I’m happy Scarlet is back open! Although last call is at 1130 now. Good for them for requiring vaccine cards now- to the reviewer who was crying about this: stop being a big baby or go move to cry baby island with the rest of the babies! 👶 Update 6/26/22- back in full swing and totally lit! The best party in Chinatown on a Saturday night. Admission is $20 but it’s well worth the price 🤙

My boyfriend and I went on a Friday night and it was just a straight club. Every fifth person was gay and it made us uncomfortable. There was little to no representation and the straights were taking over a gay space aggressively. My boyfriend got shoulder checked twice just trying to walk through the crowd. All in all if you’re apart of the LGBTQIA+ community I wouldn’t go its over priced and unfriendly to us in our own space.

Scary place. Friends had to throw away 3 of my drinks since 3 seperate guys (!!!) tried spiking them. Then tried to go to the bathroom and a few other guys tried fiddling with the lock to barge in on me. That said, the vibe isn't bad, it's overall fine. It's not a gay bar though- it's a club. Ladies, don't let the lure of a "gay bar" lull you into complacency like it did to me. There are a lot of ill-intentioned men that go here to capitalize on your comfort. It's fun. Just keep your head on a swivel, watch your drinks, don't cross fade unless you have great friends or your S/O there to watch you, and whatever you do, stay the heck away from the gender neutral bathroom toward the front. Only go to the women's bathroom in the back. (Maybe that's self explanatory, but when you're wasted and you see a bathroom sign, all you're thinking is, "Bathroom?")

Requiring a vaccine certification to get in? Blatant medical discrimination. Especially since the vaccine doesn’t prevent individuals from contracting or spreading COVID. Insanity. Not giving a dollar to this place or any other that attempts to access my private medical information for entry. And to think people were calling us conspiracy theorists a year ago when we talked about vaccine passports. Sheep.

Too crowded and sweaty for me. I lived the drag show so I would put five stars alone for that, but a lot of straight people. I like my bars and nightclubs to be strictly lgbtqia+ because it gets weird when you see a drunk straight girl slapping a gay guys butt. I feel like stepping in and I just don’t like how commercialized the place seems. But the drag queens are gorgeous. Too young of a crowd for me and there’s some straight guy predator vibes there too. Just not my scene.

I love coming to Scarlet for the amazing drag shows and the LGBT safe space, but after the drag show ended the bar was no longer a gay club. The clientele transitioned to a strong majority of straight men and women. Some of the straight men were unfriendly and mocking the male go go dancers. I didn’t really feel comfortable being there anymore.

They charge for water and $20 dollar cover when it’s empty. They also replay the same songs and only play 20 seconds of a song before changing. Scarlet in Chicago is way better.

My first time back since Covid and sad to say it was primarily a straight bar. We got shoulder several times by aggressive straight guys and didn't feel safe. It was sad that a queer space has been taken over though not sure what can be done. Only sharing for others to be aware of what you're walking into.

Pros: Nice large space with a great sound system and awesome drag shows. Cons: While we understand Scarlet can’t prevent people from coming here including straight folks who I’m sure bring in tons of money (who blames them, it’s a business ), it becomes a rather complicated recipe for intimidation and unseen aggressive behaviors towards it’s target population and that’s us in the LGBTQ+ community. It’s not that they (straight people ) are there (at least for us ) but the fact that my husband got shoved by this white straight girl in an aggressive form is what’s worrisome. It’s the fact that homophobic guys come here and treat those in our community in aggressive ways that staff can’t control or see. It happened A LOT. It’s a creation of the staff and they need to figure out how to target the situation . Until then, Scarlet has a serious issue.

We used to like this place then tonight they kicked us out for absolutely no reason. the “bouncer” actually started swinging at my girlfriend then punched her to the ground. and then kept swinging at her. until we ran away. i was respectfully trying to ask why we were kicked out. they gave us no reason at all. she has bruises. really really sad that this is a place we used to feel safe.

Women are NOT welcome here. I was here with my gay friend (I’m a queer women) and a staff member asked us in the bar (after the drag show) “you know this is a gay bar right?” My friend was appalled by the sexism. He was also shocked when my drink was almost water when he compared it to his (and to be clear this wasn’t a situation where I had been over-served). I have never had a less welcoming experience in a gay bar. The drag queens were amazing but the rest was disappointing.

So, I don’t normally write reviews on bars, usually it’s on restaurants so this is one to take in. I used to formerly work in the nightclub scene similar to here so I know what is to expect. Cons, pros, etc First off, a $20 cover charge is a little much. In NYC, cover charges for a club similar are $10 MAX. I found 20 to be a bit excessive but I’m visiting and I heard this was the club in the area to go to besides a hole in the wall. I gotta say, the space is huge. Different rooms with different music. It’s nice because if you want to cool off, you can go into another room that’s not the main room. So that was nice. Upon reading the reviews, they’re true when it comes to the clientele. I was shocked to see mostly straight guys here, little out of the ordinary from what I see in NJ/NYC which you seen none but what didn’t make me uncomfortable was that my experience personally, I didn’t feel judged. I was shocked to see that straight guys were dancing around with our community. It was an eye opener. On top of that, a little eye candy was good to see. However, I could agree and see where people are coming from where this should be our bar and not there’s, but it could be worse. Now, If you’re the type of person that is claustrophobic and doesn’t like to dance and bump into people this isn’t the place for you. Because of the extra straight guys that dance around all over the place, it could get annoying. But if your like me, I just push and dance around back! It did get extremely sweaty and hot in there so as I mentioned, it will be a crowded like atmosphere especially on a Saturday night. I personally loved the music. Whoever DJed on this particular night killed it. I like house and EDM and it was just the right amount of mixes. Drinks are reasonably priced. For me it was a 4/5. Mostly cause of the cover charge.

While fun at first, the end of the night was abrupt and rude. While patiently waiting in the line for the bathroom a bouncer instructed us that we all must leave “right now!”. As a respectful Canadian visiting, this is not the way to treat people who are supporting your business and looking to have a good time. I have noticed from the review that this type of mixed experience is the norm. Perhaps finding a balance of respect would allow this place to be successful. Until then, I’ll take my money to the other friendly bars in town.

First time there tonight and we all had a great time. The drag show was lit and the vibe was awesome. Everybody and everything was lit. A drink costs around $10. Besides that, the restrooms were just a bit trashed.

Their bartender randomly decides who to kick out from the club. We paid $41 to get in and got to this bartender. The music was VERY loud and he didn't hear our order at all even tho we tried more than couple times. He charged us for a random drink and got mad. After that we decided to text it on our phone, he was already pointing to the security guy to get us out. After arguing with the manager for about 30 mins he reimbursed us $60, but our night was definitely ruined. $25 to get to the club and the same amount back. So $50 just to be ashamed because of their bartender mistakes. You're doing bad, Scarlet.

Scarlet Honolulu has an AMAZING show that never misses! They also now have an ATM on site to make tipping those performers that much easier...also, drinks are cheaper when paid in cash 🤙🏾

I went this past weekend and I’ll be returning this coming one. I had a blast. Friendly staff and awesome crowd and music. This was a highly needed getaway. Gave me a downtown Austin TX vibe. Right at home. Highly recommend.

I can't figure out if this is a straight club with a 'gay theme' or a gay club that caters to straight chicks. Music was dub step in the main room, and a mix of dance music and dated hip-hop in the front room. It's too bad; they did a nice job with the set up. The club looks nicer than any other in Honolulu, and it's the only real dance club that's at least gay-friendly.

Went there last night to see Eureka O'Hara. Not going to lie, I was nervous about going based on some of the reviews, however, my experience was vastly different. The only time I heard security get loud with anyone was when someone was trying to exit the venue with an alcoholic drink in hand. It should be common sense that that is a no-no. I exited the venue multiple times with water and that was fine. I'm really shy and so awkward it hurts. Still, I had a blast and found the staff to be polite and super friendly.

I went to Scarlet’s for my birthday and had the time of my life. From the moment you walk in the energy is amazing and the crowd is awesome. The dancers were fantastic and interacted with everyone and made it a great time. Even though it is a mixed crowd of lgbtq and straight people it was still awesome. I felt completely safe and comfortable here. I am glad Honolulu has a fun place like this to go to.

Girls… this is giving straight college bar. It’s very young, straight, + messy. I attempted to asked the queer door staff if this was a ‘gay bar’ based on the clientele in line. They gave me a head nod yes so we went in and paid cover + got drinks. I was very much disappointed. This place is clearly looking for cash short term, not considering longer term impacts on the community they intended to serve.

This is hands-down, one of the best gay clubs I’ve ever been to in my life not only are the dancers amazing the drinks are awesome. They have great food great atmosphere. There’s a reason why this is one of the best kept secrets in Honolulu .

We had a lot of fun here. Got to stand up on these cage-looking things that overlooked the club and also took these stairs by the bathroom to go up what seemed to be a small VIP balcony with a higher view of the club! The music was on point - one of the best DJs we ever vibed to. He just knew what to play and how to remix/transition the music. There is a dancefloor where anyone can just go up on. There is another walkway floor where drag queens and shirtless men peform! The drinks were good. The place was extremely busy on a Friday night. Surprisingly, there were a lot of us straights and people were definitely recognizing it, haha. Everyone had fun and there were no issues in our experience.

First time we went here we had a blast. Amazing drag show, hot guys, and great energy. Went back expecting the same vibe a couple months later and was super disappointed. The hot straight guys turned aggressive and mocking, shoulder checked several times, and given dirty looks if we danced too close to them or the girls they were after. The venue is cool and can be amazing, but unfortunately it didn't allow us to relax and have fun. I got in line to use the restroom (non-urinal), and the security guy made it seem like I was up to no good. What gay bar has issues with mixed restrooms? Overall I would try to go again, since this is the best place to dance, but disappointed by the energy. Won't be going back tonight as originally planned.

Great club. Lots of white guys. Lol. Seriously. The gogo with the glasses. Was told his name is Patrick but probably not his real name is really cute. Open Friday and Saturdays. They closed at 145am. Cover is 20 dollars.

Always great music and entertainment. Makes for a great night cap. Don’t expect to make much conversation here since it’s extremely loud in most of the bar. Paying like 5$ for a bottle of water is a bit extreme.

I’ve partied in major metropolitan cities like Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas.. and this club is one of the worst. Yes it’s crowded and has a lot of potential. The problem is the DJ and music itself. It sucks. Literally. Will not come here again

  • 2/5 Fabio S. 5 months ago on Google
They need to fix their AC system. I don’t know how it is legal to have a crowded space shoulder to shoulder and no adequate AC system. It’s worse than a sauna, easy for someone to pass out. Restrooms are so filthy, barely work, and a hazard with spilled water/piss everywhere. I noticed a girl slip and fall on her face. Cover charge is $20. They should consider doing improvements inside the building charging that much. Too many straight (girls + guys) trying to take over a LGBTQ space. The owners should invest in another place just for the straight folks.

I used to really love Scarlet. But lately when I go it’s so much less of a queer space. The aggressive and clearly homophobic cis straight men and how they treat women and gay men in the club is just generally disconcerting. Last night multiple men tried going into the ladies restroom, either not realizing or not caring about the “urinals only” bathroom directly across the hall. I even had to shove a man away from me to keep from being groped when moving through the crowd. I’ve also witnessed my queer male friends on the other end of aggression from clearly homophobic individuals. I understand getting business from non queer people, but there has to be a solution to refocus and make Scarlet a safe space again.

We had a great time at this place; music started out as straight edm but turned into some awesome club mixes. We were standing/dancing in front of the stairs though, and the bouncer kept rudely shoving me out of the way.

Love Scarlet, can't wait to go when I have the time!

  • 1/5 Pierre C. 1 year ago on Google
Probably the WORST nightclub you can find in Honolulu. We found 2 cockroach in our glass (not even a joke) and I don't speak about the bathroom... It's a nightmare. They just say they were sorry about that 😬 OMG. Then the "drag show" is about 1-2 min maximum. ( I think it's more about 50 sec). I'll say just run from this place as soon as you see my comment. 🙂🙂🙂 PS: the volume inside the club is just insane, we were at least 10-15 person wearing earplugs.

😐 We checked in here for a late lunch and it was a bit of a disappointment. The food was better than it looked like and the beer was alright as well. The place was almost empty and there were a lot of pigeons. I gave only 3 stars for the service because you order online and there's little interaction...
