Just like everything on the island you need reservations. For Parking and the hike. Make them or you'll walk from the absolute bottom before the tunnel.

Definitely worth the effort! You need reservations. Depending on when you go, before sunrise or closest to it is best. I went last week, sunrise was 5:45 am and the 6 am time was the earliest and the best. I took a bus to Diamond head and walked in my sparkly Tom shoes all the way to entrance and then did hike. It took me 2 hrs but I took my time taking a lot of photos and even for other people. lol. I wasnโ€™t too sure how difficult it would be but I would say its a moderate hike with some uneven rocky ground and incline walking so only recommend for people who can walk in this type of landscape. I saw kids and someone with a cane walking this so it is totally possible just know your own physicality. Take your time, take breaks, wear sunscreen, a hat, comfy shoes and have enough water on you. I was heading down around 7:30 am and it was not as comfortable because of the heat. I canโ€™t imagine doing a later timed hike. My tip - Take scenic route to lookout and then the steep stairs down or scenic route back. The steep stairs donโ€™t really get you up there that much faster and itโ€™s harder on knees going up than going down.

Great views are worth the hike. Reservations needed, but were easy to get online (much simpler than Hanuma Bay and USS Arizona). Get the reservations with parking included. Our time was for 4pm, but we arrived 30 minutes early and they simply scanned our ticket and we got hiking. The hike was a bit tricky at times due to the very uneven path, but was nothing too difficult. Take water and you should be fine. It was a hot hike, but the view and refreshing wind at the top are totally worth it! Only place that it was busy was at the top, but everyone took their pictures and stepped aside, so it was not an issue. My teens really enjoyed doing this hike and it was a nice change from the beach.

A very strenuous hike to the rim rewards you with spectacular views of Honolulu, Waikiki and the surrounding mountains.

You can enjoy the trail while admiring the scenery. Even trail beginners can enjoy it without getting too tired. Once you reach the top, you can see a panoramic view of Waikiki Beach. Admission fee is $5 per person plus tax. It's hot during the day, so we recommend visiting early in the morning or in the evening. Water is essential.

Definitely a must-do for first-time tourists! It's a relatively easy hike with lots of parking. Tickets are mandatory to enter the park that can be bought in the beginning. I recommend going early morning when the heat isn't at its peak. Overall incredible views and an interesting walk up

Great views, easy hike. To preface, Iโ€™m no hiker myself. However this hike was easy with nice views. Overall I would allocate an 1-1.5 hrs of your time for this hike! I would say the first 25% of the hike is paved and the other 75% is a combination of stairs and trails. Ensure you buy tickets for the right time slot before hand! Also if you take an Uber, the driver will drop you off before the tunnel to the base of the trail so be prepared to walk 10 minutes to get to the ticketing booth.

Hit it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ! Must do hike. Definitely going to be some work getting to the top but very manageable. Go up for sunrise. Will be really busy no matter what. If you don't mind the extra walk you can save parking money by walking in. Beautiful views from an iconic spot.

Amazing view. Not too bad the hike. It looks a lot worst than what it really is. But once on top is totally worth the hike. It is totally breathtaking

Reservations are required. Best time to go is early in the morning. We went at 10am and found that it was already too hot. It's a fairly easy hike and there are two different sets of stairs that aren't difficult, but with the heat, they take a toll. Breathtaking views await you at the top. Make sure you go to the very top for the best view.

On our first morning in Honolulu we woke up at 4am and couldnโ€™t fall back to sleep, so we decided to walk all the way from our hotel in Waikiki to the top of Diamond Head. We did not reserve a ticket in advance and had no trouble getting in. The hike is quite manageable with paved walkways in some areas and many places to step to the side and rest if needed. Views are absolutely gorgeous. We treated ourselves at the bottom to an aรงaรญ bowl from the food truck, and enjoyed it with the crater towering behind us. 4 stars because even at the crack of dawn, this trail is packed, which detracts a bit from the otherwise enlivening experience.

Itโ€™s not a hard hike but it can be really hot if you do it late afternoon. View from top is amazing and worth the hike. Purchase ticket in advance especially if youโ€™re going in with your car.

Such a beautiful hike. The views canโ€™t be beat. It can be strenuous going up; itโ€™s a 560ish elevation gain with a lot of steps. Wouldnโ€™t recommend for people with mobility issues but if you can handle a lot of stairs and some inclines it is so worth it.

Stunning natural environment, wild beach and pleasant tour.

Iconic hike with amazing views of downtown Honolulu $5 per person to access the park (can be booked online). I managed to book a slot on the morning I visited but it seems that slots can book up quickly. The info suggests that 1.5hrs required to complete the hike - we managed it in around 1hour. Pathways are in good condition with handrails in most places to make access possible for all. We also walked from Waikiki beach so didnโ€™t need to bother with taxi / bus. Views are spectacular throughout the route and Iโ€™d recommend as a โ€˜must-doโ€™ on a trip to Honolulu ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

Having some amazing views over Honolulu and Waikiki beach this is well worth the walk. The path towards it is well paved and nothing out of the ordinary for persons with reasonable health. It can be a bit crowded at the viewing platform so best to go in the morning when not that many are around.

Solid hike, not too difficult and nice and quick. You get an amazing view at the end. Obviously a very touristy thing to do. Make sure you have a res. Go online. I saw someone get turned away. I literally went online and booked it than called my Uber. I got lucky. You definitely want to wear shoes. Maybe a water bottle. Itโ€™s not too intense. I saw people with backpacks which confused me. Itโ€™s about an hour and change up and down. Put this on your list! Aloha!

You cannot skip this park / hike if you stay in Oahu. Itโ€™s about a $20 rideshare from Waikiki beach. The path itself doesnโ€™t always have plentiful seating areas once you start the trail, so make sure youโ€™re at least moderately fit or well-rested to make the full climb. There also are long periods of walking with very little shade, so if you are fearful of the sun / sunburns then try to get here before sunrise.

Amazing place to visit and hike! Great view for the lookout area and along the path. It rained heavily during our hike, so not everything was visible (Recommend ponchos just in case)

Very fun hike. In my opinion, it was an easy hike to the top. There are some ups and downs but overall not bad at all. I came twice. Advanced reservations are required for out of state visitors so that is something to keep in mind. I didnโ€™t think the entrance staff wasnโ€™t as friendly as my first visit so that was kind of eehhhhh for me. Otherwise, it was an overall good experience.

Great experience! The trail is NOT easy. Our group consisted of 2 -56 year olds, a visually impaired 31 year old and a 76 year old. It was pretty difficult but we made it. Donโ€™t recommend doing it in the heat of the day. That was one of the worse things. Make sure you take lots of water.and good shoes. Also use the bathroom before going up too. Happy Hiking!

Very good 360 degree view of the island, On a sunny day you will be able to see the closest neighboring island to the east once you reach the top. The hike is not difficult and you can take your time to go up, in case you are not in shape you might feel out of breath a little but you can definitely complete it. Not much sun covarage so wear your sun protection. I wish that the state would invest more money into it because the place has such potential. AT THE MOMENT RESERVATION IS REQUIRED. Got ours 2 days prior.

What can I say, this was an amazing experience. The views coupled with the military history makes for a great hike. Definitely bring water, sun screen, and good shoes as parts of the trail can be steep or rough. Also, make sure to check out both the bunk and upper observation areas.

Reservations required to park. $16.40 per vehicle. So much to see along the trail - birds, views. Take your time to enjoy the hike. History is interesting to read. World war defense still present.

Nice simple hike, featuring very spectacular views. Nothing too special, until the end where you can walk 99 steps or a long trail to the top. You can see Koko Head, another crater, or Waikiki, and a lot more! I would recommend this hike a lot.

A great walk that can push you a little, but my two little children completed it! So grab some sunscreen, a bottle of water and dig deep...because the views are worth it!!!

It took about an hour and a half to get up and down. It's not easy as it's hot and the slope is steep, but the view from the top is beautiful so I think it's worth going. The stairs just before the top were the most difficult. There are places where you can take a break if you feel tired. It's hot, so water is essential, and there are no restrooms while climbing, so be careful. Reservations are required from the official website and cost $5 per person without parking. There are buses running near the trailhead, so it's easy to get there from Waikiki Beach.
