There
is
very
little
in
the
way
of
grocery
stores
in
Soroti.
Most
food
is
purchased
from
local
open
air
markets
where
individuals
sell
fruits
and
vegetables
they
have
raised.
If
you
need
anything
else,
you
will
likely
end
up
at
OM
supermarket.
By
western
standards,
the
store
has
a
very
limited
selection,
but
you
can
find
soap,
kitchen
supplies,
spices,
milk
and
meat.
The
meat
is
of
limited
selection,
and
is
not
of
great
quality,
but
I
have
found
it
to
be
safe.
I
have
purchased
the
meat,
and
eaten
it
without
getting
sick.
While
the
selection
is
very
limited,
the
proprietor
was
able
to
get
me
bacon.
If
you
want
western
style
bacon
in
Uganda,
it
is
knows
as
"streaky
bacon".
If
you
just
order
"bacon"
you
will
get
something
more
like
ham.
The
streaky
bacon
the
store
procured
for
me
was
pretty
good.
It
was
commercially
packaged
so
no
doubt
much
safer
than
buying
meat
off
the
un-refrigerated,
fly
infested
street
vendors.
If
you
are
in
Soroti
and
need
food
or
supplies,
this
is
going
to
be
about
as
good
as
it
gets.
