Visited today to get some fish food (only place you can get it in bulk), and ended up browsing the fish aisles, too. OMG, the poor fish! The tanks were in appalling condition. We’ve never seen aquariums in a pet store so bad. We were hesitant to buy any fish, but bought some, more to try to save them. The prices are high, too. This is the last time shopping here for these long-time customers. Very sad.

We have not been in this store for about 4 months. I am sad to say, the aquarium tanks are in rough shape. There is excess algae in tanks making it hard to see the selection. Some tanks are severly overcrowded. I did not make a purchase because of this.

i’d give zero stars if i could, due to the fact that they don’t properly care for the small animals they sell. i usually won’t step foot in pet stores but unless it’s absolute last resort, but after today i never will again. they keep extremely timid and frightened guinea pigs (plus bunnies and chinchillas) in the smallest cages near the cash register, which is the loudest area of the store. they don’t even give them a small box or anything to hide under when they’re afraid, and this is extremely stressful to these poor animals. if they knew ANYTHING or CARED for these small animals, instead of just selling them like another product or toy, they would provide them with the bare minimum and educate the public on their needs! especially guinea pigs, since they are herd animals and need at least 1 companion, to prevent them going into depression and dying from it. treat small animals with the same respect you’d give to cats and dogs! i walked out in tears today seeing the stressed little prey animals. go to waimanalo feed for your needs, they don’t sell animals and are half the price! end speciesism!!!!!

Unfortunately, Petland really seems to have taken a hit from the pandemic that it has yet to recover from. Very understaffed. Most of the cages in the bird section are empty. Prices aren’t very competitive anymore. As others have mentioned, the aquatic section took the biggest hit. The fish look terrible, especially the bettas. Dwindling selection with a lot of empty or redundant tanks. All of the aquatic plants have bug infestations. We’ve shopped at Petland for years and we want to support local, but the current conditions at the store make it difficult to continue to do so.

So many dead fish in the tanks on the bottom, against filter, or floating on top. Plants look awful. What happened to this place ? Use to be thriving.

Quality has severely dropped at Petland Kahala. Been shopping here all my life, and it's went from one of the best pet stores to one of the worst. Let me elaborate. Went there recently to purchase Opae ula. I've been doing aquascaping and the like for almost 10 years now, and have always gone to petland for the fish selection. This time however, I was absolutely dismayed!! All of the tanks were GREEN. Not a good, healthy green either. Green as in a unclean, overgrown algae bloom green. Almost all of the goldfish tanks had a sign saying that the fish weren't for sale, as they were all sick with something. All tanks were super super murky, and lots had dead fish. Fast forward to the opae ula. Almost all in the tank were dead. Absolutely appalling. I almost didn't buy them, especially at 2.50 each!!! But I figured I'd try to save the few living ones in there. There were so many dead ones that the lady had such a hard time finding the few living!!! Getting home with the poor shrimps, I acclimated them slowly, as they were already weak and stressed. One was already dying on the way home. Did a slow drip acclimation for around 5 hours, then got them into better water asap. Unfortunately, 6 of them were so weak and sickly that they passed. I have 4 left, and fortunately these are doing well and thriving in their new home. Getting back to petland. Super disappointed. Never had such a bad batch of opae ula, nor have I ever seen such a tank full of dead ones!! Its borderline animal cruelty in the fish department, which is depressing as they used to have the best fish on the island. It took me and a few other people nearly 10 minutes to locate a worker to help us. There was no one on the floor at all, apparently they are extremely short staffed, which is probably why the tanks are so terrible. Still extremely disappointed.

I love shopping here, it's walking distance and it's close to kahala mall, I bought two of my male jackson chameleons from here, as well as there crickets that they eat, I bought a super delta betta male from petland nd I still have him till this day...I buy treats, dry food, primal raw foods when I need it right away...I also buy poop bags from here too, it's reasonably priced...especially if you check what is on sale...all the employees who works here are very friendly nd very helpful...i go almost every couple days just to see what they have, since I need to pick up food for my boyz kaena nd mana, they are very friendly, very lovable nd they are very happy to be living with me nd I also take them with me to petland so they can see how much they have grown nd also to know that they are in a very loving forever home...my little gurlz get along very well with their reptile brothers, they give them kisses nd they also let them cruise in the stroller with them or they are cruising somewhere on the stroller, I also take them with me walking, they cruise on the stroller nd they get sun nd fresh air, even thou they scramble to find shade in the stroller lol

Although I wore a face mask, there was an overwhelming stench of urine. Items are dusty and not neatly displayed, and prices are HIGH. I try to support local businesses, but I prefer the cleanliness and neatness of Petco over Petland.

Pet Land is a local pet store with people with years of experience serving the local community of pet owners. It’s just the basics of everything you need. It’s not a polished mainland chain, and that’s a good thing. This place feels comfortable and you could spend a lot of time in here exploring the aisles of fish, birds, chameleons, and rabbits. Great local establishment.

Went to get treats for my dog. Ended up spending about $60.00. also why to look for a doggy stroller. This place has the most options when it comes to strollers. Most stores carry one or two. This store and at least twelve different ones.

The prices on things here are a bit high but I like to try and support local businesses when I can. Great place to grab some treats or toys in a pinch. I only have a dog. But my mom comes here to get things for her dogs, birds, turtles, rabbits (when we had them) and cats.

The location is to far from we’re I’m leaving. But it’s worth the travel because the prices for pet food and everything in store is cheaper then petco an it’s the same things in there store this pet shop is the best place to shop for your pets

Good selection of pet products, only thing is finding help. They seemed short handed.

Went to buy a filter for my fish tank and they were all locked away behind chain link fence. Waited 20 minutes for help before I left and went to Petco.

Please don’t shop here. The live animals (birds, fish, Guinea pigs, chinchillas, etc.) they sell are kept in terrible condition. The whole place is gross and stinks and just needs to shut down already.

Store is old and very dusty and dirty sales. People aren’t that nice and management are very stern. The puppy Swap Meet is not the greatest.

Friendly and helpful staff that is happy to answer silly to complicated questions about your pet. Lots of selection, with tons of things for your fish, dog, or cat. Birds too. Always some sort of pets available, but if you meet one you like, get it while you can! I will continue to go back for my pet needs.
