The nurses/ED techs were all very nice but to pay hundreds of dollars to be spoken down to like a child (I’m a nurse) and not do one test for my sharp abdominal pain (I was referred from urgent care), The ED doctor, your practice is far from professional and efficient. My PCP was very disappointed that there were so scans or tests done at all so she had no idea what was happening in that moment and I have to wait for it to happen again. Ridiculous.

this was one of the better hospitals I've seen in Honolulu. it is very clean and all the ladies are very nice, makes you feel at home. The wait in the ER was minimal for me. sadly they have no pharmacy which in my opinion is unacceptable for a 24/7 hospital.

DO NOT go to this hospital if you are looking to have a natural unmedicated birth. I gave birth here twice both naturally/vaginally, unmedicated and without an IV. Staff was extremely rude and they discriminate if you choose to not vaccinate. They harrassed us. And kept insisting on popping my water when I already told them no. When I asked for help with changing my baby's diaper (with my first child) the nurse on duty told me "you need to learn how to do it yourself," and she didn't assist me. With my second delivery I called and asked for water and the nurse told me "tell your boyfriend to get it for you." They are rude, discriminatory and harrass you if you choose a natural birth. If you choose to not vaccinate your baby, you do not need to sign the refusal to vaccinate form. I didn't sign the form and they gave us an extremely hard time at Kapiolani Hospital. Know your rights. And reconsider a different hospital if you want a natural labor and delivery.

I delivered my firstborn here January 2020. The facilities are lovely, the food is great, and everyone in the labor and delivery / maternity unit was extremely professional and kind. It wasn't a straightforward delivery and I was terrified but the nurses, medical students, residents, and doctors worked together as a team to explain my options and recommend a course of action. They are extremely trustworthy. Baby is perfectly healthy and we are so grateful.

This is a complain to Kapiolani Women & Children rehab department. Kimberly Aina, my daughter physical therapist didn't want to do pre-authorization for my daughter physical therapy (PT) sessions and just want to dismiss her case. Kimberly said just let my daughter go to school, no physical therapy sessions are needed. She even put the wrong info on my daughter's medical record. I told Kimberly to correct it but she ignored me. Putting this wrong information on my daughter's medical record will affect her pre-authorizations for pt sessions. Other doctors will see this incorrect info as well. Kimberly trying to dismiss my daughter's case by saying my daughter don't participate in the session activity and there is nothing she could do and that is not true. If Kimberly think my daughter don't need pt service is true, then why her doctor prescribed pt services. Kimberly is not even trying to make the pt session successful. What kind of therapist is that? Kapiolani rehab dept never get back to me on whether my daughter can change to another physical therapist for re-evaluation, so I assume the answer is no. Or properly the receptionist blocked this info, the message never get to the manager like she said. I think my daughter do need another physical therapist to re-evaluate her. Giving the experience in the rehab dept, it seems people there don't care about the well being of the patient. Even the receiptionist don't even want to accommodate on scheduling. Their attitude is if you don't want to come in, there are a lot of patient thats waiting to be seen, we don't simply care.

Emergency Room Nurse who is asian has black hair , who checked my temperature and asked what was wrong told me why didn't I go to my Regular Doctor I said they couldn't take me right away. She was so mad and her face look so ugly. She was so terrible I should have got her name , the Doctor who helped me after was super nice unlike her if I see her face I would remember. Hope she gets same treatment else where in future too :D

This hospital is a cesspool of incompetence and ignorance. The administration only cares about the bottom dollar. The doctors don’t do any research on anything they’re putting into their patients bodies good or medicine wise. The nurses are blindly arrogant and truly don’t know left from right. Please! You must avoid bringing your child here at all costs. They almost killed my child twice and were poisoning her with the food and medicine they wanted to blindly administer. Kapoilani is a death trap!

Staff is rude. They don't know what their policy regarding covid is. I tested positive but brought my son in for a high fever. I was told I can't be there with my son and someone else had to be with him. Then I get told it's fine that I'm there as long as I don't ask to go to the bathroom. Then they make me leave and have my husband stay with him. On top of that, I'm told they don't have records of his hospitalization for jaundice after being born in that very hospital. It has been and unfortunate displeasure having my child be seen there for supposed treatment. Now I know where not to give birth, where not to seek treatment, and where not to refer anyone. They did not even help me when I was consistently throwing up. I went to Queens medical center for treatment. These medical staff need to learn how to treat patients and parents with decency and respect.

All I can say is wow. This is my second baby, first hospital was on big island with a bunch of nurses, and residents who lacked everything and more that a doctor should have. THIS hospital is one of the best experiences I ever had when being cared for myself, and for my babies. All the nurses, residents, and even security here are made for their jobs, they don’t lack any compassion, they have no room for negativity, and they are very informative. The food here is your average “hospital food” spiced up and you’re given the option of a free upgrade from their cafe menu, as well as the option to run to the food court and get Starbucks from them since their open 23 hours a day (yum) I was able to get birth control the day after my delivery in my room for my convenience, and never felt ashamed when i asked a question or found myself in a situation where I’d feel embarrassed. I highly recommend their birthing center, and pediatric care.

Kapiolani Medical Center is responsible for saving the lives of my 3 sons that were born very premature, weighing less than 2 pound each. Not only did they provide lifesaving care for them, the doctors and nursed provided the support we needed as parents. I would highly recommend this hospital.

Just go to Queens. Words to describe Dr. Carneys office & his receptionists -Inattentive -Disappointing -Unavailable -Dispassionate I had a surgery with Dr Carney and he has been one of the most absent doctors I have ever been a patient for. I was referred to him because he was the "Only Surgeon that could help me on island" So maybe its my fault for having the expectation that he would be helpful. Yes, he removed my 11 centimeter mass which I am so grateful for. However, the pre AND post operative experience has been severely subpar. At my initial consult they couldnt really answer any questions about my body due to lack of information about what was going on and was told that "they'd have a better idea after my ultrasound" and then put me in a consult room by myself had me sign a bunch of surgery consent forms without reviewing them with me and only instructed me on how to wash my body with chlorhexadine body wash before surgery. I was given no opportunity or appointment before surgery to ask questions. Dr Carney came in to say Hi and "I'll try my best to preserve your fertility" and not to be nervous, because he wasn't. No one forewarned me of the potential side effect that effects 75% of people post operatively. Which - how can you not warn someone about something that effects the majority??? So after surgery I started having severe chest pain and felt like I could hardly breath and I didn't even know to expect it. So instead I thought something was severely wrong with me. Only then did someone tell me that it is to be expected and should last between 24-48 hours. 48 hours went by and I'm still having severe lung pain - called the office and could only get ahold of his resident. (She was lovely by the way, and the most helpful out of everyone in the office) She said it was typical and "Probably not a blood clot" despite my mother suffering from blood clots and me having a blood clotting disorder. So I have good reason to be concerned about blood clots. A few more days go by, I am still having lung pain. I keep calling the office and no one answers my calls or messages. A week and a half goes by and I FINALLY get ahold of someone in the office. I told them I'm still having chest pain and I really want to speak to Dr Carney. She said I can't speak to him because he's on Maui - but she'll send him an email. I had also asked her to give me a work note and if she could please add on 3 more days off of work because at this point, I cant even walk across my house without feeling short of breath and in tons of pain, let alone attempt to go to work. She hit me with an attitude so bad that I swear those 3 days were coming directly out of her PTO. (By the way, I'm over 3 weeks post op and I STILL don't have my work note and I have asked for it 3 times) Anyway, even after she sent him an email about my chest pain that i've had for over a week and a half, no one called me back STILL. So I went to see my PCP, who also tried to get ahold of him and wasn't able to, so I eventually ended up going to the urgent care and the ER because of my elevated blood clotting levels. So now not only was I terrified for my health for 2 weeks, but i'm saddled with ER & Urgent care bills on top of surgical bills because no one would call me back to answer my questions and concerns. Two weeks alter, I am finally able to get ahold of Dr. Carney for my "recheck" appointment via telehealth. He sounded distracted, unimpressed, and unenthused by my call. He wasn't able to answer most of my questions specific to my case and told me "I dont know" to a lot of questions he should know the answer to. I am left feeling like I received such subpar care and communication because I am a "one and done" surgery that wont be a continuous stream of revenue for them since I don't have cancer. Never in my life have I had such an absent surgeon or doctor. I got better answers from google. Completely unacceptable. My health may not be as important to you, but I was genuinely terrified for my life and my surgeon couldn't even call me back.

“The pain that you are feeling is not an emergency!” Those words, from an emergency room doctor, employed by the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children; reverberated throughout my psyche all the way home as the feeling of hopelessness, disbelief, anger, despair, and frustration surrounded the incessant pain in the left side of my body. “The pain that you are feeling is not an emergency.” His Ego, his annoyance, and his conceited persona was so inflated that he didn’t even realize that he just turned this into a negligence legal suit. I asked him to administer a parasite test and he refused. Why is my case considered an emergency? Because, the only foods that I can ingest are liquid and or mushy foods, such as baby food.

The best in infant care and childbirth! We gave birth to baby 8 weeks earlier than expected and were thrown into a whirlwind of the unexpected. The caring and encouraging staff taught us how to care for our preemie and eased our anxiety.

I see why hospitals get backed up. I been waiting for 20 minutes and no ,one came to see me. I can hear the staff laughing and telling stories. That's how I was mis diagnosed the last time.

I wish i wasn’t writing this, but I am actively dying because of what was done to me at Kapiolani hospital ER from November-December of 2020. They prescribed me 4 different antibiotics back to back consecutively for severe bladder pain, some being IV. I later looked at my chart and it said inconclusive for UTI..meaning, i didn’t even need all those antibiotics that obliterated all my gut bacteria causing a severe cdiff infection.. I went back to them twice after this begging them To test me twice for Cdiff and they dismissed me telling me i didn’t have it when i did. Finally after going to them Twice and begging them To test me for cdiff they did and guess what? I tested positive 😭Due to all the antibiotics i received, i developed a severe life threatening cdiff infection that lasted 2 years straight where i Almost died. because my body had to fight so hard and for so long, i lost all function. I can so longer regulate my immune system, autonomic nervous system, bowel or bladder, i am completely bedridden, i can’t do anything on My own, i cannot walk. and there is no cure to my new disease brought on by chronic cdiff. I only have a few months left to live and i am only 35 years old. Kapiolani ER literally killed me. I had my whole life ahead of me.

I originally went in for a birth control consultation at their out patient facility, after expressing some concerns about some issues I'd been having Dr. Yang and the resident Dr. thoroughly examined my condition and recommended blood work to further address the issue. The same day I had blood drawn I received a call to follow-up on my condition, during which they recommended I go to the ER. When I got there, the intake doctors were already up to date on everything and had a room ready. After more testing it was determined that I'd need to have a procedure done to correct the issue which was scheduled for the very next morning. Everything went smoothly and I was released from the hospital, as someone who doesn't like going to the hospital or being prodded at by doctors I have to say that Kapi'olani provided me with the best medical treatment I've ever had. Every member of the staff I encountered was extremely kind, compassionate and sensitive to my situation. I'm extremely grateful for everything they did to help. (Also it's pretty cool that Obama was born there)

I got charged multiple times for the same visit. When I called the hospital about the billing problem I didn't realize that it was 6:30 there. The lady answered and was very rude. I didn't say anything mean and I was genuinely just asking a question and she replied very rudely and hung up on me. I get it's early but that is unacceptable. As well as my service was not satisfactory. I got there and essentially was told by the doctor that it wasn't an emergency. I went to the emergency room because I went to the quick Care and they told me to go to the emergency room. Eventually I got checked in and was sitting in a room for hours. Where they did a bunch of tests and one of my tests came back as irregular. And instead of looking into this they sent me home. The doctor didn't even mention the test, the only way I knew it was a regular was because mychart said it was. It's unacceptable that a hospital would leave a person feeling worse coming out than they did going in.

Got my card information stolen from an ultrasound technician the day of my ultrasound appointment, found out later on that day that she had ordered $90 worth of jewelry from a company online. Definitely will not be leaving my belongings in the room again next time an ultrasound tech asks me to use the bathroom. SMH

doctor prescribed medicine for my infant who has acid reflux. we drive an hour from the north shore to pick up the medicine because this is the only place this medicine can be made. the pharmacists fail to notify us of the storage requirements for the medicine so by the time we get home from chores in town all day and go to medicate our infant son we see that the medication needs to be refrigerated. we are disappointed and call the pharmacist to see if it has been too long. of course it had been and the medicine we picked up that day was already expired. they tell us we can come back and pick up more medicine another day. today we come back to pick up medicine, we call first in the morning to confirm because the medicine has to be made so that we can pick it up. we drive down to town and the medicine is made, we show up for a simple exchange. they tell us it will be a one hundred dollar charge, for it is too soon to refill the medication. because they can’t do their job we have to pay an extra one hundred dollars so that our baby will eat. we are in the process of making a claim with insurance. the insurance should charge the pharmacy for such bad and dishonest behavior. but either way we are out five hours worth of driving and thirty dollars in gas. shame on these people. at the minimum you should say that it will cost one hundred dollars to refill, now you guys have wasted medicine and we our time

I had my c section done over here at Kapiolani for the first time by my obg DrTexeira from Kaneohe Straub her team with Dr Lee he did my Epidural. They did an amazing job on my surgery. It was so quick I was immediately relieved and I felt safe. I was worried because I had 2 other c sections that were done at Castle that just didn’t sit well with me from before and I was just nervous about how this would turn out but knowing how this c section went I would highly recommend here because they truly do specialize for the Women and children. Didn’t feel no pain. Quick and precise. The procedure didn’t feel like it took forever. Mahalo to Dr Texeira and Dr Lee and the staff. They did an amazing job and made my baby and I feel safe and well taken cared of!

I can’t count how many times we visit this hospital for many reasons from having a baby there, lots of medical reasons for my child, etc. and the doctors have been good, staff has been good, scheduling is HARD, but the 2 downfalls of this place is #1- trying to get someone from imaging on the dang phone and #2- clinical labs in the dungeon of the hospital!!! We have tests done annually for the past 10+ years and it is my least favorite thing to do with Kapiolani for both departments.

My husband and I were on Oahu over the week of Thanksgiving. Late one of the nights I couldn't fall asleep due to difficulty breathing. There were no urgent care clinics open, so we went to the ER at Kapi'olani Medical Center to get me checked out. From start to finish, the team was amazing. They were incredibly thorough in their assessment of me, respected my wishes as I presented them, and were timely. I could not be more grateful for the nurses and doctors there who took care of me, especially given that we were there from out of town! The billing process was smooth and extremely reasonable which I'm also grateful for!

Staying in the hospital for the G-tube procedure and recovery of my daughter was indeed an impressive experience. The doctors, nurses, front desk staff, cleaners and cafeteria workers were super in doing their jobs. Making our 5-day confinement a blast. The doctors knew what they were doing while the nurses and nursing assistants were always ready to help. Again a big THANK YOU to you all. I hope and pray that you will continue your passionate work in making others live a better, healthier lives.

Great modern facility with ample parking in nearby structure. We have had great luck other the doctors and specialist that practice in the complex. Drop off and pick up area is usually manned and very convenient. Lobby staff is friendly and has been following protocols for Covid. elevators van get crowded especially since they can only allow 2 per and there are two main ones. Parking rates are not bad compared to other places like the Pan Am building which is so expensive it reminds me of parking at a hotel resort or Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco. Okay that was an exaggeration but it is pricey at Pan Am building.

In comparison to Queens, Kapiolani's covid policies and procedures was lacking there was no flow, we had to look for the sign for where to get a mask..although there were signs it wasn't visually helpful...I am just comparing the two because I regularly go to Queens they've been consistent with their covid policies and they seem to be more approachable and receptive which is a customer service skill that some Kapiolani staff can learn. Thank you.
