Very poor service. This was my least favorite hotel I’ve ever had to stay in. To its credit the rooms are mostly fine. But everything else is a nightmare. The location is terrible it’s not near anything and is incredibly hard to drive to. You have to take 5 lefts turns and make a box just to get there. It’s also difficult and confusing getting into the parking, which you can only park in AFTER you've checked in. We were stuck waiting ten minutes just for the line to get to the parking stall! And parking is $40 a night, with almost no stalls available and they’re incredibly small and hard to park in. The elevators take forever. It takes us on average 20 minutes every night just to get to our room, and three times now our keys haven’t worked. It’s been almost an hour process of going back up and down the stairs just to get my keys working! It’s way over priced with a surprise $17 resort fee PER NIGHT. Terrible location, no water pressure in the room, overpriced parking, rude staff, and just a poor experience all around. It is unacceptable how hard it’s been just getting into our rooms every night.

The gentleman who helped me at the front desk was great and gave me excellent customer service!!!! But DO NOT STAY HERE. The advertising for the rooms are FALSE. The beds are stained and literally look like hospital beds THEY HAVE WHEELS ON THEM. There are stains all over them. The floor feels slimy and safe does not work or connect to the wall. The tv is the size of a computer monitor, the elevators work half the time and everything is very outdated. The price is great, but you can spend an extra $40 and stay somewhere nicer. The fridge is on top of a wooden dresser, the ac also is very loud. Their is Water damage in the walls. This place is honestly not safe. You have to pay for parking, $40 per night or find somewhere to park on the street. There is a $17 “resort fee.” I’ve stayed at super 8 hotels, I would prefer one of those over this hotel.

We stayed here for two nights through Hotwire. The hotel was extremely disappointing. We feel we were taken deliberately mislead as to what this hotel was. The room was disgusting. There was a huge orange stain on bed skirt. There was dried liquid all over the walls and curtains. There was mold from water leaks. The lights were flickering. One of the lights was out in the bathroom. The tv volume was not consistent. When asked about a clean towel, we were told to be downstairs before 9am if we wanted one….the furniture was in disrepair in the room. The area of the hotel was definitely not close to the beach, it was on the canal. We would absolutely not recommend anyone staying here. This was our first time to Waikiki and this place was poor reflection and first impression of a nice city. The cost was comparative to other, much nicer locations in the same area which seems a bit ridiculous considering what you actually stay within. This was essentially like when a government buys a hotel and puts single residency rooms for people struggling with homelessness. Do not stay here or give them your hard earned money.

We stayed at the Monarch through Airbnb. The location is optimal if you're looking for more or a night life while visiting. It is downtown and you can walk to most bars and restaurants. They have smart cars for rent right outside the main lobby and you get a discount if you are staying here. The view is very dependent on which side of the building you are on, thankfully we were on the side with the canal so it wasn't just buildings. I've attached a picture of the view from our room. Now for the inside of the hotel... it is an old building and has a quite dingy smell in the elevators and hallways but it is clean for the most part. The room we were in was a very small studio with not much room even for our luggage. However, it has an amazing pool deck with BBQs, lounge chairs and hot tubs. There is a small convince store downstairs and there is a gas station right around the corner in case you forget items. Overall, through the Airbnb, it was worth the cost but it probably wouldn't be somewhere that I'd stay again.

All tho it’s expensive for parking the floors were not slimy for my room. There bakery has very good smoothies and desserts. My hotel room was on the 20th floor and the view was amazing at night I could see the boats the night time stars and the city. The AC is nice and there may be dust in the filter but it’s perfectly fine as long as it doesn’t shoot dust out into the air if you’re thinking of going to the bakery to get a smoothie I recommend the mango smoothie and the Chocolate croissant. It’s not a bad hotel people are just leaving bad reports. The only bad side is the price of parking. Floors may feel weird at first but you will get used to it after a couple of hours. anyways if you look down the street there’s a seven eleven down the street that sells sushi ice pops and ramen and more. I don’t see why people leave bad reviews on this hotel other then prices recommend coming here. one quick question is I don’t know if it was my room that was good but just know it was at the 20th floor.. I’m young so pls don’t hate on any of my mistake’s other why’s I’m sorry. Nothing was bad on my hotel AC had nothing on it not stains or anything comparing my room to the pictures I think I got one of the best rooms my opinion by the way and also Recommend this hotel!!! Again my opinion!

This hotel is extremely outdated and needs a lot of improvement. I initially had an airbnb at this property. It was subpar. Based on my experience, I will never stay here. Do better Monarch! I was told the owner also owns Robert Hawaii transportation. The transportation option is amazing; however, this property is not.

If I could give a negative this would be it. Warning the shower feels like a power wash, and it sprinkles out. The fridge does not work 2 days my food has been soaked, but front desk is only available 9-5. The cleaning lady or man did not show up to clean anything during our stay. T.v channels are limited oh and here's the real kicker. You paid a reservation it doesn't matter because you'll pay a fee for amenities, parking yes parking and its 40$ a night😬 this ain't a deal and if it was then it's a deal with the devil. Do better and book elsewhere trust me.

Gentleman working at the front desk this afternoon is quite rude. I’m staying on the condo side via airbnb and had about 3 hours of waiting time so I began falling asleep while waiting. He yelled at me to sit up properly, shaking his head and then walked off with 2 female employees laughing.. Sort of felt like I was being talked to like a dog the way he yelled and shook his head at me. Lol. Outside of that experience, the building is really old and outdated but the location is great and views on higher floors is spectacular. Parking is expensive (I forgot if it’s $25 or $30/night) and to use the gym/pool is $5 for the duration of your stay. The bakery downstairs has good malasadas and coffee as well! I’ve never stayed on the hotel side but I stay about once a year on the condo side and the views are wonderful enough to continue staying. Solid 3/5 for the location and views. Knocking it down 2 stars because of the building itself — it has a sketchy vibe, condo-side rooms are small and very dated, and loud construction is happening currently from Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Customer service experience might be an isolated event so I won’t let that affect my overall rating, just adding it here so others are aware of the potential for that.

Booked here on Priceline. It was kind of last minute because I wasn’t sure if I’d actually be traveling to Hawaii? Anyhow the hotel was very responsive and always had someone on duty be it an attendant or security.. The hotel was also being renovated which had workers in an out at all hours. The pool and hot tubs were nice. They enter restaurants on the property and a little ole pricey convenience store. All in all it was a good experience but the view from my room was amazing! I could see myself staying here once more after the renovations.

Don't let the champagne taste on a beer budget reviews fool you, this place is just fine for what you pay for it. Its an older building with pretty basic features, and probably won't be the greatest hotel stay you'll ever have, but it likely won't be the worst either. If you're just looking for a place to leave your stuff while you're out and about during the day, shower, and sleep, this is a solidly decent, safe place with walkable access to many great spots. If you absolutely must pee in a marble bathroom and require daily housekeeping, you're welcome to pay 2-3 times as much for a hotel a block over.

Stayed there for 10 Nights. Partner and I was disappointed from day 1. Checked in, paid $150 ‘amenity fee’ and was told that housekeeping wasn’t available. No where was this mentioned at the time of booking. One of the lifts was out of order for the entire duration of our stay < not a problem if it wasn’t busy and the pool was closed for the last 3 Nights of our stay. What’s the point of paying the ‘amenity fee’ then??? Room was dirty but the bathroom was very nice. Management should definitely look at changing the old school air conditioning system. All and all, we were dissatisfied with our stay. At least our trip (apart from Waikiki Monarch) was great! Please read previous reviews if you’re still planning on booking here (trust me).

Average hotel. Its age is beginning to show, but the room was clean and the view was spectacular. Has a nice time quick food stand (burger and sushi) and a good place to eat it in the downstairs bar. Connected to a very nice looking breakfast spot, which was too popular for me to try with its long line.

It was clean, safe, well managed, with convenience stores, places to eat, car rental services, pool, Jacuzzi, outdoor eating, Cabanas & friendly, helpful people everywhere. Easiest part of the trip was knowing I was safe & comfortable in the Hawaiian Monarch. Rainbows almost every day out my window.

Where do I begin? I stayed here from Sept 21 - Oct 6, 2022. Upon arrival, it doesn't feel like you're ready to vacation. Instead, it feels like you've walked into a struggle. There's no "lobby" area really, just a bench by the front desk area and an ATM. The mini/convenience mart has a terrible stench when you walk in. It's kind of overwhelming and everything is overpriced. Sure you can go to the 7-Eleven up the street, but it's occupied by some sketchy characters. Do yourself a favor and take an Uber to the Target at/near the Ala Moana Shopping Center. There are guava/coconut pineapple muffins, danishes, etc. in the lobby cafe. But I wouldn't recommend eating them, as I noticed a roach run in the front door by another customer's sneaker. No one and I mean NO ONE did anything about this roach. They were too cavalier. And I soon discovered why. The whole building has an ongoing roach problem. They occupy the trash rooms, crawl on walls in the hallway, and even made it into my unit on the 36th floor - that's the condo side. One morning I saw a maintenance main spraying the crevices of the elevator on the 36th floor. I suppose that makes sense. Spray the elevator on the level where Airbnb guests are opposed to lower levels where hotel guests occupy. Carpet is dingy, walls are drab, decor is really, really dated. There's a weird lower level waiting area that's more like a nook with TV monitors. They don't play anything valid. Screensavers with beautiful tropical themes rotate. If you have to use the restroom and you're in the lobby, you're directed around the corner and down the hall to a restroom that mimics one at a gas station. It's seedy. And slightly unsettling for women. You have to get a key from the downstairs security office (??) to access the lobby restroom. I could go on but in short, DO NOT try to penny pinch and stay here. You will regret it. I didn't list everything wrong with Waikiki Monarch. I'm just tired of typing.

This was a very last minute budget booking for our honeymoon. We got what we paid for. We were here for six nights and on the fourth day one of the beds broke. No building maintenance to speak of in way of repairs for it. Tried to switch us rooms and the new room was even smaller with no closet. This building is NOT a hotel. The majority for the rooms in the building are long term tenants. We had trouble finding the "lobby" for check in as it is not set up like a hotel. The amenities list "Cable TV" and in no way is this cable TV. This was a smart TV with the free channels and apps like Hulu/ Vudu/ and ESPN pre installed. (Need a password to download additional apps) The apps had been logged in by previous occupants that forgot to log out of their accounts. The bathroom was ok but nothing fancy. The day shift customer service at the front desk was good but the night shift was lacking. All in all we didn't spend much time in the room. This was ok as a last minute booking but I would not book here if we had more time to plan and would not recommend for future stays.

Two stars only because of the view and cleanliness, otherwise it gets a 1! Pictures online are deceiving! Rooms are small, furniture is old and dingy, lighting is awful, the hallways stink and look like some 3rd world hostel. No accessible outlets to easily charge phones etc. AC unit was old and temp was not adjustable (filter was gross). And Parking will cost you $40 for one night!! Not impressed for a hotel that’s located in the Waikiki bay.

If you're looking for that luxury Hawaiian experience, this isn't it. That being said if you're traveling on a budget or just want to be away from the downtown area this is a great option. I rented an Airbnb here recently and had a good experience and wanted to share the highlights. The room was small and antiquated but clean and honestly quite cozy. All the amenities worked and we had no real issues on that front. The pool area was nice, good view but nothing really special. The shops and restaurants on the main floor were amazing. Don't be fooled by the pizza guys shoddy setup, he makes a great pie and is very friendly. The coffee and pastry shop is incredible, we went every morning. The staff were accommodating and we had no negative experiences dealing with anyone there. The parking is by all accounts a scam however, if you're renting a car, good luck. We managed to find street parking but it was a huge headache. Still better than dealing with the in house option though. As for location, I really enjoyed walking the city. It is "far" from the beach, about 10 minutes. I really didn't mind where we were stationed but if you're looking to spend a lot of time downtown and by the water you better plan for it. Overall it was a good experience. By the end of our trip the room felt like home and I was very used to the walking distance. I would come back and I would say that if you're more of the hostel staying adventure type this could be a good option for you depending on price point.

Quiet hotel however everything in the room was old. The beds were not comfortable and squeaked. The TV was the size of a computer monitor and there was rust on the inside of the fridge. The location was convenient with restaurant and gas stations within a 10 minute walking distance.

You get what you paid for, but I think the location justified everything given the price. First time here and booked an Airbnb in the building. The location is great! I got to walk to so many places and super conveniently located. The elevators are slow and 1/3 are under maintain. But honestly, I didn’t need to wait for more than 10 minutes like some of the reviews suggested. The rooms are small so it’s great for solo travelers or you just want a place to rest and shower. The building itself is old but clean enough. Although the units are quite crowed, I wasn’t able to hear any noise.

This place is a 1 star at best. The whole building needs to be knocked down and rebuilt to today’s standard. The service by staff is much to be desired ranging from argumentative to lacking any kind of enthusiasm for their jobs to ripping you off. One or two are polite. But your lucky if you find them at the front desk in the first place. The walls are paper thin so you can hear your neighbors, they don’t have safe practices in place when it comes to things like power outages and elevators not working, the place is just decrepit and old. Old building, VERY OLD FURNITURE, old everything. The only thing going for it is the location, other than that, nothing. Definitely not worth the price you pay, you’re better off finding another budget hotel. Do not recommend.

Location is perfect. Everything needed is within walking distance. Central to a few bus stops that take you to Ala Moana where you can transfer to a lot of places on the island. 7/11 conveniently by the hotel for quick snacks. Food truck right across are an amazing place to get meals during the day while staying nearby.

I rented though a private owner. The unit was very clean and inviting. Location was good and I felt safe. One of three elevators not in operation and this appears to be a long-standing issue. This is a busy place there is very limited parking on the street. Skip the car and Uber or take a bus.

Enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Had an apartment with two rooms with separate toilets and bathrooms. There were adequate facilities for cooking. It was nearby shops, restaurants, and the beach. Loved staying there.

This place is a joke. The lady said they had handicapped accessible areas. She said we would have a rollaway bed at an extra charge. There was no handicapped areas except one bathroom that was near the ice machine. We never got a rollaway because the other lady said they didn't have sheets for them. We ended up buying a blow up mattress from Walmart and saved money in the long run. Our room was absolutely gross. The 2 full size not queen beds were just broken springs and creaky and saggy in the middle of them. The shower had mold in it and on the curtain. The toilet paper holder was broke off on one side. They decided to scaffold down our window to do work on the building before the quiet time was over and blasted their music and woke us up early for 2 days in a row. The parking is an extra $45 a night or 2 nights for $80 The spaces are super tight but that is typical style there. The first girl over charged us and we asked to speak to the manager to clear it up and she was just rude said they don't have one and was talking to her friend on her cell the whole time and acted like we were an inconvenience. While she was at work. We at this place for 10 days. It was the worst place I've ever stayed at in HI. I've stayed in 17 hotels on Oahu. This one was not only old, disgustingly filthy but, the people were very rude. The ladies in the little bakery were very nice and helpful the check in ladies one didn't understand English very well and the other was a bit more helpful but, gave us wrong information on parking. Don't waste your money at this place. It's just not worth it.

It's the cheapest hotel in Waikiki if you want to keep it under budget. Don't be surprised if they try to put you in a room other than what you requested. The hotel is a little older, but generally clean. Views vary. Our first room put us looking at an old, ready-for-demo sky scraper. The second room had a great view.

So a lot of parties that are loud with naked children running around. Washer and dryers that do not work. Tried for 10 minutes and nothing.... Eating and drinking in the hot getting it everywhere. Next day we found toy cars at the bottom of the hot tub. The night before they had 8 adults and 3 very small children in the barely 6 person hot tub. They have cameras near the pool. However the security guard ignored it. I held a frozen small coconut that I couldn’t drink because it was frozen... and I get scolded by the security guard for drinking... Even when I told her and showed her is was frozen. The elevators may or may not work. You never know. The stairs have gates so you cannot take them... So it feels like you are staying in an extremely cheap place and then get lectured for it. We will not be back.

Overall not satisfied with the stay. We rented a slingshot down the street and wanted to park in their empty parking lot from 11pm until 6am , and they wanted to charge me as their guest $45.00 for parking. 2 stars is more than enough just because they held our luggage for few hours until our flight(for which i thought they will charge as well)

Have stayed here twice through airbnb and we love it. Beds have been comfy, rooms have a.c. and were clean. Pool is really nice. Location is amazing, its pretty walkable and not loud. Staff was nice and malekos bakery is the best! It was our favorite way to start the day, the pastries are delicious and uncle Marty is wonderful. The Elevator/stairs &parking can be a bit of a hassle but overall, not that big of a deal, its worth what you pay. Can't wait to go back !

Booked a 2 bedroom with Airbnb, rooms are a bit small, bedroom A has a small galley kitchen with stove, coffee maker, refrigerator and wares. Bedroom B, smaller only a microwave and refrigerator; no living room but each room has a flat screen TV mini desk. Nice views, we were on the 32nd floor. Building is dated but rooms were decent. Large pool, jacuzzi, BBQ’s $45/day for garage parking not included in the $25/day resort fee. Slow elevators.

AMAZING service!!! They were extremely helpful and very kind, it was a very pleasant stay for us. The room was nice and clean, location is wonderful, as it is just 10 minutes walking from the hustle&bustle in Waikiki, but far enough to not get the loud noises.

First time to Hawaii so we wanted to stay close to the beach. Location was awesome that’s why I gave it a 2 stars. Coffee shop downstairs was great as well. Elevators took a bit and we were on 23 floor. Room was super tiny with no dresser. I like to put my things away and not able to. Bathroom was super tiny with no counter space as the sink took most if it. Shower was ok but needs to be repaired and drain cleaned. Was not my hair. Yuck !!! Thought I was getting a small kitchenette. There was only small fridge and microwave. It did have silverware and such But it had these little ants everywhere on the counter. The coffee maker was average. The blow dryer sucked. You had to keep the on button down to keep it on. Seriously, invest 20 bucks fir a new one. Hardwood floor were ok until you bring in sand. They did provide a broom but no dustpan. But they did have 2 boogie boards in the closet. Nice !!!! They only give you one room Key Parking was 35 a night. Yikes!!!! But overall had a good time. Didn’t use any Of the amenities like pool or gym Staff seemed nice enough wasn’t totally impressed with Hawaii. Glad I went but I probably won’t go back. Too many y tourist traffic was awful and lots of hhe attractions were reservations only So many other beautiful places in the world to explore

Stayed here through an Airbnb. Room was small but clean. The rest of the building was quite dingy. One elevator was out of order and the others were incredibly slow. Parking garage was a nightmare. Waited 20 min for the attendant to show up and then she worked slow as she could. Guy at the security desk was very friendly though!

Remember to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking your resort. This web site will compare thousands of hotel sites and usually will have rates much cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This place is one of the best in the area. I've been coming here for a long time. If you stay for a few days you for sure won't be let down. Vanessa and Taila were the best front desk ohana! Stayed 10 days, solo traveler. Like having friends . Good recommendations for places to visit and eat. Comfy King bed. A/C huge pool area, on site laundry.

We stayed here. But room is small cozy. Elevator is slow. Bathroom is small w only one roll of toilet paper. AC is not working properly. Wind and noisy when we have windows open to get cool air since AC is not working. Overall, it is easy to access and 20- 30 minutes walk to international market. About 10-15 minutes walks to beach.

I write to say that you do not reserve with Monarch Hotel Hawaii, they are thieves when it comes to canceling, when you rent from they say that for the cancellation they will charge you a certain amount but when you do it they charge you almost half of what your reservation costs, charging the cleaning services among others as if you had used their rooms, be very careful before booking, inform yourself first before booking with them because it is a shameless robbery that they do to you, beware of this place and its reservation policies! really lousy

Security and staff are rude, they won't give you the time of day. They gave us instructions to tell them we got our card, but locked the booth so no one could contact them and ignored us when we attempted to talk to them. Trash room sticks up the entire floor, wasn't cleaned for at least two days and heavily smelled of marijuana, overall the restaurants located inside are alright but a stay at this place shouldn't be a first option.

We loved our stay here. It wasn’t as extravagant as the other hotels in the area but we had everything we needed - comfy beds, a fridge, a microwave and a nice shower. I needed a stable wifi connection because I was working remotely and the hotel wifi worked really well and I didn’t have any issues. The staff were very nice and accommodating specially Nykki and Twyla. I don’t see the point of booking an expensive hotel when you’re gonna be out almost the entire day. We will stay here again next time we’re in Oahu. Highly recommend!

STAY AWAY. Room was dirty. Partner and I had to call Reception a few times during our stay because Housekeeping did not clean our room properly - bin wasn't emptied, towels, soaps and shampoo weren't replenished. Air-conditioning was old, and wasn't really good. Location was good, as it was pretty central. Unfortunately the accommodation here let us down, and left a bad taste to our otherwise wonderful trip.

Waikiki looks great from the 36th floor, but eventually you have to come back down to Earth. This is a rather typical dated Honolulu high rise: Great views if you’re elevated enough, but dreary hallways, cramped elevators and the dreaded “laundry room” make this a somewhat mediocre portion of paradise. Hawaii? Sort of.

Disappointing… cleanliness needs improvement. Staff and service, needs improvement, property and condition of building was terrible, it’s obvious they don’t do a good job at maintenance. Their website claims 24hr front desk concierge, that’s a lie, they are there from 9-5. Website also says daily housekeeping, also a lie. We never even saw housekeeping, no one cleaned or replaced towels. Instead we had to ask for new towels and were told to bring the dirty ones downstairs. I didn’t. In one of our rooms, the bathroom door was only holding on by one hinge. The other room had a nasty mini fridge that wasn’t even cleaned out and there was a coffee maker with the glass container missing. The biggest disappointment is the parking. There is no parking at this hotel and street parking is VERY limited. The parking lot right next to the hotel is run by someone else who has terrible customer service skills and the fee is an outrages $35 a night. Would not recommend, stay somewhere else.

Definitely a great spot. Many things are below the hotel. A 7-eleven a very short distance away, and a few restaurants nearby.

Laundry service is too bad. The machine didnt work at all and charged $8 on my credit card. There is no room service. You gotta do everything by yourselves. The reception lady is very rude. Parking is overpriced @$35 per night. There are lot of hidden charges. I had to pay $90 extra for 3 days stay which was not mentioned while booking. Nevertheless, the view from the room was good.

  • 1/5 Katie F. 2 years ago on Google
Cons: It takes 10 minutes to get access to an elevator. Charged $35 a night to park. Ants on many surfaces. Dirty hallways and stuffy elevators. Pros: my view is stunning, location, spacious enough for one person, quiet - can’t hear neighbors or anyone around me.

Be sure to BRING YOUR ID CARD, and know who you are visiting, this is not a place to wander around and hope to run into someone. The security will trespass you and only give you five minutes to reach to he party you are visiting. The food is great, the parking is reasonable for waikiki. The property is clean for as many people move in and out of the building. The condos are mostly individually owned, so it's a new room every time you stay there, you never really know what to expect. I've had luxurious rooms to cluttered thrift store type rooms, so if your looking for a place to crash this could be up your ally, but it may be a little expensive if you are expecting a hotel like experience. This is more like apartment or flat style...so it's a home for you when you go visit. They also have an awesome pool/party deck. Most importantly , everyone can find the Monarch , everything is walking distance. It's safe enough to fall asleep on the sidewalk if you get lazy from the beach. It's cool. Aloha.
