This is a family type atmosphere.very friendly. The food is country cooking to the fullest. And the portions will get you full. Everything tastes so good you'll be planning your next visit I definitely recommend eating in or take out
Man, where do I begin? This restaurant is honestly one of the best I’ve eaten at in a while. Traveling through Kentucky I found this place online. Starting with the service, my waitress was beyond excellent. I I was constantly tended to without ever having to get her attention. She brought me samples without asking and was just so kind and friendly. She even brought me fresh cornbread because she thought the ones I got were too hard. As for the food, I had the mutton and it was delicious, as were all the sides. The whole dining experience was memorable with how homey and delicious this place was! Thank you for the awesome dinner!
Was an alright experience. Service was great and our waitress was very nice. Food was okay but I was pretty sad about my ribs. They were more on the cartilage side than meat. My fried okra was not very warm. My slaw and potato salad were very good. The key lime pie was amazing! I'm willing to try again and maybe I came on a off day.
One of our favorites for 35yrs+! Some of the best pulled pork & BBQ sauce you'll find....baked beans remind my families recipes of old. Service is always quick & pleasant. Meringue PIES & banana pudding is right up there with the best EVER! HIGHLY recommend a visit!
From the moment I walked in, the warmth of true Southern hospitality enveloped me. The staff was genuinely welcoming, setting the perfect tone for a meal that felt like a comforting embrace. The catfish was nothing short of perfection—corn-fried to golden, crispy goodness, with tender, flaky fish inside. Paired with creamy beans and a refreshingly crisp slaw, every bite was a balance of textures and flavors. And then there was the burgoo—a must-try dish that added a unique, hearty depth to the meal. But the real showstopper? The homemade pecan pie. Heavenly doesn’t even begin to describe it! Rich, buttery, and perfectly sweet, it was the kind of dessert that lingers in your memory long after the last bite. If you’re looking for a place that delivers soul-warming food with exceptional service, this is it. A true gem that deserves your visit!
Wow, best ribs ive ever had, thick tender meat and juicy to the core🤪 sauce was a bit sweet for me and ribs were smothered, only option for them are 3/4 lbs but that just means youll have plenty to take home with ya. Friday(catfish) and saturdays(ribs) are when your going to want to be here! Smalltown diner atmosphere with matching friendly service! Will be back when in town!!! P.S. Alot of reviews mention 'fatty' meat and them not knowing about 'real BBQ', but the real ones know, fat is where your flavor comes from and we will gladly take a bit of fat with our meat. Sorry yall have so many bad reviews buut your doing it right!
My husband travels from Indiana to Hopkinsville for his job a few times a month. He always stops to get me some mutton from a well-known "place" in Owensboro, as it's my favorite! His job location changed, so he called The Wood Shed. In addition, he got a full slab of ribs. The Mutton is a little smokey and lightly seasoned. Very good! Since we have never had their bbq before, I wanted to taste them. I went to tear one off, and it would not tear. Even full force. I went to examine the full slab, and not only did they not remove or score the membrane from the bottom of the ribs, but they smelled like older pork (gray in color, as well.)🤢 Zero smoke, and I had to wrap them up in foil and cook them in the oven on low for an hour. My husband ate them, and he's not at all picky, but he said they were AWFUL. The bbq sauce was super sweet and very thin. Such a huge disappointment. Even though I liked their Mutton (that's the only reason I gave them 2 stars), we'll never go back. Awful.
I'm not from the area, so I figured I'd try some foods I've never had, and was glad I did. The mutton bbq, white beans, burgoo and chess pie were excellent and I look forward to returning to try them again. Everything was really tasty, including the cabbage side and one of the best bbq sauces I've ever had. Server Jordyn was friendly, professional and helpful with the menu and is an asset to this establishment and should be rewarded accordingly. Can't wait to return!
