Extremely rude. When I came in, the lady at the front was literally screaming at the Uber Eats delivery driver because he couldn’t find the name on the order. She was yelling at him so badly that I almost walked out. Unprofessional. Food was mediocre at best and she also overcharged me but I was so ready to leave at that point that I didn’t care. Would never step foot here ever again. It’s so important to treat people with respect. With mediocre food like they served, you’d think they’d at least be nicer.

This is an average Chinese takeout place. Before giving some useful detail, I feel the need to respond to a subset of the critical reviews (and I'm sorry for mansplaining Chinese takeout in the process): if you're not looking for Chinese takeout then this place is not right for you and neither are ANY of the countless other Chinese takeout establishments in the area. A good takeout place should not be expected to (and does not need to) provide an amazing dine-in experience, and it is not designed to be haute cuisine. We're talking Chinese flavors adapted to American tastes (i.e., greasy, fatty, and salty). With that out of the way, here are some details. Based on what we ordered and other previous reviewer comments, it seems like your food experience is highly dependent on the items you select. From our spread, the beef broccoli and General Tso's was really good and the house lo mein was pretry good (i.e. standard). The Kung pao chicken was not good. It was a little bland, and I didnt like the style of using fresh jalapeños in place of the usual dried chilies but it was better the next day. The egg rolls were bad: mushy and far more bland than most others I've had (but that's what duck sauce is for!). If you care about what the base fried rice or steamed rice tastes like, this review will not be helpful for you because: who cares!? It's the vehicle for all the sauces that your entrees are smothered in! If you read this far, you are a champion.

Just a basic take-out joint serving bland, gluggy American-style Chinese food. The cuisine is as creative and interesting as the restaurant’s name. I ordered family-style tofu, shrimp with vegetables and stir-fried green beans. Everything seemed fresh, but there was little effort to season the dishes. The rice was over cooked and stuck together in big clumps. The man at the counter was gruff and unwelcoming. My take-out order was ready in 15 minutes as promised. I would only go back to this place if I couldn’t be bothered looking for something better.

This place has been open forever. Looks like they had some challenge. However, let’s be real here, it’s a fast food take out, so t expect gourmet. It was just fine and it hit the spot.

This is your standard take out restaurant. I did dine in and found a hair in my general to chicken. The guy was nice fixed another plate. Did not offer a refund. But was possibly a fluke. I probably won't be eating here again with all the other restaurants in the area to try. The parking lot only had about 6 spots total. Food was ok but not great.

Their food is highly variable. Sometimes it is excellent and sometimes it’s inedible. Today I ordered cumin beef, which on the last two orders was fantastic. Today it was sad chewy beef. I hope that they can work things out and be consistent.

Look at the time on my ticket and look at any menu from this restaurant. This restaurant just said "yes" to everything I asked and refused to give the right price. If they handle all first time customers like this they're plenty other Chinese restaurants to try.

Kinda disappointed figured they would at least give more rice, not a large portion of chicken either(I ate one piece before taking the pic). The general Taos chicken was soggy, no crisp at all, it lacked flavor. Wonton soup was very salty. Did not try egg roll. Cheese puffs tasted good, thought it was the best outta everything ordered. Did think I overpaid for the plate which was $12

DoorDasher… the lady at the cash register NEVER SPOKE back to myself as I entered & spoke again and IGNORED ME! The gentleman at the table started talking to me as she ignored me TWICE!! I advised I was speaking to make aware that I have a DoorDash order and speaking in general as normal human beings should do if someone enters your place of business!! When two white men walked in she spoke with happiness and was polite and pleasant? I left to get another order and when I arrived back she was double checking my order as I already and again gave her the name and tried to show when arriving but again I WAS IGNORED! Horrible business and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I am Black woman by the way! Rude RUDE RUDE RUDE and the gentleman at the table made a smart comment ( both of them laughing) once I stated I was speaking to make her aware why I was there since she never spoke!

I didn’t have a good experience with this place , I order chicken fried rice, it was okay. But let me tell you about the uncooked orange chicken strip they gave me. Also the sauce and chicken was not mix together. This place is over priced too! Never again!

I've ordered takeout from Montrose Chinese multiple times over the last few years. The quality has always been kind of mediocre, but good enough for it being close by. More recently though the prices have been raised quite dramatically, so there's no way I'm paying the kind of prices you'd expect at higher end places for food that's merely sort of adequate.

Instead spending money advertising n sending flyer all over the place you should improve the quality of your food. Customers will come foe good food but not for bad food.

It tasted less like Chinese food and more like the ingredients they used to make it. Where it crunched it should've melted, and melted where it should've crunched. I was hoping to reward myself with a Chinese dinner but was punished with a meal that provided no vibrations. I didnt eat much of it. But at least I'm not as hungry as I was before I ate. Pretty bad food.

I hate to say it, but beware of this place. The food is grear but, four days after I went there for the first time -- and signed up for their rewards program -- the bank contacted me about an attempted fraudulent use of my card.

I'd give a 0 if it were an option... Absolutely horrible!... ☹️☹️☹️ Food tasted like grease, not good portions, and rather rude people... I tried to taste the hot and sour soup there, but the guy said no eating there... Run don't walk to a REAL Chinese restaurant... It blows my mind that they are still in business!

I thought I give this place a try after a menu was left at my Apartment, I ordered the pork fried rice, pork was burnt, Orange chicken lifeless with uncooked orange strips and a couple of tasteless spring Rolls… I was not wowed by this restaurant. Never again!!

Trash. Hot and sour soup was just sour. Beef didn't have any flavor. They served cook noodles, no butter, oil, or seasoning on them. This place is a joke.

It’s unfortunate to have to guess wether the food will be fresh or not when ordering! I guess I should save my money! Old rice that was drying up the spicy rice with pork is not worth it at all dry rice in your teeth. This place use to be a great place . In the past few years it has steadily declined. Old dry meats. Order if you don’t mind throwing it in the trash. Ordered orange beef it was mediocre but the spicy pork rice was trash. Tried adding water and microwaving to soften the rice but it went in the trash can. Waste of money!!!

The food is too expensive for the serving size. It’s a fast style Chinese takeout restaurant yet priced close to the higher end sit down Sichuan restaurants in midtown. The Montrose Spicy Tofu is like a mapo tofu and taste good but the serving size was small even without considering the price of $14.

I have ordered many times from this restaurant and have always been pleased .... this time very dissapointed! Order Chow fun and a sampler platter...... the noodles were good ,but the pork was dry and old ...the plater I could not eat the ribs they were so old and dry you couldn't chew them . Crab ragoon was refried and the cream cheese was spoiled .... the shrimp was so thin that it too was dried out. What happened to the pride and art of chinese cooking??? I know times are hard right now , if you want customers to return take pride in what you serve!

food is very bland. portions are small. Their doordash ordering system is faulty. You will wait over 90 minutes because they do not even receive the orders properly.

Just moved here from Florida and I’m very big on Chinese food so I know Quality when I taste It. However, this particular restaurant doesn’t know what fried rice is, they sent my rice separate from my main dish. The rice was mushy no flavor no vegetables almost white. You have to literally tell them what you want in your rice and they charge for everything! Normally friend rice comes with certain ingredients. The fried chicken wings are too big. I’m just not satisfied with the way they prepare the food! You ask for a combo it still comes separate. I wont Be ordering here again. I’ll find a better Chinese restaurant.

I always order from here through door dash. The sesame chicken always has great portion sizes and is pure protein. I mean white meat chicken breast with no gristle. The food is always hot and I’ve never had an issue. Sometimes they even include extra egg rolls or extra chicken. I’m a regular customer so it’s possible they take extra care. Despite this, I can see from the reviews not everyone has been so lucky. I hope they improve on their mistakes.

Let me start by saying I love this place. It's my go-to lunch place to order delivery--I work downtown by the Ballet/Aquarium and they always deliver super fast, and they are my hands-down favorite chinese food in Houston since moving here in 2014. I almost always order the same thing--house lo mein and pan-fried dumplings. Today it just tasted off--the dumplings were mushy--like doughy and uncooked in areas. The lo mein was spicy for some reason and it's not usually. First time to say I was a little disappointed in my food delivery. I am sure it was a one-off and not the normal. All in all, totally recommend. Just hope today was a rare exception and not the new normal.

Montrose Chinese has been our go-to as far as American-Style Chinese take out for almost a decade. The food is always hot, delicious, delivered timely, and enough for two meals. Our favorites are the eggs rolls, crab rangoons, kung pao, and General Tso's. They also always get it right with any order notes. I'm so glad they got a hold of online ordering and in-sourced their delivery so I can support them instead of a third party delivery service
