I had tough luck with the " Oficina de Turismo" (a mini counter or frontdesk) in Atocha Station. The behaviour of the employee deeply offended the tourist that approach her. Her OFFHAND manner she showed to the tourists was so rude and behaving in a very despotic way with everyone. She was not only impolite, but also unhelpful. This type of work, should be carried out by employees who enjoy working in contact with the public. It hasn't been a great experience,  so I hope things will be better at Madrid's train station next time around. Hence, hopefully in a foreseeable visit to Madrid things will get better.

After the bombings Atocha was renovated and now it has a very cool section with palm trees and turtles. You can have a nice relaxing wait if have time to catch your next train. Also if you take a cab, just walk a little bit outside Atocha to avoid the extra 3 euro charge (as a little suggestion).

Patricia helped us locate the apartment on the map where we were staying, and the best way to get there as some sections of the Metro were closed for maintenance, she also helped us with directions, maps and things to do in Madrid.

We struggled to find it as its hidden in a corner with no big 'i' sign. But once we did, omg the staff were amazing. They went above and beyond in helping us find our way in Madrid, including directions to the nearest luggage storage. Asked where we were from in the end to bid us farewell in our language. How sweet is that!

Tourist information just a tin box. Unfortunately the ambience was very bad...self-service resti was good. The rest is not recommended except for getting on and off trains. It's a shame Madrid didn't place more value on its main train station.

Very big train station with many trains, city trains and metros arriving and departing all the time! You can get high speed trains to most of the big cities in the south of Spain with Seville only 2 hours and a half from here! High security due to the terrorist attacks on the city in 2004! The only bad thing is that most of the staff have either bad or no English at all so when I paid €78 for a ticket to Seville and I got double charged by the ticket seller I was told I'd be reimbursed but I did not believe that so I went to the information desk and told them what had happened and they organised a refund for the mistake they did! Happy ending but had I not copped that I was charged double and went out of my way to go to customer service even after the lady told me I'd be reimbursed I would have been €78 down!
