El
Tiempo
Cantina
is
a
Tex-Mex
chain
which
originated
from
Ninfa
(Mama
Ninfa)
Laurenzo.
Her
husband,
Domenic
Laurenzo,
died
in
1969,
and
left
Ninfa,
their
5
children,
and
a
failing
tortilla
factory
behind.
Due
to
shrinking
profits,
Ninfa
had
to
get
creative
with
making
money,
so
from
a
single
taco
stand,
she
expanded
this
into
her
own
restaurant,
Ninfa’s,
in
1973.
Ninfa
expanded
into
multiple
restaurant
ventures,
and
she
passed
away
in
2003.
Since
Ninfa’s
death,
her
family
became
involved
in
more
restaurant
ventures
across
Houston.
Ninfa’s
grandchild,
Domenic
Laurenzo,
operated
El
Tiempo
Cantina
and
expanded
it
to
several
locations
across
the
city.
They
are
known
for
their
fajitas
which
Ninfa
introduced
to
her
own
menu
in
1973,
and
her
family
perfected
them
over
the
last
50-years.
We
typically
go
to
the
Montrose
location.
When
they
seat
you,
they
start
you
off
with
their
classic
complimentary
chips
and
two
salsas
(red/green).

El
Tiempo
has
an
assortment
of
different
tequilas
available
to
make
margaritas.
You
choose
the
brand
of
tequila
you
like,
and
they’ll
handcraft
it
for
you.

The
main
reason
to
come
here
is
for
their
fajitas
though.

beans,

and
cheese)
for

This
is
for
the
half
pound
which
feeds
two.
These
fajitas
are
excellent
and
are
one
of
the
most
consistent,
tastiest,
and
juiciest
fajitas
I
have
tried
in
Houston.

Overall,
El
Tiempo
Cantina
is
one
of
the
best
Tex-Mex
restaurants
to
go
to
in
Houston,
especially
if
you’re
in
the
mood
for
fajitas.
I
would
highly
recommend
checking
them
out!
