommend Beachside if you are looking to meet new people from all over the world. It is also a short walk to the beach and a great location to explore.

I've stayed in many hostels and this was by far the most unclean and uncomfortable hostel I've stayed in so far. When you check in you are given "sheets" and a pillow case for your bed. The sheets are very thin but honestly that is not be a big deal because the AC is not in all rooms. Very small pillow. I booked a 4 person coed room which is essentially two rooms with a shared bathroom. The first room had an AC unit, the second room did not so if you got stuck in the second room you likely will be very hot because the AC doesn't circulate to the second room. The beds just cots with a mattress that make a loud scratching sound every time you move. My point is, the rooms do not look anything like the pictures on their website. Their website is not an accurate representation of the rooms. I voiced this complaint when I checked out and was told they would mention it to management. The hostel didn't plan any events during my stay and I was there Thursday-Sunday. I met some great people and the location was close to the beach but the sleeping accommodations and no social events are my two cons. If I return to Honolulu I will try a different hostel

Staff was not very friendly. Rooms have no AC, itā€™s super humid and hot in the rooms. No social activities, you canā€™t even sit with other travellers in the common area after 10pm. Bathrooms are not clean and super hot and humid as well, you canā€™t spent more then 5 min in there... Breakfast is a joke (toast, peanut butter and jam, thatā€™s it). One good thing: they rent out out surfboards for 10$/4 hours which is great!

During my stay the rooms were clean. The fridge had some food from people that left 2 weeks ago. The Beds offer minimum privacy. I was positively surprised by the fact that the 8 bed room is basically split into 2 rooms with 4 beds each. Being just 8 (4) people per room I didn't have trouble sleeping at night. Early in the morning it got very loud though through pedestrians and traffic outside (especially the daily waste collection) and through the fact that the window was constantly open. I'm also annoyed by the fact that you have to charge the phone on a desk on the other side of the room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also have a WhatsApp group where they posted current events and that helped meet other visitors. You have to use an app for room access (a pin also works, is pretty long though). I'd recommend downloading and creating account before your stay as it just drags the check in process

Stayed overnight till my friends could join me, not worth the price. Everyone was kind but u organized. People seem to keep to themselves but friendly. First hostel experience in a 6 person room, luckily I had just traveled 36 hours and fell right asleep. On a good note, didnā€™t realized me got lockers to store our things and mine were left out all day with a room full of strangers and everything was untouched. So kudos to my bunk mates and stay brief not worth any longer

This was a good hotel because location was close to good restaurants and not too far to walk to Waikiki beach. The breakfast was ok. Just peanut butter and bread plus couple of juice choice. The check in was great and quick. I did enjoy having roommates to meet people. The housekeeper was not great because she came in scold at me when my shoe was full of sand. Except me to clean up? Huh? Is this some sort joke???? I pay you to keep my room clean. You are too lazy then find a better job. It was nice they range shuttle ride to airport.

Incredible hostel, you get what you pay for for this one. The other hostel guests were all super cordial and friendly. The community kitchen is lacking as the advertised one doesn't really have all the amenities you'd hope for, which I think they should fix on the website because everything else about this hostel is fantastic. Super great about holding bags too if you arrive early or are departing before your flight time.

This place was one of the worst hostels Iā€™ve stayed in. My bathroom was covered in cockroaches. The lockers smell like urine. The people at reception are really young and fairly incompetent (and thereā€™s only 2 a day) and the desk is not open after midnight. The rooms are not clean at all and basic things like putting a liner in the trash can are ignored. There are also small holes in the corners of the wall that let bugs in. They advertise having a kitchen, but none of it works except the microwave. The beds are really loudā€”if the person in the top bunk moves, the entire bed shakes loudly. The bunks are also really short; you canā€™t sit up fully in the bottom bunk. Thereā€™s not a good hostel culture, especially because they donā€™t have a common room. They donā€™t have any perks like discounted tours with the hostel or free snorkeling gear and beach stuff like some of the other hostels in the area. The first floor is also a moped rental garage so when they open in the morning you can hear them teaching people how to use mopeds at 8:30am, making it impossible to sleep in if you want to. For the same price, you could stay in a great hostel in waikiki instead.

Affordable price, in front of the beach, convenient to the ABC store, good for walking early and at night, safe, close to cafes and restaurants, trolley rides, and the accommodation was clean and nice. The guests were very polite and turned off the lights at 10 o'clock and kept quiet. They made coffee at the hotel every morning at 6 o'clock, and it was really delicious. There are some inconveniences, but considering this price, I was satisfied and grateful for everything. Thank youšŸ©·

We arrived on a later flight and were looking forward to a comfy place to sleep. I knew we weren't checking into a 4 star hotel or anything, but I was hoping for something decent enough to get some sleep and relax. This was not the case. The blinds in our room were broken, the shower/bathroom looked dirty and dingy. The air conditioner, though thankful to have had something, barely cooled our room down. The beds were awful; we only received flat sheets to make them, there was only one, thin, lumpy pillow to sleep on and I could feel every single spring in that mattress. I didn't sleep that night, but made use of my time finding a nice hotel nearby to check into the next day. Luckily, we did get a full refund for the nights we were not staying, and they let us store our bags there for $5 each until check in time at the hotel we were moving to. For these reasons and the fact that the staff was really nice, I'm giving two stars. However I would not stay here again nor recommend this place to anyone. I know hostels are cheap and pretty bare bones, but this was officially my first experience with one. If they're all on this level, I'm going to steer clear.

Great amazing place to stay, if you are travelling on a limited budget. Nice, friendly and courteous Guest service agents. Would highly recommend this Hostel to anyone looking for the best place to stay on a small budget. Thank you to everyone in the Waikiki beachside hostel who have made this trip the most memorable experience.

Pros: comfy beds, kitchen is OK for simple cooking, free beach equipment (boogie boards, mats, chairs, floats etc), staff are friendly, few minute walk to waikiki beach and shops/restaurants, fridge/freezer in each room is useful, free tea/coffee. Cons: poor cleanliness, staff don't really clean properly (can't be bothered), only one toilet/shower per dorm, dorm room is not fully A/C'd, very basic beds, no curtain/light/plugs. Not even a curtain over the windows in the rooms so it's bright in the mornings! Air con units constantly dripping in walkways. Rooms/bathrooms are a mess, loads of things left by previous guests and no attempt is made by staff to clean it up. For Honolulu it's a budget place but not great value for money. Would not stay again.

don't book a hostel here! I booked a hostel for one week one month before the trip, paid for the accommodation! I arrive at the hostel, and they tell me that there are no places and that Iā€™m supposedly a man who ordered a bed in the womenā€™s roomšŸ¤ŖšŸ¤ŖšŸ™ˆ. I showed them my order, nowhere in it was there an inscription for a women's room, but there was an inscription - a mixed room! I ended up staying on the street, and there were no cheap hotels or hostels available anywhere else!!! the cheapest accommodation was $1400šŸ¤ŖšŸ™ˆ Besides the fact that they left me homeless and forced me to look for expensive housing, they also called the police on me!!! disgusting place!

I really enjoyed my stay at the beachside hostel, they just finished building a lounging area which was nice to be able to meet other travellers. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful for information regarding Oahu, especially luna and faith. If I could change something about the hostel I think they should add a common kitchen area where travellers can cook full meals. Other then that everything else about the hostel was pretty normal I didn't have any complaints.

great, not expensive hostel. 3 minutes walk to the beach! shops nearby! The only thing I didnā€™t like was that the beds creaked a lot and there was no laundry! And so, in general, a good place. I recommend!

This is the worst hostel in Waikiki by far! I stayed at another hostel down the street and it was SO much better. The front desk staff are not friendly... the people who stay at this hostel overall are not young travelers and it's not a place to meet people, there's no facilitation by the hostel to plan fun activities. The hostel down the street has daily tours every single day to different parts of the island and Is only a few bucks more expensive... the worst part of all is the Lockers in the rooms... you have to put 25 cents into the locker every single time you want to access your stuff. that is SO PETTY. I've traveled to over 40 countries and have never experienced this in a hostel In my life. We should be able to bring our own padlocks and access our things anytime they want. The fact that this hostel wants to make money on you every time you access your valuables is ridiculous. Worse comes to worse it even jams sometimes and you have to go all the way to your front desk to have them help you open your locker. Definitely don't stay here

Not amazing, but much better than I expected based off the reviews. The beds are comfortable, albeit be a bit short if youā€™re above 6ā€4, and the rooms are not really a room with eight beds; Itā€™s two rooms with four beds each. Maybe we were lucky but our room was very quiet and it was OK to sleep. One bathroom is maybe a little too less for eight people especially with some other guests showering 30 minutes but thatā€™s not the hostels fault. I would stay here again.

Staff are amazingly friendly, courteous and super nice. The gate door next to the scooter shop is the entrance since it may be a little confusing upon arrival. Very clean kitchen and rooms. I always manage to get the front room with AC so that's a plus. Sheet set with pillow are provided but bring your own blanket. Super close to beach, the strip so it's very convenient. Local bus stops are very close if you need. Awesome hostel mates and staff that made my hostel experience legendary and epic. P.S. Make your reservations thru their website only! It's the best way since they get booked quick so you might have to arrange your dates around availability. Extended stays can also be easily arranged.

The people were very friendly and nice, but not the most helpful. I didn't even realize there was a commun area and a kitchen until I asked other guests. I have stayed in many hotals before and this has been one of the most uncomfortable ones. I understand is Waikiki and is.expensive, but there are some details that can me this place more comfortable for it's guest. 1) the entrance is right under an AC unit so water drips on your head while you try to open the front foor, 2) there are no curtains in the bunk beds to block light at each individual bed, 3) there are no outlets near the top beds or, in some rooms lower beds, 4) there are no individual lights at each bed so people don't have to turn the lights on when others are sleeping, 5) there is only one bathroom for 8 people, this was not clear in the description, 6) if you are in the top bed, beware than when you climb up the bed is very wablely and noisy. If traveling with someone else, I think is worth it to find a better hotel to share a room, if traveling solo this might be your only cheap option in Waikiki Pros: amazing location for Waikiki. It seems they organized activities Didn't try any form lack of time. Reliable Internet

For my very first experience with a hostel, it was pleasant. They were very easy to find and the staff was kind as well. GPS had no problem finding the location. A convenience store is located right around the corner within walking distance. So, if you're hungry or forget a few toiletries, go there. This place IS NOT hotel status. It's good enough to sleep at for a few hours if needed and a place to take a shower and go. You have to pay for towels if you need them. $4 each and you keep it. $20 refundable for room key. Easy check in and easy check out. Yes, if i were traveling alone, I would stay here again.

My friends stayed here for our annual reunion and had the best time and experience compared with their other times staying at different hostels in the same area. Highly recommended! Thanks to the lovely staff they were amazing!

The people that work here are incredible. Shoutout to Lucy, Mo, Faith and Chris. There is AC and the place is clean, the location is unmatched literally one block from the water. The rooms are quiet and the common areas are great places to meet people from around the world. All in all this is the a good example of how a hostel should be.

  • 5/5 Aris F. 10 months ago on Google
For a hostel within a 60 second walk from Waikiki beach, you canā€™t beat it! The facility was clean, decent kitchen space and the dorms had a fridge in them. There were working A/C in each room though but still a little worm at night but itā€™s a hostel itā€™s expected. Staff was great, especially Chris, good guy! My only issue was the room key access. Smart, innovative and safe but annoying as one needs to ensure they have their phone on them at all time during their stay. Other than that Iā€™d book it again especially with a moped/bike rental spot right outside the building!

  • 3/5 D H. 10 months ago on Google
This was my first time in a hostel, so I really did not know what to expect. The location is excellent. I did not like having one bathroom for 8 guests. I did not know the rooms were co-ed. The area is pretty noisy. You have to use an app to unlock the door, so if your cellphone battery dies you'll have a problem. One guy was pounding on the door at 3 a.m. because his battery died. The beds are squeaky. Every time someone tosses and turns, you hear it. Staff was friendly. The room was relatively clean. I wish the kitchen was open 24 hours because I was on Florida time, but a nearby Starbucks opens at 04:30.

The staff was never to be found when you really needed them And they come in and deep clean the rooms and they take all your stuff, some of it you don't get back, it just seemed to disappear

Iā€™m glad that I didnā€™t stay here. Lady on the phone was nasty and said I couldnā€™t book because I didnā€™t have a flight out of the island even though Iā€™m traveling. Not a very friendly placeā€¦.Walked by the other night and looks trashy anyway.

Aloha! I live on big Island and needed to come to Oahu for a emergency and a doc apt. I called them last min and they went above & beyond to help accommodate me even tho it was last second. I have to say, some of these reviews are quite shocking, and rude and far from the truth. #1 in general when you stay in hostels, they are NOT HOTELS, so if you are picky and want super super clean rooms bathrooms , quit , room service and more then HOSTELS is not for YOU. I understand wanting decent cleaning and stuff , but you have to remember that you are on Hawai'i islands, the floor is goin to be dirty and sandy from time to time, Thats a norm here. I had a wonderful stay to be honest! Yes its loud at night but that is city for you. I have lived on Hawaii Isand ( Big Island ) for 6 years and I have visited Oahu many times , So the noise doesn't bother me at all. I will say that the bunkbeds are very squeaky but that dont bother me either. I WILL MOST Definitely STAY HERE AGAIN in the NEAR FUTURE!!!!!!! MAHALO NUI LOA !

Currently staying at this hostel and it has to be one of the cleanest hostels Iā€™ve stayed in Oahu. The staff is very nice and courteous, my room was very clean. There is coffee in the kitchen every morning, but the actual kitchen is still in the works. You do have to pay to get towels, what I donā€™t like is that there is no parking so itā€™s about a 15-20 minute walk to get your car, there is no surfing boards or other items to borrow or rent for the day, bathroom doesnā€™t have body soap or shampoo so BYO. The Wi-Fi can be slow if youā€™re looking to do work. This hostel is in a good location there are many restaurants and bars that are at a walking distance. There is a beautiful hang out area outside downstairs that is very clean and peaceful.

  • 4/5 Heather R. 1 year ago on Google
Cleaned daily. Very nice and personable staff. The kitchen was under renovations so that sucked. Having a fridge in the room helped. Wish the rooms had chairs. Very very close to the beach and food trucks and shops. Each room has a different vibe. Ask about the locals doing fire spinning and the teaching class for it.

  • 4/5 Danny R. 6 years ago on Google
A great place. There are not many hostels in the states, but this is a good one. The breakfast is pretty good and in a chill area on the ground level. It feels cozy and reception knows a lot about the island and can answer questions. The location is perfect for the nightlife of Waikiki and as a jumping off point for the rest of the island. I liked that even the "8-person" rooms were made up of two 4-person rooms so there was more privacy than if it was one big 8-person room.

Second hostel and at my third one right now and so far that's been my favourite. Perfect location and great atmosphere. The 10pm quiet hr sucks, but certain staff can be cool about it. Love being able to walk back and forth from the beach so easily, plus an easy walk to diamond head. Also Maggie, amazing. Great to chat to and great vibes !!

  • 2/5 Abdulrahman A. 5 years ago on Google
Not bad and not that good. I stayed few nights here and it was cool to meet people from different countries. The place not clean at all and I think they need to pay attention to it. The room just had 4 lockers which are not enough for the people on the room and you will difficult time securing your things and gard them. The breakfast is normal some toast and cereal. If you want to save money comparing to the hotels then try it.

  • 4/5 Michelle W. 4 years ago on Google
It is a little B-Grade but renovations are in progress. It is a hostel and that is to be expected. Its perfect if you just need somewhere to rest your head. It is central to the zoo, aquarium and beach, close to Diamond Head as well. Everything is in close walking distance. There is no blankets but reception kindly let me have extra sheets. Breakfast is from 9-10 am and consists or toast or porridge. Vending machines give you extra options and there is an ABC store on every corner. Bring your soap and shampoo, towels can be brought at reception for a reasonable price. Loved that they had a coin operated washing machine and dryer.

  • 3/5 Review 1. 5 years ago on Google
Overall I had a good experience here, location is great and i met fun people, but the ā€œcomplementary breakfastā€ is literally just toast and peanut butter. You arenā€™t allowed to be anywhere in the hostel ( other than your own room ) after 10pm. I understand lots of places have a quiet time, but this wasnā€™t that, at 10pm you just had to leave. The sheets I received when checking in were dirty and had a couple large stains on them. Although the majority of staff were very friendly, there was an older blond woman who was constantly rude. Not sure if Iā€™d stay here again.

  • 3/5 Tippin H. 4 years ago on Google
Not the best and not the worst. Definitely one of the more dirty hostels Iā€™ve stayed in and Iā€™ve stayed in a lot of different ones. You make a your own bed and thereā€™s no fitted sheet. The mattress had a lot of stains. The beds were pretty comfortable. I stayed in a mixed dorm in the bunks. The breakfast couldā€™ve been a little better and they only offer it 9-10 am. Good location in The middle of the city next to the beach. The staff wasnā€™t super welcoming. It reminded me of a college dorm or old hotel turned into a hostel.

Location is the best on Waikiki! Close to ocean - parks- swimming with turtles- yoga in the park - the best restaurants. But cooking at the hostel is possible too. The hostel with Az management is so supportive and welcoming she made me and other feel at home. She has extraordinary people skills, organizational and managerial skills. She is committed to building community and the hostel holds such promise for strengthening international communication.
