This restaurant is the home of some of the best food that we have ever eaten - Vegan or otherwise. We stumbled upon this jewel while visiting Chinatown and were pleasantly surprised to find that it is a fully vegan restaurant. We ordered some fried wontons and they were so good that we ordered some to take with us and then decided to come back the next day for a full meal. We had the Hainan Chicken Rice, more Fried Wontons, and Soup. Delicious doesn’t begin to describe this food. Let’s start with the Vegan Chicken. It was so good. Crispy, flavorful, and it was actually juicy. We have never before experienced juicy vegan chicken before until now. And the rice was seasoned perfectly. We usually get plain rice with our vegan meals, but not here. The attention to detail is like nothing we have experienced and everything is perfectly seasoned. The soup was loaded with flavor, the vegetables were fresh, and the fresh basil was a wonderful addition. Even the sauces are loaded with delicious flavor. We wanted to stop eating but we could not because the food was just that good. But that is just a part of what makes Thuong An Lac special. It would impossible to talk about this restaurant without mentioning the wonderful service. This is a family-owned restaurant and it shows in all aspects. We were served by the son and daughter, and the food tastes like good home cooking. You can feel the love that goes into preparing the meals. It’s safe to say that when you’re here, you are family. Can’t wait to visit Honolulu again just to come back here.

I got #20 under Vermicelli. It was so yummy and made fresh. Best Vietnamese food I've had and it's all vegan. The place is family owned and staff is courteous. Definitely will visit again when back in Oahu!

Vegans and vegetarians (and everyone) must eat at this place! Best vegan food on the island hands down! You won’t even notice it’s vegan. It tastes better than non-vegan food. They’re right on the corner of North King and Kekaulike across the Oahu Market.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Vietnamese Vegan Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. Despite its modest size, the restaurant exuded a lot of heart, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Our meal included the delectable fried rice and refreshing summer rolls, both of which were exceptionally flavorful and satisfying. The staff's exceptional courtesy was a highlight, even though there was a language barrier. Their attentiveness and dedication to providing a delightful dining experience were truly commendable. As a haven for vegans, this restaurant boasts an impressive array of options that cater to plant-based diets. The reasonable pricing only added to the overall appeal. A standout gesture was the complimentary vegetable clear soup they offered just purely upon our curiosity. This gesture, along with the quality of the food and service, showcased the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction. For those seeking outstanding vegan and vegetarian fare, the Vietnamese Vegan Restaurant is an absolute must-visit. Personally, I left with a sense of contentment and can't wait to return when I'm in the vicinity.

There's a small sit down area inside. It's a strictly vegan restaurant, which I love cause there's no cross contamination. I tried the Bun Bo Hue and it was spicy & delish!

came here twice while i was on the island. i had to reorder hainan rice before flying back home because it is THAT delicious. i’ve been craving for only hainan rice ever since i stopped eating meat and what they have is very close to real chicken hainan that i would find in singapore. i dont know how they can make the vegan chicken so juicy! i also ordered curry + bread, pork bun, rice noodle + spring rolls, and banh mi. all delicious, but hainan rice is unbeatable for me. the staff are also friendly and sweet. one of the ladies offered me pandan tea while i was waiting for takeout. definitely would recommend this place & come again if i visit oahu again ❤️

My dad rudely knocked on their doors 2 hours after they closed and the owner still let us in (read note below). She was so kind and welcoming, but most of all, the food was delicious. I am Vietnamese and have been vegetarian for the last 8 years. The bun bo hue chay (Vegetarian beef noodle soup) was the closest I’ve had to the real one. Everything was just like authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The owner served my family of 4 who intervened with their closing/prep. Thank you so much for your service!! We wanted to come back the next day before leaving Honolulu, but plans intervened. Highly recommend this restaurant. Note: I do NOT recommend knocking on anyone’s doors after closing hours; this was a rare case as my dad was stubborn and had no manners lol.

Legit vegan Vietnamese that makes me happy to eat the food of my childhood without the meat. Legit experience too. One of my go to places on Oahu. FYI, most items are gluten free (rice and soy being predominant ingredients) except for spring rolls.

Vegan eats review: Hands down one of the best places to eat in Oahu. Seriously. In the heart of Chinatown. You walk in and everyone looks up at you as if this is a neighborhood joint and it is. I knew it was going to be good. Do yourself a favor. If you are a vegan and traveling on Hawaiian Airlines, stop here first to grab some eats. The airline does not serve vegan or vegetarian eats really. Tip: Call ahead and order by number. She packaged our food so lovingly it transported so well and kept fresh. While I waited she gave me a glass of water. I felt like I was sitting with family, like my aunties, kind and patient and generous. We ordered so much it was perfect for dinner and breakfast the next morning. On our menu: #1 Spring rolls Came with a delicious rice noodle, shredded carrot, daikon, cucumber salad. A meal in itself. #4 Steamed Pork Buns These things are huge. She lovingly wrapped them in cling film to keep them warm and soft for the trip. #24 Shredded Pork Banh Mi You can tell all the ingredients have been marinated. Yum. #25 Combinatjon Banh Mi Not as dry as #24 but pretty much tastes the same. Delicious. Both are yummy. We’ve marked it as a return spot for sure. Again, call in advance for pick up prior to hopping your flight. Be patient and order by number. Smile and try the spicy vegan jerky as you wait. It’s worth the $10 for the takeaway package.

Hidden gem in Chinatown. The trend of vegan restaurants offering “fake meats” is somewhat off putting to me. While this restaurant has its share of that, I am pleased to report there are some amazing offerings on the menu and based on that I’m sure their “fake meat” is fine. :) Tried: Bitter melon soup - this is not for everyone, “bitter” is a hard flavor to pull off but this is a wonderful, lightly salted but flavorful broth, accentuated by bean curd skin and the stuffed bitter melons. “Baked” tofu - the exterior is golden brown and crispy. The interior piping hot and soft. Garnished with some salty herbs which are the perfect complement. They go well with rice as well! Spring rolls - delicious, not overly greasy. The vermicelli is great too. Bottom line: try it!! Especially if you are looking for a non meat option :D

This is a lovely place, one of my favorites in town! It’s ran by a family, everyone is so nice. The food is great, makes you feel like you’re home. It’s not expensive, not fancy—just perfect!

The definition of a hidden gem. This vegan spot is unassuming in its name. It’s a tad hard to find - on the corner, there’s a door that says “vegan Vietnamese” on it, and then you open the door to the right. Once inside, you have no idea ehat a treat you’re in for. When we were there, there were 5 employees (family members, I think) working there. They were so passionate about the food yet gave us space. They made sure we had plenty of the free unsweetened, hydrating rice tea. We ordered spring rolls, with cheap prices and generous portions. So so good! We also adored the vegan pork bahn mi and vermiceli dish. So filling, flavorful, and fresh. Lots of vegetables. Not oily at all and left us feeling healthy and good. This is the kind of business I love to support, really hoping they grow and stay in business. The food’s so good and would be a great regular eat if we were local. We also think they provide food and conversation to folks who are unhoused, which is very sweet. Such kind souls, such good food, give them a visit! Vegan, vegetarian, or omni, you’ll be so happy you did. We walked out feeling so so good and satisified with these delicious eats. This ranks among my favorite Vietnamese spots across many cities!

Oh my goodness, where do I start with this absolute gem of a place that is 100 Vietnamese vegan food, this is a true dream come true. This treasure is ran by the sweetest family, every member is super sweet and you instantly have a smile on your face when you are greeted by them when you enter. Came here three days in the row and every dish was delicious but my favorite was the curry stew. The menu is rich and there are plenty of options. Place is welcoming and bright w background music and the food is fresh and delicious. Very clean. This is "a must" for sure ! CC accepted

Thuong An Lac is a small place tucked away in Chinatown. This all vegan restaurant is an opportunity to eat authentic Vietnamese food without worrying about the ingredients. The Noodle and Wonton soup is one of my favorite things I ate in Hawaii. My friend who showed us this place always gets the Broken Rice with Pork Chop and Meatloaf (a vegan flashback to childhood). We also came with a non-vegetarian who enjoyed her Curry with bread.

My personal favorite was the spring rolls. We also enjoyed the lemongrass soup and the fresh sugarcane juice. This place is a gem 💎. The family that runs the restaurant was incredibly nice and helpful. I wish this restaurant the best and many blessings 🙏
