Amazing zoo. Well worth a visit with lots to see! By the end our kids had seen enough and had a great experience feeding lots of different animals (don't waste it all on the hungry deer). We spent about 3 hours and it had a nice logical progression. Make sure you bring your own food/drink/hand wipes as there wasn't any available. There are some good spots to stop and a nice playground.

Our family had a fantastic day at the Halls Gap Zoo. The zoo offers great experience with seeing many different kinds of animals! The animals are well looked after and they are very adorable! And if you buy the bag of the food, you can feed the animals like deer and wallabies! Happy experience for me to interact with the cute animals! Highly recommend to visit!

Amazing place! Recommended to do an animal encounter. They take high quality photos and email it to you included in the encounter price. Easy to get around for wheelchair user. Majority of the grounds are flat and accessible! The viewing of animals are great. Set up well! Buying tickets online didn't make much of a difference when entering zoo. But it was hardly a line when we entered , sunday morning 11am

Beautiful animals, and the staff were all absolutely wonderful. It was great to see them interact with the primates, it's clear they love and care for them so well. It was difficult to see some of the animals in enclosures that were clearly too small (looking at you, crocodile), but there are plans to extend, which is great. The day was HOT, do the lack of shade along the property was pretty noticeable. The primates were so freaking cute and my wife and daughter had a ball in the meerkat experience. Definitely be going back💙

What an awesome wildlife zoo!! Zookeeper was super friendly and happy to chat/educate us as she was feeding the animals. It was quite hot when we went so we didn't see some animals as they were hiding and keeping cool (which also meant we didn't get to see the baby capuchin monkey!) The deer were ravenous for the food and I wish we had gone for more than 2 packets as we got through it so quickly and one specific deer kept gnawing at my shirt to get more food 😂 The best part was feeding the wallabies as they are so gentle and sweet but not all animals are food focused so don't be sad if one ignores you. Lots of animals roaming around and you will definitely get a good amount of steps in. If it weren't so warm, we would have gone around twice again. The souvenir shop was great and I was a little indecisive but the staff are great and I don't mind splurging a bit more since it's going to a zoo. Great selection of stuff!

Great experience. The zoo is much bigger than expected. Expect to spend at least 3 hours here if walking around to every exhibit. Cute deer and really up and close experience with the cheetahs and giraffes. Quite unique and we think this is comparable to any of the major zoos like Werribee open range or Melbourne Zoo.

Had an absolutely incredible experience at Halls Gap Zoo! I was gifted a red panda encounter as a birthday present and had opportunity to meet Shardul the red panda! He was adorable and full of personality! Definitely an unforgettable experience and would do it again in a heartbeat. Shout out to our zoo keeper guide (forgot his name sorry😢) he was great; he told us lots of interesting information not only about the red pandas but also about the zoo itself. As for the rest of my experience at the zoo, couldn’t be happier. It had a more interactive feel compared to other Zoos I have visited in Victoria. You can purchase grain to feed the Deer, Kangaroo, Wallabies, Goats and Himalayan Tahr, which are all very gentle animals. The zoo has a wide variety of animals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, the staff were lovely and were very helpful when approaching them. Would recommend this zoo for all ages and I will definitely be back!

What an unexpected gem of a place! So much to see, and most of the animals seemed happy - although some of them seemed very cold which makes sense given the climate there, but perhaps they need more heating? Toilets really need attention though, we went at opening time and they were absolutely filthy which was odd. You would expect that at the end of the day not the start, so it seems they aren’t cleaned every day.

Highly recommend the Zoo, wear comfortable shoes as you will get your steps up. The zoo is well maintained and the variety of great animals is impressive. The deer run wild in the common areas, which you can feed with pellets that you can purchase when buying your tickets.

Having grown up in Halls Gap when I was much younger, I don't think I knew this zoo existed back then. Imagine my surprise when I moved back into the area and heard about the zoo! In what is a wonderfully spread out and quite open zoo, the interactions with a number of animals was absolutely lovely and wonderful. I'd gladly go back again. The animal experiences are quite fantastic too. I had a lovely time with the dingos! Hoping to experience the Meerkats next!

Such a great zoo! Highly recommend coming here if you're in Halls Gap. The zoo allows you to wander around at your own pace, and you're consistently greeted by the free range deers who will want some food from you. Great range of animals!

Had a fantastic day at the Halls Gap Zoo. The Meerkat's ate from my hand and the Rhino done a little dance for me when he was let out into the paddock. That was only two of plenty of highlights on the day. The animals (big & small) are well looked after. And the staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend visiting. :)

Well worth a visit with lots to see! A great day out and a good place for a relaxing walk around viewing the animals and feeding some of them too! Be careful the deer can be cheeky and steal the feed bag

It's one of the best zoos in Victoria. A few things make this zoo a special one. Like some special animal encounters and freely roaming deers 🦌 which you can feed. You can spot a white peacock freely roaming around the zoo. During my visit, I spotted it on the car parking area. Tip: Visit this zoo as soon as it opens because when I was stepping out of the zoo most of the deers were sleeping and those which were roaming around were refusing to eat food provided by the zoo keepers. Might be they weren't hungry.

Nice little zoo, though was getting lots of areas upgraded. Worth buying the bag of food to have the deer chase you! If you buy tickets online, they're valid for a year, just need to buy them 24hrs before you arrive. We spent 2-3hrs here & filled part of the day nicely.

One of the best zoo in Victoria, lots of animals to see, Very good to visit with young children as the size of the zoo itself is not too large not too big as it is carefully designed, you can roam around the zoo and see the animals in 30 minutes walk. There are free roaming deers, peacocks, kangaroos and wallabies which you can feed and touch. Better to bring own food as there is only a small food van where you can buy chips and drinks but there is a big playground and lots resting areas with chairs and tables.

Been to a few zoos travelling around, we also got the personal rhino encounter which was awesome, staff were great, animals just wandering around that you can pat (deer), a very natural Australian bush feel with more of a up close and personal approach to looking at and learning about different animals....if you love the wild.... Come to this place.... 👌👌👍

Had a great day at the halls gap zoo. $50 meerkat experience was brilliant value, and I’ve never been so close to rhinos. Great for all ages, friendly staff, interactive for kids and just a bloody good time. Better than most city zoo’s by far.

Always an amazing experience to visit Halls Gap Zoo. I went specifically to see their baby spotted tailed quolls and was not disappointed. Their staff let me know when to expect feeding and their most active times and the keeper who did the feeding was incredible. Halls gap zoo is an incredible zoo with large enclosures and fascinating enrichment for the many animals they care for and I am already planning my next visit!

Gorgeous zoo based at the foot of the Grampians that allows you to wander at your own pace through the exhibits. Very up close interactions with the animals who are well taken care of with plenty free roaming that you can feed. Brilliant staff who are super friendly and helpful.

We had an amazing expirence. We have been to all the other zoo and while we loved them too, this one was just amazing. It has been layed out perfectly, so you get to see so many animals but you don't have to walk too much. The walking tracks are all user friendly and an easy walk. Our favourite part was feeding and cuddling the deer. Thanks so much!

Lots of animals to see and feed. Easy walking trail. A lot of animals we saw pacing back and forth and missing fur and feathers. Reasonably priced $98 for 2 adults and up to 4 children. Food was $5 for 2 bags of animal food.

Zoo Keeper for a Day - the most AMAZING experience!!! My husband and I did the Zoo Keeper for a day Experience for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. This is an experience that is well worth the money and a must for anybody that enjoys being at a zoo. Our Zoo Keepers for the Day were Tara, Jules, Lilly, Marcus and Steph. All of the Zoo Keepers were magnificent and full of knowledge and energy. Each Zoo Keeper answered our questions and made us feel a part of the Halls Gap Zoo Family. From Meerkats, birds, wombats, wallabies, rhinos, donkeys, lizards, dingos, giraffes, red pandas and cheetahs just to name a few the Halls Gap Zoo has a wide variety of animals and is privately owned. We went into our experience without any expectations not knowing what we were going to experience. By the end of the day we were so thrilled with the day that we had we wanted to recommend this experience to everyone! Do yourself a favour and head to the zoo you will not be disappointed! Make sure you say hi to Jale, Tara, Jules, Lilly, Marcus and Steph they are all so amazing and such an asset to the zoo.

Great little tourist spot. Spent the day visiting here with my sister and loved every minute. The feeding of the animals is definitely a highlight and a good laugh.

The best zoo hands down. I have only been to the Melbourne zoo, but halls gap is amazing. Set out very well, clean, great enclosures, lots of animals to see and no confusion on where to go to see what animals. Loved every minute.

This is a lovely country zoo, staff were great and they are trying so hard to improve the zoo. If you walk in thinking Melbourne Zoo you'll probably be disappointed. It's nothing like that. They rely on local funding to keep the zoo running, and they are doing a great job with it. Our kids (2&6) had a ball, we purchased bags of food to feed the animals wandering around which made their day! There is a very eclectic collection of animals which was great! It took us 3hrs to go through the place and we stopped for lunch in that. You could wiz around it in 1.5hrs with no kids. Take your lunch or snacks with you, they aren't set up for that. There are lollies and ice creams in the shop. Overall we loved our visit, and we hope the zoo gets more funding soon so it can keep building more enclosures and caring for the animals.

This is a huge zoo and the animals are very well looked after. They were healthy and active. A must visit for kids and adults. I loved the two cheetahs! They were sort of interacting with visitors

Had a great time! Deer roam free and eat from your hand unlike other animal attractions where kangaroo and wallaby are the norm. Nice variety of animals including a recent addition of Asian otters (on Good Friday 2023)! The enclosure for the otters is well done with a great viewing area of their swimming area. There are 2 playgrounds where the littles can release some energy. The swamp area maintained from an ancient spring is so natural you can imagine being transported back in time. The entire zoo is easy to traverse with prams or mobility equipment with exhibits having low viewing windows so everyone can enjoy all the animals. The zoo is growing and great things are happening. Will return often!

We loved it here. What a great zoo!! There’s just something about being in a zoo where the animals appear more in their element. Definitely a must see if you’re visiting the area. Perhaps a tad expensive for entrance fee as it might deter other families from going to see and visit. There is no food facilities inside so make sure to bring some drinks and snacks.

  • 4/5 Annie F. 1 year ago on Google
Good little zoo, had some really interesting animals to see that I’ve not seen in any other zoo although the draw back was no involvement in learning about the animals, ie keeper talks or passports etc. poorly laminated information signs were it. Kids loved the playground the most and feeding some of the animals. $2 per bag. Most weren’t interested in the food, probably too well fed! To be honest I think $95 for a family was a bit high for what it was. Also an extra cost to do all the up close and personal feedings.

  • 5/5 Ethan E. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful area with many exotic animals. I did a paid encounter with the red panda. All of the money and them some was worth it for the joyous afternoon. The only thing I disliked was how I was laughed at by two of the visitors, though I don’t see how this is the zoo’s fault. I’m so happy so much wildlife, exotic or not, is available in such a rural area, even if it is 5 hours away from my house. I would visits again!

Lovely zoo! Exhibits nicely presented, a great day out and a good place for a relaxing walk around viewing the animals and feeding some of them too! Be careful the deer can be cheeky and steal the feed bag from your hands! A wide range of animals to see. Everyone had an enjoyable day.

Excellent zoo. The animals are all really well cared for with well maintained enclosures. Pathways and gates are accessible and well maintained. The walking is easy, even for people with mobility issues - there are plenty of places to rest along the way, too. You get to see the animals better here than at Melbourne Zoo. The keepers are friendly and volunteer lots of great information. The animal encounter experiences are excellent — super enjoyable and very informative.

Good simple zoo with a fair collection of animals. Few areas are still under construction and slightly disorganized for my liking. Overall it was a good two hours spent.

  • 5/5 Deborah H. 2 years ago on Google
I love this zoo, just wish it was tidier, but that isn't the fault of theirs, after all its a bush! There was some human rubbish around and annoying that there wasn't more seating along the tracks but overall a wonderful place, the animals are clearly looked after well. Please support this zoo if you are able, they need help with finishing off maintenance and new enclosures.

  • 5/5 Stephen S. 2 years ago on Google
I have given 5 stars for the animals they are all beautiful. But the enclosures seemed to small for most of the wild animals, like the bald headed eagle could definitely use bigger space. Im sure they are all cared for to the best of rangers abilities, just looks sad some of the smaller enclosures.

  • 5/5 Amber D. 2 years ago on Google
What an incredible experience! Had a red panda and meerkat encounter and they were such amazing animals. The zookeepers were very knowledgeable and were happy to answer all questions we had. All animals seem happy and well looked after. Would definitely come back again.

  • 5/5 Ryan C. 2 years ago on Google
Gotta say this is one impressive zoo. It has by far the most diverse range of animals compared to any other zoo in Victoria. Very impressed. I know it’s been tough for them being shut for the best part of a year. They’re doing a great job.

  • 5/5 Patrick P. 2 years ago on Google
Had a great day at the zoo with the kids till it started heavily raining. There isn't much shelter so if it looks like rain make sure you take an umbrella. All of the animals look in really good condition and happy. Some of the enclosures were a bit damaged from trees falling in recent storms but there was still plenty of animals to see around the park. If you plan to spend the whole day make sure to bring food as there isn't much on offer apart from snacks at the zoo. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the limited facilities on site were clean and in good condition. All in all a great day out in regional Victoria enjoyed by the whole family.

We went to Halls Gap solely to be able to go here. It's an amazing facility where they rehabilitate animals and provide the best care. Wide range of animals to see and interactive feeding options available. We went early in the morning and it was a lot quieter then when we attended for a second time a few days later in the afternoon. We paid $80 to be able to feed a red panda and it was an incredible experience. Great for families, first dates, solo, couples - literally everyone. Can't wait to go back again!
