We got the set menu which came in at $175 per person. Steep price but reasonable considering the culinary journey and quality of ingredients. Definitely comes recommended. Only complaint is that customers are given cheap, single-use Chinese chopsticks. There’s a clear difference between Japanese style and Chinese style chopsticks, and why one kind is used for sashimi and the like. For a high end restaurant that showed so much attention to details in the dishes, I’d expect the same when it came to the table setting.

Wow! It was an amazing experience. Now I like to say I love sushi but I had no idea what I was in for. I'm a basic rolls gal and was ready to just enjoy the rolls they had to offer. My server saved the day and said would you like me to pick some items for you. I said yes! We discussed what proteins I did and didn't like and if I had any allergies. Then I gave him all the power for my meal. Best decision ever. It was delicious, everything that was delivered to my table. There was only one item I really didn't like but they asked me about. It was a newer item they were working on. Let me just say, letting someone else just choose your meal for you was so freeing. It was a night I soon won't forget. I honestly can't give you names of the dishes. They told me I ate then then the next one came out and I had forgotten the name already. I know the crudos were delicious. Every single one they brought out. The Matstake Bass was amazing. Perfect last course of the dinner. Try the Jasmine cream for an interesting and surprising dessert and the fried milk to give you that chocolate craving most people love for a ending to a good night. I took terrible photos of some things but do yourself a favor and treat yourself. It's not a cheap night out but it's an experience worth every penny.

Amazing food, horrible service and awkward vibe. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for something romantic and classy. If you still wanna go, I highly recommend to reserve a bar seats or go here for friends night out where you can get drunk and loud. The experience was like having a Michelin grade sushi in the middle of the streets of night market in Vietnam- drunk people yelling and leaning over your chair, murky and awkward lighting, & unprofessional, inattentive server. It was Wednesday night we went. This place is really REALLY LOUD, that you cannot even hear the person sitting right in front of you, neither any of the servers explaining your food. We ordered Omakase which we don't know what dish is coming out and the servers will have to explain once the food is served. Could not hear a thing! Their dining room has spacious cozy booth seats and tables tightly placed side by side. Good luck getting a booth because those tables are like a feet apart and you are sitting way too close to the other table. This is big H town, there so many other great sushi restaurants with amazing food and service. Do not waste your time here.

My only complaint is that they have ruined my expectation of good sushi and I will not be able to go to another restaurant ever in life. This was the freshest most delicious food I have ever had at a restaurant. Worth every dime! Great vibes and music. Delicious sake. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable! Best dining experience by far. Wonderful experience! Will be back! Bonus: They have vegetarian and vegan options. Pictured below that is not fish that is a tomato 🤯

We got a reservation to celebrate our anniversary, and our server Virginia made sure it was a memorable experience! The Chef's Tasting is a must for those looking to have an adventure without stressing what to order, and the variability of what was included across presentation, ingredients, and textures will keep you engaged for the entire meal. We spent around two hours at Uchi between 13 courses (three were desserts) and a bottle of sparkling wine. Plan for about the same amount of time so you can enjoy the experience fully. Thank you again to Virginia and the entire Uchi staff and chefs! Highly recommend.

Uchi is a hidden gem. It serves innovative freshly made sushi & fusion plates at this upscale Japanese hot spot. From the hostess to the server to the chef, everyone is super friendly and makes you feel super welcome! Although it's a upscale restaurant, the best time to come is during its "Happy Hours", lots of great deals on drinks cocktails, snack bites. I ordered the Wagyu beef skewers and Blue Fin Tuna sushi and each item was less than $15 USD, which is pretty decent. Luv the ambience. A perfect place on a date night! Will definitely come back again & again & again & again!!!!

This restaurant is very pricey but the quality of food really reflects that. They have impeccable dishes with a broad range of flavours - which will make you not want to go to any other Japanese restaurant other than Uchi. Order anything you want on the menu - you can't go wrong! Service is fast and waiters are friendly and attentive. Very busy place so you have to book like a week in advance!

We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef’s tasting menu. It was truly phenomenal - I don’t know how I will ever return to grocery store sushi after this. It was not as expensive as I was expecting, we spent around $220 for two people (no drinks, and before tipping). it was a good 10 courses that were all incredible and filling. My husband doesn’t normally like mushrooms but the Kinoko Nabe was a revelation for us both. As mentioned in many reviews, the Wagyu Nigiri will probably change your life. The fried milk was SO delicious. Every course, every piece, every ELEMENT of the dishes presented was done in an amazing way, it was a true experience that I will treasure forever.

the food here was great. the only issue my partner and i ran into was with our service. we got there right on time for our reservation and the hosts seemed like they were not happy to be there at all, the woman who brought us to our table did not even smile once. then our server (who did not even tell us his name) was very inattentive and often times we had to wait a very long period for him to check our table when we wanted to order something. i would watch him stand at the back of the restaurant or check on all of his tables around us seemingly forgetting us. throughout our evening we felt like we were his last priority. once we had been there for around an hour he began pushing us to finish our meal, i understand it’s a busy place but the website states the restaurant anticipates guests to stay there for around 2-2 and a half hours so i was unsure why he was pushing us to leave. he kept asking if he could take our chopsticks and clear our table when we had only been waiting for him to come back so we could order a few more things of the menu. he did not say a single word to us unrelated to what we were ordering or “are you guys still okay?” the entire night. once again, i understand it is a very busy place but as i heard the other servers around us be friendly with their guests i felt as though once again we were being forgotten. we came to uchi for our second anniversary because we wanted amazing food (which we did get) but we also wanted to have a special, romantic night. we both felt as though the server could not wait to get us out the door, and did not even acknowledge our special day with a congratulations… i expect that if i’m spending hundreds of dollars on a meal the server would at least be kind and welcoming to me.

Wonderful experience at this sushi restaurant. We heard all the rave reviews about it. It was the most unique sushi restaurant I’ve been to. Every bite was savored and enjoyed. From the drinks to Nigiri to rolls to Beef Skewers were all amazing. Bottom line, it’s not cheap but well worth it especially for special occasions. We spent $250 for dinner and drinks on Happy Hour.

We got like 15 dishes; hot rock, shishito, something chili, caviar, 4 different kind of nigiri…it all tasted amazing. I couldn’t tell you what all of it was called though. I also didn’t get pictures of everything. Our server, dusty was awesome too. We’ve come here many times and everything is always consistent, food service. I love it here.

Be sure to have a reservation as they are pretty busy even on weekdays. The food was great and our server Matt was amazing, he even taught us a few things about the Sushi industry and certain types of fish. Highly recommend doing the omakase to try a variety of things, they even have a vegetarian option for this.

This was my friend and I’s first time at the Houston Uchi. It was amazing as are the other Uchis. This is the only place I’ve found that delivers such a variety of flavors, textures, smells, and visuals. You can never go wrong with Uchi. The food is always fantastic. It’s a great place if 1) you love sushi 2) you love to try new things. Some “pro” tips: Get an early reservation so you can take advantage of happy hour from 4-6. Do the unlimited omakase. Basically you have them bring courses(1-3 or so, bites per course) until you are full and tell them to stop. If you do this though, make sure to give them your budget if you have one because it can get quite pricey. I commend this Uchi specifically because the service was the best we’ve had, even as the restaurant started to fill up.

The food was extraordinarily fantastic but the service was not great at all. We waited for a long time every time we needed our waiter. He was always no where to be found. In fact, we don’t know why he insisted on serving us because the other waiter was serving the surrounding tables whereas he’s always elsewhere. We waited for a long time to get soy sauce. We waited yet another long time to get a spoon in the end we gave up and shared a spoon. We waited for a long time to get the hot tea refilled. We waited for a long time to order extra food. We tried to ask for help from another waiter but he chose to ignore us. We really didn’t expect this kind of service from a place like Uchi. Second visit at the sushi bar and the service was slightly better. Our sushi chef was abit quiet whereas the other sushi chef Albert was funny. Better experience this time I guess.

The food is downright phenomenal. The vibes are real. Service was amazing. The flavor pairings are very unconventional, but so delicious. For instance, whoever thought to fry some yuca, put some yellowtail on top, then add in some apples and raisins, idk who you are, but thank you. The wagyu tartare was the star of our table's night, but literally every single thing they brought out on the omakase was unique and so scrumptious. Our server, Jamie, was an absolute delight. If you have taste buds (and some dollars,) Uchi is a must try in Houston.

This is by far my favorite Restaurant in Houston. They never disappoint! I’ve been coming since they opened and always forget to leave my own review. NOT Today! We had John today as our server on this visit and was just Awesome! He helped some new comer friends of mine make some great choices and some of his own suggestions they enjoyed. They have already noted they would return, without a doubt. Food, Service, Knowledge, Environment, Everything was on point. I attempt to tell everyone when you come here. You probably won’t be full, but you’ll experience an explosion of flavors in each dish. So try to be open minded and play on what spices, flavors, foods, etc. people already enjoy. Uchi takes that and just elevates the bar to the next level. I love the new items on the menu, Hot / Cold Ousters! They just ruined what I want to expect from all oysters going forward. New roll options! I don’t want to spoil it for you. Stop in, if you haven’t been in a while. They have something for you to try. Sorry, as not all the photos came out. The darkness plays a the lens. But most of them did, thankfully. See you guys again soon!

Really good food Exquisite Japanese Culinary Journey Good review for Japanese restaurant ChatGPT I recently had the pleasure of dining at Uchi, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was enveloped in an ambiance that transported me straight to Japan. The attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant was commendable, and it set the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. The menu at Uchi offered an extensive selection of traditional Japanese dishes, each prepared with the utmost care and precision. As a fan of Japanese cuisine, I was delighted to see both classic favorites and unique creations on the menu. The freshness of the ingredients was apparent in every bite, and the flavors were beautifully balanced, showcasing the chef's mastery of their craft. One standout dish was the sashimi platter. The slices of fish were impeccably fresh, melting in my mouth with every bite. The presentation was a work of art, and the variety of fish showcased the restaurant's commitment to sourcing the best ingredients. Additionally, the sushi rolls were simply divine, combining innovative flavor combinations with the highest quality ingredients. It was evident that the chefs paid meticulous attention to every detail. The service at Uchi was exemplary. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the cuisine they served. They graciously explained each dish and offered recommendations based on our preferences. Their warm hospitality added to the overall dining experience, making us feel like honored guests throughout the evening. The interior design of the restaurant was elegant and thoughtfully curated. The minimalist yet cozy décor created a serene atmosphere, allowing the focus to remain on the culinary journey. The attention to detail was evident in the fine craftsmanship and traditional elements incorporated into the space.

Still amazing food!!! I used to go to Uchi all the time when I lived in Houston, especially for happy hour. I came back after 4 years and the food, ambiance & service is still top notch! I sat at the wine bar & got excellent service from Hudson as well as interesting conversation. I took a number of his recommendations & was pleased with each one. The food quality & presentation is top notch. One of my favorite restaurants in Houston.

This was a really good restaurant. The sushi was extremely fresh, very well presented and delicious. The restaurant was packed and pretty loud. Casual conversation, unless in the ear, was a bit challenging. And note, this isn't your everyday sushi kickback. Check the menu prior to arrival to see what I'm talking about. But would love to come back when in town.

Everything was delicious, all the staff was super nice, Han was an amazing server. All the plates were unique and flavorful with great texture. I will for sure come back soon to try more things in the menu! One of the best japanese places in Houston. The pork belly roll and the shortrib were amazing!

It was my first time going to Uchi, I always passed by this restaurant, and I didn't know what it was, so I never gave it a chance. It was November when my family and I went to celebrate my birthday. When we first arrived, the hosts were respectful and said "happy birthday" to me. They sat us at our table and recommended some drinks for us. We asked our waitress what we should order, and she recommended the omakase. We ended up having 17 courses with high lights being the hot stone A5 wagyu beef, Brussels sprouts, and fried milk dessert. It is worth every penny, and I'll recommend it to any newcomers and regulars.

One of the best meals we had in Houston. Chose the Feed Me option at the sushi counter and had no regrets. Our chef and server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive while still giving us space to talk among ourselves. The food is absolutely phenomenal, presented beautifully, and paced perfectly. This is a meal we still talk about, and will definitely make our way back next time we visit.

This is a date/night sushi restaurant for once or twice yearly. The atmosphere is warm comfortable friendly staff. Sushi is extra fresh and the rice is more sweeter than any other sushi place I’ve experienced. It is pricey you paid for combo of service, atmosphere, and foods. I will come back!

Everything was absolutely delicious. It was my second time here. My husband who’s not really a sushi eater loved it. I wish I knew the names of the sushi we got. They do explain everything to you but I forgot in the moment LOL. We went with the Omakese Chef’s Choice.

Great place and we’ve gone here for years. Great place for any special occasion or even date night. Well worth trying the Omakase Chef Tasting. It will allow you to try things especially when you can’t decide. Brussels sprouts are my favorite, try them to start off.

This was an overall great experience. The service was excellent, and they always made sure we were very informed of what was going on with the menu. We tried to tasting menu. Which was a little bit of everything. This was hands down some of the best flavors of sushi I've ever had. If you're looking for a great upscale dining experience on sushi, this is your place to go. I recommend the tasting menu and the wygu steak on the hot stone. For more food eats and travel places, follow me @bigdaddykteats

Excellent food and service!!! Modern music surrounds the place, in good volume to be able to chat with your date. A bit dark lighting. Sakes are awesome, from hot to cold, with gold or fruity!!! Otoro fatty tuna is a must… like butter melting on your mouth… A reservation recommended!!! Parking is difficult.

Excellent food. Beautiful restaurant. Lovely atmosphere. Good service. Truly wonderful sushi that is exquisitely prepared, well presented, and very tasty. Be very very careful. If you allow the waiter to provide a “customized” experience for you, be prepared for costs close to $300 per person. Even though this should be made clear in advance, we did have a good experience.
