Great tour. Our tour guide was a 3rd generation Japanese American older man. He was very knowledgeable! I feel this tour is better for older adults or young adults that love history. I did have a weird experience while exploring one of the homes. I was walking into the Filipino home and heard talking I expected to run into a group but no one was there. I got the chills and decided it was time to leave that house!

Nice outdoor museum with replica buildings from the diverse plantations that were in the area years ago. Very informative tour guide who provided us with tons of information and fascinating stories about the people who lived and immigrated there. Worth spending a few hours at the place.

Amazing piece of history to have a chance to walk through. Very nice to see that it is still here and still maintained for the children and visitors of today. It's been about 20 years since our family went to visit. Still receive the same sense of walking back in time and looking through the eyes of the people who helped make Hawaii what it has become. Please, to the caretakers, do not let this end. To all others, take a moment and be sure to experience this amazing chance to walk back in time.

Nice discovery! Outdoor displays consisted of moved or replica shacks to show how Asian and European immigrant sugar plantation workers lived. Indoor displays contained many informative maps, photos, and artifacts. Friendly staff. Very enjoyable and educational experience away from tourist crowds.

Grew up in a plantation camp on Kauai. It was really interesting learning more about our past. Our guide was fun and informative. Loved our tour.

Absolutely one of my favorite things I've done during the 3 times I've been to Oahu. The village has incredibly thoughtfully recreated and is so well cared for. My tour guide - among the last generation to grow up in a sugar plantation in Hawaii - genuinely enjoyed sharing his own experiences on a plantation as well as telling me about the village and history more broadly. The 2 hours flew by - I learned so much and had such a great time. (For context, I studied history in college - this is more than just a cursory overview, you really get to learn a lot about the life of people on the plantations)

I brought my mom here while she was visiting. We went on a Friday morning and it was quiet and not crowded which made it even more enjoyable. The lady working at the counter was super friendly and informative. We did a self guided tour and she gave us binder full of info about each place. I recommend visiting here, we learned alot of interesting facts about the island and how they lived long ago.

Great educational experience! There are 20 houses to tour, lots of walking so eat before you go. The tour guide Robert is very detailed in his presentation and does an amazing job. The replica of these houses were made with such an attention to detail and excellence. If you like to learn the history of the area, this is a great place to visit. Admission is $8 for military and $15 for tourists. The gift shop has many treasures. We bought a samuri doll and shipped it home. It was beautiful. The staff at the plantation village is very friendly. I would bring my group here when I return.

There is so much history to be told here and our guide did a fantastic job. The history crosses many ethnicities that have lived in Hawaii for years and you will learn the influence each one had on what makes up this beautiful paradise today.

If you love history, the Plantation Village is a great stop. The tour guides are not just knowledgeable, they are enthusiastic about Hawaiian history. These are multi-generational Hawaiian guides with their own perspectives of the aloha state. The grounds are small but interactive. Lots to see. Pre-pandemic, I am sure there was lots to touch as well. And how engaging to learn more about those who were born on and built the place where exotic escape is inevitable.

Lovely treasure of Hawaiian history. We had the pleasure of having Kenneth, a U.S. Veteran, to give us a wonderful and insightful tour of how Hawaii accumulated it cultural roots from immigrants working plantation farms.

Hidden gem! This is a great little "house zoo" style historical site. Wonderful to see the many cultures who worked in Hawaii's plantations. Buildings are well maintained and it was very clearly marked whether they were reconstructions/rehabilitations/etc. and where they were originally located. They also have lovely grounds and a small museum exhibit inside the visitor center.

Friendly staff, very informative and interesting. And they keep the place looking really nice. They have to lock up the homes or the homeless will move in.

Front desk person was really nice and helped direct us to the entrance to the tour. The walk through has plenty shading by the surrounding trees and the front desk was nice enough to provide mosquito repellent. The village is very interesting and the booklet provided was very informative.

Not too bad for a field trip with kids. Some things remind me of home growing up. It was fun having lots of kids getting excited about everything... The place is clean and a lot of little houses were clean and nicely maintained...Big patches of taro and not too many sugar cane...we found a star fruit and there's a lot of fruits growing.. The kids really enjoyed the tiger dance.

We didn’t do a guided tour because we were short on time, but we did get to talking to one of their lovely guides, Robert, in the gift shop. He’s a pleasure to talk to and even shared with us some star fruit to try. We’ll definitely be back again to get the tour experience and hopefully get him to show us around.

Very interesting display of photo's inside and the actual plantation workers living quarters on the outside. Interesting fact is that some Japanese were incarcerated on the island during the war next door to the POW's. This I did not know.

A nice outdoor museum to get a glimpse of how immigrants lived and worked in the historical sugar plantations in Hawaii. It’s very educational and worth visiting.

The tour guide was amazing! He grew up on the plantation, went to college, chose to return to work for the sugar company. Excellent communication of the history of sugar plantations in Hawaii and the people who lived and worked there.

This is a hidden gem on an island of gems. You'll learn more about the history of the different cultural groups that settled in Oahu in a shorter amount of time than anywhere else. I've gone twice, once when I lived there and once when I went back to visit. It's worth the drive. The guides are very knowledgeable. After you go, you'll be able to impress all your friends with your knowledge of the island and its people.

Had a wonderful time at HPV! My wife and her cousin joined me and we met the Director, who was wonderful and gave us a great overview, before going on a guided tour with Lance. Lance was absolutely exceptional. He was extremely knowledgeable and detailed with his tour and since he grew up on a plantation, he provided a lot of excellent first-hand commentary. Sometimes guides, in general, sound like they are going off of a script, but Lance was highly personable, insightful, jovial, and you could tell he catered his tour to his audience. Highly recommend taking the guided tour. There's a lot of great information to digest that is crucial to understanding Hawaii's history. Really liked how the property is laid out with all the different houses that show what was typical with different groups and eras. If you're interested in Hawaii history, this is a must-do visit.
