This place is legendary in H-Town. Vietnamese egg rolls, spring rolls, fried rice, Pho…. It’s all amazing. Open late. If you’ve lived in Houston for your entire life, you know about Mai’s. Love this place.

I was shocked when I first saw the prices on the menu. And my shock turned into disappointment and anger when I saw the dish I ordered. Three chicken tenders and rice with a slice of tomato and cucumber, and they call it a Vietnamese grill chicken plate? I can do it better. This is a disgrace to Vietnamese food.

The food came rather quickly. They had amazing pho! My friend ordered their shrimp fried rice, and it wasn’t the best. The service was also a bit odd, and they didn’t bring us water until we asked once. At that point, all our food was already brought out. They also sat us in a corner in the back… The ambience was alright, but nothing spectacular. Overall, I’d give it a 3.5, with the food being a 4 and the service being a 3.

This is average Vietnamese cuisine at best. Shrimp spring rolls had no herbs and had clearly been made far in advance. A disappointing start. We tried two pho options, one with various meats, one with vegetarian broth and shrimp. Both were rather basic, and our lackadaisical server only brought bean sprouts, instead of the customary assortment of basil, cilantro and jalapeños. He also managed to disappear for a long while, meaning we had to request many things from a different server. When he did reappear he managed to stand by the computers playing on his phone, completely ignoring us. We will opt for a different Vietnamese spot next time we visit Houston.

Love this place! If you can’t decide what to order then just say this: lychee martini, spring rolls, and the shaking beef. Salt and pepper shrimp is also super yum. Always delicious and a must while in Houston. They’re always pretty busy so sometimes food and service can take a while. That’s what the martini is for, just be patient and it will be worth it

Goi cuon (spring rolls) with shrimp - The noodles and wrap is fresh with a great texture. Peanut sauce is pretty standard, and I wish they would add a basil leaf and a cucumber stick or something for a little extra flavor, but overall it's a good experience and worth ordering again. Points for size as well 7/10 Cha gio (Vietnamese egg rolls) - real mvp. Light and crispy rice paper wrapped around a good serving of pork filling with a great flavor. The light sauce that comes with it is soaked up by the paper and accentuates the flavor very well. Best egg rolls I have encountered, and we will be ordering them every time from now on. Pho tai nam bo vien (all the meat pho) - good broth, good portion, comes with normal fixings. I was pleased by the amount of meat. Solid pho, would order again. Bun Thor nuong cha gio - (grilled pork with egg rolls) amazing. The pork is flavorful, the noodles are excellent, and you get more of those crazy awesome egg rolls. I would get extra sauce to go with it. Banh mi bo ko (beef stew with French bread) - also excellent and a good portion though it does appear smaller when presented. Overall I was impressed and am excited to try more things, we will be back.

It's been 20 years since I've been here last and it didn't disappoint.

Some of the best wings in Houston. Simple, dry, lightly breaded, crispy salt and pepper. Singapore dry noodles were fantastic as well. Worse service I’ve had in a while. Since we were a party of 6 she already knew she’ll be getting a 20% tip and barely tried. An attitude as if she was doing us a favor.

Pho and other similar dishes taste pretty good, but it's definitely on the pricier side. Parking is slightly confusing, it's across the street and slightly diagonal to the restaurant. Service is good and the food comes pretty quick. There is an automatic 18% gratuity applied for groups of 6 or more.

Good experience. We came in on a Thursday afternoon as a family. Delicious food. Good size portions. Great waiting staff! Great recommendations from the waiter as well. They can substitute without any problems or extra charges.

Wanted to pickup something before the eateries closed downtown. Made a quick run to Mai's and picked up some Curry Tofu. Unfortunately, I couldn't substitute rice and get vegetables instead. It wasn't a big deal, life goes on. Made it back to the office and found that the rice was in a separate container so it worked out. I gave the rice to someone else and proceeded to eat the Tofu. It was pretty good.

Easily one of my family’s favorite restaurants in Houston. My wife’s been coming since the old location. The egg rolls usually don’t even hit the plate before they’re gone. Everything’s great, including the service, but the garlic beef is one of my go-tos. The chicken wings are also terrific.

Visiting this restaurant for the first time. Was not disappointed at all. Food came out fast. There steam rice was one of the best for me. Honestly not all restaurants can make some good steam rice. Our waiter was a bit rude. But other than that everything was amazing.

Customer service is amazing and the staff goes over and beyond to make sure your taking care of. Drinks are always refilled without asking and the food is outstanding. Hot and fresh and seasoned with the best ingredients.

Our appetizer, which is number 10, tastes really good. However, #15, pho Tai is so bland and doesn't taste good at all. #51 has a huge good amount of plate, but it's not too tasty. It's kinda bland and needs to be marinated more. Crew and staff are very attended and polite. They have a lot of spot for parking at the back of the restaurant and one from across the street. The atmosphere is decent and peaceful. But other than that it still a 3.5 star experience overall

I ordered Singapore noodles that cost an astonishing $26.95 and honestly it was absolutely gross, the worst Singapore noodles I’ve ever had, but the sweet and sour chicken that I also ordered was worst than the noodles. The food was just dry and flavorless and the price was just wild. Save your money and go anywhere else but here honestly.

A Houston classic, Mai's never disappoints. The fried rice is impeccable. There is not a bad dish to be had here. Be sure to utilize any sauces that come with a dish as that seems to be where the flavor is and without using them this dish will be bland.

DELICIOUS!! Service is a 10/10 fast efficient and attentive server. They stay open pretty late so it gets busy around 10pm but the staff makes it work just fine.

Mai’s is not what it used to be before… I Uber eats the Vietnamese egg rolls and get finger egg rolls? They used to be bigger !!!! Super greedy 😡 could get better ones elsewhere!

I have been eating at Mai's Vietnamese restaurant since 1995 and the food is constantly delicious. Their service is impeccable and they have a large Vietnamese family following, which lets you know that it is right on the money. Their prices are very fair market prices. The decor is great, complete with exotic fish tanks and simple and clean restaurant furnishings. Mai's is my most favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Houston. Give them a try and they will be yours too!

Love it here. It’s always a crowd but the move very quickly. The food is consistently good a well as the service. I usually don’t order drinks but my family member wanted one while we waited for our name to be call. The bartender was extremely rude and ignored her, then told her no I can’t fix you a drink. My hubby then went to the bar & he fixed the drink for him. So because of that I took off a star. We ordered #97, I always get this dish. It’s a filet mignon with veggies. Our table also had Mongolian beef, & fried rice.

Mai’s is one of those places where you get what you get. For example, you may get bland pho but you’re also there eating at 3 a.m. and there aren’t many places open that late/early. We went for lunch and it was a relief to see the person who used to fight people in the parking lot gone, but Mai’s is very different than what it used to be. The prices are more expensive than other places with a bowl of pho tai (pho with just rare sliced beef) is $14 and a bowl of pho tai nam bo vien (pho with rare sliced beef, brisket, and meatballs) is $18. I would be OK with the price is this was the best pho I’d ever had, but the broth is bland and served without Thai basil. It was underwhelming. The spring rolls with grilled pork were also OK. We also had the garlic tofu. It’s my wife’s favorite dish here and she used to drive from Galveston to get it. She said, it’s different with the addition of lime but still flavorful. The bathrooms could use an upgrade. They were not very clean and needed attention. We went at lunch so we were seated immediately, food arrived immediately, and we had attentive service. The entire experience was kind of meh. I especially did not care for the flimsy little plastic soup soups for the pho. If you put the entire spoon in your mouth you’ll definitely cut yourself. Why are we being served plastic spoons for these prices? If you’re looking for delicious pho I’d recommend Pho Saigon. If you’re looking for a place to eat after a late night event I’d say go here.

You see Anthony Bourdain featured in the menu and one can't help but set high expectations. Sadly let down by this one as I've had better Vietnamese food at the northern part of town for a fraction of what we paid here. Vietnamese coffee was way too sweet. A lot of what we had were bland, my wife's chicken was dry, and the Pho was underwhelming. One thing that stood out was that the meatballs they use are legit meat and none of that usual extenders. This may have been THE place back on its heyday but great Vietnamese food is everywhere in Houston. And a lot of them are usually hidden gems without the publicity nor the steep price tag.
