Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is also known as Honolulu International Airport (HNL). This Airport is basically the gateway to Hawaii. The airport has undergone expansion and modernization in recent years. It is a great Airport with excellent management allowing travelers to have a great experience passing through. There are many shops and restaurants to enjoy. The Airport is kept clean, great signage to help you get to your destination. If you find my review helpful please give me a thumbs-up 👍 Thank you!!

One of the more enjoyable airports to go through! The flow of traffic is quick and easy and the layout allows you to get around to shop and eat while waiting for your departure. The biggest highlight is the outdoor Cultural Gardens. As you can see, the large, outdoor area gives you plenty of space and options to walk around and enjoy before your flight. You almost forget you are at an airport when sitting in the middle. The Gardens are tranquil and can be easily explored, with loads of Koi and ducks as well. A great distraction if you need something else besides shopping and eating. A definite MUST to visit when at the airport!

Personally was pretty happy with my experience here. Yes a little out dated but it has all the necessary things. Best part were the shamble staff and rental car area. Rental car area was right across, very clean and well organized. Staff were helpful, understanding and polite. Only underlying factors were toilets needed more cleanliness and airport terminals were small for bigger flights. The terminals were crowded than usual because of this. One other aspect was that there was no AC in the airport. It was all open airport. All in all this airport has its own history and it’s beautiful in its own way.

The process to getting through with verification was effortless! Even with additional steps for COVID-19 requirements by the state it was very well organized! That being said I hope all travelers are mindful and respectful of local regulations especially when it comes to sacred locations and protected nature and wildlife!

The signage to baggage claim was very confusing. You actually have to go outside and down the stairs. The rideshare location was easy to find based on the announcements “across from carousel 18” and upstairs and across the street. This is one of the most beautiful airports in the world. There’s actually a garden in the midst of it. Update: lobby 5 and 8 are ride share pickup points according to airport personnel.

Airport is very old and clearly showing its age. They have started renovations but the actual airport itself is just falling apart. It leaks everywhere when it rains. But the airport has a very unique feel to it as there are very few open air airports in the world and the central garden area is great to just walk around in to relax. Unfortunately due to the open air nature of the airport it is always loud and you can never get away from the sound of jet engine turbines no matter where in the airport you go aside from the newer Hawaiian Airlines terminal which is fully closed structure.

Nice airport, everybody was very nice. Now that the flu has gone the shops are open and the restaurants are serving again. Very clean and well run. Good shops and friendly people. It’s got a real nice atmosphere that actually makes flying fun(ish)

Some of the terminals are a bit dated. I liked how ticketing at the older terminal was indoors yet open to the outdoors as was some walkways to some gates with a garden. Hawaiian Airlines does have a newer terminal but shops not finished yet. The rental car center is updated and makes it easy to pick up and return rental cars.

Slightly old airport but the check in and everything is pretty smooth and quick. Do not miss the Japanese and Chinese gardens on the ground floor once you're airside. It's so lush and peaceful. Quite possibly the most beautiful gardens in any airport, rivalling Changi airport in Singapore

Life the garden and the big trees inside the terminal. Airport is kinda old, but still quite charming. There’s a public bus for USD 3 to the city (no 20 and 303). The bus stop is located in front of the lobby 4 (2nd floor). Bus don’t run often (about every half an hour).

Flight coming from japan by ANA airline and transfer to NY airport. There was a very long walk to the custom and have to get all my luggages back to check in again even transfer to other usa domestic flights. There was no path to stay inside the airport after customs. The only way was directed to the landside, then a long wait to drop off the luggages back to UA counters. Another long way to walk to the security checkpoint. We spent 1 hour more walking and standing for this transit. It was quit hot at that moment. There was no AC during the wait. There was no fun at all when having kids with me and with knee pain.

Nothing wrong that I experienced here. This airport is a little dated but the zen garden makes up for it when you land. All your airport needs are here. Smaller airport than other big cities but that's ok too. Great airport, great staff, nice terminals, what more can you ask for? Glad it's there for us all to fly in and out of.

How fabulous it is to be a American express platinum card holder. Today we flew from Honolulu to Los Angeles and spent some time at the delta lounge. Absolute fabulous food and service beyond our expectations. 10 people in the lounge, and the same amount of wonderful people serving us. The staff from entering the lounge, to the very accommodating staff was very wonderful. After having our lunch, (the chicken salad was outstanding), we mentioned how wonderful it would be to have a dessert. 5 minutes later a really cute guy came over with some fresh baked macadamia nut cookies. I've got to say: fabulous!!!!!!!! Thank you so much Delta and the staff at the Delta lounge in Honolulu. Andree

Everybody here was so incredibly helpful. Because of covid and all of the strict instructions and steps that you need to complete in order to just land on one of the islands, you absolutely need someone to help you through the process. Everyone at Honolulu international airport that I came into contact with was so helpful they helped me through the paperwork I needed from my testing site they helped me with my vaccination paperwork they helped me with everything that I needed in order to enjoy my stay on the island. If you aren't sure about something just ask one of the very helpful people in the blue Hawaiian shirts that represent the airport and they will help you all they can. Every single person that I had a question for went above and beyond their duty to help me out. It really did create a wonderful beginning to a magical stay on the island.

✈One of the most unorganized and congested airports I've ever had the experience of using 😰 however, I give a thumbs up to the first class sitting Lounge with a little suggestion, please add donuts or a snack in addition to the beverages that you offer please, Hawaiian Airlines! I would have given it only two stars otherwise.

This airport is great, super fast getting through TSA, checking bags, boarding, landing, everything! The staff are very nice, and made it so easy to get to our flight. I have no problems with HNL! (they also have two starbucks'!!)

It's a nice airport. Had to wait a couple hours till our flight. Calming music and quiet atmosphere made it easy to fall asleep while waiting. No one ever wants to go back home after vacation....but till next time. MAHALO! HAWAII.

My expectations of Daniel K. Inouye Intl. Airport was high before flying into it. However that all quickly dissipated when I saw how limited the airport was. The airport itself is clean, well designed and has good signage. Getting from one gate to another gate is straight forward and can be done quickly. Their baggage claim area is nice and gets the job done. The lighting in the airport is decent but makes the concourses look dull and depressing. However one of the bright spots to this airport is that it has been remodeled and upgraded as to not show its age. The airport is welcoming and has several memorabilia that honors Hawaii’s history and legacy. There are strategic locations where you have access to fresh air from outdoors. You can stand at a balcony and feel the cool breeze. Another thing to consider is that there aren't many restaurants or store to choose from so your options are limited. Overall, a decent airport but it's not paradise, it's simply a airport that's meant to get you to your destination

Dated airport with lots of island charm. During covid, state screening is "thorough" - staff is super friendly and helpful. Not a ton of food choices but enough to get by. Charming outdoor gardens provide a nice place to eat and social distance during waits. Massage chairs everywhere, too

TSA was really quick. It depends on what time you go, but they are overall very fast. They refurbished the terminal and security area. It looks really nice. You can get some cool shots from the terminal once the sun starts to set.

There are parts of the airport that will welcome you with the tropical heat of the outdoors so be aware of that. The food court in the airport does not have an array of options so if you can eat before arriving to the airport. Very accessible points for ride share when landed. The staff are very friendly and professional.

This is the international airport for Oahu. Very well and ingeniously organized. The airport runs several levels to cater to various services. Especially impressive is their organization of rental cars. No need for a shuttle (for Delta, American Airlines did require a short shuttle drive. But a common shuttle for all rental cars). It would help for them to provide more signs considering that most of their clients are tourists. We had to ask for directions a few times to get to departures. Overall a great experience!

I do not know why but I love the open air nostalgic feel of this airport. In some respects it’s old and dated. It also only has a limited number of eating options. However, it does have some good retail. The planes feel very close like you can touch them.

Beautiful airport with an open roof and no windows facing the airfield. Great for airplane watching or getting up close photos. The cultural garden is also very nice.

The open-air portions of this terminal are a real treat to walk by on the way to the gates! Landscaping is on point. Security might look at you funny if you take photos, but it’s cool to see your (Delta) airplane’s tail on the way inside! Security is a breeze. Delta SkyPriority lanes are nice, and right next to Southwest’s always crowded check in counters so it really feels like you zip by! Terminal is crowded, but there’s enough seating even for a packed 757-200. Probably people standing for 767s and 757-300 though.

Overall, I think it is a nice airport. The open design gives you a true Hawaiian feeling as soon as you walk in or get off your plane. My particular issue is with the airlines. The customer service for two different airlines left a lot to be desired!

The standard of the airport is average. As the main airport of all Hawaiian islands, I expected it to have a bit of a Hawaiian vibe in the architecture with colourful decorations which I found missing. During peak season and hours it does get busy. There may be quite a bit of walking to do if you are in transit. Also I wish there were more restaurants and shops. Most of them are closed as soon as it gets dark. One nice thing about this airport is that the rental car facility is at walking distance which saves a lot of time getting in and out of the airport.

Just made a quick stop here for a connecting flight. Was impressed with the airport just the little bit I was there. Everything is super spread out in the airport and very clean. Everyone I worked with here was very friendly.

Leaving this airport in the morning really sucks. Nothing is open. They don’t allow us to bring drinks into the airport. At least allow us the opportunity to purchase food and drink. Maybe they had a shop open and I couldn’t find it. I will say it is cleaner than previous times coming through though that could be due to the darkness. But this airport is a first stop for a lot of none-Americans. You would think they would want it as nice as possible

Nice Airport but the food court in Terminal E is too small ...

The baggage claim area is very congested and they have over 3 flights at a time using the same baggage carousel. It's hard to practice social distancing while waiting for your bags! The airport looks old and run down, which was shocking to me considering the number of tourist. Flying out of Hawaii was a better experience. You have to arrive early though because your checked luggage must go through agricultural scanner. Do not take fruit or plants because they will not be allowed. It took a while for SW to turn on their kiosks but other than that, it was all good.
