Extremely unique pieces of history on site! Nearly everything inside and out were accessible and it was all free roam. Visitors were allowed to climb onto the exhibits, enter through countless doors, take photographs, and view at their own pace. I would definitely recommend making the trip to this museum for new experiences!

Had a wonderful time being able to go through these historic pieces of war. The history behind them is incredible and worth exploring. Being able to be in the boat and submarine that so many soldiers served in as well as just see what the environment was like provided a very educational experience. Seeing photos does no justice to being able to walk through and go up and down the different levels yourself. Seeing how some of the spaces are designed, some cramped some open, all of the machinery and explanations of the purpose(gives great insite to the type of jobs different soldiers would have), the sleeping courters, etc. Being able to see it first hand is an awesome experience! Thank you for your service to all of those who have served. God bless.

Amazing experience, we got to learn a lot about history. It's worth checking it out. We got to see a submarine for from inside. There are many artifacts from the war. My daughter got to learn a lot. It was fascinate to learn that the ship was built in 7 days. There are more facts that you will get to learn. Make sure to check the weather before going to the museum because if its lightning they will shut down due to safety reasons so make sure it's not going to thunder or lightning. The park is also good make sure to carry your food because you will find nothing there is no food. The place is very serene and you will enjoy the wind. If you are a fishing enthusiast then you will enjoy the pier.

This was an amazing experience. We loved walking around the destroyer and submarine, and I am glad we brought our kids too. We had to carry them at a couple points at stairs on the ships, but for under 5 it was pretty accessible (and easier for them in tight quarters in places), and they had a blast. It’s something they’ll definitely remember. Please think about taking your family to see the history, walk around the ships, and remember those lost as well. Bonus: fishing off the pier and a nice park for kids if everyone isn’t into the WW2 history. Bottom line: get off the beaten path in Galveston and check it out! It was well worth the cost of admission to the museum/ships and $6 parking.

We were able to walk through a Destroyer Escort and Submarine. Both were well documented. It is a bit out of the way but worth it. Plus the park around it was a nice place to watch ships and birds. Fishing is also an option.

Don't miss a chance to visit Zeke the awesome Turtle About Town Sea Turtle Statue while you are here. In our opinion, one of the most awesome of the sea turtle collections. Very cool piece of history. It has a historic boat and a sub as well as a sail from another sub, so lot of steps and ladders that are steep, but they added in some benches which is great for folks that need to sit. My opinion is that military veterans should not be charged to visit. They do offer a small discount, but you can get the same discount or better buying the tickets online. It feels a bit cheeky that they are charging Veterans at all.

Naval museum with World War II destroyer ship and submarine on display. It’s a great experience to see in person these great decommissioned ship and submarine up so close. We can see the weapons used, launchers, kitchen, beds, and much more. We get to have a tiny glimpse at the life of army officers’ life on these units, and admire. Have nothing but respect for army and navy, which has increased even more after seeing these. Definitely not to miss museum. Parking is available, along with few spots for fishing too, right beside the parking area.

Our Scout troop spent the night on the ship this past weekend. The experience was excellent. The staff were very accommodating, friendly, and helpful. They gave great private tours of the ship and submarine Saturday night, and the kitchen area for cooking was large and very well stocked. The Scouts had no problem cooking their meals, and we were able to watch the movie Greyhound as well. Sleeping on the ship bunks was an interesting experience as well. I would highly recommend the overnight program to Scout groups or groups of youth who have an interest in history. Thanks to the Galveston Naval Museum for your hospitality and making this weekend a great experience for our youth and adults.

Had a blast, $38 for 2 adults 1 kid. Went in the ship, able to walk in and experience first hand the ship structure and rooms. Also went inside the submarine, and it was so cool! Luxury l portable restrooms, super clean and vending machines on the entrance. The park also allows for fishing and picnics, would totally recommend and go back!

This was amazing to go in a submarine from WWII. It was amazing to really feel the space that soldiers were in. It gave me a deep appreciation for what we have now . It's a self guided tour but definitely well with it. There were dolphins off the pier that were so close that was great to see as well.

Cool look at historical battleship and submarine. Not for the claustrophobic or those with limited movement. Worth the cost, super friendly staff to give you guide points, you will have to pay for parking separately from the exhibit tickets

Small Naval Museum, but has a submarine and destroyer that you can fully explore. Great parking area and has a playground on opposite side of museum. Parking is $6.00 and is well worth the cost. Area is very clean. Exploring the submarine and destroyer is fun and truly showcases the endurance and fortitude those sailors displayed to protect our borders, security, and freedom. We took our time going through the vessels. Give yourself about 2 hours. I hope that you have a good experience as we did at the Galveston Naval Museum.

Wonderful experience. A little pricey but very interesting, especially if you have family visiting who may have served in the military. You're free to explore both WWII era ships. Catching a tour with a docent is a great idea as well.

Came here as a fill-in while in Galveston. I'm glad I did. Self tour through a sub and a battleship escort. Mike was great. Very proud of the displays and the volunteers.

Very neat museum to visit. Lots of history to see. Staff was very friendly. Not overcrowded but plenty of people there. You take your own self guided tour. This is a must stop if you are in the area. Not super expensive to get in either which is nice.

The museum is a self tour walk-through for $9/person. It was very informative, and we even had a docent that awaited our arrival to speak more about the ships. He even walked us through the entire submarine telling us about the details we were interested in. VERY informative! If you're having problems with knees or weight though, you may want to reconsider this tour. I have both to be honest. The ladders were extremely steep and narrow. I navigated alright still, but I took my time. My utmost of gratitude for all those who have served in the armed forces... Thank you!

I cannot recommend this highly enough! A well maintained museum of two important vessels in our history. A submarine and a warship. Very respectful visitors, thoughtfully walking through. Informational signs help me understand what the parts of the vessels were. It helped me understand a bit of what our sailors went through, defending the United States of America during war times. The artifacts were well presented, and well lit. We were able to walk through the entire sub, which involved going through little oval doors. The ship had a lot of stairs and I imagined our sailors literally running up and down them during their days. The technology was explained thoroughly. Wow, what advances have been made since then! Thank you to ALL the volunteers who selflessly work on these vessels, you are preserving history.

A fascinating tour through both the USS Stewart & the USS Cavalla! Both exhibits are very well done, allowing you to experience the life and history of a WWII sailor, if only for a moment. The display showcasing stories of women in World War II is amazing and well worth the time to read it entirely. My favorite part, though, is that the museum plays WWII era music throughout the sub - nice touch!

Interesting naval museum with a ship and a submarine built and commissioned in the 40s. Reasonably priced, between $10-15 for adults. Should take about 1-2 hours to look at both the ship and the submarine and the surrounding park. May be an exciting visit for young kids as well. Both vessels have a number of items labeled, as it is a self guided tour. Plenty of opportunities for photographs, particularly on the two ends where you can pose with the arms that protect the ships. Would recommend coming earlier in the day during the summer as it’s both hot and humid. Lots of stairs, so would recommend that seniors take care. The submarine had tight entryways in certain locations, so would take care there, too. Both exhibits give a good preview of what life would have been like on either vessel. Would definitely recommend this museum for a quick stop if you’re visiting Galveston!

Great place for real life history class lesson. The ships are self-guided tour so you can take as long as you want. One down side -- nobody is there to expound on what you are looking at. So glad there are still places like this to take the kids to. They see they names of fallen seamen and get a taste of what the sailors had to endure. The whole park was nice and clean. A big playground for kids and lots of spots for fishing.

Loved it! We loved being able to go all through the sub, very cool. Couldn't go very deep in the battleship as they are apparently slowly restoring deeper inside it, but the first couple levels were still pretty cool

This museum is sort of a hidden gem on the tip of the island. The ship and submarine walkthrough are really fantastic with good information and lots of stuff to touch and get closer to than a normal museum allows. Prices are pretty good, too.

We have been here twice with our kids and they really enjoying getting to explore and boat and the submarine. It is completely self guided which I like. There are areas inside that have voice boxes that play recordings of parts so you can learn about a certain exhibit. I gave it 4 stars for a couple reasons while my family enjoys the museum I think paying to park on top of admission is kind of ridiculous. We were at SeaWolf Park 4 months ago which is in the same parking lot and paid $6 to park but when we went this last time it was $10. I’m not sure if pricing goes down in the summer or if they charge based on if you’re going to the park or the naval museum but either way I find it ridiculous. It cost us $56 to get into the naval museum and which wouldn’t be so bad if they were accommodations like a little food/drink stand or something. I know the ship and submarine are old but I think they could do better at taking care of the rust and preservation. With the amount of rust on the ship when walking I would let be surprised if they had to block off sections for safety when the rust starts eating holes through where people are walking. Overall, my kids love it, we enjoy it and we will definitely be back again, but I think they could improve their maintenance and stop charging to park in a parking lot that’s connected to a park.

The tour includes the Submarine & the Battleship. It was a great experience! The submarine is very tight and some walkways are small so be aware of this when going on! The ladders on the ship are steep but very accessible if you take your time! The tour is self guided and self placed also! Enjoy!

Nice smallish museum with both a submarine and Destroyer from WW2 which survived the conflict. You can walk through both vessels ro see what life was like on board and there are some staff around to relate stories and history of the vessels. The car park is an additional $10 but you can park all day and there is a park and recreation area next to museum so possible to male a day of it.

This was a neat adventure. We were able to completely explore an entire submarine and naval ship, and they are outfitted like they were when they were in use. It was like a step back in time. It took about an hour to see it all, but you could easily stay longer, reading everything. I highly recommend visiting.

  • 5/5 W D. 2 years ago on Google
If you have an afternoon and you want to explore US naval history from WWII, I highly recommend taking a look at these museum ships! The sub is in excellent restored condition, with the destroyer under restoration currently. Both are relatively easy to walk through during your self guided tour, and both offer a ton of information on the signs located around the ships.

  • 5/5 Pin W. 2 years ago on Google
Love visiting the destroyer (DE-238) and submarine (SSK-244) built for WWII. The submarine was basically the iPhone of its era: minimalistic on the outside, complicated in the inside, fully functional as intended, and good at what it does. The mechanical designs should remind people how far our technology has progressed in the past century. It's easier to appreciate what is new when we can see and touch what was old (but nonetheless brilliant).

  • 5/5 Maizelle G. 2 years ago on Google
It was nice Museum to visit! Beside learning & explore about the ships. The view is pretty good! That time we visit is windy but it was perfect for us to experience the beauty of this place. Dont forget to check this place when you visit Galveston.

My boyfriend and I went on memorial day when entry was free from like 9am - 11am. It was such a cool thing to explore the navy ships all levels. Beware there's no A/C in the navy ships only a few fans that blow here and there so you will be sweating a lot. Plus they are cramped quarters with steep steps so if you wont do well with small tight spaces I wouldn't recommend it. It was an amazing experienced and so glad we went.

  • 5/5 Misty M. 1 year ago on Google
This was a very enjoyable self guided tour, with lots to take in and read. All the proceeds go to the upkeep of the park. They keep it very clean, well maintained and everyone is nice. You see lots of fishing out on the park. We will return

  • 5/5 William B. 1 year ago on Google
I went as a volunteer for their twice annual work week. You can stay aboard when you do, and they serve 3 excellent meals plus snacks daily and will also do your laundry while you are there. You don't need any special skills to help out, but if you have some, they will have projects for you. While you are there, you also get to see areas of the ship and submarine that normal guests do not get to experience. This was my second time doing this and I will absolutely do so again in the future.

  • 5/5 Michael S. 5 years ago on Google
If anyone else got confused about pricing: $10 per adult for unguided tour, $6 parking, flat rate. The experience being able to walk around the ship and sub was quite fun. I have a new appreciation for the crew and their responsibilities to not only maintain the equipment but to calculate navigation and translating raw data to determine where an enemy vessel may be and decide when to attack or evade a situation. I would not recommend this experience for those of larger size, especially the sub hatches are smaller and you need to be a little agile. Great experience for kids even though there are "do not touch" signs on all of the control panels, knobs, levers (I couldn't help myself).

The place is amazing. You can do picnic and enter the museum. The museum has a destroyer-class warship and a submarine warship. But the information on the website is misleading. It says $13 per adult. But we got charged twice. First we got charged at the compound/complex entrance for the museum pass, and then we got charged again at the museum entrance, which is nonsense

Interesting. I would have liked a guide. I was fortunate enough to find an old salt to explain how things worked. I had children from 3 to 18, and they all enjoyed it. Not as great for tall people. It would be a good afternoon after seeing the Battleship Texas (not too far away).

Super cool attraction and I feel it was a good value for the price. I could have easily spent several more hours at this park. Beautiful memorial and the staff that actually does the upkeep obviously takes pride in their work. We were able to watch dolphins out in the bay! There is a webcam online that overlooks the ships. We were able to wave to our family on it while they watched from home. If you have heat or claustrophobia issues be aware that there isn't much shade outside and spaces of course are tight inside some parts of the ships. There are areas to fish and and an intriguing playground at the park but we did not use those on our visit. Definitely recommend!

I was in Galveston doing the tourist thing and wanted to go out to Sea Wolf park, or the Galveston Naval Museum but the guy on the harbor tour said it was closed because of the pandemic. Really disappointing because I don't know when I'll make it to Galveston again but I was able to get a great shot from the tour boat. Hopefully, one of these days we'll have the pandemic behind us and we can all get back to living our lives with out worrying about dyeing
