This place is laid back and cozy. It’s in Rice Village so there’s lots of shops and bars you can walk to, after eating. The food is great and so are the cocktails. I had a Bloody Mary and it was spicy and delicious. I recommend it if you like a spicy drink. I ordered it with Tito’s Vodka. The breakfast plate was good everything was cooked well, except the grits, they were a little soggy, I like mine a little more stiff. Overall the staff was friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was great. For a Saturday afternoon there wasn’t much of a wait which was awesome as well, because who wants to wake up hungry and wait hours for a seat!

First time dining here! Was looking for a nice brunch spot that didn’t require some form of dress code. The food is really delicious! I had the steak and eggs and they were really filling. The mimosas flight is definitely something I would get again! The strawberry flavor is a hit!!!! The line is a bit long if you don’t mind.

Black Walnut Cafe has the most amazing brunch! Every time we’ve gone and tried something new we haven’t been disappointed. So delicious! We’ve had the Bacon & Avocado Benedict, Brisket Benedict, Avocado toast with chicken sausage, Chicken & Waffles, Salmon Omelette and the Pecan Pie pancakes. Their Lattes are great too!

My husband and I took my sister and his friend here for lunch and we were not disappointed. The food was tasty and we really enjoyed eating out on the patio. The restaurant’s decor was very nice, warm and inviting. The cashier was very friendly and helpful.

Great service and good food. We loved the outside seating and the inside of the restaurant had a cool vibe to it. We ordered breakfast and let me tell you that it was great. The Latte could’ve been better. They gave me the milk and pointed me towards the coffee machine. I like my Latte with froth and I think it would’ve been better if they prepared the latte. My wife got an iced coffee and she loved it. She ordered the Caramel Macchiato. She loved it.

First time here and we will be back. Place was really nice and clean, decor was cool. Food was quick and hot.I had the venison burger and fries and my wife had the pot roast grill cheese. Both were amazing and really flavorful. She also got a salad and had the lemon vinaigrette and it was a great combination. Tones to shopping around after you get done eating. They had wine and beer available.

What a delightful place for coffee/brunch! Although not cheap, Black Walnut does wonders with their simplistic ingredients, presentation, and freshness. It's very clear that they pride themselves on their level of quality and taste. Highly recommend you visit.

We stop by here for brunch since we were headed back home. We wanted to make sure we ate good. The food was amazing. It was very busy. The menu had a lot of varieties of options for a brunch menu. The devil eggs with the bacon jam was delicious. All the food was good. My sister enjoyed the lobster tacos and my other sister enjoyed the turkey burger. She said it was very juicy. She ate the whole thing..lol well be back soon hopefully on our next trip to Houston.

Every single staff member was truly nice, and we encountered with many just walking to our table. All were very attentive, kind, and respectful. The food was delicious! We will definitely be going back.

I understand them being busy but they should really stop taking dine in orders if they don't have room to accommodate them. My family is eating out in the cold. *UPDATE* They sat three other tables before they finally got us a table inside. Food was plated beautifully but definitely not worth the price. Caramel Frappe is very strong which was great and the potatoes that come as a side are crispy and actually more flavorful than their steak, which was very bland.

We enjoyed to puzzling ambience, quick service and hospitality. The coffee was brewed fresh and the food was fresh and plentiful. We had the Appetizer - Chicken lettuce wrap (tasted good, quite watery though due to the veggies), Lobster Benedict ( very tasty however the poached eggs were well done instead of runny) and mediterranean chicken (my favorite out of all, chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the artichokes and mash potatoes went really well with the chicken). Definitely recommend this place for a social brunch!

Great place with a lovely vibe. Has nice outdoor and indoor seating, and kid friendly. We ordered the nashville hot chicken benedict and chicken and waffles breakfast plates. They were made to perfection. The fries were well seasoned and the coffee was fresh. Food was served within 20 mins of ordering. I always enjoy coming here for brunch and dinner. Highly recommend.

My first time at Black Walnut and it was amazing!! I’m glad I decided to try it👏 I wanted to try breakfast but went with the queso it’s outrageously delicious! It has onion roasted peppers and Italian sausage. The burger in this picture is just a kids menu burger and I only ate half it was definitely a filling burger. The garlic mash was perfect as well. Ordered an iced latte with espresso that was very good too! Also they offered me a free gelato on the house since it was my first experience. The flavor was grapefruit, it was a nice and refreshing taste. The experience at this restaurant was amazing and I will definitely be back.

This place is awesome. Very laid back and pleasant atmosphere. The food was so good, plenty of flavor along with a unique menu. We ordered the Burger Benedict and the chorizo taco plate. Both plates were great. Love this place!

Wow!!! What can I say??? This place really is the epitome of a great breakfast!!! The only gripe I have is that this is one of those places where you order at the counter, then sit where you like and a server brings food/drinks. (So, if you want another round of drinks/etc, you gotta get back in line and re-order.) Other than that, everything else was AWESOME!!! Had a few of their cocktails, SO GOOD!!!! They were very balanced and for less than $10 for most of the drinks, well worth it!!!! The food was seriously better than anyplace we've been to in a while!! I got the creole shrimp omelet. It was devine!!! My wife got the oat cakes, which are basically pancakes made from oatmeal...Everything was fresh and sooooooo delicious!!! So glad we came!!!

We went at 9a on a Sunday and there was a small line. I ordered the a croissant with ham and a caramel latte with oat milk. We got our coffee and food pretty quickly after ordering. The sandwich was pretty good but to me the meat to bread ratio was off, too much meat. I wish the croissant would have been toasted because I like the crispy texture of bread. I also wished that my latte was a bit sweeter. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I would try it again. We were thankful they had dairy free options for my husband.

While on vacation with family in Houston, We ate here daily for three days to satisfy me and my partners brunch and breakfast needs! Chuey, the on-site manager, was more than accommodating to my partner’s sever celiac and gluten-free diet. We throughly loved all the food options we picked and would definitely recommend eating here over and over again!

This place was superb! The customer service was excellent, they were very attentive and welcoming. Everything was very clean and sanitized. The food was delicious and very filling. We ordered two Avocado Bacon Benedicts, one TX Whiskey Pecan Pie Pancakes, a hot chocolate and a latte. The benedict sauce was very flavorful and the house potatoes were to die for. The pancake syrup was on point, just the right amount of sweet. The drinks were also luscious and creamy. And although the restaurant was quite full, the food didn't take longer than 10-15 min to be served from the moment we ordered. The servers were super nice and darling by! Overall we had a great experience, we recommend this place 10/10!

Been here a few times and the food is always great! The margarita flight drinks are good i just wish the would serve them cold and not room temperature. Line get king so it’s always best to get there early! And i mean like 10am-10:30am. Lol but overall it’s a great place for brunch

I’ve been here several times specifically on the weekends. I used to really enjoy their Gin & the bee drink (Bees Knees). The portions are good, food is never nasty but sometimes the menu can be misleading. Like the Mediterranean Chicken does not have a side of mashed potatoes but rather my mashed potatoes were mixed into like a small amount of sauce on the chicken, needless to say I sent it back. Today at a separate location I got the Chef Austins G&T … nowhere on the menu does it say they put cayenne pepper in the drink so I sent that back. Favorite items would be: Chicken & Waffles Big Plate 2.0 (double bacon, no sausage patties, with potatoes) Mimosa Flight

Fresh delicious food, I had the Texas breakfast and my son had the chicken and waffles. Gotta say, I'd never tried it before but the chicken was so succulent and fresh, I'm now a fan. Atmosphere was upbeat and clean with a touch of class. Definitely a great destination for a relaxed bite. My son tried the Fanta Halloween flavor, looked nasty but it was actually tasty. Was fun anyway to try. Cheers.

Wonderful food, great staff, and a lovely new patio. I especially like how well they deal with customizing an order. I’m allergic to several foods and they unfailingly produce delicious meals I can eat. Relaxed atmosphere, menu has a good variety, and really really nice people working here. I love their chocolate cake!

Loving the renovations! The name change says it all- Black Walnut Kitchen and Bar- breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner with their awesome bar and happy hour! So glad I returned to this location after their hiatus! The service was flawless. The food was absolutely delicious! It definitely gave my Saturday morning a great start!!!

The food was really good. I got the chicken fried steak and a Mediterranean salad. The green beans were so tasty - perfectly seasoned. The bread and garlic butter was definitely the highlight of the meal.

Newly remodeled (as of Nov 2023). Staff and atmosphere were great. Ordering, menu and overall look are the biggest improvements vs the old setup. We ordered Texas Breakfast, Omelette, tea and juice (freshly squeezed). The juice was the highlight. The food seemed to be in last place on the improvement list. Most of our food was a bit too oily and presentation was just ok.
