First
the
good.
I
was
to
scheduled
to
have
serious
back
surgery,
rods,
fused
vertebrae,
canal
cleaning.
I
arrived
from
Big
Island,
alone,
no
family
or
friends.
My
only
contact
was
my
phone.
Wouldn’t
you
know,
in
the
frustration
of
the
moment
I
left
it
in
the
Uber
car.
I
was
panic
stricken.
The
first
door
and
first
person
I
found
was
named
Pau.
She
spent
what
seemed
like
an
eternity
trying
to
make
a
connection
with
Uber.
Finally,
I
spoke
with
the
driver
and
she
agreed
to
drop
off
my
phone,
right
before
my
surgery.
I
can’t
tell
you
how
appreciative
I
was
for
her
going
the
extra
mile,
and
compassionately
at
that.
She
was
remarkable!!!
Thanks
Pau!!
The
rest
of
the
staff
treated
me
well.
Now
the
downer.
I
was
not
given
any
idea
of
a
concrete
discharge
date.
Then,
suddenly
(the
day
after
my
surgery)
it
was
announced
that
I
was
discharged.
That
was
contrary
and
contradictory
to
info
I
had
been
given.
Here
I
was
in
a
strange
city,
no
friend/family,
no
hotel,
no
travel
date
affirmed
and
I
was
“kicked
out”.
This
was
on
top
of
serious
pain
and
back
surgery.
Speaking
with
nurses
and
staff,
I
was
referred
to
the
case
worker.
The
case
worker
was
no
help
and
didn’t
show
any
signs
of
compassion.
I
was
not
given
any
rehab
instructions.
Finally
scrambling
in
desperation
I
made
air
travel
and
hotel
arrangements.
The
airline
and
hotel
staff
were
very
considerate
and
compassionate
and
did
all
they
could
to
assist
me.
My
recovery
in
in
progress…
very
painful,
much
left
up
to
me.
Hopefully
the
surgeon
did
a
better
job
than
the
patient
care.
