Absolutely stunning architecture, no doubt it’s a UNESCO heritage site. The details in those carvings will blow your mind and make you wonder how they did it 1000 years ago. It’s a piece of architectural marvel. Don’t miss it if you are around.

This temple is dedicated to 24 incarnations of lord Vishnu. Outer wall is the carving of elephants and lions. One of the best masterpieces of craftsmanship which depict our culture and the art of the man. There is a gravity pillar of unique 42 ft height carved out of a single stone and stand on its own weight. Paid parking is available. You can opt for a tourist guide who will explain the evry bit of the temple.

Went on peaceful morning. Have spent very little time in observing the marvel statues and more time in taking photos for which i regretted later after looking at the pictures I took. Should visit and observe. The surroundings were neat, clean and well maintained. There is not any rush either.

Wonderful historical temple with beautiful sculptures in the classical Hoysala architectural style. You can spend a few hours looking at the statues and sculptures. Be sure to find a guide (official guides with badges are present throughout the site) who will show you intricate art and features along the sculptures.

Stunning architecture! The intricate stone carvings and statues is just pure art. One can only try to fathom the level of artistic supremacy and craftsmanship that our ancestral kings and craftsmen once had years ago only when you visit such places. The precision and perfections of the stone carvings, minute details on the statues, the simplest and delicate work of art on them can only be experienced by visiting and looking at the marvels. The priests kept trying to enforce Covid rules and informing people to maintain the face mask standards. It is better to hire the guides at the temple entrance to understand the history and carvings better. There is a small clean pond within the temple walls where one can see beautiful fishes and turtles swimming!

Beautifully built temple which is more than 1000s years old. History has a lot to say to those who want to hear. Don’t try exploring this temple with out the hiring a trained local guide. They are government guide who will take Rs. 500 and will help you understand each and every aspect of the temple. It is not a tourist spot or a dating place, have seen many couples hidden here and there, kindly respect the heritage place and a temple. “Every stone tells a story” so take out your time and enjoy this masterpiece.

An epic masterpiece of our past. No architectural wonder can rival the beauty of what lies within these walls. Went in the evening so it was cool. I am assuming in the afternoon it will be very hot so it is recommended to walk with a pair of socks in the open courtyard. Ample drinking water facilities. Parking is at the backside of the temple and ₹50/- is charged for the same.

Best temple of Lord Vishnu and Devi Lakshmi. This ancient temple is usually not overcrowded and in about an hour or two one can visit the temple. Services of guide are recommended for people who have interests in history, sculptures and archeology. The temple has excellent intricate carvings of various animals, gods and godesses that are among the best in India and also the sculptures are very well preserved even after 900 years. Try not to visit the temple in noon times especially in summer as the stones can be too hot to walk on bare feet. Early morning or evening visit are recommended.

“Every stone tells a story” takes on a whole new dimension when one in transported into the realm of the Belur temple. Don’t try exploring this temple with out the services of a trained local guide. Else the glory of the temple, the profound stories it’s intricate craving herald, may be completely lost on you. If the beauty of the temple does not amaze you, the principles of science which magically come together to make this temple, will most definitely leave you stunned. I’m not even going to try and explain what I mean by this, because it is for your eyes to see and your mind to fathom.

Such an old temple with beautiful sculptures. I really wonder how they could be able to make such arts without any equipment those days. It took 105 years to build this temple. If you are going, please hire a guide. Otherwise you will not understand the details of the sculpture. You need atleast 1.5 hour time to completely look into the sculptures.

Temple was very beautiful and magnificent view. Belur is a small town in Hassan district in the state of Karnataka, India. The town is renowned for its Chennakeshava Temple dedicated to Vishnu, one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture and the largest Hindu temple complex that has survived from pre-14th-century Karnata-Dravida tradition. Remarkable art sculpture and poorana s behind it. Just seeing those wonderful but when you take Guides , they can take us deeper knowledge about every art work. Because we can pay lot of money to reach this place and we listen the stories only then it will remain on your mind and recognised. Must check one stone pillar was stood up for centuries, not even used concerte or sand, just on it. You can use paper on bottom as thin layer gap as it. Prasadam(lunch) available for devotees, this located near temple, ask locality people. You can park vehicles around temple or sideways main road. No parking charges. Any questions for enquiry : comment below Or Reach out : IG Page - @goanywhere7 Follow and like my photos and reviews ..

This thousand-year-old temple is an architectural wonder. Must really appreciate those stone masons of that age gone by. Such intricate works done with stones! The temple compound is very much cleaner since I last visited it 10 years ago. Visitors still have to walk barefooted. This time round, some very smart person had thought of a jute carpet walkway around the building! Thanks to that simple solution from a genius, walking barefooted was bearable. The occasion where one has to step on the stones is still "Ouch! Ouch!" It being a Sunday afternoon, there was a very large crowd of local tourists. This building has a functioning temple inside.

One of the finest Architecture. Mind blowing sculptural works. Proud we are still manage to preserve it. Just got mouth struck by the way all detailed works in stone. Lord Vishnu is main god here. It was so much positive to see him standing tall. If architectural students visits this place and they want to re-create this. I bet they take ages to do it. Afternoon time they are closing the Vishnu idol for Pooja around 1:30hrs. Plan accordingly.

One of the best preserved architectural beauties of South India. Best to invest in a guide for Rs.300 who would be able to hit the highlights of the place in one hour and also tell the stories on the site. You can't see similarity between the design of any two pillars, each pillar is unique in the design and carvings on it. The entire temple is built using steatite (ಬಳಪದ ಕಲ್ಲು) available locally at this place. The stone pillar outside the temple is balanced so precisely on only 3 sides out of 4 (one can measure the gap by passing a cloth/paper). How perfectly they have taken care of center of gravity is beyond our imagination and this explains the sculptor's talent back in 11th century. One should hire a guide to get the real flavor of it's history.

Oldest temple with Hoysala Architecture in Karnataka, easy & worth to include when your are travelling to Chikmagalur or Sakelshpura. Guides are available outside and they will help you to understand history, specially curated sculptures, walls, pillars, etc. It is crowded, of you are planning for photography, then better go to Halebidu

Belur  a small town in Hassan district in the state of Karnataka, India. The town is renowned for its Chennakeshava Temple dedicated to Vishnu, one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture and the largest Hindu temple complex that has survived from pre-14th-century Karnata-Dravida tradition. A historic site inspired by the teachings of Ramanujacharya, it has been a Vaishnava Hindu pilgrimage center since at least the 12th-century. It was also the first capital of the Hoysala dynasty, before they built Dorasamudra (modern Halebid)

It's a ancient temple built by Hoysala emperor in 12th century in the banks of Yagachi River. It's a good place to visit if you are a lover of ancient architecture. It has mesmerizing miniature sculptures in the walls of the shrine.

Marvellous, exquisite sculptures. You have to see it to understand India's architectural heritage. Mere words cannot capture the intricate detailing and the sheer mastery over form and expressions. It's still a live temple with regular aarthi in morning, afternoon, evening and night.

The carving work of the temple is pretty good.. The multiple layers of carved temples are amazing No matter where you look there will be some amount of carving and work done sadly it was drizzling when I had gone so couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted. There are guides available as well There is small pond sort of structure in the lake which has turtles in it In the water we saw a weird thing some of the stones were warm and some were cold Its super strange though felt very comforting Parking is a bit sketchy though

Mind-blowing architecture!! truly beautiful sculptures. Never seen such intricate stone work anywhere before. People who sculpted these are true artists and we don't even know who they were. That's the sad part. Must visit, bring your family and friends. This is the epitome of Indian art and architecture.
