I went on this tour some months ago now, but the owner keeps deleting my reviews, so I will continue to post them in the hope others might see this before it is deleted again. I often see other negative reviewers saying the same thing. My wife and I have been on many food tours in our travels, however this was appalling. For a tour costing over $100/person we were provided less than $10 worth of food in six 'tastes' - many of which were a single serve shared with everyone on the tour using toothpicks! The tour guide and driver were very enthusiastic and friendly. The majority of the tour was Asian street food in chinatown, served adjacent to stinking dumpsters, but we also had the opportunity to sample a steamed bun and sugar coated doughnut from a bakery. At the end of the tour we had to go out and find something proper to eat. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Giovanni Mazzarella was our CCA (Certified Culinary Aficionado) and he was AWESOME! He had a great attitude from the moment he picked us up to the moment he dropped us off! He had a smile the entire day; he had an answer for every question; he had a napkin for every bite; he was on top of EVERYTHING throughout the entire day! We would highly recommend this food tour as we learned a ton, ate the best food and had a blast making great memories in Honolulu!!!! 10 out of 10! We would 100% go back! He shared us the entire trip within hours of completing it and even shared a few awesome recipes to try at home!!!!!! He provided his best restaurant list for us to try with various categories depending on your mood!

The Hole In The Wall tour is well worth the price. I recommend booking this tour during your first or second day of vacation because the guides often recommend many great places to eat and things to do during your stay. Matthew, Dennis, and Joy were fantastic guides, and Matthew and Dennis are chefs, so they really know what they're talking about. You will travel mostly on an air conditioned shuttle, which we thought was great b/c it allowed us to visit many parts of Honolulu, including China Town. All the food is amazing, and The Hubs and I found ourselves re-visiting China Town, esp. the Royal Kitchen, many times during our week in Waikiki. After doing the food tour, I felt much more confident navigating China Town! Our guides recommend a few restaurants that we actually tried later in the week and they were absolutely fantastic, including House Without A Key, Sasabune, and Romy's Shrimp. This is a very professional and organized food tour. Top Notch!! Okole Maluna!

Enthusiastic tour guide. Personable and accommodating. Knowledgeable of his area as well. We felt like Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations. Food portions seemed a bit on the small side to us. Half a pot sticker, really? And two bites of Korean BBQ? Barely woke our taste buds. Enjoyed the tour of Chinatown but felt a little rushed. Expected a 4 hour tour for the price point. Glad we topped ours off with a visit to Foster Gardens. Overall, it was an interesting and unique way to spend a morning in Hawai'i.

This food tour should be called Asian food tour instead of the hole in the wall food tour. Almost all of the places we went to were in Chinatown. Being Chinese, I thought the food was pretty good, comparable to the Chinese food I've grown up with. I wish there were more food however, I was left hungry by the end. Also, it was advertised on the website that we will have "The best Korean barbecued chicken in the world"- but we didn't have any Korean bbq. All in all, if you were in town and wanted something fun to do and don't mind spending some good coin AND you are not familiar with Asian food, then you can go on this tour. The host was pretty knowledgeable and friendly and prepared. But otherwize, you could save your money and get a lot of delicious food around town by yourself too! Mahalo!

I love, love, love The Famous Hole-in-the-Wall tour! It’s even better the second time around. It’s the perfect way to learn about the rich history and beautiful cultures of Hawaii. The food stops are unique and will awaken your palette with delicious yumminess. Gio was amazing. He was very professional, knowledgeable and personable. He has a great rapport with the proprietors. You can’t help but feel his passion for food and life. I’m looking forward to my third tour. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I recently booked the Hole in the Wall Food whilst we were visiting Honolulu. We had the most amazing few hours with Gio who went beyond expectations in making you feel comfortable, encouraging you to mingle and of course explaining the background to each of the foods and the vendors that supplied them. Also so impressive was Gio's self fashioned cart and accompanying bags where he managed to provide any item that the guests on the food tour could possibly need (and more). Antibacterial wipes, napkins, cold water, sorbet ice cream, special accompaniments ... Not only was the food at each stop so delicious but the overall experience from pick up to drop off back at our hotel was outstanding. Thanks again

This tour was great! It is a great way to taste various foods that you might not try on your own. Our tour guide Gio was awesome and very knowledgeable for a first timer to Hawaii like myself. We ended up going to the Manapua stop the next day because it was so good!

This food tour was amazing. We got the chance to try some of the local household favorites from Hawaii. Our tour guide Gio was the man and he absolutely loves his job and life in general. He was so happy the entire day and his infectious smile and personality really carried over to everyone on the tour. He was really great at gauging people's tastes and was able to tell me what my favorite bite of the day would be, and he was spot on. All the food was delicious, but he said the Manapuas would be my favorite today and he was definitely correct. After the tour was done and Gio dropped us off a few of us walked back to the first stop, Chun Wah Kam, and bought a bunch more Manapuas to take back to the resort with us. If you enjoy trying new food or just great food in general, do yourself a favor and book this tour with Gio.

Had a great time on the Hole in the Wall Tour. We went places that we never would have found on our own and the food was amazing. Gio was so personable and really informative.Looking forward to the next time.

We are so grateful our daughter insisted we take the Hole In The Wall food tour. From the moment we met our culinary guide Gio we knew we were in good hands. The places you will go, the food you will eat, the people you will meet, the things you will learn about the culture meld that is Hawai’i come together to make this time well spent. Treat yourself. And do it early in your visit. You will want to go back to each of the stops again

LOVED this tour! If you are visiting from out of town, this will give you a view of Honolulu out of the tourist's path. If you live here (like me), this will introduce you to new places that you will surely go back to. And they follow up with a list of recommended restaurants, and recipes! Special kudos to our delightful tour guide, Gio. He is full of entertaining anecdotes about the history of the area as well as the local food scene. When we have friends come visit, we will definitely be sending them on this tour.

My husband and I (traveling from Seattle, WA) attended this tour on 10/24. Gio is AMAZING! We ate, laughed, and gain tons of food knowledge.

We had a great day today! To say that Gio, our guide, loved his job would be an understatement! He was VERY attentive to our needs and tastes. Great advice on restaurants, local food and produce. He shared great stories and was most helpful in learning about Hawaii culture. I would recommend to anyone!

Great food tour; well-planned schedule with an enthusiastic tour guide who obviously knew what he was talking about. The best part is the post-tour availability for recommendations! They gave great tips for places to go outside Honolulu, and in a very timely manner. The tour was based heavily in Chinatown, so be prepared for that! The food was all excellent; I plan on going back for everything we had on the tour.

Being my first Food Tour, I was not disappointed! This Famous Hole-in-the-Wall Food Tour headed by Gio was delicious from the get-go! Exploring Chinatown as a local is not something I would have figured out on my own. The Char Siu (Hong Kong BBQ Pork) was my favorite but honestly, I loved it all. Gio was friendly, knowledgeable and a real pleasure to hang around with! I highly recommend this unique, tantalizing and entertaining food excursion to everyone. A great way to spend the day!

What an awesome time! We loved our Hawaiian food tour! We really didn’t expect to eat so much but by the time it was over, we were stuffed! Our tour guide Gio was friendly, knowledgeable and took care of every last detail. What a great guy! We’re so glad we toured on our first day because we got familiar with the area and obtained great recommendations for where to eat for the remainder of our stay! If you want an authentic taste of Hawaii, this is for you!

Wow, this was an incredible experience and the best thing I did in Honolulu. I cannot recommend it highly enough! My family lives in Hawaii, but this trip was the first time I decided to do some more sightseeing and get out of the norm of chillax home time w/ the fam, so my good friend and I signed up for this highly rated food tour. This was just unreal. So delicious! Gio was our tour guide, and his knowledge of and enthusiasm about local food was so fun to hear about and TASTE! He seemed to personally know most of the store and restaurant owners where we visited, knew literally everything that was in every dish we ate, spoke to us about different cooking methods and spices and the varied history of all the things we ate, and did some cooking and prep for us himself! This is such a great tour. Also, Gio was just the right amount of enthusiastic and chill. I've been on other types of tours where the tour guides are just way over the top, loud, cheesy, and trying too hard. Gio was just super friendly and informed and a delight. I appreciated his vibe and his clear joy of food. Also, there were about 8 of us on the tour, which was just the right number of people. This is the best thing you'll do in Honolulu, I promise.

This tour was fantastic, and our guide Gio was even better! Very knowledgeable about Hawaii, food and the culture! We sampled several different foods. This tour has a lot of walking with it as well, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. You are able to go onto several vendor shops and markets to purchase things on your own as well. Gio gave us several recommendations. He also summarized all the places we went and emailed those to us after the trip. He was fantastic!! Definitely recommend this tour!

Our tour guide, Gio, was very engaging, knowledgeable, and charismatic. Introduction to the foods we would not ever have had a chance to taste anywhere else was a great experience. Will highly recommend to friends and acquaintances traveling to Oahu.
