Amaaaazing! This place is sooo good! The Boco Moco is so delicious, I’ve never had vegan eggs before but I was very pleasantly surprised! The veggie bahn mi was also quite good as were their spring rolls. The broth in the wonton soup was perfect. I wasn’t crazy about the flavor of the wontons themselves but my husband really liked them so I guess it’s just a matter of preference. Will be coming here again. FYI they do have parking in the back of the restaurant so don’t park in the street and pay the meter like we did.

We found this vegetarian diner and discovered everything is actually vegan! The good: Food was served hot and well seasoned. The Passion Fruit iced tea was delicious! Service was friendly and quick. The not-so-good: Atmosphere was meh. Worn seat cushions. Not everything was in good repair. The ugly: It had just had a food inspection on September 18, 2023 which a "Conditional Approval" to continue was issued. Items discovered would be subject to a reinspection within 72 hours. The bathrooms were in need of some TLC as a cockroach ran across the floor and deep cleaning was needed. If you want to try this restaurant just be aware of some possible lingering deficiencies. There is free parking around the back. Prices were reasonable given it's Sep 2023. EDIT: After reading the publicly-available inspection report, available from the photo of the Conditional Inspection I can no longer recommend Simple Joy. There are some significant deficiencies and safety concerns that changed my recommendation. Hopefully they will correct these items soon. Read the report for yourself: 11 - food in good condition, safe, & unadulterated Comments: Observed moldy bread in refrigerator. CORRECTED ONSITE - Moldy bread discarded. ** Food is not safe, unadulterated, and honestly presented. 20 - proper cold holding temperatures Comments: Foods requiring temp control for safety observed held at unsafe temp in both deli top refrigerators and in TurboAir glass door refrig. See temp list. ** For cold holding, PHF not maintained at 41 F or less. 26 - toxic substances properly identified, stored, & used Comments: Observed two cans of household use aerosol pesticide on floor at cook line. USE ONLY INSECTICIDES THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY LABELLED OK TO USE IN A FOOD ESTABLISHMENT OR USE PROFESSIONAL PEST CONTROL SERVICE. ** Poisonous or toxic materials are being improperly used or applied. 36 - insect, rodents & animals not present Comments: Observed approx 10 live cockroaches in kitchen (under sink, on floor, on food prep surface of deli top refrig). Establishment has no professional pest control. PLEASE PROVIDE INVOICE FOR PROFESSIONAL PEST CONTROL TREATMENT FOR FOLLOW UP INSPECTION. Strongly recommend regular service. ** Premises are not maintained free of insects, rodents, and other pests. 37 - contamination prevented during food preparation, storage and display Comments: In Whirlpool Gold refrig, observed bag of raw potatoes stored in a pool of dirty water on bottom shelf of refrig. CORRECTED ONSITE - potatoes moved to higher shelf in refrig. DISCUSSED: either repair leak in refrig or do not store food on bottom shelf. ** Foods not stored away from potential contamination. 48 - hot & cold water available; adequate pressure Comments: No hot water available at left compartment of 3-comp sink where person in charge says dishes are washed. Hot water is available (128F) at middle and right compartments, but water starts and stops and does not have consistent pressure. HOT WATER AT LEAST 110F MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR WASHING DISHES AT 3-COMP SINK. ** The water source and the hot water generation system are not of sufficient capacity to meet the peak water demands of the food establishment.

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!! They give you a pitcher of water so you don't have to passive aggressively stare at the waiter for them to refill your cup (s). The food is also fantastic and the menu is a bit odd in that it has variety from multiple cuisines but the food is great. The waitress I had the first time went above and beyond and you could tell that she really cared about the restaurant and the diner's experience. (attached photos so you can get an idea of serving sizes).

Was amazed at the selection at this fully vegan eatery! Not just Vietnamese food but also Thai, Western, and more. The banh xeo and banh mi were delicious. Nice to eat off real dishes, a bit hard to find in Hawaii!

We had the Vegetable tempura which came with a side of a sweet and spicy sauce. The crispy tofu in the tempura was really good! For the main course, we ordered the Joy noodle soup and Puttanesca pasta. The soup was the best noodle soup my wife and I have ever had. The serving size is also pretty big so we had to pack the pasta and it tasted okay when cold. But we're definitely going back for the soup. They have a few parking spots at the back of the building, so do check that out before trying to find roadside parking.

Everything was delicious! Even for my husband, that is a meat eater! I want to back and try other dishes.

Amazing vegan food with lots of options. A simple, basic restaurant but the food was all so good! We had the veggie clay pot, dumplings, pumpkin soup and fresh sugar cane juice - all was amazing and absolutely order again. They were also very accommodating with changes, such as steaming instead of deep frying the dumplings. Highly recommend, regardless if you are vegan or not.

The best mapo tofu I've ever had! All the food is delicious, with so many options and different cuisines. We visited twice while staying in Honolulu, and I was impressed with the speed of service and how hot and fresh all the dishes were.

Good Pho that I had, for $16.50. I recommend the dish. I had their pasta dishes before, and I would recommend as well. All Vegan food.

Great food and friendly service. I think everything is vegan. Location requires parking up the road, at least for us, but that’s normal for Honolulu.

What a wonderful spot! Pretty unassuming, but the food is GOOD! The banana flower salad was completely new to us and so refreshing. The curry soup is something I haven’t seen before. It was tasty and filling. The Thai iced tea was perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of sugar and caffeine. Everything was clearly freshly made with fresh, quality ingredients. Great prices and large portions. A simple joy. 100% recommend.

The food is absolutely fantastic. Parking on the street is free. Service is fast and courteous. Smoothies taste like real fruit, highly recommended the banana and strawberry. Get both. Thank me later. Shrimp nest and fried won tons was perfect, Joy noodle soup, vegetable clay pot and spring rolls were amazing. We'll definitely be coming back!

I asked the waitress which of the dishes are spicy. She pointed to an item on the menu. While I was asking about the other items on the menu, she left in between without saying anything and came back after sometime. She didn’t ask me which spice level I wanted and served us a dish which was hotter than the sun. When I asked them about it I was told “you said spicy, it’s not my fault”. Learn how to communicate and treat your customers better. I would not recommend this place.

Extensive and varied menu with some unusual items. We tried the summer rolls and they were delicious. The banana blossom Salad was definitely worth trying once. If you're looking for good vegan food why not stop in at Simple Joy and tell them Joe sent you. They will say Joe Who ...that's me.😃

Hands down best pad Thai I’ve ever had, coming from a meat eater who’s best friend is vegan. Wow. Great service and great food!

We were very surprised when we walked in and sat down to find that the menu was entirely vegetarian with roughly 60 to 70 options. We always have 1 or 2 options even at places that say they are vegetarian friendly. Amazed! We had potstickers, a Vietnamese sandwich, and a Philly sandwich and we ate every last bite (including dipping the garnish lettuce in the shoyu styled chili garlic sauce)! Very good food. Don't let the size of the shop or the production value fool you here. It is small and quiet and simple, but the food speaks loudly. This place was awesome!

This humble, unassuming eatery in the heart of the downtown area was a wonderful surprise. Cute, clean, quiet, and the service was helpful and efficient. The food was bright, fresh, cooked perfectly and flavored expertly, with the lemongrass tofu, Chinese broccoli in garlic, summer rolls and steamed edamame adding up to a feast for $40. Plenty of things left to try on future visits!

The food here was soooo good. The crispy spring rolls were so delicious. The banana flower salad was oddly very satisfying with a hint of mint and lime(would highly recommend trying this). I am not a fan of Tom Yam soup but it was pretty decent here. Finally, the curry noodle soup was the best. Also, very friendly service.

As a vegetarian I was so happy to find a vegan restaurant that makes plant protein “meats”!!! I also don’t eat dairy so the entire restaurant being vegan was awesome. I haven’t found a place like this since I lived in Arlington, VA. The food was so good. Thank you for having a place for us health conscious people to eat.

I loved it. Food tastes great, it is vegetarian, and the price isn't as expensive as in other places with same meals. Definitely recommended if you like vietnamese and vegetarian food

I enjoyed my experience here. We ordered the banana flower salad, it had a light dressing and minty flavor for a perfect refreshing starter. Plus what a novel ingredient—have you ever had banana flower before? And the “boca moco” was fun. The vegan eggs were rockin as was the gravy. As much as I like the Beyond Burger, I didn’t think it worked so well in this dish. I think I liked the vegan loco moco at Peace Cafe better, but this was great. Def would go back.
